If we're making aromantic trend today I have to bring forward the first aroace rep I knew.
Roshanna Chatterji in the movement comics!
Tumblr media
(Yes she only says asexual but from context it's clear she means aroace)
The Movement follows a group of teens (early 20s I think a couple) fighting back against police corruption in their area, unfortunately there's only 13 issues.
But Roshanna has been seen in last years (possibly year before) pride comic in the corner of group shots and did get a page in DCs big book of pride so she's not completely forgotten.
Tumblr media
Other members of the group are also queer or from other marginalised communities.
TW for sexual assault, abliesm, homophobia and religious trauma.

Fun story, this. After I reblogged yesterday that art of Tremor, complaining that there isn’t nearly as much of it as I would like, I realized that it is actually perfectly within my power to change this.
So, here is my own Roshanna Chatterji appreciation drawing.

Sex and Violence Among Teens
Hey there, harassment of service robots. There is but a quarter of The Movement left, so let's just move right into it, eh?
Here's the cover:
Tumblr media
The Batgirl vs Katharsis crossover continues. And now, Batgirl! Who was already the major focus of last issue, but here she is! In case you forgot, I guess. I like the symbolic use of their spirit animals in the sky behind them. More superheroes need to do this, at least those with animal theming. Can you imagine this going on with Spider-Man and his various rogues? Splash a huge symbolic octopus across the sky, that'd be fantastic~
So if you recall last issue, Batgirl showed up in Coral City and had an altercation with the Movement. She's here to apprehend a fellow named Reese with light powers. They don't get along, even after a meeting with doughnuts. So the Movement decides to knock Batgirl out and take her hostage to find out her identity as leverage over her. And meanwhile, mysterious bits of Virtue's backstory are coming to light in the side plots. And that's where we pick up!
The Movement takes Batgirl to one of their rooms in their underground base, and Tremor joins them at this point. She's not sure this is a good idea, but Virtue decides they need to go ahead, and she pulls out a weirdly outdated phone. Like, they had iPhones in 2013, yet she has this weird Blackberry-looking fucker with a phsyical keyboard. As Virtue reaches to peel Batgirl's mask away, there's some memories from Batgirl recalling ...certain imagery from The Killing Joke. And she wakes up and lashes back at Virtue with a huge spike in red emotions: rage.
Batgirl spends a couple pages reactionarily lashing out at the various Movement members, knocking most of them on their asses. Burden is the only one who's too terrified of her to actually approach her. As soon as Batgirl regains her senses, she re-adjusts her mask and helps the Movement back to their feet. Virtue asks if Batgirl ever gets told she hits like a girl, and Batgirl says "no". Virtue says she didn't think so, and takes Batgirl's offered hand. Okay, that's a pretty good exchange.
Meanwhile, Katharsis has missed this whole exchange because she's off finding Reese for Batgirl. She gets a report from one of the silver-masked civilians who's spotted him just sitting in an alley. Katharsis wisely advises them not to approach, and the masked individual assures her she's in no hurry to do so. The Cornea Killer's still at large, after all. (There's only three issues left, I hope they get back to that.) Katharsis knocks Reese down (who is in full costume now) and then just asks him to calm down and explain his story.
We get a brief scene of the Graveyard Faction informing James Cannon that they're tendering their resignation, and the Cornea Killer reminds us that he is still in the story. I was wondering, thanks! Anyways, Virtue and Batgirl are making up after the attempted unmasking and fight. Batgirl notes the school-like surroundings, and relents that perhaps the Movement does do some good, teaching and housing people that the system won't. But Reese is a killer and can't be trusted. Virtue says she trusts Katharsis' judgement. Cut over to a single panel of Katharsis and Reese making out in the moonlight. Hmmm.
There's also a brief interlude about Mouse and Tremor's relationship. See, she's very flattered by Mouse's attention, but she's not interested and not for the reasons you might expect. Actually, she's asexual and just doesn't have that sort of interest in anyone. And when Mouse doesn't get it (even making the "a sexual what?" comment), she has to sit him down and explain it. Offscreen, fortunately, the story doesn't interrupt for a full discussion on asexuality. Vengeance Moth, showing up for the first time today, comments that she thought superheroing would be all booty calls and hookups. Burden replies that he doesn't understand anything anyone says anymore.
And speaking of hookups... Katharsis and Reese have sex on a rooftop. No joke. This is actual things that have happened. Anyway, Katharsis is fully on his side, accepting that he acted in self-defense and refusing to allow any harm or wrongful arrest to come to him. And down on the ground, the same masked girl points out their location to the rest of the Movement. Katharsis flies Reese over to a bridge nearby to await her teammates and explain her reasoning. It's basically this: he may not have been born here, but he was born in a place like it. His experiences are relatable, in short.
So they meet up. They can hear sirens in the distance, and it's actually Virtue who called them. If you remember, Reese also killed some cops only, like, a couple hours ago, and Katharsis is pissed they did it while he had blood on his hands. He admits that he blacks out when he uses his powers, and doesn't remember. But if the cops turn up, they'll kill him right back. There's some debate, but Katharsis decides to live with the idea that this could happen again if they let him go. And they let him go. Batgirl ends on amicable terms, promising she'll look in on him. And... that's the end!
Well, that was a moody and introspective issue, and I like that. So far, I’d say this issue really summed up what the series wanted to be in total. Teens with teen problems doing teen things fighting against an oppressive society. Good stuff. Next time’s our last two issues, and they’re gonna focus on Burden, so we’ll see how that shakes out~
