Asia Kate Dillon as Lucifer in The Mysteries
#obviously including some of the fade in/out from prior/subsequent shots is a somewhat inelegant aesthetic effect#but i am simply prioritizing The Most Visual Info About Them / including maximum relevant frames lol#also capitalizing everything in the caption b/c i especially don't wanna deal with identical lowercase l and uppercase i#not that i don't think it could be parsed easily enough but i just want it more at a glance. with the warranted drama of a right angle.#none of these shots are specifically identified as them but i did a good amount of detective work here#plus naturally their neck tattoo is a giveaway. likewise arm tattoos ascertain their identity for other shots imo. and it looking like them#and the context of [that's probably lucifer & adam when such a scene is known to exist / there's a similar pic ft their profile]#so that i feel confident enough to go ''yeah that's the back of their head''#gif three has the least certain identifiers lol but looks like them; similar hair to other pics of lucifer; looks like they have the same#costume top as in gif one (with an extra layer); they're with/among the chorus of angels so between [lucifer is a prefallen angel] and why#that angel chorus would be standing around covering their ears while a member says some things theatrically...it's probably lucifer#asia kate dillon#the mysteries#lucifer mysteries#lucifer the mysteries#to potential differentiate from their other lucifer portrayal lmao#so anyways obviously i'm in love with lucifer (the mysteries) who can release that incredibly extensive 6 hr script

— enhypen reaction to hearing you sing for the first time !
genre: fluff + established relationship for heeseung and sunoo
pairings: idol!enhypen x gn!reader
note: requested by anon ♡
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
★ heeseung
you got into an argument, a dumb one actually
but you both being the stubborn people you are, you decided to give each other the silent treatment
you couldn’t handle it much longer
you just wanted to say sorry and cuddle with him
but then again - you didn’t wanna deflate your ego
so directly speaking to him was a no-no
so you sat there in his bed, grabbing his guitar and started strumming it
until you started playing and singing get you by daniel caesar
heeseung must’ve heard you as he slowly walked towards his room, pressing his ear on the door
he didn’t know you could play the guitar and sing
pls he had massive heart eyes
was convinced he fell in love with you all over again
he completely forgot the argument ever happened and just barged in
“you’re the love of my life.”
you stopped playing and singing and just went *instert shocked pikachu face*
“can you sing for me? please?” and you just shake your head no
pouts and gives you puppy eyes
you give in and kiss his cheek “fine, but only if you do it with me”
he nods and cuddles you as you both sing each other to sleep
★ jay
you were a new trainee at belift and he was at the studio, preparing a new song with jake and a producer
the producer had called you in to record a demo for one of the hybe groups
he wasn’t that fazed when you entered the room - the both of you having a mask and bucket hat on
as you entered the recording booth, you removed your mask and hat
you listen to the instrumental and re-read the lyrics once again as you asked the producer if you could record the song without instrumental first
the producer agreed and started recording
you got straight into the chorus, surprising jay
that specific part was in a very high key and he was shocked at how effortlessly you sang it at the first try
the recording went pretty well
but the way jay kept on looking back and forth between the lyrics he was writing and you in the booth didn’t go unnoticed by jake
you were done and had to return to practice as you bowed to the boys and producer - leaving the room
jake nudges jay, signalling him to go follow you and at least say something
jay took the hint and left the studio
“y/n!” he called out and you turned around
“your voice is beautiful. would you want to record with me- i mean enhypen some time?”
★ jake
you were part of a girl band
you played the bass and was also the lead singer
your company - a fairly small one - was just recently bought by bang pd so you were under hybe labels
your group used to perform for different high school festivals and you just happened to have performed at sunoo’s
after hearing the news that you were under hybe too, sunoo begged his members to come with him see your band at the company
“sunoo they’re there to practice, not to do free concerts” - jungwon
jake chuckled and he was the only one who agreed to come with sunoo
“hyung did you know their lead singer is the same age as you” sunoo said wiggling his brows as they both made their way to your practice room
jake just shook his head at his younger member
hearing a familiar melody, sunoo dragged the older member to what he was sure was your practice room
“sunoo you can’t just barge i-“
was he seeing an angel?????
“sunoo i thought they did rock”
“yeah but they have bsides in other genres too yknow”
you were singing your solo song twilight
jake nodded and watched you in awe, admiring how into the song you were
your members weren’t there and it may seem lonely but your voice echoing throughout the room made the atmosphere feel heavenly
once the song was over, sunoo cheered and clapped his hands as you grew shy, finally acknowledging their presence
the two boys introduced themselves to you and you did the same to them
you chuckled as you saw jake fumble on his words
“i know who you guys are, i watched your very good cover. you should try doing rock sometime, it seriously fits you guys!” you complimented them
as they grew shy, you couldn’t help but notice jake’s unique smile and how he plays with his hands when he’s nervous
“do you wanna grab lunch with us?”
“is the jake sim asking me out?”
“is the y/n l/n rejecting me?”
you both laughed as sunoo playfully rolled his eyes and you went to go get lunch with the two
★ sunghoon
you were at karaoke with the guys
all of them were having the time of their lives, doing song after song without taking breaks
jay and riki were singing new face and you were busting your lungs out watching them get tired of the never-ending song
remember when yoongi went “when does this song end” when bts was singing new face during that one run episode? yeah that’s them
when the song finally finished, jungwon noticed how you have been laughing and just sitting there the whole time
so he took the mic and pointed at you
that little shit
sunoo had already queued asap by stayc for him to sing, but jungwon insisted that you sing it since you should at least sing one song
“but that’s my song!” - sunoo
“sunoo you can do the choreo while y/n sings” - jungwon
sunoo nods, also wanting to hear you sing
(ps he wanted to do the choreo lol)
you refused and kept shaking your head until your crush, sunghoon, placed his hand on your shoulder, making your heart do backflips
“cmonnnn y/n, please?” he pouted at you
finally giving in, you stand up and grab the mic from jungwon
starting the song, your body was stiff
but once you reached the chorus, you and sunoo were doing the choreo while you sang with a big smile on your face
not you being a whole kpop idol whoop
sunghoon couldn’t help but look at you and smile to himself and blush - you looked so cute and your voice was so addicting
you even lipsynced the “i think you’re really cool” part (the one before the chorus) while winking at him
the song really brought out your inner confidence as you made sunghoon a flustered mess
once you were all finished and went home, riki showed you a video he took of sunghoon when you were singing
“dude i swear he’s super into you! look at him smiling ear-to-ear!!! he looks like he just saw an angel”
“oh shut up riki”
you mentally thanked jungwon for setting you up like that
★ sunoo
“can you sing me to sleep please?” you asked sunoo asked with puppy eyes
he poked your cheeks, nodding
“you’re so cute. of course i’ll sing you to sleep baby”
getting in bed with him, he started playing with your hair and caressing your shoulder
he softly sang love is not over by bts
what took him by surprise was that you suddenly joined in, harmonizing with him
he knew you liked music but wasn’t aware that you had such an amazing voice
he held your hand as you both finished singing the song, giggling
“baby you have the sweetest voice ever, you should sing more often” he playfully pouted
you softly laughed as you moved his bangs out frame, kissing his forehead
“i’ll only sing for you darling, i don’t want others to fall for me”
he playfully hit you as you laughed at your own joke
facing you, he looked into your eyes
“i love you so much.”
you blushed at his words
“i love you even more sunoo.”
★ jungwon
your group and enhypen were appearing on weekly idol together
your members kept on teasing you because you had previously revealed that jungwon was your ideal type on knowing bros
what you said garnered a lot of attention from knetz and engenes, some negative but most of them positive
“they would make an adorable couple”
“i wanna see them sing together”
“their visuals together would shake the whole country”
you were glad engenes didn’t hate your guys for being open about your admiration towards the boy
you being nervous was an understatement - this was your first time seeing jungwon in real life
and you expected the hosts to bring up what you said about him so you were prepared to face him directly
pls this sounds like ur about to have a boxing match w him
anyways filming started out okay until the hosts (ofc) brought up what you said
a few laughs here and there but suddenly they had an idea
“so you’re the main vocal, correct?”
you nodded at one of the hosts
“that’s perfect because it’s time for our karaoke session!”
you ended up getting paired up with jungwon to sing just one day by bts
you made eye contact the whole time and it didn’t take a genius to see the instant chemistry
your voices went so well with each other that even you and his members were shocked at how heavenly you both sounded together
you were both smiling and you could just melt right then and there
once you were done, you covered your face with your hands as you were a blushing mess
your members and enhypen clapped and one of the hosts went “you guys should sing an ost together”
you both got super shy and the rest of filming went well
a month passed and the episode aired
engenes and your fans went insane on sns and knetz were demanding a collab
it wasn’t anything serious until your ceo brought you in in a meeting with hybe executives and he popped up the question
“how would you like to feature in enhypen’s newest album?”
★ riki
your classmates were cleaning the classroom as it was the last week of the whole school year
you were sweeping the floor, humming the song that was silently playing in the background as the room was filled with chatter
riki was removing the decorations on the walls, listening to your soft hums
the songs that were being played were fairly calm
until a more energetic song suddenly played
your classmates suddenly became all energetic when i can’t stop me by twice started playing
you smiled, singing along
you were just playing around but you didn’t realize that you just hit nayeon’s high notes
“woah! y/n??? you’re really good”
you saw that riki was listening the whole time (and so was the rest of the class lol) and you got shy
you shook your head and stopped singing
“no keep going!” - a classmate
you gave in and went on with the song and riki gave you a “you’re so awesome” look
once the song was over, your classmates started playing even more hype song
a guy went “lets do karaoke!”
a girl chimed in “y/n has to go first!”
riki softly laughed and nudged you to go sing
you used the broom in your hand as a fake mic and mic stand as you sang blue hour by txt
he filmed you, zooming in on your smiling face
he was sure going to cherish that video forever

rebel girl (vic de angelis x fem!singer!reader)
Tumblr media
𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐏𝐈𝐑𝐄𝐃 𝐁𝐘 REBEL GIRL  𝐁𝐘 BIKINI KILL
(listen while reading for best experience)
𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐫𝐞: fluff with a sprinkle of angst for .0000002 seconds
𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲: a kiss during a shared performance turns into something more.
𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐬: 2.3k
𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬: cursing, kissing, drinking, my attempts at writing roman dialect and italian, and i believe that’s it.
𝐚/𝐧: ok so i know not a whole lot abt måneskin so if anything abt this in terms of the band or how they perform is inaccurate forgive me! but i think vic is hot and this song makes me think of her LOL. thanks for reading, and enjoy the fic!! <3
(all translations will be linked at the end of the fic)
♀~♀~♀
The cheers of the crowd were deafening, but it seemed the beating of her own heart was even louder. Lights flashed a plethora of neon colors, and those on the stage looked liked silhouettes moving about freely.
Ethan nodded at Thomas, quickly bringing down his stick to the tightly spread plastic.
Thomas bobbed his head, starting to play the opening riff.
Select members of those in attendance began to cheer, just the opening notes being enough to give away what was about to be performed.
“For our last song tonight, we’d like to bring out someone you all know and love.” Damiano spoke into his mic, wrapping an arm around Vic’s neck and allowing her to lean down into the microphone in his hand.
“She’s someone that everyone, including myself, heavily admire as an icon of the generation and a true Riot Grrrl.”

