What is the method of layering clay and then carving out designs in the different coloured clay? I find it really interesting, tbh

Where does the process start? Do you like, start with a sketch? Or with like an “I want to make a cute creature.” Sorta vibe?

And uh, what kinds of glaze do you use? Any tips?

Hey, @drgalacticcandy! This ask (which please, never apologize for sending an ask! I love them!! Also thank you for your kind words about my work!) came at a perfect time because your first Q is answered by another ask I just responded to in great depth!

The technique where I carve out designs is called sgraffito & I just wrote a small novella about the technique here!

In terms of the creative process, it depends on the creature! Almost all of them need some sort of photo-reference at some point, especially the ones I want to look more like an actual creature that exists (eg. my bird ladies, the pod guys).

For things like the sphinxes and the ungulates, I did peek at some photo reference at the very start (looked at some cats for sphinx anatomy & lots of musk oxen & goats for the ungulates), but am now just going off of what's goopin' around in my brain. I do sometimes still do sketches for the designs I make a lot, especially when I want to do a new body shape, eg. this flying guy.

I did quite a few sketches for the Puffin BirdLady because I'd hardly even drawn puffins before, let alone sculpted one, but other birds I'm more familiar with (loons, ravens/crows) I just keep some photo ref up on my laptop in case I need to check a detail & go straight to sculpting.

Some of the simpler beasts I just go ahead and sculpt without any drawings, eg. the snats/slats (snailcats/slugcats) & the owlbears (tho I did look at a bunch of owl-face photo ref to inspire their patterns!):

I do find sketching especially useful for creatures that require some new engineering, eg. the sphinx dishes or fishbutts in new positions, as doing the drawings helps me work out how the various bits will attach together or what issues I might come up against while trying to sculpt a new pose.

And glazes...whew! I'm still SUCH a glaze newbie & really don't know anything about them yet. My usual tendency when encountering a new art adventure is to just dive in headfirst with minimal research and GO, which is mayyyyybe not the best with glazes??

And yet I still just see a pretty glaze and go OH HI I AM BUYING U NOW (with one caveat -- I always read the description and if it's described as a runny/difficult to use glaze I drop it and run because my sculptures are wee and I don't want any glaze floods in the kiln!).

I'm also lucky to have a really great kiln tech in my friend who fires my stuff who does actually know more about the chemistry of glazes, so sometimes I pass my flights of fancy by her to make sure I'm not doing anything silly. In terms of glaze brands, I love Amaco & Coyote, both of whom make plenty of beautiful glazes that are also easy to use.

For my sgraffito work, when I'm not glazing with clear glaze I put a variety of colours of celadon glaze overtop (most of mine are Coytoe brand). Celadons are translucent, so patterns will show through them - you can also do designs in underglaze and put a celadon glaze overtop & get some neat effects - below are some examples of celadons over sgraffito...

I know the glaze portion of this answer wasn't the most helpful, but there are definitely lots of forums & websites that contain loads of great info about all the alchemical intricacies of glazes! If you can befriend some potters IRL, that can also be an amazing resource for learning.

I’m loving all the tags and comments but don’t have time/spell slots to respond to all of them individually so: An FAQ!

Q: Why are you like this?

A: It is simply my nature.

Q: What do you mean you’re “cursed”?

A: I’ve got a chronic illness (ME/CFS my beloathed) that means I am largely bedbound and struggle to stand, read, write, talk, and think. Real fun! I call it my curse because that makes it sound exciting and fantastical instead of just depressing. I used to do a ton of different crafts, but since I got sick I had to stop most of them since they take too much mental and/or physical effort. But my tiny triangles are easy and modular and don’t require a functional brain. This is why the Mob vest is entirely handsewn--I can’t sit up long enough to use a sewing machine, but I can handle a needle and thread! Even on my worst days, I can usually baste a handful of paper pieces or sew a rosette or two. It helps a lot to have a project I’m consistently capable of working on.

