Rdr Discourse AGAIN.

Note: Seriously angry rant here. You in this context stands for any bull shitters in general. Not a specific person or persons. How many times have I made this post since 2018? This is going to get hate, but everyone is hating someone for something these days valid or not.

The fandom is dying and everyone is complaining. I have in the past. Maybe if people were actually civil to each other in this fandom that wouldn’t happen? I have had SO MANY good friends or decent people I know of leave the fandom because they were disgusted with the behavior here or were the target of horrible harassment. I don’t blame them. Every time I come back from a hiatus due to IRL stuff, I see more outrageous behavior.

You know what happens then? You’re left with a lot of the worst people or decent people who feel they can’t interact with the fandom.

Stop with this purity bullshit. People going through fucking witch hunts going not only through every post people make but who they follow? Grow up. Get off the computer and do something decent with your lives. Yes, this fandom is totally racist, transphobic, sexist and homophobic, but some people who want to talk about it are threatening to cut people’s heads off or trying to stalk them? Finding where people work? Is that what I’m hearing? If so, that’s extreme behavior and you are not doing a damn thing changing people’s behavior. That is insane behavior. If anything, you’re going to make them feel like they are in the right. Call this behavior out! But going to extreme measures is bullshit. I am disgusted. Sure, some of you will say “then leave”! Lol. No. Someone shouldn’t have to leave a fandom because of bullying or harassment unless they do something absolutely heinous and unforgivable. I will make smart choices about who I chose to interact with. It’s sad that I’ve literally lived with death threats and attempted doxxing because of a video game I will say, I am losing my passion though. I’ve lost a huge amount of it for awhile. How can anyone be passionate in this environment. You know who it’s unfair to? The people who worked 5+ years on this game- some of these same people who have been getting death threats. People are destroying a beautiful and rich game because of petty reasons or for fear of their lives. Also, while I will not leave the fandom, if I don’t post rdr content or whatever else you’re looking for that’s “not enough for you”. Guess what, I work two jobs, have class and responsibilities. I already said why it’s hard to write or do anything anyway. I’m busy and even then, you don’t get to snap your fingers at me and tell me what I need to post on my own blog. Content creators are leaving because of not bullying, but straight up harassment. I have had people say I shouldn’t reblog a meme or photo because it comes from someone who did something to someone months ago. Most of the time unless it’s something truly awful., then I don’t know and those I do know? I don’t associate with. No. Not playing that game. But it’s not surprising though since so many people don’t do anything support them to begin with Some of these people have been wrong and truly racist. Good, get them out of here. Some people have realized they are wrong and they are trying to learn. I have so much I want to share with everyone as far as my writing goes, but I know that no matter what I write, someone is going to attack me. Some of you with your purity bullshit are literally stopping other people from being represented like LGBTQ+ folks. There is hardly any wlw material because of sexism and people also bullying creators or people who try to interact. If it’s truly toxic and wrong, then call it out or block them. If not, then leave it alone Same with the audio files. Guess what, people? You can’t change what audio came from the person’s mouth. Obviously, I don’t post the racist ones, but I’ve had people bitch because it makes their character look bad. Sorry, Dutch or Javier or Abigail or Grimshaw, or John said what they said. They are fucking outlaws. No duh.

I’ve already talked about the ships before. Stop sending death threats because you don’t like someone’s ship. Stop attacking people as a character. I HATE certain ships and guess what? I blacklist those tags. I guarantee I can go find almost any profile and find a reason to have someone canceled. Block the tags and move on like anyone else. It also saves you SO MUCH TIME. Death threats is not acceptable and you know that. People are saying this shit because they are hiding behind a computer, but I know that people won’t stop because they are bored with their life and have nothing better to do. Sad thing is, it’s in every fandom and every platform. Guess I’ll see you in a few weeks when I say the same thing again.