Her eyes closed, a deep breath inhaled and exhaled through her painted mouth. She jumped up and down in her heeled boots, face pointed towards the rickety ceiling of the venue as she did so. She ran a ring adorned hand over her earpieces and made a funny face, making sure they were adjusted to her liking.
A stagehand appeared to her right, handing her a microphone and wishing her good luck. She smiled, responding with a quick “thanks” and a smile.
Victoria looked over from her place on the stage with Damiano, a devilish glint in her eye.
“Here for one night only, London let us introduce” he yelled, leaning down to Vic’s level once more, allowing them to both speak at once, “Y/n Y/l/n!”
A roar erupted from everyone in the building as the aforementioned strutted on stage, lifting the mic to her lips.
“That girl thinks she’s the queen of the neighborhood, she’s got the hottest trike in town.” She started, finding her mark in the center of the stage.
“That girl, she holds her head up so high, I think I wanna be her best friend yeah.” Damiano’s raspy voice let out next, both of their voices mixing together like honey as they started the chorus.
“Rebel girl, rebel girl, rebel girl you are the queen of my world.
Rebel girl, rebel girl.”
“I think I wanna take you home” Y/n began, Damiano then taking over.
“I wanna try all your clothes.” He finished, both him and Y/n groaning in unison to the song.
Vic would be lying if she said she didn’t have to clear both her throat, and her mind. Thomas’ fingers worked skillfully and quickly on the neck of his guitar on the small transitional solo, his focus staying on the cool steel.
Damiano held up his tattooed hand, making a talking motion as he sang and rolled his eyes, “When she talks, I hear the revolution.”
Y/n came up behind Vic, one hand running across her hip, the other on her own as she chose to lean into Vic’s mic over her shoulder, “In her hips, there’s revolutions.”
The lead singer then strutted across the stage back to Ethan, propping a leg up on the base of his kit, and then walking back singing, “When she walks, the revolution’s coming.”
Knowing what line was coming up next, the bassist held her breath, and looked down. It was short lived, though, as Y/n picked up her chin with her pointer finger, forcing her to look her in the eyes. She moved his slowly to Victoria, their lips nearly brushing, her touch feather light.
“In…her…kiss…” she slowly sang, dragging it out longer than in the original song and than in rehearsal. She quickly turned her head, falling to her knees with one side to Vic and one to the audience, her hair cascading over her features.
“I taste the revolution!”
She smiled at Vic as she pushed herself up, a goofy grin plastered onto her face as she allowed Damiano to take the chorus. Victoria replied with only a small smirk, her dark eyeshadow glittering under the colorful lights, making her look like some kind of gothic angel, or celestial being.
Resuming singing, Y/n walked back to the front of the stage, her and Damiano switching every verse. She sat down on the edge, letting her legs dangle over the high surface, feeling fingertips barely touch her unclothed thigh.
“That girl thinks she’s the queen of the neighborhood.”
“I got news for you,”
They both pointed their mics into the audience as the screen behind them flashed “she is!” Allowing the crowd, as well as Thomas, Vic, and Ethan to all scream the two words loudly and in sync.
“I know she is,” her and Dami both sang, as he wrapped an arm around Vic’s neck,
“My best friend yeah”
The chorus continued for a final time, Victoria stomping her heavy platforms on the wooden stage, biting her lip as she performed.
Y/n made her way over to Thomas’ side, jumping to his left and swaying her hair, a knowing smile appearing on his face upon seeing Victoria’s gaze falling upon her movements.
Victoria made rounds to Ethan and then to Thomas, passing Y/n and lightly tapping her hip with her own.
Y/n skipped over to Damiano as he did to her, the pair meeting in the middle briefly for the “love you like a sister, always.”
Victoria returned to her spot from the start, and Damiano found his way to Thomas. Y/n continued on towards the ethereal bassist. The both of them were simultaneously singing to the aforementioned in harmony, nearing the end of the song.
“Soul sister, rebel girl,
Come and be my best friend,
Really, rebel girl.”
Y/n dragged a hand across Vic’s chiseled cheekbone, and in that moment Victoria had taken on the title of a muse for the woman standing in front of her.
“I really like you” she sang to her, lowering her mic as they looked into each other’s eyes, her chest heaving. It was like the music had been reduced down to a slight buzzing, and the thousands of peering eyes meant nothing. They were untouchable.
Y/n resumed for the last line, never breaking her eye contact.
“Be my rebel girl.”
It seemed like a question, a proposal of sorts from one to another, as Y/n’s hand dropped once more.
Victoria quirked a brow as if to ask “are we really doing this?” To which Y/n muttered “fuck it” with a laugh.
Victoria’s hands found either side of Y/n’s face, her calloused fingers rough, yet gentle. Y/n’s own hands found one lazily draped over waist, the other over her shoulder to pull her close.
And in what probably the entirety of the building could have guessed would happen (maybe just not on stage, in that exact moment) they closed the gap between themselves, their lips connecting in a sweet kiss.
Chants and yells of encouragement were whooped by the band and crowd alike, as Damiano raised the mic and the final notes played.
“Y/n Y/l/n everybody!”
They pulled apart, sweaty foreheads against each other’s sides as they turned towards everyone, waving. They were quickly joined by the rest of the group, and Y/n stepped away, leaning into the microphone still hooked on the stand in the center of the stage.
“Let’s hear a huge round of applause for the wonderfully mad Måneskin!” She shouted, the roar of the crowd even louder. She raised her hands in the air, then moving one to her ear, gesturing for them to be louder. They complied, and Y/n took out her earpiece for a moment, soaking in what the band had created.
Vic shouted to Y/n over the noise, waving her over.
“Come on, bow with us!”
Y/n shook her head, not wanting to intrude any further to which Thomas reached out an arm, pulling her over. A bright smile covered her face as Vic reached out, wrapping an arm around her waist only for a second.
Hands joined, they all leaned forward in a dramatic bow, coming back up and waving.
All in sync, they all yelled “thank you, London!”
They looked around for a small period of time afterwards, still having a hard time believing that this was their new reality.
Looking to her right, and seeing Y/n doing the same, Vic decided that Y/n was a specific part of said “new reality” she didn’t quite want to let go of.
So after saying one more goodbye and exiting the stage, the bassist remained silent. It slightly worried Y/n, who had noticed the girl’s lack of communication while she had been thanking the rest of the band members for allowing her to share the stage with them.
“Is Victoria alright?” She asked Damiano, to which he only chuckled before replying.
“She’s fine, trust me. Give her a little bit of time and she will be back to normal.”
Y/n just gave him a tight lipped smile, not completely convinced.
Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed as Victoria slipped into her dressing room, locking the door.
The rest of the group, already having had a few drinks, was out the door, waiting on a cab.
“Y/n? You and Vic coming?” Ethan questioned.
She nodded, though she was unsure if that was the case, doing her best to cast a reassuring smile in his direction.
Once she made sure they were gone, she knocked twice on the heavy door. Before she could even announce it was her, Vic’s voice rang out.
“Vattene, Damiano!”
“Victoria?” Y/n’s tone floated through the door to the other side, and Victoria face palmed and silently cursed herself. She quickly got up and unlocked the door, regretting her harsh tone.
“Y/n, hi.”
“Hi.” She responded, slight uneasiness about her. Victoria picked up on this immediately, her brows furrowing and her eyes softening.
“Are you alright, Y/n?”
The other girl scoffed and looked at her feet. Scared to break any boundaries now that they weren’t on stage, Victoria cautiously lifted a hand towards her chin, softly picking it up like Y/n had before.
Her voice sounded wavy as she spoke, her jaw slightly hanging slack.
“Actually, I came here to ask the same thing.”
Victoria tilted her head like a confused puppy, leaning up against the doorframe.
“Why? What happened?”
Struggling to find the right thing to say, Y/n began to trip over her words.
“Well, I just, you know, on stage and everything- we were super, y’a know, close and everything and I didn’t wanna, I don’t know. Make you uncomfortable or overstep any boundaries or anything, and if it was just a kiss I didn’t wanna overthink it or read into but, I mean, I really liked it but you seemed to go quiet so-“
Victoria cut off her painful rambling with another kiss, taking firm hold of her arms and moving her inside with her and closing the door with her foot.
“Wow.” Y/n said when they finally pulled apart, her eyes as wide as dinner plates and her pupils the size of the moon.
“Yes, wow.” Vic chuckled, moving a piece of Y/n’s stray hair behind her ear.
“You’re very different when you’re on stage, Y/n. You know that?” She asked, admiring how the fluorescent lights above illuminated Y/n’s features in the most wonderful way.
Victoria had decided she liked her most like this. Vulnerable, sweaty, and with the biggest heart eyes she’d ever seen.
“That’s what I was afraid of.” She laughed.
“No.” Vic frowned, taking her hands. “It’s not a bad thing. Not at all.” She brought her over to the velvet sofa in the corner of the room. “It’s admirable.”
“How?” She asked with a small smile.
“Easy. Because even though your stage persona is lovely,” she laughed, “I think I like this Y/n even better. She seems like she’s kind, and has a big heart with lots of love to give.”
Stunned, the other girl just smiled like an idiot, leaning forward and pecking Vic’s lips.
“Well, what about you?”
“What about me?” The bassist replied, enjoying the banter forming between the pair.
“Why’d you go all radio silent? I’d never heard of Victoria De Angelis from EuroVision winning band Måneskin to do such a thing.” She exclaimed in what was the worst accent Victoria had heard in her life.
(Though, it was endearing, she’d admit.)
“Truly? I was thinking about how to ask you out. If you even wanted me to ask you out, all of that.”
Y/n’s eyes somehow got even bigger, and she laughed, tucking her legs beneath her.
“How is that even a question?” She exclaimed.
“Like I said, you are different on stage from off it. I didn’t know if it was just a front, a performance.”
This time it was Y/n’s turn to roll her eyes and lean in, encapsulating Victoria’s lips with her own.
“It wasn’t just a show, I’d love to go out with you, Vic.”
They both giggled like school girls hidden under the bleachers, leaning in for another kiss. It was hot and heavy, yet slow and sweet. It was everything either girl had hoped for.
And thanks to a certain Italian doofus, or 4, it would be momentarily put on pause. Mid-make out four loud knocks startled the girls, causing the two do them to pull away.
“Victoria! Daje! Perché non rispondi al telefono, eh? Stiamo aspettando- oh. This makes sense.“ Damiano burst through the door, Ethan and Thomas stood behind him with not-so-surprised looks painted on their faces.
“Realmente? Realmente, Damiano?” She scoffed. “Stai manzo!”
“Sorry, guys. Enjoy yourselves.” He turned over his shoulder to the rest, slowly shutting the door.
“Sicuro di dire che non verranno con noi.” He snickered, as did the others.
“Eccallà!” Ethan remarked, to which, not that Vic and Y/n knew, Thomas shoved him to the side.
Victoria sighed, returning to face Y/n.
“So. Where were we?”

“We’ll dance again,” Harry Styles coos, the Los Angeles sunshine peeking through his pandemic-shaggy hair just so. The singer, songwriter and actor — beloved and critically acclaimed thanks to his life-affirming year-old album, “Fine Line” — is lamenting that his Variety Hitmaker of the Year cover conversation has to be conducted over Zoom rather than in person. Even via videoconference, the Brit is effortlessly charming, as anyone who’s come within earshot of him would attest, but it quickly becomes clear that beneath that genial smile is a well-honed media strategy.
To wit: In an interview that appears a few days later announcing his investment in a new arena in his native Manchester (more on that in a bit), he repeats the refrain — “There will be a time we dance again”— referencing a much-needed return to live music and the promise of some 4,000 jobs for residents.
None of which is to suggest that Styles, 26, phones it in for interviews. Quite the opposite: He does very few, conceivably to give more of himself and not cheapen what is out there and also to use the publicity opportunity to indulge his other interests, like fashion. (Last month Styles became the first male to grace the cover of Vogue solo.) Still, it stings a little that a waltz with the former One Direction member may not come to pass on this album cycle — curse you, coronavirus.
Styles’ isolation has coincided with his maturation as an artist, a thespian and a person. With “Fine Line,” he’s proved himself a skilled lyricist with a tremendous ear for harmony and melody. In preparing for his role in Olivia Wilde’s period thriller “Don’t Worry Darling,” which is shooting outside Palm Springs, he found an outlet for expression in interpreting words on a page. And for the first time, he’s using his megaphone to speak out about social justice — inspired by the outpouring of support for Black people around the world following the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police in May.
Styles has spent much of the past nine months at home in London, where life has slowed considerably. The time has allowed him to ponder such heady issues as his purpose on the earth. “It’s been a pause that I don’t know if I would have otherwise taken,” says Styles. “I think it’s been pretty good for me to have a kind of stop, to look and think about what it actually means to be an artist, what it means to do what we do and why we do it. I lean into moments like this — moments of uncertainty.”
In truth, while Styles has largely been keeping a low profile — his Love On Tour, due to kick off on April 15, was postponed in late March and is now scheduled to launch in February 2021 (whether it actually will remains to be seen) — his music has not. This is especially true in the U.S., where he’s notched two hit singles, “Adore You,” the second-most-played song at radio in 2020, and “Watermelon Sugar” (No. 22 on Variety’s year-end Hitmakers chart), with a third, “Golden,” already cresting the top 20 on the pop format. The massive cross-platform success of these songs means Styles has finally and decisively broken into the American market, maneuvering its web of gatekeepers to accumulate 6.2 million consumption units and rising.
Why do these particular songs resonate in 2020? Styles doesn’t have the faintest idea. While he acknowledges a “nursery rhyme” feel to “Watermelon Sugar” with its earwormy loop of a chorus, that’s about as much insight as he can offer. His longtime collaborator and friend Tom Hull, also known as the producer Kid Harpoon, offers this take: “There’s a lot of amazing things about that song, but what really stands out is the lyric. It’s not trying to hide or be clever. The simplicity of watermelon … there’s such a joy in it, [which] is a massive part of that song’s success.” Also, his kids love it. “I’ve never had a song connect with children in this way,” says Hull, whose credits include tunes by Shawn Mendes, Florence and the Machine and Calvin Harris. “I get sent videos all the time from friends of their kids singing. I have a 3-year-old and an 8-year-old, and they listen to it.”
Styles is quick to note that he doesn’t chase pop appeal when crafting songs. In fact, the times when he pondered or approved a purposeful tweak, like on his self-titled 2017 debut, still gnaw at him. “I love that album so much because it represents such a time in my life, but when I listen to it — sonically and lyrically, especially — I can hear places where I was playing it safe,” he says. “I was scared to get it wrong.”