And it means a lot to me that all of you are so excited about it! When you can’t leave the house and are often too tired to carry on a conversation, it can get pretty lonely. Reading all of your tags and encouragement has really brightened up my December. Thank you!

D: Death Spot | What is their most ticklish spot?

I know most of the Genshin tickle community has decided that Lyney's worst spot are his underarms, but I'm going to be bold and different and daring and special today and say that his thighs are his death spot. The real purpose of those garters are so that you can hold his leg still when he tries to pull away as you sink your fingers into his thighs through his stockings that provide no protection at all. It's like this outfit was specifically designed for its wearer to be wrecked~

Q: Question | Their response to the question ‘are you ticklish’?

Lyney is a stage performer; he's good at keeping his facial expression under control in front of people. However, on the inside, he's actually panicking because why do they want to know? And he'll answer the question just fine, even going so far as to admitting it with a smile, but if you watch him, you can slowly see his face turn red and if you ask him about the blush, he just tries to play it off as some issues with his makeup from backstage.

U: Unusual | Do they have some unusual tickle spots? Where?

The little areas of skin under his garters aslkdfj like I think someone wiggling a single finger under there gets him good and make him kick his leggies

Ummm also I think his hands would be delicate because he'd need to be quick with them to pull off his magic tricks and I think even just holding his hands would get him to giggle and it's actually something he's really embarrassed about because like imagine him doing magic tricks with feathers asdlkfj the DANGER they would pose

In the language Ts' Íts' àsh is the full English's alphabet used or is it only the sounds provided to make words? I would love to learn this to the fullest of my extent but the post is somewhat difficult to follow and learn.

I think I might be able to help with some terminology and to clear up some assumptions.

First, there are two levels of representation for the language. One is the orthography. The orthography are the unique characters that are used to spell the language that look like this:

For the actors, we have a romanization system. This system uses the Roman alphabet (the one we use for English) so actors know how to pronounce the language without having to learn anything extra (like how to read all that above).

The writing system for Ts'íts'àsh is complex and it doesn't line up neatly with its pronunciation. You can learn how to use it (check out the full system here), but it's probably best to just figure out how to spell each word you want, and then learn the spellings for the various grammar bits. The writing system was created for the language. Just like there's no equivalent of "q" in Japanese, there's absolutely no relationship between the Ts'íts'àsh writng system and the Roman alphabet. There is no "version" of "q" or "x" or "j" in the Ts'íts'àsh writing system.

The romanization is fairly manageable. There's just the consonants needed for the language (p, b, t, d, t', k, k', f, s, sh, kh, r), the vowels (a, e, i, o, u), and the acute, grave, and circumflex accents for tone (á, à, â). There's no need for any other letters to spell everything you need to in Ts'íts'àsh.

So really all you should bother with is learning the sound system and how each thing is spelled. It's not difficult, as almost every symbol is identical to its IPA equivalent, and the digraphs are fairly explicable.

If that doesn't help, maybe this will help you formulate a more specific question. Either way, thanks for the ask!

Summary: Yourself, Tom, Owen Wilson and the rest of the Loki cast have to be on stage for a Q&A to promote the second season. However you have disappeared some time before needing to be on stage and you made Tom worry about you in the process. Of course you showed up eventually and had to make an entrance with an outfit change. Although after a successful Q&A, along with Tom announcing you're a couple, he grabs your hand and guides you to an empty room so he can have his way with you after all that teasing with your low cut dress.

Tom sighed heavily. There was just ten minutes to go before you, Tom and the rest of the main Loki cast needed to be on stage for the season 2 Q&A, but you were nowhere in sight. All Tom could do was wait in the green room for you with the others. He knows you're in the building because you came in together, you said you would be a couple of minutes, yet it was much longer than two minutes already. He was constantly checking his watch for the time and checking his phone in case you had replied to his text.

"Nothing." Tom muttered to himself whilst checking his phone for the thousandth time. You'd gone completely silent on him.

"She'll be here, don't worry." Owen said, having caught Tom talking to himself as they sat next to each other.

"Yeah, you're right." Tom agreed, pocketing his phone and putting on a small smile.