~i have once again posted an intro with a working title~

genre: new adult, literary (?)

pov: third person present tense, potentially split pov

premise: early adulthood is challenging. tomas’ trauma creeps up on him. junie doesn’t know who she is. kristen feels trapped. manon can’t keep up with herself. and selkie wants to know everything about them.

literal logline: couple of disaster kids in shitty student housing try to figure out who they are

the vibes: mist, secret spaces in the woods, empty streets at night, libraries at 3am, going to the big supermarket at 10pm, house parties you shouldn’t be at, being lost and embracing it

deals with: lgbtqia+ identity, bad family dynamics, mental health, girlhood and sisterhood, friendship, found family

so whats going on here?

this novel feels both old and new. some of these characters i’ve had for years, some are new - but these are characters that are dear to my heart and the old ones i feel like have grown up with me. the past two years at uni have been the most formative of my life - i feel like i’ve always been an emotional person, but the highs and lows i’ve experienced these past two years? nobody prepared me.and it’s felt like a rollercoaster that never stops, even when nothing is happening, and i wanted to write something that honours that. i also want to give love to the new adult genre because the publishing industry won’t >:( at first this felt v coming of age, but then i realised that it’s really not that. it’s the years after, where you think you have everything figured out, quickly realise you don’t, and then find a weird peace in not having everything figured out. i have zero intentions to ever publish this and it’d take a lot to change that. this is going to be “comfort writing” at it’s finest; it’s also something i want to help keep the hobby element of writing as writing transitions to part of my degree + work. i also have never managed to write a full novel, so i want to give myself that challenge and see how well i get along with longer works. i’m 100% writing the book that 19 year old me wishes she had, and 20 year old me wishes she could have now. i’m always attached to my pieces but this one truly feels part of me and i feel like the writing experience will end up pretty cathartic.

the setting ;

this is set in sheffield, uk. this is actually where i attend university and spend half the year! i was apprehensive about a) making a piece set there and b) sharing that, but as i brainstormed this idea it kept being more and more heavily inspired by the city i know, and since the novel pretty much honours this last two years of my life, why not set it there? i also think sheffield is a v interesting city and could be utilised way more as a setting @ uk lit :( when i think of sheffield, i think of the nightlife, the student crowd, the skyline from the top floor library room, the graffiti, the global street food events, the vegan markets, the christmas markets, the botanical gardens (where the photo is from!), the hills that kill your legs, the gay quarter, the overpriced vintage stores, the languages, the way you can see the hills and fog from the city centre, the peak district being a bus journey away, the way there’s little distinction between urban and rural, the way it amazed and terrified me coming from a small town in the country. these things are just the start of what i want to capture i’m also heavily inspired by the train journey between sheffield and manchester; its less than an hour and v quickly becomes fields, mountains and tiny railway/mountain towns. i wanted to play with that and try to encapsulate both that atmosphere and that of the city

right now? a lot of playing around and brainstorming. making moodboards. imagining characters in scenarios. since i don’t outline my work before i write them i’m taking this very slow and also don’t know how consistently i’ll even work on it. what you see here is very much the bare bones of a story, something that i used to be afraid of, but now i’m embracing! i literally only know the opening chapter and a handful of scenes. part of me is nervous to post about this when it’s at such an early form, but also what’s the fun in waiting for it to be polished? also this is me holding myself accountable to not drop this piece lmao

i won’t be starting a taglist for this, not yet. i want to get comfortable w the work and figure out how i want to go about it first. i also have no idea when the next update will be and how it’ll look, but when church mud goes more into the research/revision stage, you’ll probably hear a lot about this piece (and in probably a lot of detail since i have zero plans to publish. exciting!).

- Richies daughter most certainly has to force Stan’s to study. Starryklance (creator of the Shipper Block List) later made excuses for her saying stuff like “She didn’t know, she doesn’t ship it now” & had the audacity to tag it as “Don’t rush to conclusions & accuse people right away without any proof” even though she, quiznah & klanced had all made false claims about the shaladin mod of voltronwlwmonth. The antis make excuses for them, lying that she’s a minor who was Robin-Hooding a bunch of gross “incest” shippers who allegedly infested the zine (rival shippers were not allowed in the zine because it was a McHanzo-ONLY zine). What really happened was that she was QUOTING ANTIS who called him that (one of their many attacks to demonize Shiro in order to make Shaladin ships abusive). They also claim that they DID report a rapists’ blog after they were traumatized by a rape video of an underaged girl, from a “report this rapist” post that Minty linked them, which would have been impossible because you can’t actually watch the video without PMing the rape blog for the video file first. Anti tries to remain a pure defender against sheith & shaladin but openly goes gaga for Devilman Crybaby, a series that should have made their heads explode considering the “problematic content” in it. They even try to bar shaladins from the fandom, claiming that the “antis” were there first despite being a 17 year old & the original Devilman manga being made in the 70s. They also attempt to shame & scold the Devilman fandom before getting blasted by both antis & shaladins for being such a hypocrite. Eventually they shut their inbox & went on hiatus.