synopsis → “oh, i’m mark. mark lee.” he gives her a lop-sided grin, reminding you of a high school boy. the kind you would have a crush on.
word count → 3k
a/n → instead of admitting to the fact that this has been in my drafts since october what if i just said i was watching superm interviews and got inspired.. would anyone believe that??? anyway superm on the ellen show was a fever dream lol
your leg bounces nervously as your makeup artist touches up your look and you stare at the tv screen in anticipation. you were finally making your television debut. you knew you were blessed for the wonderful opportunity, especially for how new you were to the music industry.
you had started like nearly every other artist; posting covers on youtube. these were well received and gained a good amount of views and likes but your career really took off when you began creating original content. every time you would release a single, it would make it on the trending page thanks to your growing fanbase and exposure to the general public, who seemed to like you. soon enough, requests to interview you whether it be on radio, tv, or magazines were high and, thanks to your managers, you found yourself in los angeles, backstage in a studio, waiting for the ellen degeneres to introduce you to her live audience and thousands of viewers at home.
“don’t move so much, miss l/n,” the woman trying to apply your highlighter comments. “you’re smudging your makeup.”
you force yourself to sit still as you apologize. “sorry. pre-show jitters.”
the woman smiles, emphatically. “i understand, sweetheart. i would be nervous too.”
you’re quiet for a moment, debating if you should continue conversing with her. “can i be honest?”
she hums as she dabs a beauty blender into your cheek. “go ahead.”
“i am so nervous that i’ll mess up or say something stupid. the only thing close to an interview i’ve ever done was a q&a on my youtube channel. and at least i could edit stuff out then.” you huff. “if i make some kind of mistake on my tv debut, my career will be over before it even started.”
“well, think of it this way,” she says. “you went from a moderately popular youtube channel to the ellen show. that doesn’t happen for no reason. there are people out there who really admire you.”
you chuckle in disbelief. “it’s crazy to think about people actually wanting to see me. i still can't believe it.”
she giggles, softly. “they know there's something worth seeing.” at seeing your small smile, almost as if you were barely realizing your own star status, she laughs. “you seriously gotta wake up, girl. you’re famous!”
you smile at her, finding humor in her words. “thanks for the wake up call.”
you both direct your attention to the tv placed backstage that broadcasted what was happening on stage. you listen in to ellen’s monologue as she tells jokes and addresses current topics. before long, there’s a knock on the doorframe. you half expect a staff member to let you know that you’ll be on soon but instead you hear a quiet, “hello?”
you and your makeup artist both turn to the boy standing in the doorway. he's wearing a black jacket paired with dark, ripped jeans held up by a belt. he goes to bow, then remembers that korean etiquette does not apply and decides to wave as a greeting instead. you reciprocate the gesture. he stands with only one foot inside the room, almost as if he’s too polite to enter without being given the okay.
“did they send you to get your makeup done?” the woman who had done yours says.
he nods. “they said something about concealer and bb cream, i think?”
she smiles. “yeah, it’s basic stuff. come on in. what’s your name, dear?”
“oh, i’m mark. mark lee.” he gives her a lop-sided grin, reminding you of a high school boy. the kind you would have a crush on.
“well, mark lee, i’m lily. i’ll be doing your makeup, making sure you look pretty for the cameras.” she motions to you. “i'm just about done here so i’ll be right with you.”
“okay, thank you.” he shuffles in, his eyes glued to you and you hold his stare. he nods, a wordless greeting as he settles in next to you. in return, you throw up a peace sign and he smiles at your casual behavior.
“you know what? somebody used all the setting spray. i’ll be right back, i’m just going to steal some from my co-workers.” with that, lily darts out of the room.
it’s pure silence between the two of you until you spark conversation. “i didn't get to introduce myself but i'm y/n.”
“i know,” he responds, quickly. “i'm kind of a fan, actually. i mean, it’s practically impossible to not be. you’re all over the place. especially with the new single you dropped... which is a bop, by the way.”
you smile at his simply-worded praise. it was a nice switch up from the professional reviews you received from critics. “that’s so cute. i’m honored.” you miss the way mark’s ears turn slightly pink at your words. “but enough about me, what do you do, mark?”
“oh, me? i’m in the k-pop scene.”
you hum. “that’s a good genre to be in. which group?”
“right now i’m promoting with superm, it’s kind of like a side project. but originally, i’m in a band called nct.”
you lean forward at hearing the familiar name. “nct? as in, nct 127?”
mark’s eyes light up. “yeah! you know us?”
you nod, enthusiastically. “oh my god, yes! you collabed with ava, right?”
“we sure did. are you guys close?”
“i help her write lyrics sometimes.” you lower your voice down to a whisper for dramatic effect. “i wrote the chorus to ‘sweet but psycho’.”
the way mark’s jaw drops is almost comedic. “no way! that song got her famous, dude!” his lips curve into a playful smirk. “just because of that i’m gonna have to get you in the studio.”
you return the mischievous look. “is that a promise?”
“i’m back!” lily announces, giving mark no time to respond. she gives no warning as she spritzs you with the bottle she had gone to retrieve.
you cough, choking on the mist. “no heads up?”
“sorry, dear. you’re on in two minutes, no time to waste.”
you feel a chill go up your spine. it was finally time.
mark nudges your arm. “you okay?”
“a little nervous.” that proves to be the biggest understatement of all time because in reality your heart is doing somersaults.
“hey.” you stare at him, his brown eyes boring into you. “you’ll be fine. there’s nothing to worry about. you got this!”
you smile at his words of encouragement. he cared about you and you find that your heart is pounding for an entirely different reason now.
“i'll be here to cheer you on while you’re out there and i’ll be back when you’re done to tell you how amazing you did, okay?”
you nod.
“now get out there!”
“well, we have a great show for y’all today,” ellen says, clasping her hands together, having just finished her monologue. “i mean, it’s always great but the exciting thing is we have two musical guests today.”
the audience that cheered wildly is shown on screen. you almost forget about the knot in your stomach when you see some people in the crowd wearing shirts with the cover art and quoted lyrics of your last single.
“i see you guys are ready so, without further ado... let’s get started. our first guest is a soloist who has made quite a big name for herself in such a short period of time. she currently has three singles on the billboard charts, her most recent music video is number one trending on youtube, and she has a new ep coming out soon. here for her television debut, please welcome y/n l/n.”
you walk out from behind the stage, a huge smile on your face. the crowd screams and you wave to them until your hands become too occupied hugging the hostess who greets you with open arms and a proud smile. once the hype dies down and your entrance music fades out, you take a seat, opposite of ellen.
“how have you been y/n?”
“amazing,” you respond, letting your hands fall neatly in your lap.
“and why is that?”
you sigh, wistfully. “everything has been going so well for me lately. i mean, i feel like all these doors are opening up for me all of a sudden. i think i finally made it.”
“you’re just barely realizing that?” ellen exclaims.
you laugh, along with the audience. “kind of, yeah. it just all happened so fast.”
“is there an experience that comes to mind where you finally realized how famous you are?”
you try to think for a few moments before your eyes light up. “okay so, i was at a mcdonald’s like, last month and i went through the drive thru and ordered some nuggets and fries. so, i pull up to the window to pay and it’s around 2 a.m. so the cashier guy is super out of it, like he’s not even paying attention to me. finally, he goes to grab my card and he gets a good look at me and just freezes. like, full on shuts down. so i ask him if he’s okay and he nods so i try to hand him my card again but he goes, ‘no, you’re famous, you don’t have to pay’. and in that moment i just knew.”
“hold on, pause,” ellen announces, dramatically. “you’re telling me that you have been nominated as artist of the year, gained over ten million followers on social media and made your national television debut but the thing that really made you say ‘wow, i’m famous’ was a couple of chicken nuggets?”
“ellen, c’mon,” you begin, seriously. “it was a twenty piece.”
“oh, well, that changes everything,” she says, playing along with you, as the audience erupts into laughter.
the rest of the interview goes smoothly, running on jokes and sarcastic energy. you discuss your young age (thus resulting in some of your baby pictures finally being revealed to the world), millennial culture (the crowd went wild when you explained terms such as netflix and chill to ellen who claimed she didn’t understand yet her sly smirk said otherwise) and your upcoming ep (that you would be giving a sneak peek of later on in the show).
you continue chatting once the commercial break is announced and ellen showers you with praises, commenting how young talent never failed to amaze her, although it did make her feel old. you get to thank the hostess and tell her how much you appreciated her sweet words and the opportunity she had given you before the crew is dragging you backstage so you can prep for your upcoming performance.
you’re greeted by a “that was awesome!” and a high five one you get backstage.
you flash mark a full smile. “couldn’t have done it without my hype man.”
just then lily walks in to touch up your makeup.
“and my hype woman!”
she just rolls her eyes and chuckles as she reapplies gloss to your lips.
“seriously though, y/n. why did you have to be so perfect? the bar is all the way up here now.” to emphasize his point, mark raises his arm as high as it will go.
“hey, i only tried hard because you’re up next. you’re a hard act to beat, mark lee. i mean, you’re charismatic, charming, witty; basically every talk show host’s dream.”
he scoffs yet you see how he avoids your gaze, your compliments obviously flattering him to the extreme.
a staff member walks by, cutting your conversation short. “y/n, you’re back on in one. superm is on right after.”
you and mark turn back to each other, speaking the same two words at the same time.
“good luck.”
ellen introduces you again, only this time you hold a guitar and stand in front of a microphone once you’re back on the stage. you perform a never before heard song but judging by the roaring applause and standing ovation you receive by the end of it, it’s another successful hit.
you bask in the amazing response and then you’re ushered backstage for the last time. you catch sight of the staff placing more seats on the stage as you exit and you smile eagerly, knowing exactly what’s to come. you search the hallways for your new friend, hoping you can catch him before the show goes back on air. you’re almost about to give up when you hear your name being called.
you lock eyes with mark who stands a couple feet away, barely hidden from the audience’s view. even from where you stand you can tell he has a nervous smile on his face. you jog towards him and to your surprise, he envelops your figure without a second thought. in return, you tentatively wrap your arms around him.
“great job,” he murmurs, breath fanning your ear. “i really did cheer you on.”
“i’ll make sure to do the same.” you hesitantly pull away from his embrace, holding him at an arm’s length away. “go get ‘em.”
he gives you a determined nod and you watch him rush on stage, the audience’s wild cheering increasing. their energy didn’t fade once throughout the interview and just as you had suspected, mark was doing wonderfully. he clearly thrived in interviews; his awkward, boyish nature enchanting everyone in the studio, yourself included.
ellen crosses her legs and clears her throat. “so, i have to ask you something, you know, for the fans.”
the group leaned forward in anticipation, awaiting her next words.
“are any of you dating?”
the crowd released noises of amusement at hearing the very personal question. you can’t help but feel intrigued although you knew ellen has always been quite the invasive person. you watched as the seven boys looked around at each other, unsure what to say but before their silence can become suspiciously long, mark ends up taking the question.
“why are you always so curious about this, though?” he blurts.
the audience absolutely eats up his response, cheering at his bluntness. even you find it humorous, shoulders shaking with a chuckle. that’s definitely gonna become a meme, you think.
“it’s my job!” counters ellen. “why are you so defensive?”
the crowd is very responsive to ellen’s rebuttal, ‘ooh’ing in amusement.
mark’s silence only pushes the hostess to continue teasing him.
“does it maybe have anything to do with y/n?”
your smile drops. had she seen you two? you’re not sure why you feel so exposed; after all, you had just been talking.
ellen’s lips adorn a sly smile at mark’s stunned reaction. “you seemed to be getting very comfortable with each other backstage.”
the black haired male stumbles over his words before he gets a semi-coherent sentence out. “we just, um—we just met.”
“oh really? you two looked like you had known each other forever.”
mark chuckles breathlessly, eyes glued to his lap, obviously at a loss for words. ellen stares at him expectantly so he mutters, “i like making friends.”
ellen, the audience, and even some of the band members laugh at his response.
“well, i’m sure there’s a lot of fans out there that wish they were your ‘friend’.” her tone makes it clear she doesn’t buy his excuse but she prods him no further, instead turning to stare into the main camera. “when we get back superm will be performing their title track ‘jopping’. during the commercial break, please feel free to place your bets as to how long mark and y/n will remain ‘friends’.”
the camera pans to mark for a couple seconds; his ears are bright red and his cheeks are dusted light pink, his makeup doing nothing to help hide the blush. his eyes dart around, anxiously and then they cut to commercials.
you shake your head, smiling at the entire situation and just how big of a dork mark was.
you attentively watch superm’s two performances, eyes mostly glued to a certain rapper. you sit patiently in the makeup room, waiting for mark to return backstage so you can congratulate him but he never appears. you try to conceal your disappointment, even when lily enters the room, smiling brightly.
“well, the show’s over, doll.” she removes her makeup stained apron and glances at you as she places it on a nearby rack. “hey, why the long face?”
you stare at your reflection in the mirror, no longer bothering to hide your pout now that your frustration had been made known.
“you did great, if that’s what you’re worried about. just ask mark.”
“he left,” you mumble. “i thought i’d be able to catch him before he left and we could… i don’t know, talk a bit more? i just really—” you trail off.
“like him?” lily suggests, too loudly for your liking.
your head snaps towards her, eyes wide, only confirming your feelings.
“don’t worry, dear, you can say it. i won’t tell ellen,” she jokes.
you sigh and slump down in your seat. “yeah. i like him.”
“well, then, i have good news for you.”
you half-heartedly hum, allowing her to continue.
she waves a piece of crumpled paper in front of your face. you grab it from her, staring at it curiously.
“what’s this?”
she nods her head at it, encouraging you to find out for yourself. “open it and see.”
you obey, unfolding the tiny item. your eyes struggle to read the words inside but if you squint, they become clearer.
please call, me i would love to become closer ‘friends’.
(xxx) xxx-xxxx
it’s mark btw :)
you can’t contain your smile at the cute little note.
“he’s adorable,” you say, mostly to yourself but lily audibly agrees.
“he ran into me as he was leaving and begged me to deliver that message to you. which reminds me, i’m supposed to let you know that he wishes he could have stuck around but his schedule is ‘crazy tight’ so he had to ‘dip’. his words not mine.”
you nod, grin widening. “thanks, lily.”
“my pleasure. nothing like young love.”
you give her a glare although it’s all but threatening.
she folds her arms, teasingly. “so, are you going to give him a call or what?”
you’re sure she sees the phone in your hand and the way your fingers press the numbers on the keypad, excitedly but nevertheless, you decide to answer.
“i’d be crazy not to.”