However it wasn't long before Tom, Owen and the others were then being shown to the left stage wing where they had to wait for the cue to go on stage. Along the way Tom hoped you would be there waiting by the time he reached the wing himself. However when they arrived at the left stage wing you weren't there as he had hoped, so he asked for someone to go look for you.

"Where are you, darling? I'm worried." Tom quickly sent you the text, seeing as you never replied to his last one, then he was last to be handed a mic before going on stage.

Unfortunately it became too late. The crowds were clapping and cheering as soon as Tom heard the introductions start. He glanced towards the corridor they just came down, yet you still weren't coming, so he decided he just had to go on head with the others without you. He took a deep breath before he took the walk out onto the stage with the mic in hand. The crowds roared with excitement as soon as they saw his face. He politely waved and smiled at them on his way towards centre stage. Before Tom sat down on the couch he greeted the lady who was hosting with a friendly 'hello', then gave her a kiss to each of her cheeks, lastly he unbuttoned his suit jacket.

"It's good to have you all here, but where is Y/N?" The host asked into her mic, once they got comfortable on the couch and the crowds had settled down.

"I have no idea. She was here...." Tom began to say into his own mic before the crowds went crazy again as you strutted out on stage with a mic too, waving and smiling at the crowds just as he had done. Your entrance caused them all to twist sideways to see you, yet Tom's jaw slackened quite loosely, lucky he caught himself before he let it drop completely.

Clearly since arriving at the venue and you disappearing you had changed your outfit. Instead of the comfy casual jumper and jeans you had on to start with, now you walked out in a flora floaty floor length dress, but you kept your makeup and hair the same. Also the dress was a little bit low cut, not overly, but enough to catch Tom's eye as you walked out. As soon as you were centre stage you greeted the host with a 'hi' and a hug, then you turned to the others one at a time to greet them. Tom was last as he stood up abandoning the mic on the couch, then you gave him a hug before both of you sat down close together with mics in hand.

The host went on to talk to everyone about Loki both season 1 and 2, or at the very least you said what you were allowed to without spoiling the new season. Everything seemed to be going well as each of you talked about how you enjoyed working on the show, with each other and the crew. Of course Tom classically used tennis analogies, throwing in Shakespeare references, he even brought back his analogy about Loki being like both the light and dark keys on the piano. You loved that one more than the tennis ones. However throughout all of this Tom would not always very subtly look down at your breasts. Not that you minded as that was the idea, but occasionally Tom would have to snap his gaze away, especially if he was looking and a question was directed at him. Although the odd time you caught him looking you gave him a knowing subtle side glance whilst trying to keep your composure.

Afterwards everything was directed to the audience and those who were confident enough to step up to the two side microphones to ask you, Tom or any of the others a question. There actually ended up being two very long lines of people who had gotten up to ask a question, some were rather easy, whereas others were more complex and gave you all a lot to think about in such a short time. Although Tom is practically an expert at these types of questions after years of practice, he'd often deny it, but you'd graciously prove to him otherwise. Not that you'd say the other's weren't either, just you dumbed that title to Tom seeing as he's been a part of the MCU a lot longer than the rest of you. Well actually you hadn't done a lot of acting work prior to landing the role of Sylvie, so you felt as though you were a lot more inexperienced than your fellow co-stars.

A few questions in from the audience a little girl stepped up to the microphone and after waiting patiently for the mic to be readjusted then she shyly said, "Hi everyone."

"Hi," Yourself, Tom and the others say simultaneously.

"What's your name and how old are you?" Owen adds, as he gave the young girl a smile.

"S-sophie...I'm six." She replied, as she nervously balled up the end of one of her long sleeves on her top and held onto it. Everyone awhed at her young age and they could tell she was so nervous yet brave to stand up in such a crowded room.

"What's your question sweetie?" You asked softly, as you shuffled to the end of the couch and rested your elbows on your thighs.

"Do...do you...erm...will Loki and Sylvie ever...will they ever become boyfriend and girlfriend?" Sophie asked quietly and kept a tight on her top.