Vldflops, a hate group full of antis, starts reposting people’s art (heith, shaladin, langst) to mock & deride on Instagram, often calling the artist a pedophile & an abuser. They even went so far as to post uncensored photos of REAL SUICIDAL/DEPRESSED PEOPLE slitting their wrists & then had the nerve to “educate them” (in a condescending & insultingly uncaring manner) not to “romanticize self-harm”. They even went so far as to encourage their followers to cyberstalk & send death threats to people & when one victim said that they were going to commit suicide, vldflops immediately posted cropped (in a biased way) screencaps of the DMs on their instagram & cried to their followers about how their victim was giving them anxiety by trying to commit suicide over a ship. (Which is 100% a lie & vldflops has gone back to harassing those same people AGAIN).

Klantis illegally record Jeremy Shada accidentally breaking his NDA at an autograph signing (he spoiled some stuff about future seasons) & upload footage of it online, titling it as “Jeremy confirms canon Klance!”. It is literally nothing like that & now Jeremy is in legal trouble. Antis ignore this (other than the few who deleted the footage & posts of it) & celebrate Jeremy “escaping Lauren’s basement to confirm that Klance is canon”. They openly tweet at Lauren that Jeremy hates her & is “Klance cannon king”. (1, 2, 3, 4, 5)

Antis bring up an old post about Josh from a whole year ago & start making fake accounts of him on twitter claiming that he is a pedophile & sending him & his family death threats. They harass him NONSTOP for 2 whole days & continue this even when he reports their accounts. Josh ends up caving to the antis & they openly celebrate his surrender, make fake apologies or excuses (”they’re just meme vines, not REAL death threats!”) for their behavior & continue to send him MORE death threats.

This leads to a tremendous amount of antis either doubling down on their “right” to send Josh & his family death threats or claiming that they had no idea that any of this was happening despite openly supporting their friends (who were sending the threats) & constantly shittalking the cast & defending people sending them threats for over a whole DAMN YEAR. (Check the Bex knife threats to see examples of that.)

Klantis harass Jeremy Shada on instagram for saying that “Keith & Lance have a brotherly relationship” in an interview. (1)

Anti harasses 2 adult Sheith cosplayers over their lap dance at an 18+ con & claims that they’re harassing the Shiro cosplayer because “they hate black people”. (1)

Kihyun Ryu’s art gets attacked by antis for being too “Sheith-y”. (1)

An anti by the name of bluepaladinstan harasses an underaged VLD cosplayer on twitter for being a shaladin. The harassment has been going on for MONTHS. (1)

Antis literally defend their racist caricature fanart by saying that the canon skin colors are “too boring” & that anyone who criticizes them is a racist. (1)

Anti admits that they will not confront people in real life over problematic choices (like buying 50 Shades of Grey) but that’s it’s “safer” for them to attack people online, despite this having less impact than doing it irl (because they really don’t care that much about their own cause - they’re a coward). Anti makes up bullshit story about how fanfiction led her “sweet” friend sexually assault children and pet dogs & how fanfiction is worse than “doing lines of crack cocaine”. (You can’t even do lines of crack cocaine! It’s physically impossible!) (1)

Anti rants about their best friend of 3 years being a Shidge shipper & another anti encourages them to dump their friend. (1)

Anti is so disgusted by Shaladin ships that they became grossed out by their own boyfriend (20) being 2 years older than them until they remembered that they turn 19 in a few months. (1)

An anti, keilua, makes a GoFundMe page to take them to Dreamworks HQ to punch the entire staff in the throats. (1)

Antis attack black comic artist for “drawing the VLD comic cover too ugly”. They even celebrate when the cover is pulled (not due to harassment but due to other circumstances). (1)

Sinningpaladin, aka sinpal, abuses antis & uses them to slam Shaladins & gain popularity with a flimsy lie that they were a Dreamworks intern, (claiming that Sheith was disgusting & that Dreamworks intended Klance to be endgame). This isn’t found out (by the antis anyway) until sinpal goes too far with the power the antis gave them. Later, they “apologize” by blaming it on their meds & mental illness. (1, 2)