Variety’s Grammy-nominated Hitmaker of the Year goes deep on the music industry, the great pause and finding his own muses.
Contemporary effects and on-trend beats hardly factor into Styles’ decision-making. He likes to focus on feelings — his own and his followers’ — and see himself on the other side of the velvet rope, an important distinction in his view. “People within [the industry] feel like they operate on a higher level of listening, and I like to make music from the point of being a fan of music,” Styles says. “Fans are the best A&R.”
This from someone who’s had free rein to pursue every musical whim, and hand in the album of his dreams in the form of “Fine Line.” Chart success makes it all the sweeter, but Styles insists that writing “for the right reasons” supersedes any commercial considerations. “There’s no part that feels, eh, icky — like it was made in the lab,” he says.
Styles has experience in this realm. As a graduate of the U.K. competition series “The X Factor,” where he and four other auditionees — Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson — were singled out by show creator and star judge Simon Cowell to conjoin as One Direction, he’s seen how the prefab pop machine works up close. The One Direction oeuvre, which counts some 42 million albums sold worldwide, includes songs written with such established hitmakers as Ryan Tedder, Savan Kotecha and Teddy Geiger. Being a studious, insatiable observer, Styles took it all in.
“I learned so much,” he says of the experience. “When we were in the band, I used to try and write with as many different people as I could. I wanted to practice — and I wrote a lot of bad shit.”
His bandmates also benefited from the pop star boot camp. The proof is in the relatively seamless solo transitions of at least three of its members — Payne, Malik and Horan in addition to Styles — each of whom has landed hit singles on charts in the U.K., the U.S. and beyond.
This departs from the typical trajectories of boy bands including New Kids on the Block and ’N Sync, which have all pro ered a star frontman. The thinking for decades was that a record company would be lucky to have one breakout solo career among the bunch.
Styles has plainly thought about this.
“When you look at the history of people coming out of bands and starting solo careers, they feel this need to apologize for being in the band. ‘Don’t worry, everyone, that wasn’t me! Now I get to do what I really want to do.’ But we loved being in the band,” he says. “I think there’s a wont to pit people against each other. And I think it’s never been about that for us. It’s about a next step in evolution. The fact that we’ve all achieved different things outside of the band says a lot about how hard we worked in it.”
Indeed, during the five-ish years that One Direction existed, Styles’ schedule involved the sort of nonstop international jet-setting that few get to see in a lifetime, never mind their teenage years. Between 2011 and 2015, One Direction’s tours pulled in north of $631 million in gross ticket sales, according to concert trade Pollstar, and the band was selling out stadiums worldwide by the time it entered its extended hiatus. Styles, too, had built up to playing arenas as a solo artist, engaging audiences with his colorful stage wear and banter and left-of-center choices for opening acts (a pre-Grammy-haul Kacey Musgraves in 2018; indie darlings King Princess and Jenny Lewis for his rescheduled 2021 run).
Stages of all sizes feel like home to Styles. He grew up in a suburb of Manchester, ground zero for some of the biggest British acts of the 1980s and ’90s, including Joy Division, New Order, the Smiths and Oasis, the latter of which broke the same year Styles was born. His parents were also music lovers. Styles’ father fed him a balanced diet of the Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, the Rolling Stones and Queen, while Mum was a fan of Shania Twain, Norah Jones and Savage Garden. “They’re all great melody writers,” says Styles of the acts’ musical throughline.
Stevie Nicks, who in the past has described “Fine Line” as Styles’ “Rumours,” referencing the Fleetwood Mac 1977 classic, sees him as a kindred spirit. “Harry writes and sings his songs about real experiences that seemingly happened yesterday,” she tells Variety. “He taps into real life. He doesn’t make up stories. He tells the truth, and that is what I do. ‘Fine Line’ has been my favorite record since it came out. It is his ‘Rumours.’ I told him that in a note on December 13, 2019 before he went on stage to play the ‘Fine Line’ album at the Forum. We cried. He sang those songs like he had sung them a thousand times. That’s a great songwriter and a great performer.”
“Harry’s playing and writing is instinctual,” adds Jonathan Wilson, a friend and peer who’s advised Styles on backing and session musicians. “He understands history and where to take the torch. You can see the thread of great British performers — from Bolan to Bowie — in his music.”
Also shaping his musical DNA was Manchester itself, the site of a 23,500-seat arena, dubbed Co-op Live, for which Styles is an investor and adviser. Oak View Group, a company specializing in live entertainment and global sports that was founded by Tim Leiweke and Irving Azoff in 2015 (Jeffrey Azoff, Irving’s son, represents Styles at Full Stop Management), is leading the effort to construct the venue. The project gained planning approval in September and is set to open in 2023, with its arrival representing a £350 million ($455 million) investment in the city. (Worth noting: Manchester is already home to an arena — the site of a 2017 bombing outside an Ariana Grande concert — and a football stadium, where One Love Manchester, an all-star benefit show to raise money for victims of the terrorist attack, took place.)
“I went to my first shows in Manchester,” Styles says of concerts paid for with money earned delivering newspapers for a supermarket called the Co-op. “My friends and I would go in on weekends. There’s so many amazing small venues, and music is such a massive part of the city. I think Manchester deserves it. It feels like a full-circle, coming-home thing to be doing this and to be able to give any kind of input. I’m incredibly proud. Hopefully they’ll let me play there at some point.”
Though Styles has owned properties in Los Angeles, his base for the foreseeable future is London. “I feel like my relationship with L.A. has changed a lot,” he explains. “I’ve kind of accepted that I don’t have to live here anymore; for a while I felt like I was supposed to. Like it meant things were going well. This happened, then you move to L.A.! But I don’t really want to.”
Is it any wonder? Between COVID and the turmoil in the U.S. spurred by the presidential election, Styles, like some 79 million American voters, is recovering from sticker shock over the bill of goods sold to them by the concept of democracy. “In general, as people, there’s a lack of empathy,” he observes. “We found this place that’s so divisive. We just don’t listen to each other anymore. And that’s quite scary.”
That belief prompted Styles to speak out publicly in the wake of George Floyd’s death. As protests in support of Black Lives Matter took to streets all over the world, for Styles, it triggered a period of introspection, as marked by an Instagram message (liked by 2.7 million users and counting) in which he declared: “I do things every day without fear, because I am privileged, and I am privileged every day because I am white. … Being not racist is not enough, we must be anti racist. Social change is enacted when a society mobilizes. I stand in solidarity with all of those protesting. I’m donating to help post bail for arrested organizers. Look inwards, educate yourself and others. LISTEN, READ, SHARE, DONATE and VOTE. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. BLACK LIVES MATTER.”
“Talking about race can be really uncomfortable for everyone,” Styles elaborates. “I had a realization that my own comfort in the conversation has nothing to do with the problem — like that’s not enough of a reason to not have a conversation. Looking back, I don’t think I’ve been outspoken enough in the past. Using that feeling has pushed me forward to being open and ready to learn. … How can I ensure from my side that in 20 years, the right things are still being done and the right people are getting the right opportunities? That it’s not a passing thing?”
His own record company — and corporate parent Sony Music Group, whose chairman, Rob Stringer, signed Styles in 2016 — has been grappling with these same questions as the industry has faced its own reckoning with race. At issue: inequality among the upper ranks (an oft-cited statistic: popular music is 80% Black, but the music business is 80% white); contracts rooted in a decades-old system that many say is set up to take advantage of artists, Black artists more unfairly than white; and the call for a return of master rights, an ownership model that is at the core of the business.
Styles acknowledges the fundamental imbalance in how a major label deal is structured — the record company takes on the financial risk while the artist is made to recoup money spent on the project before the act is considered profitable and earning royalties (typically at a 15% to 18% rate for the artist, while the label keeps and disburses the rest). “Historically, I can’t think of any industry that’s benefited more off of Black culture than music,” he says. “There are discussions that need to happen about this long history of not being paid fairly. It’s a time for listening, and hopefully, people will come out humbled, educated and willing to learn and change.”
By all accounts, Styles is a voracious reader, a movie lover and an aesthete. He stays in shape by adhering to a strict daily exercise routine. “I tried to keep up but didn’t last more than two weeks,” says Hull, Styles’ producer, with a laugh. “The discipline is terrifying.”
Of course, with the fashion world beckoning — Styles recently appeared in a film series for Gucci’s new collection that was co-directed by the fashion house’s creative director, Alessandro Michele, and Oscar winner Gus Van Sant — and a movie that’s set in the 1950s, maintaining that physique is part of the job. And he’s no stranger to visual continuity after appearing in Christopher Nolan’s epic “Dunkirk” and having to return to set for reshoots; his hair, which needed to be cut back to its circa 1940 form, is a constant topic of conversation among fans. This time, it’s the ink that poses a challenge. By Styles’ tally, he’s up to 60 tattoos, which require an hour in the makeup chair to cover up. “It’s the only time I really regret getting tattooed,” he says.
He shows no regret, however, when it comes to stylistic choices overall, and takes pride in his gender-agnostic portfolio, which includes wearing a Gucci dress on that Vogue cover— an image that incited conservative pundit Candace Owens to plead publicly to “bring back manly men.” In Styles’ view: “To not wear [something] because it’s females’ clothing, you shut out a whole world of great clothes. And I think what’s exciting about right now is you can wear what you like. It doesn’t have to be X or Y. Those lines are becoming more and more blurred.”
But acclaim, if you can believe it, is not top of mind for Styles. As far as the Grammys are concerned, Styles shrugs, “It’s never why I do anything.” His team and longtime label, however, had their hearts set on a showing at the Jan. 31 ceremony. Their investment in Styles has been substantial — not just monetarily but in carefully crafting his career in the wake of such icons as David Bowie, who released his final albums with the label. Hope at the company and in many fans’ hearts that Styles would receive an album of the year nomination did not come to pass. However, he was recognized in three categories, including best pop vocal album.
“It’s always nice to know that people like what you’re doing, but ultimately — and especially working in a subjective field — I don’t put too much weight on that stuff,” Styles says. “I think it’s important when making any kind of art to remove the ego from it.” Citing the painter Matisse, he adds: “It’s about the work that you do when you’re not expecting any applause.”

This Charming Man: Why We’re Wild About Harry Styles
Variety’s Grammy-nominated Hitmaker of the Year goes deep on the music industry, the great pause and finding his own muses.

Deja Vu
Idol: Handong (Dreamcatcher)
Anon: hello, my fav author! 🤗 can i request a scenario for dreamcatcher’s handong? you know how she does the spinny thing for the “oh now holding this pain” part in deja vu? the reader is from a different girl group and is watching them perform when she sees handong do that. that cliche slow motion thing happens and reader realizes she likes handong. her members notice this and happens to be friends with the other dc members so they set up the reader and handong. thank you for your time!
Author’s note: In celebration of Handong coming back to SK, I decided to have this up!
Tumblr media
☕buy me a coffee☕
“Guys, hurry up! We’ll be performing right after Dreamcatcher.” Seungyeon called out to all of you. Some of your members have gone to retouch their makeup while you tore your eyes away from the screen, knowing full well that you had to get ready if you wanted to see the rest of the performance.
Dreamcatcher has been very close with your group and you were able to befriend all of the seven girls, thanks to your members who were able to crack you out of your shy shell. And ever since then, you’ve been hanging out with the girls whenever possible.
Though, you did find yourself getting much closer with one particular Chinese member. Everyone believed that you were best friends with how close and often you would spend time with one another that during interviews, you would be brought up when it came to one another.
It helped when you were able to speak and understand Chinese. Handong was estatic when she found out and often spoke with you, even offering to teach you when you struggled with a few words and you returned the favor when she stumbled a bit with her Korean.
“Daydreaming again, Y/n?” Sorn’s teasing voice brings you back to reality once you blink and look at her while you were walking towards the stage. “Just a little nervous, I guess.” You admit and Eunbin looks confused when she links her arm with yours. “You’re nervous?” Her laughter rings in your ears whilst Seunghee looks over when you shake your head.
“Hey, just because we’ve been doing this before doesn’t mean I can’t get nervous.” You huffed, stopping once you all reach the entrance, the sound of Dreamcatcher’s Deja Vu greeting your ears and you quickly pulled away from the maknae to have a look at the performance.
Elkie giggled when she joined you, leaning against your shoulder just as the pre-chorus began to play and Handong’s part came on. Since you’ve listened to their songs, it wasn’t a surprise to anyone when you started to mouth the lyrics.
However, the moment Handong started to spin around on stage, you couldn’t really lay your eyes elsewhere when your heart skipped a beat. She looked so elegant, especially with their outfits, and her hair made her look even more beautiful than she already was.
It honestly felt as though the wind was knocked out of your lungs that you hadn’t noticed the way your eyes widened and heat rushed to your cheeks when butterflies began to swarm in your stomach.
Why were you acting like this?
She’s your friend, of course you would be happy to watch her performance. And it was no doubt that she was absolutely stunning with the voice of an angel.
The thought made you stiffen and your blush worsened, more so when your eyes met the blonde’s not too long afterwards and she flashed you a dazzling smile before continuing the rest of her performance.
Due to your malfunctioning state, you didn’t notice when Elkie had pulled away and watched you carefully, quietly giggling before she was calling the rest of your members then pointed to your flushed cheeks and dumbfounded look.
Immediately, Seungyeon caught on to what was happening and she shushed the rest of the girls as she whispered something to each of them. Right after, they each nodded their heads and you’d all placed your in-ears on as Dreamcatcher finally finished and you were given the signal to get ready.
When they passed by, you were all bowing and the seven girls happily greeted you all, waving their hands and throwing their fists in the air. “CLC, fighting!” They cheered and you felt your nerves kick in when Handong grinned at you.
Yujin silently giggled, doing her best to cover it up as she cleared her throat and you all entered the stage, smiling as your fans started to call your names.
..
“See! I told you, there was nothing to be nervous about, unnie.” Eunbin patted your back a few times when you sat down, taking your in-ears off and sighing in relief. “I know, but you can’t really blame me.” You counter, making Yeeun shake her head when she handed you a water bottle. “I mean, anyone would be nervous if their crush was watching.” She said nonchalantly and your eyes widened in surprise when you nearly choked on your water.
Eunbin looked just as surprised by your reaction as she patted your back and Yeeun was just laughing her ass off, doubling over as she pointed at your face. “You should have seen your face, unnie! It was hilarious!”
But you were far from amused as you wiped your mouth and placed the bottle down. “What the hell were you talking about? I don’t have a crush.” You said in between coughs before Seungyeon was rolling her eyes and waving her hand. “Of course you don’t. So you wouldn’t mind having Dreamcatcher over, right?” Elkie said in a teasing tone, but it was enough to make even the tips of your ears burn.
But refusing to give them the satisfaction, you shrugged your shoulders and turned away to grab your phone. “I mean, if you want, that’s fine. But aren’t they going to be tired after just performing?” But your leader was already shaking her head, no. “We’ve already talked to Sua and Yoohyeon when we passed by. They said they’d be here after a while.”
The look on all of their faces made you extremely nervous for some reason. Of course, you didn’t know what they were plotting, but with the looks they all sent each other, you know that it’s anything but good. Adding to what Yeeun said earlier, you feel as though they were setting you up for embarrassment.
So while you all waited, you began to take some of the hair ties off and then put your in-ears back in their case just so they don’t break or get misplaced like your last pair when you had left them on the table and ended up getting crushed by some of the staff’s things.
“You look like you’re getting ready to go home.” The sound of someone laughing caused your hands to stop moving and your breath hitched in when you looked in the mirror to see Handong already standing behind you with that same smile directed at you and your cheeks were once again colored in a pink hue as you fiddled with the case in your hands. “Just making sure my things are fixed. Don’t want to lose them, you know?”
Minji glanced over at the two of you and laughed when she saw Handong just watching you while you failed to look back at her. “What’s happening over there?” Yoohyeon asked confusedly and Elkie shrugged her shoulders with a faux innocent look on her face. “Unnie has been nervous since earlier. But she’ll be fine.”
Siyeon, however, was already laughing next to Seunghee when she realized what was really going on. Plus, the blush on your face and the way you acted like a school girl was a very clear indication of what was happening to you and her friend.
With Handong though, she found your sudden shyness a bit adorable as she took the seat next to you and leaned against the table just so she could look at your face properly.
“This is funny.” She suddenly says and you’re startled by how close she suddenly is. “I thought this Y/n left a couple years back.” She chuckled and your blush worsened when you crossed your arms in a defensive manner. “I’m still shy. Nothing much changed.” You insist but she just shakes her head. “Shy Y/n stopped existing around me.” She states and you weakly glare at her. “Hey, I have my moments.” You retort as you turn your head away due to how flustered you were with how she was insistent in making eye contact.
“You were just like this when we first met. Everyone was having fun and you wouldn’t leave Sorn or Yujin’s side. What’s gotten you so shy this time?” She poked your side, causing you to flinch before lightly pushing her hand away. “Nothing! I’m always like this.” You whined and she ended up laughing with how much you were squirming until she put a hand on your knee, immediately stopping you from moving as you held your breath when she showed you a soft smile.
She had glanced to the side to see most of your and her group members watching the whole thing with cat-like smirks and grins that it made her mentally roll her eyes before she’s decided to finally address the source of your inner turmoil.
“Do you know what the of course game is?” She asks and you suddenly look at her, confused by her sudden invitation of playing, but nodded nonetheless. “Then let’s play.” She grins at you, finally withdrawing her hand and leaning back while you watched curiously to see what trick she had up her sleeve.
Seeing that you wouldn’t be making the first move, Handong decided to go first as she spoke confidently. “Do you want to go out with me for dinner?”
Your brain short circuits at her question before your mind goes completely blank. But when she giggles, you’re immediately drawn back to reality as she reached to touch your hand. “You’re supposed to answer, silly.”
You’re sure with the heat on your face, you could cook an egg. Yet, despite the embarrassment, you were able to give her the answer that she was looking for. “O-Of course.”
And with that, the rest of the girls exploded in cheers while your head spun around to look at them. Your members were hollering at you and clapping while the rest of Dreamcatcher were grinning and shouting congratulations. Yubin and Bora even threw some thumbs up just when you looked back to the girl that was smiling at you from her seat.
“W-Wait, you were serious?” You ask as she stands up, taking your hand so you could join everyone else.
She winked playfully before replying with a cheeky “Of course” and you were sure that you weren’t going to stop blushing anytime soon.