"Great question..." You began to say, as the others agreed with you. "I think a lot of people would love to see them become boyfriend and girlfriend at some point. Although I think Sylvie personally has to find herself...to find her glorious purpose first." You added confidently.

"Yeah, I agree. Sylvie is in a very different place to Loki personally, but clearly there's a connection between them which we've already seen in season 1. Like we got to see on Lamentis 1 and then again when Loki shares his blanket with Sylvie...erm...they do have a lot to work out between each other too, especially after the end of season 1 when she pushed him through a Time Door. So you'll have to wait and see where they go from there really in this new season." Tom elaborates before Sophie thanks you both for answering her question and then she steps away from the mic.

"Going off of Sophie's question and talking about working together earlier...have you found a deeper connection between the characters since last we saw them on screen....and how has it affected your off screen relationship?" The host jumps back in.

"Definitely, yeah. I mean Sylvie, she's a variant of Loki therefore Tom and I spent a lot of time together talking about his experience since being apart of the MCU...and we all remember the Loki lectures..." You began to say and laughter filled the room when you mentioned about the Loki lectures Tom gave.

"Ah, yes the Loki lectures and Tom turning up at my door during the middle of the night, it was like Jeff Spicoli and Mr hand." Owen cut in, igniting more laughter from those who understood the reference.

"Yes we all enjoyed the Loki lectures from professor Hiddleston over here..." You teased, lightly nudging Tom when you called him professor Hiddleston, which caused him to blush slightly. "So...erm...there was a lot of time spent breaking down the characteristics of Loki and I even asked to read some old scripts Tom had as well as everything else...like comics mostly focusing on the Lady Loki variant and general research of the mythology. I had seen everything Marvel prior to getting the role of Sylvie as well, I've been a fan since forever...I had read some comics prior to getting the role too, but not as much as after I did. Of course...spending that much time with anyone you're going to know a lot about them..." You were really getting to your answer and you were doing very well to keep to what the audience already knows. Keep it all spoiler free. Tom sat there listening to you intently, even wetting his lips, which ended up distracting your train of thought.

"Hum...well Loki he's had this opportunity to find a connection not only with Mobius on a friendship level...something he's never really had and so to see him and Sylvie together is amazing...astonishing even for his character development, but also by going through all that he's hoping to amend what he's done in the past. Which in turn I think he really wants for Sylvie too, like he says at the end of season 1, he just wants her to be okay...hoping like Sophie and everyone else we will get to see more of that going forwards. Also as we mentioned earlier we've enjoyed working together and spent a lot of time together..." Tom luckily stepped in when you lost your train of thought, however as soon as Tom mentioned he spent a lot of time with you in particular that's when he reached his hand over to yours. He didn't hesitate to lace his fingers with yours and hold your hand firmly in his, looking at you lovingly with those baby blues, both of you smiling at each other. "I've found my Sylvie."

That was it. That was how Tom decided to announce the two of you are together. There of course had been rumours going around about you dating, despite the rumours though you'd been lucky enough to keep the relationship quite private, with only the cast knowing at first followed by friends and family to know about the full extent of your relationship. Albeit you were taken aback slightly by Tom's timing to make the announcement, yet you weren't completely clueless about it either, you'd at least spoken about announcing your relationship publicly. Just the finer details of when and how was never finalised, not until now.

After you recovered Tom lent over to you and gave you a peek on the lips, causing you to blush, the audience went crazily energetic at the announcement. Then Tom turned your ring around so everyone could see it, because prior to that moment you'd kept the diamond turned inwards whenever out in public, but now having it showing felt amazing. No longer having to hide your relationship was a huge deal, especially as you recently got married in a private ceremony with just family and a small group of close friends. Despite your relation now being public knowledge you'd still keep a lot of it private, it just made it easier that way, because more importantly after Tom had bad experience in the past from being too open it was best not to overly share.

