Current obsession: Swept Away, the Avett Brothers jukebox musical inspired by the wreck of the Mignonette. I don't know how many of my fellow shipmates of Boat Tumblr are also musical theater and/or folk-rock people, but if you are, please let me know, especially if you're a The Terror/Moby-Dick/In The Heart Of The Sea person.

Forever I will move like the world that turns beneath me
And when I lose my direction I'll look up to the sky
And when the black dress drags upon the ground
I'll be ready to surrender, and remember
We're all in this together
Song Review: The Avett Brothers - “Pick up the Tempo” (Live)
Playing with their full complement of musicians, the Avett Brothers worked wonders on “Pick up the Tempo.”
The Avetts’ toke on Willie Nelson’s number comes from “WIllie Nelson 90: Live at the Hollywood Bowl,” which arrives in audio and video formats Dec. 15 and will air on CBS in edited form two days later. Dave Matthews’ performance of “Funny How Time Slips Away” preceded it.
Like Nelson, the Avetts are loose but tight in rendering “Tempo.” Unlike Nelson, they’re tighter than they are loose. And like Nelson again, the Avetts sound like only themselves, no matter the origin of the material.