Antis accuse POC Lance cosplayers in Shamus’ “Lance is Bi” article of brownfacing despite literally being presented a photo of the cosplayers’ faces. They suddenly retreat after the cosplayers themselves refute them on twitter. Meanwhile, an anti doubles down on it & claims that Shaladins using this incident as proof that antis are racist are even MORE racist & that it’s okay for antis to accuse POC of brownfacing so long as they get “educated” about it. They also rant that lightskin POC shouldn’t care about being accused of brownfacing because they will never suffer as much as darkskin POC. (1, 2)

They also attack Lion Forge (a POC-run company) over the VLD cover being “whitewashed” despite the fact that it was another company handling the covers & there was no way for Lion Forge to get it fixed. (1, 2)

Klantis make Jeremy’s selfies with his girlfriend all about Klance instead, claiming that the rainbow is proof of Jeremy supporting Klance, (this was an actual rainbow & not the LGTBQ+ flag btw). They also make endless disrespectful jokes about Lauren locking the cast in the basement & drew fanart of that, too.

Klantis draw fanart of Jeremy x Steven for Klance & secretly recorded their white classmates, (claiming that they’re Klance whitesonas because they’re wearing red & blue shirts), while accusing Shaladins of doing the same thing for Sheith. They continue spouting the term “whitesona” with zero irony. (1, 2)

So I got tagged by @writsgrimmyblog quite a while ago, and didn’t get around to answering it since I was travelling, so got further tagged by @dictacontrion and @huldrejenta. So this is very long. Hence the cut thing.

1. What’s your favourite quote from a book or poem? I'm not the best at picking out quotes and I've never been big on poetry, but Kate Tempest has some texts that really digs into my soul. Seeing her at the third biggest stage at Glastonbury, a spoken word artist drawing such a crowd - was pretty powerful. So I chose this quote from her 'Tunnel Vision':

"The myth of the individual has left us disconnected, lost, and pitiful" (which sounds a bit bleak, but the whole poem/album is really powerful, and it ends on a sort of hopeful note.)

I only ever dance like nobody's watching :D latest to Pumarosa at their set at Glastonbury, and then to some pretty heavy techno waiting for Josefin Örn's set at the Glade. While I don't listen to it much on my own, nothing really makes me let loose and not give a shit like hard electronic music does wrt dancing.

3. What’s your favourite ship to read? Currently Larry. Fic wise it's such a varied pairing to read - covering so many themes and settings - so I never manage to get tired of it. I also really love Tomlinshaw, but Drarry is always in my heart - my first and deepest fandom love.

4. If you could own one item of clothing belonging to any celebrity what would you pick and why? Umm, is it weird to be in a celeb related fandom and say that I don't really pay that much attention to celebrities? I guess in the sense of overall style I usually like Kristen Stewart's choices and I'd probably be more than happy to wear her wardrobe at all times. But for a single item I'd probably go for one of Harry Styles's lush and luxurious and ridiculously expensive floral blouses and pair it with a pair of high waisted skinny jeans and my brogues.

5. Gif with a hard or soft ‘g’? Well, as I usually pronounce file formats in Norwegian, the hard g is the only one that makes sense. I suppose we do have a version of soft g too, but that would make it yif, and that just sounds weird. So hard g it is!

6. What’s your favourite fanfic ‘getting together’ trope? Hmm, does coming to terms with one's sexuality count as a getting together trope? That always hits me really hard and feels very emotional. Otherwise I guess friends to lovers and enemies to lovers, with loads of pining and ust.

7. What’s your guiltiest pleasure? I'm not sure I actually have a really guilty pleasure? I used to watch a lot of Americas next top model, just because I loved seeing the process with the photo shoots, so maybe that's a little guilty with regards to how the modelling and fashion industry perpetuates some very unhealthy things.

8. Most relatable 1D (or solo 1D) lyric? “If tomorrow you won’t be mine, won’t you give it to me one last time” JK LMAO but no one can convince me that song isn’t fucking hilarious. For real though, I’m more of a melody than lyrics kind of gal, so I’m not entirely sure? Maybe this one, for good luck, since I’m making some changes in my life (also bonus since they are Louis’ lines :D): “I think I'm gonna win this time, Riding on the wind and I won't give up, I think I'm gonna win this time, I roll and I roll, 'til I change my luck, I roll and I roll, 'til I change my luck”

9. If you could give one piece of advice to a celebrity, what would it be? I don't necessarily feel like I have any good basis for giving advice to celebs, but I guess just remembering to keep a healthy perspective towards the world, and to use their platform for good. Their participation in politics and activism could do more good than I think a lot of them realise. (But stay informed and think before you speak.)