Once finally off stage you thought you could finally relax, Tom on the other hand had other ideas. He held your hand as he guided you backstage, Tom seemed to be in a rush, sneaking you off with him when no one was looking. It dawned on you what you were going to do when Tom found an empty room backstage. He pounced on you right after the door was closed and locked behind you. His hands were greedily all over your body and his lips impatiently kissed you. It didn't take you long to melt into him as he pushed you against the wall beside the door.

"Why did you have to get changed into that dress?" Tom asked, as he buried his nose into your hair.

"Just because." You replied cheekily.

What if we have already published these works? Can we just send the links over? Or you prefer them exported as docs into a drive?

A: Hello! Thank you so much for your great question!

The applications for both writers and artists will request 2-3 samples of your work, and yes, specific links for each sample if they have already been published will be fine. All of the writing samples combined must be less than 7k words, so word count is a good factor to consider when deciding what to use! Your samples should be your strongest work, and the portfolio will be optional for anything extra you may want to share with us.

If you would like to show us more of your work, please send a link to a shared drive (like google) for your portfolio. We would prefer to have a limit of 3-6 selections/sections of your favorite works in one place instead of a link to an entire writing account/tumblr page- both so you can show off the best of the best and so we don’t get lost down the rabbit hole while reading/looking at all of your amazing stuff! If you have an actual portfolio website, we’ll look at the first 6 pieces we see.

We’re hoping to have a lot of applications, but that does mean there will be a lot of time spent reading and looking at great art! And because we don’t have access to time tape or Mabel Juice to skip a couple of nights of sleep (as much as we want to!), please consider keeping the works in your portfolio on the shorter side or just picking your favorite chapters/sections (and keep in mind the writing in the zine will be short as well!).

hello everyone here are the few notes i had from that weird night i keep mentioning (march 29):

alex christian legend hero king tossed himself into buttons for act 2 while fellow legend hero king jordan isaac tossed himself out of buttons and into tommy boy!

* it’s something i didn’t consider bc i’ve never done this show on a professional level like this— each character has a track. like each little ensemble role. because tommy dances here during this part, and he crosses this way, and jordan can’t just do his personal track because tommy has to scab and talk to these people and etc. like that mapping out must be fucking insanity especially considering they have TWO SWINGS ONLY right now bc of past injuries etc. with the moscar debacle this weekend this has become pretty obvious but the way we were like “aw no alex… —where’s jack?? —ALEX????”

the lights came all the way on during intermission that day! so we had intermission for at least 10 extra minutes to switch out tommy for jordan and consequently jordan for alex, which was fine by me bc now i have fully lit pictures of the set for you all.

jack bromage (tommy boy) nearly dropped zach guest (ike? a swing?) on his fucking head! whoops!!! and then tommy got hurt and disappeared for act 2 LMAO mans needs to be more careful oh my god

*speaking on tommy though as a character in this version: tommy is integral to the newsies. he’s in trousers, takes the east side as a whole to report the strike to, and when he scabs… oh it’s a moment. crutchie is shocked (“tommy?”), finch says his “they think they can just waltz in here and take OUR jobs?” to tommy directly and shoves him down, which is the only act of violence finch rly commits.

*during the brawl, finch hangs back (around woodside’s overhang balc) and surveys. and there’s this one moment when mush is on the ground via wiesel who has a baseballl bat, and mush is pleading w/ wiesel not to hit him. wiesel grips mush’s suspender as if to hit him again and then the cop whistle blows, and wiesel drops mush and mush.. doesn’t get up. you can hear finch say “no.. no no no-” from woodside before running down and checking if mush is breathing, tapping him to wake him up and get up… ahh another newsie was next to mush that finch was checking on too but i wasn’t sure who- and then finch bolts with those two. and it’s when he’s helping those two offstage that crutchie calls for him, romeo, jack. like bro. the ACTUAL CHARACTER in this show is fantastic like that’s so small but literally the only reason finch can’t help crutchie is bc he’s doing his little sub-leader role and he can’t and it’s. sad. i was like oh wow. nuance. directorial thought. like they had to reason out that staging. it makes me think if they went thru the show and were actually like “what is each character doing during this fight” instead of “what is each actor doing during this fight” which is SOOOOO. impressive.