Howdy partner ! How do you think Javier and Arthur would react if they discover that their girlfriend/wife can sing opera and is very talented ? I just saw a documentary about it so it gave me this original idea, but I don't write and you do it very well, so have fun with this special request x)
Hmm, this one might be more challenging. I have never written for Javier before so this might be complete trash on his part. I will do my best.
Tumblr media
Arthur Morgan
You’ve been dating for some time now. Months, really. Arthur already loves you more than anyone else he’s ever dated, not that there’s a long list.
He finds so many of your habits quirky and adorable. He loves the little things you do best. The way you wear your hair, the way you move. The way you stick your tongue out when you’re focusing really hard on a task.
He comes back to camp one day to find you’ve gone The other girls tell him you’ve gone down to the river.
He follows the trail down and soon hears your voice, but you’re singing. He’s never heard you sing before and he certainly didn’t know you were a trained opera singer. The sound is beautiful and he actually stops to listen before continuing on to find you.
Once he spots you bathing in a secluded section of the river, he just watches you and listens as you continue to sing. He swears you’re an angel, washed in sunlight as your voice carries over to him.
You look up and spot him. You’re not embarrassed that he’s looking at you while you’re nude. He’s seen you plenty of times like this. However, you call out. “How dare you spy on a lady while she’s bathing, Mr. Morgan?”
He can’t help but chuckle, the spell your voice cast broken, but at least it’s replaced by your lovely smile.
You walk up to him, putting on your undergarments. You stretch up to kiss him but he pulls away.
“You want one, you gotta do two things: first, explain where you learned to sing like that and second you have to sing for a kiss.”
You grin at him. “My mom used to sing with a traveling show until she met my dad. She taught me to sing and I even performed with her a few places. You really like it that much?”
He nods. “Nothing has sounded more amazin’, darlin’. Now sing.”
You do and his eyes light up. He listens to every syllable and a big, goofy grin spreads across your face. When you finish the last note, he folds his arms around you.
“Good girl. Now your reward.”
This kiss is different. It’s full of passion and desire, and his hands squeeze around your waist.
“Promise me you’ll do that more often,” he whispers in your ear.
Javier Escuella
You and Javier have been together for years. You’re honestly surprised he hasn’t popped the question, but you’re not pressuring him. He’s probably just worried about what the future has in store.
However, it doesn’t stop you dropping hints. You go as far as pointing out pretty rings you see in stores whenever you’re in town with him, making flower necklaces and crowns, practicing saying your name with his and even some phrases in Spanish.
One night, while sitting around the fire, you decide to drop the ultimate hint. You’ve never told Javier about your past as a singer. It was so long ago and it’s what got you in trouble in the first place. You used to sing with a pretty big traveling show, but one night one of the other performers who had one of the biggest acts got drunk and became overly friendly with you.
He tried raping you, telling you to sing for him, but you ended up whipping out the knife he always carried and slashing his throat.
The director of the show was furious, telling you that you should have let him attack you since he’d still be alive. He put a bounty on your head when you told him where to stick it, which forced you to flee right into this gang. Although you’re happy and like pretty much everyone here, you vowed never to sing again because it’s what got you in trouble in the first place.
Javier sits around the fire with multiple other members sitting around it. They trade talk easily and laugh often. The mood is high and the sky is clear, flecked with stars. The perfect mood.
Javier grabs his guitar and begins playing. You sway to the tune for a few minutes and then you call over to him, asking him to play the tune for a love song you used to sing. He doesn’t know it, but you hum the first few verses and the chorus. Javier has a spectacular ear, so he plays around with the notes until he’s got it down.
He begins to play the beginning of the song and you stand up, caught up in the moment, and then begin to sing. Your strong voice carries across camp, silencing everyone around as they listen. Javier stumbles a bit as he listens, clearly taken in by your voice.
You really focus on the lines that have to do with loving someone eternally and unconditionally, pointedly looking at Javier. His eyes are big and his mouth is slightly open, but his fingers never stop moving.
You finish the last note on a long, high stream. Javier follows it with a flourish in the chords and then silence.
Uncle and Dutch comment on how beautiful the song was. Arthur says he never knew you could sing. Even Grimshaw compliments you. However, you focus only on Javier.
He sets down his guitar and then stands up. He puts his hand on your shoulder and slowly walks you away from the fire and into the cover of the trees.
“I guess you really want to talk about our future,” he says, blushing. “Guess I need to go find a ring.”
Thanks for sending this in, Anon! Again, a new challenge but not an unwelcome one!

Story of Another Us Part 1 (Calum Hood)
Tumblr media
pairing[s]: calum hood x oc
warnings: bitchiness? calum with a kid
word count: 2k+
The sun was barely beginning to rise when Harlow walked into her kitchen, answering emails and preparing for the day. The coffee maker had just finished brewing, Harlow pouring herself a glass before she took a seat at the island, enjoying what little quiet time she had before her daughter woke up.
Today’s agenda was packed- most days usually were- but today Harlow was particularly excited. She and her best friend Lennon owned a full-service branding business, complete with design, photography, and videography. They worked with the best of the best companies and everyone’s favorite celebrities on everything from designing new products to photoshoots for leading magazines- which is exactly what they’re doing today. Today, at their studio in Downtown Los Angeles, they were holding the photoshoot for an upcoming edition of Rolling Stone, the cover story being about one of Harlow’s (and her daughter’s) favorite bands, 5 Seconds of Summer.
If you asked Harlow why she likes the band, you’d think her response was the most cliche thing you’d heard, but it wasn’t.
Their music helped her through a hard time in her life.
Her past was a secret to most people, as it was something that was hard to talk about.
When she was 16, Harlow met Sam Peters. She was a sophomore, an invisible, and he was a senior, captain of the football team, and the most popular guy in school. She wasn’t sure how it had happened, but he fell for her, and she for him. After graduation, he attended a local community college and waited for her to graduate. That lasted about a year. He decided to enlist in the Army shortly before he turned 20.
The day she turned 18, he proposed. It wasn’t anything fancy, but it was everything she had dreamt of and more. A few short months later- after his basic training- they were married and he was set to deploy for his first tour overseas. A few weeks after he left, she found out she was pregnant. She was ecstatic. A few days after, they had a short video chat where she told him the news. He was so happy.
She was 5 months along when she heard a knock on their front door. There stood a Chaplin, a sad expression on their face. Harlow knew immediately what had happened. Sam had been killed while serving his country. Her life had changed in a moment. She was 19, already widowed and a mother to be.
She can’t remember much in the months that followed, other than that she fell into a deep depression and in another 3 months, she had her daughter: Badgley Ann Peters.
After she was born, Harlow knew she needed to get better for her. She began by moving from Texas- where she and Sam had moved after he had enlisted- to sunny Los Angeles with her best friend and godmother to her daughter, Lennon. There, they started the business out of their small apartment and began growing it into what it is today. At the same time, she discovered that music was a way for her to cope and that this band of 4 boys around her age, helped her the most. She’d have their music on almost nonstop, dancing around and singing with her daughter.
“Hey, Har.” Lennon mumbled, walking into the kitchen and pouring herself a cup of coffee, “What time are we supposed to be at the studio?”
“8.” Harlow sighed happily, checking the time on her phone. 6:30. “I’ll be right back.” She drank the last of her coffee before standing up. She made her way up the stairs to her daughter's room and opened the door slowly. The mint room was covered with art and posters of 5 Seconds of Summer- like mother, like daughter. “Badge, sweetie. It’s time to get up.” She whispered quietly, taking a seat on the edge of Badgley's bed. She stirred, her eyes opening slowly with a tired hum. “Good morning sweetheart.” Harlow smiled down at her, placing a soft kiss on her head.
“Morning mommy.” The small girl let out a yawn as she sat up. Her brown hair was a tangled mess, making Harlow laugh.
“Time to get up. We have to head to the studio soon. Mommy has to work with some important clients.” Harlow said quietly as she stood up, picking her daughter up. “Do you want some of Uncle Fletcher’s waffles?” Harlow asked, watching as her daughter nodded tiredly. Sam’s brother Fletcher would come over every Sunday and make a large batch of his waffles- Badgley's favorite food- so they would have enough to reheat throughout the week.
Harlow carefully made her way down the stairs, carrying her daughter to the island and sitting her down in her chair.
“Good morning, Auntie Len!” Badge smiled at her aunt, whose face broke into a grin upon hearing her. I pulled some waffles out of the freezer, sticking them in the microwave as I watched.
“Good morning, Le! Did you sleep well?” Lennon asked her, making her light up.
“Mhhm!” Badgley answered with a grin, having finally woken up completely. “I had a dream Mommy mariwed Callie.” Callie is what she called Calum, a member of the band. He was her favorite member, as she loved all of the “drawings” he had on his body- that was appropriate for a 3-year-old to see, that is. Harlow stifled a laugh as the microwave beeped. She covered the waffles in syrup and strawberries before setting the plate in front of her daughter with a fork.
“She did?” Lennon laughed, casting a side glance at Harlow, who was blushing softly. They never told Badgley who their celebrity clients were, as they didn’t want to raise her to treat them any differently than she would anyone else.
“Yes!” Badgley cheered with her mouth full of waffle, making her mom and aunt laugh. “She wore a really pwetty purple dwess and they had a huge cake and he sanged his song for her.”
“That’s cute Badge.” Harlow laughed but hearing this made her nervous. She knew this was going to be all she could think about today, which would usually be fine, but he was one of today’s clients.
An hour later, the girls were at the studio, setting up for the shoot. Harlow set Badgley in the playroom before heading to her office to gather what she’d need to work while overseeing the shoot. Lennon was getting their photographer set up when the door opened, four rowdy men making their way inside, followed by a very tired looking woman.
Harlow took a deep breath before setting down her iPad and making her way over to the group. “Hi there! I’m Harlow Tallis. Welcome to Future Scars.” She smiled at the men, who let out a chorus of greetings. Lennon stepped over, extending a hand to Michael with a grin.
“Hi, I’m Lennon Copland. Harlow and I will be overseeing your shoot.” Michael broke into an excited grin. “I just need to finish getting the photographer set up. Harlow will show you to the green room.” I took a couple of steps ahead of the group, turning around with a smile. She caught Calum’s eye, a small blush creeping onto her cheeks as she waited for the boys to grab their things. “I forgot my bag in the car,” Luke let out a low mutter, making Ashton and Michael laugh, “I’ll be right back.”
Lennon looked over at her best friend with a smirk, watching as her celebrity crush approached her.
“Harlow, is it?” Calum asked with a smile. Harlow nodded slowly, making him chuckle. “I’m Calum. Calum Hood.”
Harlow took a deep, nervous breath. “Hi.” She choked out, making him chuckle.
“Nervous?” She nodded, making his smile grow into a grin. “I usually have that effect on people.” That made Harlow laugh, her nerves beginning to fade away.
“Is that so?” Luke reentered the building, allowing Harlow to finally lead them to the green room.
“So tell me, Harlow, how long have you been doing this?” Calum asked her as they walked through the building.
“Almost three years now.” She answered with a grin. She came to a stop right in front of the green room, her back facing the playroom door. “Here’s the green room. This’ll be where you get changed and can relax in between set changes.” She smiled, pointing to the open door of the room.
Three of the bandmates headed into the room, Calum staying behind with Harlow. He was about to say something when the door behind Harlow opened, a little girl popping her head out. She turned to Calum, who smiled softly at her, letting out a shriek when she realized who it was.
“Mommy!” She tugged on the bottom of Harlow’s shirt. “It’s Callie!”
Harlow let out a nervous laugh, looking up at the confused man.
“Callie?” He asked, the little girl nodding her head. He cast Harlow a soft smile before crouching down to the Badgley’s height. “You know who I am?”
“You’re from 5sause.” She answered with a grin.
“I’m Calum,” He chuckled, “it’s nice to meet you-”
“Badgley.” She smiled proudly at him. This was the first time she had pronounced her name correctly, which caught Harlow off guard.
“Badge-” She cut in, picking up her daughter with a grin, “You did it! You said your name right!”
Calum stood up, watching as the brown haired women high fived the little girl, who was a spitting image of her mother.
“What did you need, Badge?” Harlow asked the girl, who thought for a minute before she shrugged. “Did you run out of juice?” Badgley nodded for a moment. “Okay. I’ll go get you a new one. Go back and play, okay?” The woman tickled her daughter, whose laugh was like music to Calum’s ears. His smile never wavered as he watched Harlow set the young girl down and made sure she went back into the room before closing the door.
“So, was that your-”
“Daughter, yes.” Harlow nodded with a smile.
“She’s cute.” Calum laughed, “How old is she?”
“She just turned 3.”
Harlow took a deep breath. She knew what would come next in this conversation. It always ended the same.
“Aren’t you a little-“ He started.
“Look, I’m going to stop you right there. I’ve had this conversation enough to know what comes next. I don’t want to be slut-shamed over the fact that I’m a young mother. I made my choices and because of them I have my beautiful daughter, okay?” She rushed out before spinning on her heel, heading towards the kitchen and leaving the man in shock.
Calum watched as Harlow turned out of sight before walking into the green room and running a hand through his hair. His three bandmates watched as he took a seat, letting out a groan.
“What just happened out there?” Ashton spoke, taking a sip of one of the water bottles that the studio provided.
“I don’t know, mate.” Calum ran another hand through his hair before speaking. “I was just talking to that girl and then her daughter came out-”
“She has a daughter?” Luke asked, shock written on his face. “Isn’t she like our age?”
“I have no idea. I tried to ask, but she cut me off saying she didn’t want to be slut-shamed and then she walked away.” He shrugged. “Her daughter knew who we were, though.”
“How old is she?” Michael asked.
“Three. Her name is Badgley.” Calum smiled softly, thinking of the little girl. “She called me Callie.” His voice came out as a whisper. His friends looked at one another, knowing smiles on their lips. They had known Calum since they were teens, but they had never seen him this interested in someone, especially after just meeting them.
“So are you going to try and talk to her again?” Luke asked, making Calum break out of whatever trance his thoughts had put him in.
“Hm? Oh, I don’t know. She didn’t seem like she really wanted to talk anymore.”

