The X-Files 30th Anniversary

Day 7: 30th Anniversary Extravaganza

Today, I'm thanking The X-Files community for bringing me across a wonderful show-- its amazing cast and writers and fans-- and inspiring me to get back on my own creative hobbyhorse.

My Thanks

Being a part of a collective who want to celebrate this show and others' creative endeavors with heartfelt good wishes has been exciting, fun... and humbling.

My special thanks to the many people who welcomed me with open arms and contribute to this space, even if it's "simply" (but it's never just anything, is it?) answering asks or reblogging or even liking a random post that passed from one blog to another.

There are too many to list, so I'll just chat about my most remembered moments:

@baronessblixen, for being so kind and encouraging that you drew me out of the anon shadows; for liking what I create; for giving me a logical mind to bounce my ideas off of in asks; and for inadvertently teaching me the joy of appreciating animal videos (and convincing me, along with Vavie, to watch Return to Me.)

My Projects

While The X-Files turned 30, my fandom experience turned (a little over) a year old! Wow, time does fly when you're... speed typing out multiple essays worth of fic rec lists, meta analyses, and personality typing posts (or even wrangling a video editor, compressor, and uncooperative Tumblr site to upload an amv.)

Something’s waving in front of his face. How long has it been waving? Obviously not for very long if he is only noticing it now.

Five swats the hand away with a growl.

“What?”

Klaus’ face stares down at him, contorting as his eyebrows relax, almost in slow motion. He is much too close, every crease line, every smudge, every stray hair visible in the dingy lighting.

“—was that?” Klaus asks, Five missing the first part. Five squints, attempting to decipher his words.

Something comes hurtling towards his forehead, and with a small burst of adrenaline Five manages to partially block it, heart hammering in his chest. He kicks out, nicking something big, and scrambles away before it can retaliate.

“I—hey!” Klaus exclaims.

Five blinks his eyes. Refocuses.

Wait.

It’s just Klaus.

“—trying to check your temperature,” Klaus says. Five blinks again. Something is bashing into his skull like a particularly murderous jackhammer, the constant pounding squeezing his eyes into lemon juice and making his face warm. “Five?”

“I’m fine,” he grits out, clenching his teeth, as if that will do anything to stop the pain.

Five gathers the strength to glare at Klaus.

“Go away.”

Five starts lifting himself out of the armchair, moving away from Klaus. Standing up brings a new wave of dizziness, but one that is easier to ignore. What he can’t ignore is the ceaseless stabbing that has only grown more erratic, harsher and more present then ever.

“Woah, woah, hey, where are—”

Five ignores him, stepping forward, focusing on staying upright.

The first step is like his soul has ascended from his body, like his limbs are marshmallows that he can puppeteer from above. His limbs are stuffed with static, stuffed with cotton, like a balloon without a weight attached.

He takes another step, and something pins him, grabbing his arm. Five spins around, reaction time lagging.

He’s getting slower.

That probably isn’t good.

14 - a song whose lyrics knock you unconscious

ok maybe this is cheating but lets go with a musical - "See I'm Smiling" from The Last Five Years. im not sure how much context is necessary but essentially, Cathy is singing to her husband Jamie as their relationship is falling apart and god, the denial and insecurity that seeps through is exactly how i would talk. the "see you're laughing, and im smiling.... we're doing fine" and the "look whatever, if you have to, then you have to, so whatever. its alright" and then that sudden snap and explosion of emotions (that single "fucking" that she slips in is so. satisfying.) - gosh the ending. this song. this entire musical. whoof.

21 - a song about friends

i gotta go with the first song i thought of - "With a Little Help From My Friends" by the Beatles. 🥰

26 - a song to overthrow the government to

the fun irony if i could overthrow the government to "This is Asian America" by Jason Chu lol

whoop im usually bad at imagining things as movies (see prev ask) but! just our luck, ive thought about The Killing Kind by Marianas Trench so much recently for this lovely ask that its pretty much a movie in my head adjksjaja

B - A pairing–platonic, romantic or sexual–that you initially didn’t consider, but someone changed your mind.

Five and Allison. I had never really considered Five and Allison and what they would be like when they interact, but I read a few fics/saw a few posts about their dynamic, and I love it. They honestly need to interact way more.

M - Name a character that you’d like to have for a friend.

Nebula, from Marvel. She's amazing and deserves far more than she's gotten. Also, literally everyone she has ever been close to has died. (She never had any friends. When she finally reached out to her sister to try to be closer, her sister died. She got stuck with Tony and appeared to become friends with him, but then bam. Tony died.) She’s always so alone. I think she needs a friend. So I would be very happy to be that friend for her. Also, she is just really cool.

R - Which friendship/platonic relationship is your favorite in fandom?

That's a tough choice. I have so many. Umm, probably Klaus and Five? I love the sheer level of chaos they can create when they team up. Out of everyone, they are can be the most out there with the things that they do, and it is beautiful.

W - A trope which you are virtually certain to hate in any fandom.

Oh, this one's easy. Vore. I can't stand vore at all. I've only run across it in one fandom, though, so it isn't too hard to avoid. And usually it's clearly tagged, too.