10. Tell me your favourite joke. You know, I literally can’t think of a single joke. I guess I could search for some, but that would sort of belie the point.

11. If you were famous for a day, what question would you most dread being asked during an interview? I think anything related to diet/workout routine/keeping my body in shape would make me feel really uncomfortable and objectified.

1. If you could have one billion dollars or the not (or only incidentally) profitable superpower of your choosing, which would you choose and why? As my big dream/my favourite thing to do is travelling and seeing the world, my chosen superpower would probably be teleportation. BUT teleportation would still leave me with the issue of spending money and getting days off work (unless I used the teleportation for criminal purposes I guess). So I think I'd go for the billion dollars, which not only would enable me to travel as much and however I'd like, but is such a ridiculous amount of money that maybe I could use it to do some good in the world.

2. What article of clothing makes you feel most awesome? The way I dress is incredibly dependent on my mood, but I guess maybe my denim shorts? Mostly because of the setting in which I would wear them. I love the feeling of warm air and sun on bare skin more than practically anything, so the few occasions where I'm able to wear my denim shorts I feel happy and awesome from the get-go :)

3. How did you get into your most recent fandom? That must be the 1d fandom, so long story short: a 1d fanfic based m/m novel tickled my curiousity, Harry's 'not that important' even more so. Got recommended the fantastic gryles fic “If this is love” by sunsetmog which I read and adored, and diving deeper into sunsemog’s fics I then read “I had rather hear my dog bark at a crow” which till this day still stands as one of my fave ever fics. Then followed some arbitrary tumblr searching and blog following, and in time the rabbit hole that is Larry swallowed me hole and has failed to spit me back out.

4. What’s your least favorite/most hated book, and why? I’m terribly impatient, so I don’t really finish stuff I don’t like? So I don’t really have that passionate bad feelings about any one book I’ve read. Read some 1800s Norwegian realism/naturalism literature in high school which at the time felt like a drag, but in hindsight I’m very happy I read. Moby Dick annoyed the hell out of me, and I gave up halfway through, but I still don’t hate it, I don’t think. So I don’t really know *shrugs*

5. Describe a fanwork you’d love to read/see/watch, but don’t want to create yourself, please? Ummm, a long and plotty Ginny/Luna fic maybe. I’d love to read more femslash, but the fics I’ve seen out there are usually just little ficlet. And nothing against a good ficlet, but I’m longing to dive deep into a long and immersive wlw story. (Incidentally, if anyone have any such recs, be it fanfic or original fiction, I’d be happy to hear about it!)

6. What would be the lineup of your ideal music festival? Ahhhh this is simultaneously the hardest and the best possible question for me!! Okayyy: Grimes, Years & Years, One Direction (ofc), Pumarosa, Arctic Monkeys, Lianne La Havas, Shura, The Shins, Loyle Carner, Wolf Alice, Ezra Furman, Lady Gaga and Rihanna (the two of whom I don't listen to much, but I think they'd bring some amazing pop flair), the Kills, Chvrches, All We Are, Warpaint, Tame Impala, Susanne Sundfør, Amason and then Katzenjammer for some fun nostalgia, ohh and Kate Tempest! and Charli XCX was a lot of fun and I wouldn’t mind seeing her again. ummm okay and then a club line-up for after hours with AlunaGeorge, Disclosure, Hot Chip, Roger Sanchez, Röksopp ft Robyn, Christine Dancke and Nick Grimshaw because why not ;) (And now I’ll probably go on to regret everyone I forgot to add)

7. You’re given the power to unilaterally create one law or policy in one country - what is it? To nationalise all natural resources so their riches would benefit the people rather than a few rich private business owners and multinational corporations who are often not even based locally.

8. If you had to commit to living in one place for the rest of your life, what would it be? Part of me wants to say London, but I think realistically I'll have to choose Bergen (in Norway)<3

9. Thinking about your life a year from now, what’s one thing that you hope will be different? I hope I’m no longer in this limbo between life phases and will have got to implement the changes I’m going for properly.

10. What’s one thing that you hope will be the same? My relationship.

11. What’s the last thing that made you laugh? Was out with some friends for beers last night, which included many laughs, but I can’t remember what in particular that made me laugh. I hang out with these people way to rarely. They’re such great people, and hanging out with them feels so relaxed.