Jungkook Scenario: You Find Him Cheating on You Pt.8
Fireworks exploded on the stage, marking the chorus of the opening ceremony song.
‘Lo siento, Lo siento, Yo no tengo prisa vamos lento.
Lo siento, Lo siento, Let’s take our time’
You saw Leslie Grace, the featured singer sway her hips along the choreography with Super Junior. You really liked this song and performance, it was a refreshing song, with a latín vibe, which almost made you forget about all the events that had occurred some minutes ago.
You turned towards your right, towards Dawon, who was mesmerized by the presentation on the stage. And he wasn’t the only one, as all of the JFX members were also looking at the performance with the same face. Was it just for the cameras rolling, or they were really enchanted by the Latin girl singing on stage?.
You giggled, guys will always be guys. Dawon snapped from his trance, looking you with a shy smile.
Your stomach twitched a little, surprising you. You probably were just nervous due to the award you were competing for.
Dawon was really a great match. He was a nice, he cared for you, and a gentleman, plus, he already was all puppy love for you. Somehow, you were developing some sort of small feelings for him. It surely would take time to heal your heart, but you could see yourself opening up more for him in the future.
You returned the smile, locking eyes with him. You saw him blush a little bit due to the lights reflecting on his face from the stage, however that tender expression suddenly changed as he looked over your shoulder, towards the other grand table.
Throughout all the time that had elapsed since your meeting with your ex you had felt observed. Not the kind of feeling you had when you entered a room with people, but the feeling you had when you were being stared at by someone who wanted to fight with you. It had made with uncomfortable and self conscious the whole time.
You slowly turned towards the direction of the stare, finding yourself with two pair of bunny black eyes staring back and forth suspiciously between you and Dawon. Jungkook was sitting cockily at his table, with one closed fist over the table, his eyes were almost throwing daggers at Dawon, as he pushed his tongue into the inner part of his cheek. A move you had always found sexy on him.
You had been walking hand in hand with a disguised Jungkook on the busy streets near the Han River, you were going to the park of the Han River to have a picnic date. He was using a black wig with some glasses and a mouth cover, as simple as it seemed, almost half of the guys your had crossed that day were using the same accessories.
“The weather is just perfect!, I love it.” You said cheerfully, while turning towards him with a cheesy smile. The grip on your hand tightened, and his eyes smiled to you.
You had continued walking through the street, until you got to the intersection, next to a bar. This bar was known for being popular among tourists, so it wasn’t weird to see various blonde heads hanging outside the establishment. This day in particular there where two Swedish looking guys, which as you approached stopped talking to stare at you.
“I must be dead because I see angels.” One said lowering his sunglasses.
“What a pretty lady you are honey!” The other one said smiling at you.
“Come here and we can share some drinks.” The first one added, raising his glass of alcohol.
You felt yourself redden. What the hell with those guys! Didn’t they saw that you were walking with someone hand in hand? Jungkook burst in before you could.
“Excuse me? Please repeat that.” He lowered his mouth cover, staring at them intensely. You could almost feel him puffing his chest like an Alfa dog.
The foreigners stared at him for what seemed for minutes, and then entered the bar. Kook started walking away, dragging you along, as he pushed his tongue into his inner cheek with his eyebrows knitted together. You felt your heart contract a little. He was jealous and you loved it.
Jungkook raised an eyebrow as he connected his eyes with yours. He was inquiring what was occurring with Dawon. Did you wanted to answer him?, no. First, even if you wanted to answer him, it was nearly impossible in that situation. Second, you didn’t need to excuse your actions to him after all of he had done.
Taehyung, who was sitting next to Jungkook noticed the situation and elbowed him, breaking his attention from you. You saw Namjoon shake lightly his head and Jin signaling Kook to stop.
Loud cheering made you loose focus over what was ocuring at BTS table. They where the fans shouting from the public areas of the theatre. You quickly turned around to face the JFX table, if the fans noticed what had been occurring between the three of you... you were done. The last thing you wanted was someone filming your expressions, which later would turn into gossip.
“I am Suho from EXO.” Suho, one of the MCs of the awards show greeted from the stage, making you turn your attention towards him. The opening presentation had now ended, and the MCs were snow standing on the stage in line.
“My name is Jimin.” Jimin greeted cutely from the stage, surprising you. You didn’t knew that he would be featured this year as an MC. He was wearing a fitted smoking with mismatched earrings that complimented his killer jawline.
“Welcome everyone to the Jildan Music Awards 2018!” Suho greeted as the lights on the screens along the theatre changed colors. Everyone started clapping, even J.P. who was sitting across you started whistling to Suho.
“This evening we would be counting with presentations from Exid,” Jimin continued as the crowd stopped clapping, however when he had raised his microphone to speak, armys started shouting which made him smile sweetely. As he mentioned Exid, they were shown live on the giant screens across the theatre, and the song they would be performing started playing.
Hani and Jeongwha were sitting next to each other, signaling to their face on the screen, laughing as they noticed they had been captured unknowingly.
“...Black Pink,” Jimin continued as they were consequently shown on the screen. Rose was waving to the camera while Jisoo winked cutely. You turned towards Black Pink’s table, which was next to BTS table, watching as a camera man recorded them closely.
“Oh! Y/N, your hair is tangled with your earring.” Dawon said behind you as you felt a hand gently touch your left ear. You felt Jungkooks gaze on you as you turned away from his direction to Dawon, however you caught the glimpse of a camera man approaching your table.
Wait a second. That meant that-
“..and with the special presentations of BTS and JFX!”. Suho ended elevating a hand on the direction of the biggest screen of the theatre. Even before he could mention the names of the groups the fangirls started shouting loudly.
Shit, shit, shit.
The screen showed both of the two tables, BTS’s and JFX’s, and a very shocked you sitting on JFX’s table. The crowd’s initial cheers suddenly started dying. If the fans had not noticed your presence before, now they did.
You couldn’t imagine of a worse view. You, Jungkook’s supposed girlfriend sitting on his rival group table, and even worse, Dawon, Jungkook’s specific rival immersed detangling your earring, as Jungkook stared at both of you, probably still mad.
You quickly touched Dawon’s arm just as he finished. He looked upwards, smiling at the screen, unobvious of the situation as well as the rest of JFX, which waved at the crowd.
You tried to smile, to try to play along with JFX and not worsen the situation, but the smile on your smile seemed as fake as Jungkook’s devotion to you during your relationship. As you looked around the area where the fans were sitting, you could distinguish a few faces why looked confused and even mad. It wasn’t your imagination right?
Even as you switched your focuses from the fans towards the rest of the tables from the idols and actors your could catch a few of them whispering between them while looking at you. In the end of the rift side you saw Hani from her table, frantically telling you calm down by moving her hands softly, she knew you so well that she already understood how you felt inside you.
This was like an horror movie, where everyone around you didn’t recognize what was occurring and you where alone suffering the judging stares of the public. You didn’t even wanted to turn around to see Jungkook’s expression, that little brat was probably using his baby victim face to gain the favour of the Army’s.
“Un, alright. The first category that we will be presenting is of best trot single of the year.” You heard Jimin say abruptly, just as if he had sensed the situation.
“Y/N, are you okay?” Dawon asked you in a low voice as he leaned towards you. You sighed, composing yourself.
“Dawon, I think all the fans have noticed that I was sitting with your group.” You whispered trying to maintain a calm face, as well as not make obvious to anyone on the seats around you that you were talking with him.
“Oh shit. The producers are going to get mad with us now, we were supposed to be a surprise.” Dawon said nervously. You almost wanted to facepalm yourself, did he really didn’t understand what you were referring to?.
“Dawon I think that the producers really do not care if we are seen together before, if not they wouldn’t have given me a seat next to you.”
“Oh, yes you are right. Sorry I’m just really nervous tonight, but then what do you mean of?” He smiled at you tilting his dead to one side.
“You know that me and Jung-“
Ding.
Ding , Ding, Ding, Ding.
Your cellphone started vibrating on your lap. You quickly mouthed Dawon to wait, as he shifted his attention towards the stage with a nod. Cellphones weren’t allowed at ceremony awards, because of the fans caught an idol looking towards his phone instead of the performance, trouble would rise.
You weren’t an idol, or had a manager that controlled your access to your phone, so you had kept it in your little purse. Bringing your body closer to the table so that people wouldn’t see you looking at your phone, you unblocked it.

I always knew that @Y/N was just seeing JK for his fame, and now that she found a perfect dog like Dawon she is going to look more fans from his group. Let’s make all of JFX fans aware of this bitch with #Y/NIsBehindYourBoys
Instagram
7_JiminiJamz sent you a private message:
Weren’t you dating Jungkook Y/N? You are such an opportunist slut.
You felt your body temperature drop. That were only the top notifications, you were sure if you swiped down you would find worse than that. You blocked you phone and quickly hided it in the folding of your skirt. You wanted to make it seem as you had never seen those notifications.
You knew that sooner or later the fans would find out, and their response would not be happy, but you had never imagined that it would be in this unfair way. You had secretly planned to inform the fans about your break up with Jungkook (of course after he acknowledged that you were done, which was meant to happen after both of you talked privately) in a press conference or in a video, where you could minimize the impact towards your public image, of course you wouldn’t tell the true reason, but it was better than the fans finding out due to an expected focusing where you seemed to be the one cheating.
‘Breathe Y/N, breathe.’ You told yourself as you felt your gut contract uncomfortably. The worst thing you could do was to be shown desperate or uncomfortable by the cameras, you could be marked as disrespectful or you knew what else.
“Wooo!” Hawk shouted clapping excitedly as the lights shut down and on the central screen of the theatre appeared the name of the new song of Jessi.
Jessi was standing with a striking pose on a platform that appeared from the floor, just as Hawk was motioning at her like the biggest fan boy ever. This was a great distraction for you, just what you needed to get away from the pressing ache you had on your gut.
The best dropped just as she started twerking and Hawk became mad. A guy that behaves like a bad boy.. but when he sees the girl he likes he is little boy, you couldn’t believe that non kpop idols even were afraid of him.
The camera a focused on him as he sang the fan chant not caring about anything in the world, he was living his life while the rest of JFX seemed ashamed of him. The fans around you erupted in screams due to his reaction. You guessed this was the going to bn the next IT reaction of the year, just as it had been Jungkook’s last year when he sat next to IU.
You smiled to yourself bitterly.
That hideous memory. That little shit. He had al-
A warm hand covered yours which had been fisted without you knowing, bringing you out of your nasty memories. Dawon was giving you the smallest smile ever, as he pointed at a very wild Hawk. It was just as if he had noticed you were having a bad time and he was trying to distract you. And it was working.
‘When they see me, they go
Ah so pretty, ah ah, ah so pretty, ah so pretty, ah so pretty
When they see me, they go
Ah so pretty, ah ah, ah so pretty’
Jessi now was signing her hit song Ssenunni as she began twerking madly. If you thought the first song that she performed was suggestive enough, this was at another level, and Hawk was loving it.
“Ah so pretty, ah ah, ah so pretty” Hawk sang along her, practically eating her with his eyes. He was already standing next to the table gaining most of the attention of the idols around him and Kyle, the leader of JFX was subtly trying to control him from his seat next to him, just as J.P. laughed hysterically along with Go Sun, the diva.
Your hand relaxed over the table, turning and gently locking fingers with the hand over you. A shadow passed over Dawon’s face, the owner of the hand, for a fraction of second before he blushed intensely, keeping his eyes plastered over he presentation, however you knew that it was because of you.
Fuck the fans and media. You were going to live the moment.
“I’m sorry, miss Y/N?” A respectful voice said behind you.
You detangled your hand from Dawon’a and placed it over your skirt. “Yes?”
“You should head towards the backstage, all of the candidates for.. most influential person on the internet” He read the last part from his note board.
“Yeah, sure.” You stood up carefully in the darkness, Jessi was now at almost the last part of the presentation. Dawon gave you his hand gentlemanly so that you could balance yourself standing up. The guy turned on his little flashlight, to guide you over the tables towards the backstage.
“I know you are going to win Y/N, I made everyone vote for you.” Dawon told you in a whisper as you started following the award’s staff guy.
“Let’s hope for the best.”
As you walked through the tables following the staff, you could not longer feel the insecurity you felt when you entered the stadium.
To be continued...

