FFXIVwrite2023 7.Noisome
Characters: Y'zel Tia, Thancred Waters
Expansion: Endwalker
Rating: T
Notes: Sleepy, but better than some smelly shorts
A warm gust blew through Y’zel’s hair as he threw another set of pages into the fire, Pulling at the collar of his shirt, he lifted it to block his nose, blocking the putrid fumes of the ink. His eyes narrowed, watching his once proud work be set aflame. Heavy bootsteps approaching, he turned, feeling their vibrations well before his ears honed in on them. His eyes flitted up, finding Thancred’s furrowed gaze set upon him.
“You’ve had a change of heart then,” the Scion scoffed, “well it’s too late for apologies.”
The Miqo’te didn’t respond, adding another of his tomes to the fire, watching it crumble to nothing. Ear twitching, he drew his firearm and jumped back, Thancred’s blade landing where stood. Squatting, he glowered then hopped up onto a nearby branch, firing a warning shot toward him and watching it ricochet off an aetheric barrier.
“Where is Patient Heaven,” the Scion yelled out.
“If I knew, I would be in pursuit, myself.”
Thancred sneered, sheathing his weapon, “I told you, did I not? You’d regret putting ink to paper,”
The Hyur picked up one of the tomes, thrusting it into the fire with the others. Y’zel didn’t answer, bracing himself on the trunk, tail flicking. “And so it has come to pass. I don’t need you or the Scion’s help. Go back to wherever you’ve disappeared to and leave me to clean my own mess.”

"The pricelessness of repeatedly grasping your hand
The voice that no longer reaches out now quietly smiles
I denied it all and closed my eyes
Melt this scene into, lies."

Something just occurred to me.
Pair Lost One’s Weeping and Tokyo Teddy Bear and you basically have Aventio.
Let me elaborate-
Lost One’s Weeping: The song can have a few different interpretations. But the one I’m going with is that it’s about someone who was not only poorly molded into the role of an “adult” by their education, but also can no longer see the worth in themselves unless they succeed by the standards placed before them.
“Can you say the formula for area now?”
“Can you scream the dreams that would never come out?”
“Who was the one who let my hopes just curl up and die?”
“Hey who could it be?”
“No it’s gotta be-!”
“Just open up your eyes, why don’t you grow up and see?!”
“But what the hell is growing up and tell me when will I be?!”
“Can a single person out there just explain it to me?!”
“Hey just tell me how.”
“IT’S NOT LIKE I CARE NOW!”
Tokyo Teddy Bear: A bit less straightforward than Lost One’s Weeping, but still easy enough to grasp. In short, my interpretation is that it’s about someone who no longer believes they are the person they used to be, and that they’ve become completely undone and are beyond saving.
“There's nothing left, nothing left anymore: It's all torn off.”
“Even my cells disappear into this sea of lint.”
“That’s right, I’m gone, gone, thrown away.”
“I don't even have a home to go back to.”
“Proof of my existence-”
“Ah, shut up! My body’s made of lies!”
“I want to complete it, I want to cheat, give me the answer, right now!”
“I can't change? Do I want to be kept like a pet? Is it all gone? This isn’t me!”
“The seams have split and torn apart…”
This is what really draws me in about both of them as individuals and as a pair. How exceptionally messed up they both are but in opposite ways. Ratio was told he was supposed to be everything, while Aventurine was told he was less than nothing.
I really do want to explore this dichotomy more. There’s a lot of fun to be had with it.

It's not fiction
When will you grow up?
What the heck does it mean to be an "adult" in the first place?
Who can I ask for help from?
Hey, what should I do?
It doesn't matter anymore.