1. What was your favourite album as a teenager? Depends on when you asked me. If I was 13, probably “The Eminem Show”, but as a 17-year old, most definitely Arctic Monkeys’ “Whatever People Say I Am That’s What I’m Not” (which still stands as one of my all time favourites)

2. What’s your favourite album now? Pumarosa – “The Witch” – fantastic album, which I wholeheartedly recommend.

3. One pairing you’d love to have more fanfic/art about? As mentioned above, Ginny/Luna. But also more femslash in general would be pretty fantastic.

4. What’s your favourite villain in books and/or movies? I’m not a villain kind of lady, but maybe Umbridge? I don’t think anyone has ever given me as bad feelings as her, because she’s such a realistic villain in a lot of ways. She’s not caricature evil like Voldy or Sauron, but an everyday, self-involved, closed minded evil. And that’s a very effective kind of evil to hate.

5. Do you believe in supernatural phenomenons? No

6. You can have dinner with any person from history, who would you choose? This is kind of an impossible question. So many interesting persons through history. But, actually, I think I’d really have loved to have met my grandfather on my father’s side. My dad is quite old, so his dad was born in the late 1800s and died long before I was born, but he was a teacher and from the sound of it, incredibly foresighted and modern for a man of that time. Which are values he’s very much passed on to his sons. My dad is amazing. My grandfather was a teacher, and during the Nazi occupation of Norway during WW2, he was among those who lost their jobs because he refused to teach nazi ideology to his pupils. And this was in a small, working class industry town, and my dad has told so many fantastic stories about him. I’d love to have met him and talked to him.

7. Name three things you like about yourself :) While I’m pretty shy, I’m also kind of tough in some ways. I went to Japan without much of a plan and winged it as we went. I started playing rugby at age 27. I started singing in a choir I found by googling, where I didn’t know anyone. I wish that toughness spread to other sides of my life, but at least it’s something. I can sing, something which brings me immense joy. I have a pretty good memory, combined with wide spanning interests and curiosity, so I remember a lot of weird facts and random things.

8. Hogwarts era Drarry, yes or no? Depends. 8th year, post war/canon, yes. Canon divergence (other than ewe), mostly no.

9. What was the last thing you googled? The lyrics for some 1d songs for one of the questions further up :P

10. Favourite Harry Potter book? Hmmmmmmmmmm I don’t know? Maybe Prisoner of Azkaban? They’ve all had very profound effects on me though, so it’s like choosing a favourite child.

11. Favourite museum/gallery? I’ve seen a lot of amazing museum during my life, so that’s kind of impossible to answer as well. But maybe, for nostalgic reasons, Bryggens Museum in Bergen. Because my dad used to take me and my sister there sometimes during weekends when we were little, when my mum needed to sleep after a night shift at the hospital. And he’d tell stories and we’d look at the archaeological spots and the seasonal exhibits, and we’d get soda and cake in the museum café.

a/n: I had two other fic idea I tried to do with this but...this happened. this is my first wlw fic I’ve written since I came out as trans. I did have my lovely assistant @becomingmyinnerdemons help me make sure it wasn’t uncomfortable. As such pretty rated G and kinda fluffy.

Charlie totally loved LARP. She considered herself a bit of a larping queen actually. But she preferred high Fantasy, elves, dragons and magic. She felt comfortable in that setting. She could min-max her way to being the baddest bitch on the game floor. She read books like Harry Potter and the Hobbit. She liked fantasy, it was a happy place where the heroes always won—well, except for Song of Ice and Fire. It was an escape, a warm blanket of an escape. She liked fantasy. She had no interest in dark and gritty settings. Comics in the 90’s had been terrible. Batman was overrated.

She’d seen the source material a few times in her local game store. Books that were marked ADULT as if somehow playing vampires or werewolves were the mature thing to do. Charlie had plenty of adult encounters while in Middle-earth, thank you very much. But when there had been a flyer in her local gamer den for a new larp on the local college campus? Yeah, Charlie had decided to give it a go. Not because she was interested in this pretentious system but because her main game was in its offseason.

Sometimes a girl just needs a larp fix, regardless of the genre.

