Jenna Well, Warren and Halstead said they also just loved having plotlines in general with Rainn and John together, similar to their script After Hours with the bedbugs. Warren said that he and Halstead would often approach Jim/ Dwight scenes as if they were a buddy cop movie where both cops want the same goal but their methods to achieving that goal are always fraught with squabbling and misunderstandings, but in the end, they have a bit of a friendship. And I thought that was just such a fun way to explain Jim and Dwight, especially in this episode.

When you listen to the office ladies podcast, they don’t just talk about an episode of the office; they go on deep dives.

And today I was listening to the latest one and they talked about lists. And you know I love lists.

Did you know we can thank Shakespeare for the word “list” as we know it??

I’m sharing this transcript because I was fascinated by this fact and I also I like the other tidbit on why we love lists.

Dr. David Cohen, psychologist and author has 3 specific reasons (and hey let’s make a short list) :

Lists dampen anxiety about the chaos of life.

They give us structure.

They are proof of what we have achieved.

The chaos in my brain can be put to paper, or on a notes app, and it’s now out of my brain and in front of my face, nice and (mostly) orderly. I have adhd and ocd and it’s so helpful.

But I admit I tend to write brain dumps down or wishlists; or too many lists.

And it’s interesting to note that some of us think we’re writing to do lists but we aren’t; hence the frustration.

Yay! I love when I get to explain my harebrained ideas!

I'd been thinking down this line for a bit, but the other week I watched a youtube video kind of slamming the popularity of rewatch podcasts and it got me to sit down and really finetune what I was already toying with.

But basically, I think the venn diagram of people who liked special features/DVD commentary and people who like rewatch podcasts is pretty close to a circle. Maybe not a perfect overlap, but they scratch a really similar itch.

Deleted scenes and bloopers don't fit perfectly, but especially people who liked the commentary overlays. I loved watching an episode of whatever show on DVD box set, then watching the same episode with director's commentary, because I liked hearing all of the BTS and making-of and whatnot. That's fallen by the wayside, but now I've taken up rewatch podcasts when I'm in the car or doing housework or that. It's the same thing -- behind the scenes, making of, reminiscing about how the episodes came together, etc.

The same things I liked about DVD commentary features are the things I like about rewatch podcasts. They're different typefaces of the same font, if you will.

On the flipside, an informal poll of a handful of my friends who don't like rewatch podcasts indicates that they weren't/aren't director's commentary people. Maybe I'll throw it up in a tumblr poll later, widen the sample size a little bit, but I think that the overlap is definitely considerable.

Jenna Yes. And just in case, they also cleared three other options; Laverne's Apple Pies, Laverne's Apple Pies and Others, and Laverne's Pies No Cakes Don't Ask. All four cleared. We had our choice and we went with Laverne's Pies Tires Fixed Also.

apparently Jenna Fischer used to have a juggler boyfriend and one time he went off on a long trip and he gave her his juggling balls and said "whenever you miss me practice juggling and when I come back I will be able to see how much you missed me by what a good juggler you are" and she never practiced once and they broke up