The Little Angel
Chastity
Tumblr media
--------------
Note from Moi,
Sorry for the wait, school has been busy, but I have a long weekend for thanksgiving, sooooooo
UPDATES!!!!!
--------------
Sam and Dean were on to their next case. They got a call from Jody with an interesting case. 4 people have gone missing, a witness saying they saw someone lift and SUV and that they glowed with some sort of blue fire light.
One of their first theories being that it was angels, because of the glowing light and that all the victims were church going people.
“I can give Ariel a call” Dean suggest, being she is the most reliable and not a douche angel they could call at the moment.
“Wait you know an actual angel and you have her on speed dial?” Jody questions watching as Dean whips out his phone.
“Hey Dean, what’s up?” Ariel answers her phone, she was on an angel case, just trying to round up her fellow fallen angels.
“Hey, we’re on a case, can angels do like a blue fire light type thing?”
“Ummm” Ariel thinks a little taken aback by the odd question, “no, no angel from any choir could do something like that, who is being targeted?” she asked.
“Church going people” Dean tells her.
“Well then it’s most certainly not an angel” Ariel pauses, “you want me to pop in, I’m almost done with family stuff”
Dean shrugs, “if ya can, we are just outside Sue Falls”
“Ok, bye Dean”
“Bye Ariel”.
Jody’s eyebrows are raised, in shock, “you just had a phone call with an angel”
Dean purses his lips and nods, “yup, and she might show up”
Their next move is to go the church all the vics attended. They got a meeting with the secretary of the church. Posing as potential members, the meeting started with a tour.
“Let’s get started shall we” Bonnie smiled brightly.
“I’m sorry i’m late” someone spoke suddenly, Ariel coming to stand with the boys.
“Oh, you arrrree?” Bonnie trails off not sure who Ariel is.
Dean and Sam stutter trying to think of an excuse, but Ariel has it covered, “I am his fiance” Ariel links her arm with a stunned Dean, smiling forcefully, trying to seem genuine.
“Oh, well Welcome, let’s get on with the tour then shall we” Bonnie smiles and leads them on.
After the tour Bonnie lead the trio to her office, “Shall we get you three registered?” she pulled out some clipboards.
“Well  ahh look, Bonnie, we loved the Church” Sam starts, “but we’ve heard that a few members have gone missing and to be honest it kinda scares us”.
Bonnie scans Dean and Ariel who both pull concerned looks about what Sam was saying.
“Let me assure you with our increased security Good Faith has never been safer” Bonnie tells them, “and those people who have gone missing, well they are front and center in our prayers”.
“What a relief” Dean speaks up, “you must have been close to them?”
Bonnie looks down, “well we do share the APU bond”.
“APU?” Ariel inquires.
“Our chastity group abstinence purifies us” Bonnie says with her folded hands and overly wide smile.
“Oh” Sam and Ariel chorus, while Dean pulls a look.
“Well maybe we could sit in on that, I mean if it’s ok, to see if it’s for us” Sam asks.
“If afraid its members only” Bonnie says still with a smile.
“Count us in” Sam makes a group decision, that Dean does not seem thrilled about.
“Oh! well I’ll be a squirrel in a skirt” Bonnie seems surprised but happy, “I’ll be back in a jif with the papers”, she taps her desk, than stands leaving the room.
That is when Dean speaks, unimpressed, “chastity group?”
“Well is all the members were in APU then maybe whatever took them is taking virgins”
Ariel grew interested, it was now definitely not angels, but she still wanted to learn what the heck was going on.
“What ya thinking dragons” Dean asks Sam, Ariel was definitely interested.
Bonnie came back and the conversation was cut off.
“Alrighty” she hands them each a clip board, “just sign there and your purification can begin”
“Purity pledge?” Sam asks.
“It’s a commitment to your virginity.
Ariel has to hold in a laugh, “What if you don’t have that to commit to...anymore..”.
Dean immediately looks at the angel in shock, Sam also gives her a side eye, not expecting her to well...not be a virgin.
“Oh” Bonnie’s cheer flickers, “ I see” but she perks back up, “well if you ask God to forgive your sins and take a vow of chastity then you’ll be born again.. you’ll be a virgin in his eyes”
Again Ariel finds her lips pulled tight trying not to giggle or make a comment.
“So hit the virginity do over button and all’s good with the man upstairs” Dean comments liking the sound of it all now.
Bonnie grows serious, “it isn’t a button, it’s more than a piece of paper it’s your vow to be a virgin until marriage” she then focuses on Dean and Ariel, “ which is why I’m assuming you are interested”
“Oh yes, of course” Dean and Ariel chorus trying to not sound sarcastic, but they still do.
“Let’s do this” Dean signs his name, Ariel and Dam following suit.
They hand the clipboards back over.
“Condragulations Sam, Dean Winchester and Ariel Smith you are all virgins”
“Daddy will be so proud” Ariel says under her breath, only Dean hears, and it amuses him more. Seeing as her father is God.
That afternoon they attend their first meeting. The circle was just woman, Dean and Sam being the only men.
“Good afternoon everyone, I’m Suzy” A blonde women in a green sweater leads the circle, “I’d thought we begin with a silent prayer for our missing friends”
Everyone lowers their heads respectfully. Ariel had never participated in a human prayer like this, so she copied them, but kept her light eyes watching in wonder.
Her eyes caught Dean, not following in the prayer, Sam caught him as well.
Sam cleared his throat, getting Dean’s attention. Dean sighs and dramatically drops his head like the others. Ariel rolls her eyes and actually closes her eyes.
“Amen” Suzy finishes up the silent moment, “now, would anyone like to share?”
A woman raises her hand immediately, “I wrote a new piece of verse”. Ariel notes that the group don’t seem impressed by the idea of the woman’s writing.
“It’s called sex is a racket and God’s ball is in your court-”
Suzy stops her, “and we would love to hear that Tami..Later”.
Tami sits down, disheartened.
“Why don’t we hear from our new friends” Suzy suggests, “Sam, what brought you here to reclaim your virginity?”.
Dean and Ariel look over to Sam, with their lips pulled tight in hidden smirks.
“Well” Sam is unsure, “it’s because..every woman I’ve ever had..relations with..hasn't ended..well”. “He ain’t lyin” Dean chuckles a little to himself, must be an inside joke.
“Thank you for being here Sam, stay strong stay pure” Suzy says and the rest of the circle chorus’ the last part.
“And you, Dean? What set you on the path away from sin?” the attention falls to Dean now. Dean pauses thinking, he glances over to Ariel, she gives him a look to answer.
“Ahh, hard to say exactly..” Dean pauses, “sex has always felt, I don’t know, good”
Ariel’s eyes widen and she watches the women around the room, not sure where Dean is going with this.
“Ya, really, really good” Dean continues, “But sometimes it just makes you feel bad” He looks at Ariel who he notices is starting at him, as are most of the women, waiting for what he is going to say.
“Ya know, you’re drunk, you shack up then it’s the whole morning thing. ‘Hey that was fun’, then adios...always the adios”
Ariel pipes in, “But no adios anymore, unless you ditch me on the big day”.
Dean glances over Ariel and nods, quirking a smile, Ariel felt the need to remind him they are on a case, pretending to be an engaged couple.
“Ya that’s why we are doing all this, but I mean what’s the big deal, I mean sure there’s the touching and the feeling..all of each other, my hands everywhere tracing every inch of her body”
The women begin to fidget in their seats, Ariel tries to resist, but Dean is still not done with his little sex talk.
“The two of us moving together, pressing and pulling and grinding...then you hit that sweet spot and everything just builds and builds until it all just ‘boom’” he makes an exploding noise, Ariel clamping her hand down on his knee in the same moment cutting it off.
Dean looks her over and then looks over the very hot and bothered looking women, he clears his throat realizing what happened, “ya uhh the whole thing was just a little too ahh” Dean tried to wrap it up but Ariel picked it up for him.
“What Dean is trying to say is one night stands can be tricky, but when you find the one, sometimes you want a clean slate..on everything….that. Is.whhyy we came here”.
Somehow the meeting continued after that whole mess.
After the hour was up they began to put the chairs away. Ariel was off helping clean up, Dean and Sam stood awkwardly as women kept glancing over at Dean.
Ariel came up to them after she finished helping out chairs away, “listen I have to pop back in to Angel duties for a bit, but I’m coming back, I want to know what the heck is going on here” Ariel tells them.
Sam nods, “ya that's fine”.
Dean purses his lips and smiles nodding that it’s ok. Ariel turns on her heel, but immediately turns back to Dean and places a hand on his bicep, leaning up to his ear. Sam’s eyebrows raises as he watches, Dean just as surprised and confused.
“Just so you know, I think I had all the women have told me I’m a lucky girl” Ariel pulls away and Dean still looks a little confused, “I think it had to do with that hot and heavy speech of yours” she spoke so Sam heard as well. She waved over her shoulder and left the room. Dean stood blank for a moment, but pieced it together and smirk, smiling proudly. Sam slapped his arm and shook his head, both getting back to the case.
Sam went back to the motel room, where Jody was doing some research. Dean had managed to get to Suzy’s house and he was planning a different kind of research.
Just like the others who did ‘research’ Dean and Suzy ended up trapped somewhere with the other missing people, who broke their vows. Jody and Sam discovered it was the goddess Vesta and she happened to be Bonnie. Jody and Sam of course went to save Dean and the others, but of course they ran into some trouble. Bonnie, or the Goddess, captured Jody and had her tied down. Jody managed to save herself really but she got stabbed in the process. The Winchesters and her set people free. They were now outside, Sam and Dean wanted to call an ambulance for Jody, but something better popped up.
Ariel flutters onto the scene, gasping at the wounded Jody, who is gasping right back, cause she’s seeing an actual angel.
“I am so sorry I didn’t get back sooner” Ariel has fauns over the wounded Jody, “do you want me to heal it?” Ariel scrunches her brows, meeting the dazzled woman's eyes.
“Y..y you can do that?” Jody stutters.
Ariel nods happily and reaches a hand up places two gentle fingers on Jody’s forehead. A flash of light and a jolt, and Jody is good as new, marveling at her completely healed body.
“Thank you” Jody says.
Ariel smiles, “no problem, it’s lovely to meet you by the way”.
“You too” Jody chuckles nervously, still marveled that Ariel, the Archangel Ariel, who had a stained glass window in the church she went to, was in front of her.
“We ought to get goin’ ” Dean speaks up.
Jody nods and watches as the Winchesters and their angel friend leave.
In the car, before Ariel decided it was time for angel duties she punched Dean’s arm.
Dean swerved and rubbed his arm in shock, “what the hell was that for?!”
She leaned over the seat, “for cheating on me” she giggled and it sent chills down Dean spine, “see ya around” she pecked Dean’s cheek then poofed away.

