I think my favourite line from the Sandman tv show is when Calliope says 'Comparing our suffering only compounds it' because YES! YES THIS IS SO TRUE!

People compare their suffering all the time and it is SO damaging, and ultimately unhelpful and makes everything worse.

Sooooo... Can we all like, agree that getting Dream a boyfriend is an Endless Family project TM?

Destiny was the one that found him the perfect mortal - in all the worlds, times and space -, that would actually have the heart and the sunny disposition to deal with his little brother's emo ass. And when it would be the best time for them to meet.

Despair and Desire fucked him up real good with past relationships, really messed up with his ego and his pride so he wouldn't be cocky or cruel to his one true love. (And also for the shits and gigs)

Death, aka best wingwoman in all of Creation, set up the meet cute and made her little brother's beau immortal so the Endless curse wouldn't be able to touch him.

Time, their dad, kept Hob young and smoking hot.

What I'm saying is that there is going to be a full out "Mission accomplished" party when Dream finally gets his act straight and asks Rob out on a date.

(Delirium will cry when he brings him to meet the Family)

Pov. Y/n

It was an evening. I was sitting on a bench in the rather empty park area, listening to music and doodling something in my sketchbook.

Humming the current song, I felt a little wind blow on my right arm. I turned my head to look if someone ran or something, but I saw a raven sitting next to me. I smiled and took the earphones out of my ears.

- Hello Matthew.

I said smiling.

- Hello M'lady.

He said and bowed a little.

- How's your day been?

I asked, closing my sketchbook and putting it and pencils back to my bag.

- It was pretty good, not counting that fucking Lord of Dreams was after me all day!

He said and I laughed.

- Aw.. you poor thing. What did you do?

I asked and placed him on my knees. I patted his head gently.

- Well.. I told Lucienne that I was going to take a break and come back to this world, but Morpheus had other plans and searched for me whole fucking day!

He said and jumped a little at the end. I nodded understanding, but when I opened my mouth to say something we heard a voice.

- Be more careful with your words, Matthew.

I looked up from the bird and looked at a man in black cloak in front of us. Of course it was Morpheus.

- Sorry, My Lord.

Matthew said, looking down. Lord of Dreams nodded and slowly made his way to the bench I was sitting on. My hand was still playing with bird's feathers.

- Hey..

I said shyly as he sat down next to me.

- Hello dear..

He said, placing his arm over my shoulders. I lay my head on his shoulder and he sighed deeply.

- That bad?

I asked, laughing. He looked at my face and frowned and I laughed harder. I gasped when I felt a pair of lips on mine, trying to shut me up. My laughter died and I immediately kissed back, cupping the back of his head.

- Yeahh.... I should probably go and see if Lucienne needs my help..

Matthew said and flew off. We pulled away, I giggled and Dream smiled.

- Let's go to my apartment.

I said and stood up. I grabbed his big hand in mine and dragged him a whole way there.

When we got there, Morpheus had his hands around my waist while I searched for my keys. I pulled them out and opened the doors. We went inside and I locked doors behind us. I turned to face my lover. I cupped his cheeks and kissed him passionatly. He gasped at a sudden contact, but slowly kissed back. I pulled away and placed my forehead on his.

- I.. I love you..

He said, enjoying the little moment.

- I love you too, Lord of Dreams..

(Y/n) started rambling on and on,“CauseIwasworriedaboutyouiactuallywentlookingforyou.” They rambled. Morpheus standing there listening to them.

“Icriedfordayswheniclukdntfindasingketraceofyouafterlookingforayear.” They rambled, fidgeting with their hands.

“Iwasdepressedforawhilebutinvergaveuphopeyoudcomeback.maybebecauseithinkihavefeelingsgoryou.” They said, their cheeks turning bright red realizing they said that.

“Ishouldntofsaidthatstupidmehereigoagainramblinonyoumustthinkimannoyingbecau-”

Morpheus pulled them into a kiss his cupping their cheeks. (Y/n) eyes widened in shock but slowly fluttered shut, as they kissed him back.

They knelt down as they petted their dog, “I-I can’t just leave the life I’ve built behind.” They say, and he looks down at them in shock.

“I have Jelly to take care of, a job, friends.i can’t leave them.” (Y/n) says, and he looks at them.

“You’re apart of The Dreaming. Why meddle in their lives. I created you to be a dream not a human.” He says, and they look down hurt by his words.

“I understand that I may not be a human. But my Lord, you should’ve known that not everything would’ve been the same as you have left it.” They said, looking up at him as Jelly laid on their lap.

“Please, just let me live this life.” They pleaded, as Jelly nudge against them wanting to play.

“I’m sorry I cannot.” He said, and the look on their face said it all. Tears brimmed their eyes as they looked at him, they shuddered under their breath. Shaking their head as they looked at him standing to their feet, Jelly followed them as they walked past Morpheus and towards their room. Slamming the door shut

Morpheus could hear their cries from their room. The whimpering of Jelly as she tried to console her owner. He felt a pang of guilt as he walked towards their door.

He decided to give them some more time. He wanted to get outta there he couldn’t handle hearing their cries. As he was the cause of it, so he reached his hand into his pouch full of sand and returned back to the dreaming.

Leaving behind a sobbing (Y/n) knowing tomorrow he’d be back to retrieve them. And their lives as a human would be over.

Love the theme of Morpheus showing mercy towards characters in the show. First, with John Dee, he recognised that it wasn’t entirely his fault that he did what he did. Then, to Fiddler’s Green to whom he could not punish his leaving. And Lastly, to Gault who he realised had just wanted to bring happiness rather than despair to humanity. It’s a stark contrast to his unrelenting punishment of Alex Burgess, Richard Madoc and The Corinthian for inflicting harm upon both himself and humanity.

Nothing but respect for fandom’s (all fandoms) ability to find two available men to ship, but it’s hilarious how people (the ones who probably haven’t read the comics, nothing against them but that’s important) view Dream and Hob’s relationship. Dream has been in numerous relationships before. He was married? had a kid even. He isn’t going to be a stranger to the possibility of a relationship/how to go about getting into one. What is going to be the stumbling block is that Dream has spent so many years trying to convince himself that Hob is a hamster in a wheel, and not a person who is one of the very few that Dream actually enjoys spending time with. So.
