I love Lee Min Ki character in 'behind your touch'. It's different from 'because this is my first life' and 'the beauty inside'. Those character were very robot like and serious. Where as this one he's in casual clothes and has facial expressions.

The Beauty Inside (2015) | thoughts |

I just finished watching this movie with my girlfriend! It was phenomenal!! I rarely sit down for a movie so I'm glad this one seemingly happened to fall out of the sky this Sunday.

As an esoteric girl who's interests naturally extend into psychology and art, I find a movie like this one especially perfect. The premise is cliche yet profound which is so attractive for a sap like me who loves to project my ideals onto *everything*. The movie begins in a somber tone (at least to me) as the exposition unravels and we become intimately aware of the recluse and ambiguous life of main character, Kim Woo-Jin. He wakes up a different person everyday,,,young, old, man, woman, he assumes the face of all but his own. With a plot like this, it's hard NOT to derive a cosmic lesson or two from the whole tale.

NONATTACHMENT!!!

Non-attachment is a philosophy you see often in Buddhist traditions and also a theme that sticks out to me having watched this movie. Most of the characters in this movie display qualities of the concept and at varying degrees. The two leads go through a metamorphosis of ego and spirit showcasing how love can exist within the complexities of this long since misunderstood philosophy.

"Love without attachment means being aware that our possessions can break, get stolen or change, and that sadly people can leave or die."

These characters didn't really have the luxury of encountering this ideology in the typical sense through spiritual exploration or meditation and that makes it all the more important. We watch the male lead navigate grief over the loss of one's sense of self. A truly unique plight. We watch him grapple with acceptance over and over again as his life is at the will of his oscillating appearance. By proxy, Hong E-soo, our ever exuberant female lead, goes through several mental hurdles as she learns to love our damned Kim Woo-Jin.

By the end, it felt like I witnessed a complete evolution, one with many stages and nuances. Forty minutes in and I had already gone through the 7 stages of grief. The second act almost took me off this PLANET. I can't recommend it enough! Even without the mystics of it all, it's a very, very sweet movie and the cinematography is such a treat. Give it a watch and maybe remember to let go while you're at it!

So I got a little distracted and thus lost on some details during the first episode of The Beauty Inside (2018) so I decided to find an old school kdrama recap blog to get the gist of what I missed and at the end of the recap was this:

Its like uncovering an ancient relic from the dark ages, aka the age before our guys were the most famous, recognizable faces on the planet. Unreal.

There was a zombie apocalypse that began when Seok Woo and his daughter got on a train to travel from Seoul to Busan by a fast train. The planet was overrun by zombies throughout their voyage, compelling the passengers to battle for their lives and protect their families from the zombies.

3. The Beauty Inside

A guy wakes up in a different person’s body every single day and transform into someone else. Whoever he transform into is regardless of their age, gender, or ethnicity. However, he is still himself in the soul but he looks different when other people looks at him.

4. My Love Don’t Cross That River

This is more a documentary where a long-time married elderly couple who always hold hands and where couple “hanbok” wherever there go. They enjoy every single day together throughout the four seasons. One day, the husband starts coughing and get weaker day by day. The wife then prepares for a farewell.

5. The Age of Shadows

This movie depicts Korean resistance fighter attempting to smuggle bombs into Seoul under Japanese rule in the 1920s. The story full illustrates and shows how friends and fellow countrymen find themselves on opposing side during times of political persecution, as well as the enormous personal difficulties that can result.

6. The Handmaiden

This movie is about a young woman who is engaged as a handmaiden to Lady Hideko, a Japanese heiress. Without Hideko knowing, the new aide con artist collaborates with forces from the outside to have committed to an asylum as well as lose all her of her fortune.

7. The Wailing

The Wailing is an award winning horror film and had may viewers who loved the show. The story was set in a tiny village where a weird ailment has begun spreading among locals after the appearance of a mysterious stranger who is assumed to be an evil ghost. It is definitely suitable for a scary movie night.

8. Burning

This story is about a guy who desires to be a writer but is current working part-time for a distribution company as a delivery man. One day, he ran into his childhood friend while doing his delivering job. They happen to form a bond but everything becomes confusing when she came back from a trip along Steven Yeun’s well-to-do- Ben.

9. The Witch

A female high school student was trained to become a murder weapon and medical experiments are used on living bodies in the process. This student then happens to suffer through an identity crisis and gets involved in a crime. There is a Part 2 for this movie as well where a girl becomes a lone survivor of the secret laboratory.

10. Space Sweepers

This is a Sci-fi movie which shares about a ragtag group of space junk collectors and the reprogrammed military robot Bubs Scavenge space trash to make a living. In this story, there is then a growing sense of divided society where the poor is forced to survive by sabotaging systems.

Not Kdramas making me realize that I have a thing for the Older Rich/Wealthy, Hard-working and Work-Focused Woman Who May Not Know How To People (in a SoftTM way) and her human lapdog the Younger Infinitely More Sensitive Philosophical* Dude Who She Shares Very Sexy Snarky Banter With.

*philosophical is the only similarity i could think of between artist and not-a-priest.

The Beauty inside makes no sense to me. I get that he has face blindness and I get that she changes into different people. But why did she owe his family money? Why is his sister such a bitch to him? I'm only on episode 10 so maybe I'll get those answers. It's just all confusing.