She had sent an email to the contact on the flyer for the online group for the game. Roads Not Taken was a silly name for a campaign but Charlie had once been in a D&D game called Elf Quest so who was she to judge? She joined the topic for new players where the Story Teller--how weird was that to call your game master?-- that told her the system was just humans who got tapped with powers to fight monsters. It didn’t sound as goth as she had been expecting.

Charlie was wowed by just how normal and geeky everyone had seemed. Just normal geeks who were planning on starting a larp about hunting monsters. One of the other players offered to help her build a character for the system. Charlie was fairly sure she could figure out how to build a character by herself but the offer game with the chance to actually know someone before hitting the game floor so she’d agreed.

They had chatted privately for a couple days before agreeing on a time to meet up before the game to go over the basics. Charlie learned her real name was Jo. Charlie loved talking to her if she was honest. She learned Jo had an older taste in music. She worked with her mom at a bar not too far away. Jo had a wicked sense of humor. Jo also apparently was super well versed in the system. She had pdf copies of all the books for the system that she had emailed to Charlie through an encrypted server. It wasn’t the first time Charlie had gotten a crush on a girl across the internet but she was falling hard for her.

Charlie felt comfortable enough to talk about her own life. How she worked in IT. What her favorite books and tv shows were and how much she really missed having a game that ran on a set schedule. How her Hogwarts house was Gryffindor and Hermione was her favorite character.

Jo said that was adorable. Charlie had screenshot that exchanges to her phone and stared at it sometimes feeling her face go red every time.

Her favorite character from Harry Potter was Ron. She considered herself to by a Gryffindor as well but Pottermore had sorted her into Slytherin of all things. Jo talked about her collection of fantasy swords as well as just knives in general. She mentioned her favorite shows were a little more mystery than fantasy. She liked terrible B horror movies as well as good horror.

Jo even made Hunter the Reckoning seem interesting and three dimensional. Jo made it a very human story. How people could just be going about their lives when suddenly the powers that be pulled back the curtain and revealed the monsters that existed in the world. Jo made the dark and gritty world of darkness even seem kind of cool.

Charlie learned from talking with Jo on her skype that Jo was in at least 3 other larps in the city. Charlie got to learn all the drama of the intersecting Organizations of larps, two vampires and one werewolf. She got to hear some off-topic stories about how her friend Dean was constantly in some new crisis in a game because he couldn’t ignore or not take the bait for a plot. She heard about how the politics of one vampire game screwed up all her fun in the other one.

Jo even asked for her facebook. Charlie had been hesitant to give it at first, it was full of some memes and her different cosplay pictures. But she gave it anyway. She liked Jo. Jo seemed like a good person. Jo was gorgeous. Her smile in her photos was infectious. Charlie found herself smiling every time she got a text or IM from Jo anyways but now she had a face to go with it.

Through facebook, she also got to put other faces to names. Jo started a small group chat with some of the other players going to the hunter game to have a slight chance at building a group that sort of knew each other. Charlie found she liked most of them thought Sam and Dean seemed to be constantly getting each other off track. Adam normally only seemed to communicate with memes. Castiel was the assistant Storyteller for the game and seemed to be trying to keep Dean from getting too out there. Charlie was falling in love with Jo’s friends too.

The only thing Charlie couldn’t seem to ask was whether Jo felt the same way about how they were getting along. They were talking all the time now. Once facebook had been exchanged then Instagram and twitter followed. Charlie wondered if she had a Tumblr but was afraid to ask, her Tumblr was overflowing with personal posts gushing about how much she liked Jo, it seemed a bad plan to open that door right now.

So when are we meeting tomorrow? Charlie texted Jo.

Want to catch coffee tomorrow before game? I want to see if the Unicorn thing is as bad as everyone says. Jo responded.

It’s a date. Charlie had responded without thinking.

Hope that means you’re paying ;) Jo had texted back.

Charlie had to lay on the bed and remember how to breathe.

Charlie totally hadn’t driven herself crazy with what to wear to meet Jo for the first time. She wasn’t sure if it was a date-date or just a ‘gals being pals’ event. That would have been insane to hyper stress about what to wear. She had stuffed her character clothes in her bag and showed up fifteen minutes early to the coffee shop and tried to calm her breathing.

When Jo walked in with a t-shirt of Captain America’s shield colored in the bisexual flag Charlie was sure she’d died and gone to heaven.

“Cute shirt.” Charlie has said waving Jo over.

“thanks. I only save it for first dates with cute girls.” Jo had grinned.
