Being Alex's little sister meant being off limits to the boys. And although usually it was Luke who broke the rules the most, this time it was Reggie who went against the one imposed by the drummer. The rehearsal had ended several hours ago. Reluctantly, Luke had picked up his bike and headed home. Things had seemed calmer at the Patterson's for the past few days and the guitarist was even starting to think his mother would accept some common ground.
There was only Bobby, Reggie, your brother, and you. Alex being the one to bring Reggie home, it was normal that you were the last to be around. It even happened that the bassist even spent the night at one or other of his comrades' place. The constant tension at the Peters' house was becoming so overwhelming that the group had hosted the boy for the night more than once.
“Ugh, we're out of soda…” you complained.
Bobby looked at the mess of empty cans on the table and sighed. It was always like that after every rehearsal: the absolute mess of pizza boxes and soda cans. And even if they weren't allowed to, sometimes the boys even brought back a beer or two, just to relax.
"I'll go get a trash bag and some new drinks. Alex, some help?"
"Why me?" protested your older brother
"Because you’re my mom's favorite."
Reggie turned his head offended at that line as you chuckled. Alex was always the favorite of all mothers in the world. He always behaved well in the presence of adults, was polite, spoke only when allowed to do so. Mercer education was there for a few things. Bobby hadn't offered you to go with him to get rid of the embarrassment of his parents, telling you how cute you were and that you would make such a beautiful couple with their son. Being the only girl around the boys had its downsides and that was one of them. Even Emily Patterson once confessed to Luke that she hoped to see you being Luke's girlfriend, believing that you would calm his fiery temper.
When Bobby and your brother got out of the garage, the brunette took one last look at the door before hopping onto the couch you were on, making you laugh. Because in truth, your heart was already taken by the wacky bassist of Sunset Curve. A secret that you have been keeping for several weeks now.
"I thought they would never leave." he said kissing you all over your face.
You cooed in the action rolling your eyes to laugh at him. Reggie was a thoughtless love ball and you weren't going to complain about that closeness.
"It was a pretty good rehearsal" you said with a hint of amusement in your voice.
Reggie paused, fixing his eyes straight into yours, his adorable disgruntled puppy expression.
"No more talks, more kisses! I missed you"
"But I was on this couch the whole day"
"I said, more kisses"
He got straight on your lips, your laughter choking off through the kiss. Kissing Reggie was truly one of your favorite things. His lips were incredibly soft, the bassist was always gentle with you, even when you got a little more passionate in your kissing. He had always been respectful. Your boyfriend's hands had rested on your waist but his right hand came to rest on your cheek to deepen the kiss. Time seemed to stand still and your heart swelled with a feeling of warmth.
"Reggie, what the fuck are you doin'?"
Reggie pulled away so quickly he bit your lip in the action. His face had turned pale at the hearing of that voice he knew too well: Alex.
"Eating pizza" the bass player responded from tact to tact as he grabbed the last slice that was on the box on the coffee table. As if the previous action had been erased from the drummer's memory.
"On my sister's lips?" Alex asked sarcastically
Although he was boiling inside, Alex couldn't bring himself to get angry. Especially when he saw your gaze, almost begging him not to say anything. It was only when he heard you say those last words that he resolved to accept this "thing" he had interrupted.
"Alex, he treats me well ..."
"He's better off to or I'll break his bass over his head." The blond said.
Reggie choked on his slice of pizza and nodded in response. Alex was not a violent boy, but he was very protective of you. Even if the bass player knew his friend will not punch him, he was pretty massive and Reggie didn't want to find how Alex could be when he was angry.
"Please, just don't make...weird couples’ things in front of me" complained the drummer.
Bobby was beside the drummer, smirking. He would never have bet on Reggie being able to date Alex's sister despite his friend's restriction and he could tell he was rather impressed.
"And don't destroy my sofa”
"Oh, Bobby you better run before I’ll slap you."
"You won’t, Mercer, you’re a puppy"
To prove him wrong, Alex punched the rhythm guitarist on the back of the head, something he had been doing since he was hanging out with Luke and the boys. You had laughed at Bobby's little cry of pain. Reggie had his arm wrapped around your shoulders, you laughed at him and wiped the trace of tomato sauce off his cheek. Alex complained about this gesture, you offered him your middle finger.
Things looked very normal in Sunset Curve's garage and you couldn't be more than happy to see your brother come to terms with your relationship with Reggie so easily.