Love Heals the Soul (Part 10) - The Concert (Jensen POV)
Tumblr media
Summary: The concert gets interesting…From Jensen’s POV
Masterlist
Pairing: Jensen x reader, Briana, Jared
Word Count: 1428
Warnings: Nervousness with being in front of people, fluff, minor swearing, nothing else, unless I missed something
A/N: Kind of nervous for this one. I wasn’t sure that I wanted to rewrite the last chapter from Jensen’s POV, but I wanted some of the parts, and didn’t want to put it in the next chapter topic...so here we are. Also, I should have lots of time to write this week!! I’m excited. :D Feedback is always welcome! Italicized are lyrics, POV thoughts or text conversations; you can tell by the context.
Jensen’s POV
Jared and I were sitting and hanging out in the green room during the concert, shooting the shit, having a drink; talking about the events of the day, lunch, the kiss and even dinner. I didn’t tell him about the scars that I saw on her arms during lunch. Even though Jared and I talked about everything, I couldn’t do that to Y/N, not until I knew she was comfortable talking to me first.
We saw Y/N walking over without Briana, and I watched as she took a seat in one of the chairs next to the couch Jared and I were on thinking to myself that there was more than enough room, a little sad that she didn’t share the space. As Y/N sat, Briana came over with a couple of drinks and handed one to her, “One whiskey coke, light on the coke,” she stated.
Y/N took a generous drink, like she was nervous about something, needed the alcohol to help relax her a little. Wow, whiskey coke, my kind of girl. I hope Y/N is ok though, she seems nervous, but she knows all of us back here. Would it be too much to go over and try to talk to her? I don’t want to add to the stress, if that’s the case.
“Earth to Jen…hellooo…”, Jared waved his hand in my face bringing me back to reality. “Yeah, I totally agree with that,” I said, hoping that was an acceptable answer. Jared chuckled, “Yeah buddy, whatever you say.” We couldn’t continue the conversation further since Rob announced my cue to go out on stage, still having no idea what I was singing tonight. “Well I guess that’s my cue, wish me luck,” chancing a wink towards Y/N, accidentally making her blush.
The crowd was insanely loud as I got to the stage, making it difficult to hear Rob as he came over to me. “Hey man, so how about a new song tonight?” Rob asked, almost nervous about I would say. Laughing, I nudged him on, “Sure Rob, whatchya thinking?”
“Do you know the song ‘Brother’, Needtobreathe, album version,” he asked. All I had to do was smile, telling him I knew the words. What a coincidence. There’s no way that Y/N would have been involved in this, Briana maybe, but I’m certainly not upset, it’s been in my head for the last two weeks.
I went and high fived Billy then started the introduction for the song. “What’s up Vancouver? We are going to be trying something new. I had heard this song before but just recently reintroduced to it by a friend of mine. It’s a great song that I know y’all will enjoy, one that also fits with the basis of our show.”
With that, the music stared playing and all I could think about was that night at the café, listening to Y/N sing this very song. It brought a huge smile to my face. What I would give to listen to her sing again. I started into the song, the words hitting home, thinking about Sam and Dean, and how much everything in the song spoke directly to the show.
As I was in the second chorus, the crowd started cheering, which is when I saw Briana coming out to help Rob with backup vocals. I gave her a smile and kept singing, only to realize a second later that Y/N was out there with her. I smiled and winked at her, since that’s all I could do while in the middle of singing, but dropped the line I was on, trying to recover as quickly as possible. We continued the song, noticing at one point that Y/N sang some of the vocals that Bri and Rob weren’t. She’s getting comfortable, that’s good! Suddenly excited by the thought.
The song came to a close, and I thanked everyone on stage, even giving Y/N a quick kiss on the cheek and a hug. We were filing off the stage when I heard Rob pull a classic move, “Hey Jensen, how about one more song?” eliciting more applause from the crowd, and giving me a half-cocked idea. God I hope Y/N doesn’t hate me for what I’m about to do. “Sure Robby, but only if I can have one of my new friends join me,” turning to Y/N hoping that I didn’t just scare her off.
After some convincing, I walked her over to Rob who was a little surprised, but after working countless conventions with us, he was pretty much used to anything that was thrown at him. “Hey Y/N! Singing with us tonight, huh?”
“Uhh, yeah, I guess I am, which I totally wasn’t expecting so I’m kind of freaking out here,” she started rambling, I didn’t want her to hate what was about to happen and thankfully Rob stepped in, “Well, that being the case, we can play anything that you’re comfortable singing, sound good?” She smiled timidly, thinking for a quick second, “’Have a Little Faith in Me’, Briana’s cover, is that ok?” I looked to Rob in agreement and he pulled Jason out to help.
The music was starting and I could tell she was having a hard time keeping it together. I gently pulled her to me,  “Y/N, just look at me, forget everyone else; It’s just us and the music, and you can hold my hand the entire time if you want to,” getting a small nod out of her.
The first verse was nearing its end and I had to make sure she was still with me, so I gently squeezed her hand. She smiled, and started singing, surprising me and probably everyone in the room. Her voice was that of an angel, scared, but so sweet. I could tell the longer she was up there the more comfortable she was getting, more power coming out behind the words. I can’t help but wonder if this song means a little more than everyone sees?
Y/N and I sang in perfect sync with each other, something that can sometimes be difficult when two people have never performed together; but she was good. I could listen to her for hours, and wished that I got the chance sometime. The song was ending, Y/N finishing the last line and the crowd went absolutely wild, I’ve never seen them go this crazy for any one of us cast members; there was something special about Y/N, and I loved seeing that energy around her.
A tear slipped down Y/N’s cheek, but she wasn’t sad, she was smiling, I’m sure the emotions were overwhelming her. I reached up and wiped it away, needing to hug her, which she welcomed. I spoke quietly in her ear, a miracle she heard it over the noise, “That was perfect. You were perfect, and I am so proud of you…and I’m sorry for this…” I pulled back and touched her cheek softly, placing a gentle kiss on her lips. It was only a couple of small kisses; I didn’t want to over do it in front of so many people. When I pulled away, I was nervous. Oh God, this is it. She hates me. I shouldn’t have crossed that line, not in front of all of these people… She spoke, almost cutting off my thoughts, “You’re forgiven,” with the biggest smile I have seen on her face all weekend, the kind of smile that was showing in her eyes as well.
I took her hand and we go backstage and she no sooner bolts over to Briana and engulfs her in a hug. I couldn’t do anything but stand there and relish in the sight. Jared came over to give his job well done bit, “Dude, that was amazing, both songs, but especially the second. I would have never have guessed Y/N to go from corner café stage to a room full of screaming fans in two weeks. She must really like you,” he quipped, giving me a pat on the back. I laughed, when I saw Y/N turn towards me, she started walking over, only to get stopped by Jared. I couldn’t quite hear what was exchanged, but it looked comforting to her, which I’m sure she needed right now.
When she reached me, I slid my arm around here waist, “What do you say we get out of her, go get you that drink you said you’d let me buy?”
“I say that sounds like an excellent idea,” Y/N responded, her beautiful smile still on her face.

Rent Live Recap: A Stellar Show Despite Injuries and Pre-Taped Controversy
Rent is one of the most beloved musicals of all time. For us -- TV Guide writers Megan Vick and Lindsay MacDonald -- the 2005 movie was our intro to loving musical theater. We then sought out live theater productions and began a more than decade long love affair with the world of Broadway (we also get why people hate the Rent movie, but that's another story).
So, when Fox announced that Rent would be on its live musical event agenda, we were both excited and terrified that this piece of art could become Twitter fodder instead of a celebration of the show. The casting didn't do much to alleviate those fears with quite a few wildcards in the mix. It wasn't until we saw the dress rehearsal on Saturday, Jan. 26 that we saw what an impressive job Fox, this cast and crew had managed to pull off.
The dress rehearsal was also where star Brennin Hunt rolled his ankle during the final commercial break, forcing production to try and make their way through the closing numbers with Roger remaining stationary on the apartment table. That dress rehearsal ended up being most of what fans saw watching from home on Sunday, so the roadcast wasn't really live, except for the last act where the Fox folks were ultimately joined by the original cast of Rent to close out the show. We, as two die-hard Rentheads, recapped the show below.
We'll Pay Next Year's Rent with Jordan Fisher's Star Power
Lindsay: I appreciate everything that Jordan Fisher does and have since I covered his season of Dancing with the Stars. He can sing. He can dance. He's adorable. Let's put him in everything.
Megan: I heard a rumor that Ben Platt was offered the role of Mark in this production and to be honest, I kind of held it against Jordan that he wasn't Ben. That was a mistake, and I am making a formal apology right now. This kid is going places. Additionally, I'd like to say that I've never been very invested in production design Emmy awards, but if Rent does not win for this immaculate setup, it will be a travesty. This set is SO freakin' cool.

Hark the Herald Angel... Dances Really Well!
Megan: Okay, the part of Angel requires so much and in 2019 you can't just ask anyone to put on a great outfit and wig and call it a day. I think that Valentina has the right spirit for Angel -- sweet and sassy. I mean, those dance moves are killer and I feel like she's the guardian this group has been looking for. However, vocally...
Lindsay: Vocally she's just not as strong as we'd all hoped. It's hard to out-sing a live audience who knows all the words and is singing along with you, so I can excuse most of it on a combination of nerves and noise. You're right, though, that the spirit of the character (and hell yes, those dance moves) are technically speaking more important to the show than Angel's vocals, so at least Valentina's got that in her corner. Just stand by for, "I'll Cover You."
Tango Maureen Felt More Like a Waltz
Lindsay: You know who did not disappoint here? Jordan Fisher. While Brennin gets my love for recreating a Roger-clone worthy of the original Broadway show, Jordan Fisher has stolen my heart with this totally new and unique version of Mark. His Mark is more whimsical and playful thanks to Jordan's natural charisma, and that charming little grin of his saved a number that would have otherwise been kind of a "meh."
Megan: Jordan is the MVP of this production I think, but there's someone who didn't hold up their end here. I love Kiersey Clemons. She sang her heart out in one of my favorite movies last year, Hearts Beat Loud, but this felt shockingly off-kilter. The thing about Joanne is that she's a powerhouse voice. If she's taking charge of Mark in this scene then she needed to own it, but it felt like she got overcome with nerves. She can do better, I know she can.
Rent Live Actor Brennin Hunt Injured During Rehearsal
Tinashe Can Take Us Out Anytime
Megan: Girl. GIRL! "Out Tonight" is my favorite song in the whole show and it is so much more challenging than people think. You have to have a serious range to hit those high notes and dance like Mimi does. Many have tried and failed to pull this number off, but Tinashe showed that she has some real star power here. It was so amazing in person, but the sound mixing during the broadcast made her sound a little off. This was the moment where she turned me into a fan, though.
Lindsay: Was it sound mixing or just her dancing too hard? I agree that the song is super difficult and she danced her ass off, so I'm willing to forgive a few vocal missteps.
Megan: Fine, but then she kills it during, "Another Day." She sings Brennin under the table.
Lindsay: Look, I'm going to go to my death defending Brennin Hunt and not just because this poor sweet thing broke his foot in the name of art. I have literally never heard someone who sounds so much like Adam Pascal's Roger in my life, and in a show where some other really drastic changes were made, anything that harkens back to the original is appreciated. Plus, he's just got that raspy bad-boy thing DOWN.
I'll Cover You(r Ears)
Lindsay: Music nerds will notice that they appear to have fiddled with the arrangement of this song to give Collins (Brandon Victor Dixon) some of the difficult harmonizing work and Angel the easier to achieve melodies when it really should have been the other way around. It's not something I'm going to get particular about though since the stronger vocalist taking the more challenging notes is just good sense.
Megan: Thank you for this education because all I had was, "Oh wow, this is... not great." There's no amount of sashaying to make a song like this work if you can't hit those notes. I've seen worse, but this is definitely not a "best of" moment of the show.
Over the Moon for Some Hudgens
Megan: When people say they were nervous about this cast, they are actually saying they were nervous about Vanessa Hudgens because of that infamous Hollywood Bowl performance of Rent, in which she played Mimi. It's been years since then, but could she really be weird and powerful enough to pull off Maureen? Yes folks, yes she could. As soon as she hit that extended note in "Over the Moon," my fears about Hudgens being able to rock this vanished. I have never been so glad to be wrong!
Lindsay: The Hollywood Bowl performance still feels too soon to bring up. Naturally, seeing her take on an arguably more difficult part in the same musical was daunting. Living up to Idina Menzel's legacy is a pretty tall freaking order after all. And then she just SHOWED UP! I've also never been so happy to be proven wrong about my own expectations because Vanessa killed every single moment of "Over the Moon" from the vocals to the acting to the mooing. Bow down to your queen, peasants.
La Vie Bo--What?!
Megan: I've had 24 hours to process this and now a clear view of the choreography and I still can't help being offended by this version of "La Vie Boheme." There are two Rent tracks you can't mess with and they are this and "Seasons of Love." I understand some lyrics weren't going to make it due to broadcast standards (like Benny saying puke instead of piss), but there were other changes made that don't make sense. Where was the order sequence? Is it really "La Vie Boheme" if you don't get to yell "WINE AND BEER!"? The theater fans at home had to be so confused during a number we were all looking forward to and I'm not okay.
We Ranked Every TV Musical Event, Because of Course We Did
Seasons of Who Are These People
Lindsay: Aside from Keala Settle hitting that incredible note in the final run, "Seasons of Love" was bullsh--.
Megan: Wow. I said there are only two songs you can't mess with and they did it with both? They gave iconic parts to chorus members. This is the prime sing-a-long part of the musical and I am just so frustrated with how both "Seasons of Love" and "La Vie Boheme" came out. They are too iconic to be treated like this.
Take Me, Take Me, Baby!
Megan: THAT IS THE KIERSEY I CAME TO SEE! I told you that she was capable and that's the kind of electricity I wanted. "Take Me or Leave Me" is my second favorite so I am so glad it came together like that. And I'll say it again, Hudgens is owning every minute she is on the stage.
Contact High?
Lindsay: I'm torn between being glad that they left it in (the movie removed the song completely) and being just confused about why they chose to do... that. I get that they couldn't get away with the usual bump and grind that number calls for but it just didn't totally work for me. Strangely enough, it was the only time I thought Valentina's vocals were on solid ground
Megan: I know there are a lot of Rent purists who were angry that "Contact" was left out of the film, so I give Foxcredit for going there and including it, but I also didn't need it? It's interesting but it just feels like such a disconnect from actually losing Angel, which is a pivotal moment in the entire show. It takes an extra beat to get that sadness. I would have preferred a full "La Vie Boheme" than what they did here.
Just Because You Love Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Doesn't Mean It Needs a Movie
We're Not Crying, You're Crying. Just Kidding, We're All Crying
Megan: Brandon was one of the people I was most looking forward to seeing in this production, knowing that he took over for Leslie Odom Jr. as Aaron Burr in Hamilton. I knew he had to have pipes, but the "I'll Cover You (Reprise)" is by far his shining moment in the show. It's the first time I've been misty-eyed all show. Absolutely breathtaking.
Lindsay: Honestly, I forgive this show everything after that knockout performance. For the most part, Collins was consistently good, but not a showstopper or scene-stealer. That changed real quick when he added in the soul-crushing pain of losing Angel. Mad props to Keala for the assist.
What You Own Is Our Hearts
Lindsay: Guys. GUYS. "What You Own" is totally the turning point for the final act, and I cannot stress how important it is to nail it. And holy cow this one did! This version had all the bells and whistles including crowd surfing, ladders, and possibly one broken foot. Poor Brennin. Never the less, the energy in the room was nearly as pitch perfect as the voices of the two heroes who shall forever be known as Brennin "Do The Damn Thing" Hunt and Jordan "Sweet Baby Angel" Fisher.
We Should Tell You, Brennin's Injury Is Really Unfortunate
Megan: Ugh, this poor guy. Look at that cast! I know it's really sad that this cast didn't get to put on their final show as planned, but I also can't help snort laughing that they kept a close up of Roger yelling, "NO!" when Maureen and Joanne bring Mimi in from the cold... and then he doesn't move to get her. I totally get that Brennin couldn't get up, but oh my god, it's awkward watching him stay on the table instead of doing anything to help bring her in. That being said, he sang for his life in "Your Eyes." Damn, boy.
Lindsay: He'd taken a couples stumbles in the taped show, but I've got to say, he really redeemed himself with this. There were definitely some parts in the middle where he was overacting, but I got back on the bandwagon after that serenade.
2018-2019 TV Scorecard: Which Shows Are Canceled? Which Are Renewed?
OMfghA!R%* THE ORIGINAL CAST. IT'S THE ORIGINAL CAST OF RENT ALL TOGETHER!!!
Megan: Okay, I can't even pretend to be composed enough to come up with a witty section headline for this. We just bore witness to the original cast of Rent reuniting all on one stage and it was absolutely beautiful. I cried when we saw them do it at the dress rehearsal and it's just as magical on screen. Something about that just felt holy. Idina Menzel will forever be queen.
Lindsay: Once the original Broadway cast started posting photos from the set of Rent everyone knew this was coming, but it was still just so magical to watch that wall lift up to reveal the faces and voices we've loved for over 20 years singing that epic final number. The only thing that made it even better was Adam Pascal leaving the herd to go hang out with poor, immobilized Brennin. Thank you for watching that miracle take place with us, and remember to always measure your lives in love.
