faiza !!!!! this might be a bit random but what are ur Feelings on madam yu as a character,, shes so .. interesting to me
yuraaaa!!! hi hi hiiiii!!! oooooft. yu ziyuan, man! what a character. i've never really had a chance to extensively talk about her. but now i realise i do have a fair bit to say about her.
she's. man. i feel she partly represents, ya know, the asian wife and mother, in a very quiet way. the repression, the misplacement of anger, doing things out of duty as a (sect leader's) wife and mother.
you know, she just ... holds so much emotion manifested in her. she was stuck in ... this loveless, static marriage. or rather, there was love, and she Knew her husband loved her. but sometimes Knowing isnt enough, you need to show it/express it. and she was within her married rights, as a wife, to ask for that expression of love from her husband. but not only did he lack in expressing it (until her dying moments at her death), but she was in the shadows of rumours that placed her being second to another woman, whose son she had to end up raising. and so ultimately, thats exactly what happened with jiang cheng.
so she makes wei wuxian and jiang cheng, both, her punching bags. wei wuxian for the bitterness she harbours from the rumours and the gossip, and that her husband was never man enough to say something back, and jiang cheng became her punching bag for her bitterness towards her own perceived shortcomings, that maybe she felt she herself was just ... never enough.
was that wrong? yes. but .... she was just. she had a lot of pride, that became her cover, from this ... institution of a loveless marriage that she was trying so hard to salvage and then the duties that motherhood placed her in, including raising wwx. she manifested everything into this bitter rage and resentment as her front, never letting anyone in bc once they would it'd all pour out, and zidian became not only her weapon, but it personified her. but she fulfilled her duties. as a sect leader's wife and a mother, right until her death.
as a woman, she didnt need a man to ever protect her, bc we Know she can do that for herself, but as a wife, she wanted and yearned for her husband's companionship and his compassion and his expression of love to her, which she was well within her rights to ask and desire for.
ig she died knowing her husband came back for her, that when push came to shove, he acted and showed her he did love her. but .... she deserved more of those moments throughout her married life, not just a few seconds away before she died.