after king of new york, race and finch take the tables off down in front of brooklyn’s seating. i was sitting in brooklyn bc i scored an act 2 spot lmao. race says to finch “i don’t polish the tables, THEY do!” and pointed directly at me with a fire in his mf eyes. i was. startled and i also fell in love

going into headcanon territory rq for mush. there was a little joking snippet a while back on jacob’s insta story q&a with mush punching albert in the context of like “who could beat al in a fight”. so like mush might be a bit younger but maybe he’s a good fighter so finch seeing HIM down that badly during the fight…. slay. i just love it. it scares finch so bad. i wanna write the fight from his pov now

anyway gents this weekend we approach my final time of seeing this show (i’ve gone 5 times oops)… but definitely not my final analysis post. thank u for sticking by and giving them a lot of love it’s very cool they’re all under #analysis

Will- Pregnancy Alphabet

A= Announcement (When/How do you announce your pregnant to you boss, co-workers, friends?):

The first person we tell is obviously Ella. We purchase her a cake and a T-shirt that say 'worlds best big sister'. Next we tell Jay and Erin, we just show them a positive test. We wait for 3 months to tell anyone else.

B= Baby Predictions (Who will the baby be more like?):

Ella thinks baby will be exactly like her. Will also thinks the baby will be like me and Ella.

C= Cravings (What cravings do you have? ):

Bread. Just bread.

D= Due Date (When is the Due date?):

Due date is May 18th

E= Emergencies (How do they act when something happens during the pregnancy?):

Thankfully nothing is wrong, but being married to a doctor means that I am having check ups everyday. Will is always asking how I'm feeling and if anything has changed with the pregnancy.

F= Falling (How do they react you falling or about to fall?):

I have a little tumble while it's icy out. Will was there to catch me. I then get lectured about being more careful.

G= Gender(s) (What gender do they want the baby to be?):

Ella wants the baby to be a girl, but Will and I don't care.

H= Hands (Do they like to place their hands on your tummy? Do you place your hands on your tummy?):

Yes. From the day we found out I was pregnant he was always putting a hand on my tummy. Ella too. I didn't really place a hand on my tummy until I get a bump and even then I don't stand rubbing my tummy often.

I= Illness (How do they react when you get sick?):

Other than a cold I don't get ill. Will went out and got me medicine that's ok for pregnant woman just to help my headache and stuffy nose.

J= Job (Do you stay at work? Are you allowed to stay at work?):

Yes. I only work in an office so I stay until I have my baby.

K= Kisses (Do they like kissing your bump?):

Yes. Will loves kissing my tummy especially when my bump grows.

L= Life (How has life changed while your pregnant?):

We've been trying to get Ella as ready as she can be for the arrive of the new baby. But life for us hasn't really changed to much other than getting the baby room ready.

M= Movement (How do they react to feeling the baby move? How do they react to the sight of the baby kicking?):

I didn't think Will would be to excited because he's seen it so many times at work, but I was wrong. The moment he felt the baby he rang Jay to tell him, shouting with excitement. At first Ella was a little unsure about how she should feel

N= Nesting (Do you start nesting? When do you start nesting?):

No. I was expecting it ti come but it never does.

O= Outfits (When do you start buying maternity clothes? When do you start buying outfits for the baby?):

Almost immediately. Will and I go shopping at but myself maternity clothes and baby clothes.

P= Parents (Do they give advice? Is it good advice?):

The only person that gives advice is Natalie but it's more this she wish she had known before having her son.

Q= Questions (Do they ask the midwife a lot of questions. Do they keep asking if your ok?):

No. Will is pretty chill. Having a lot of knowledge himself he knows what's going on, although he does ask if I'm ok a lot.

R= Risk (Is there any risks during the pregnancy?):

No thank goodness.

S= Sickness (Do they you have much morning sickness? When does it start? When does it stop?):

My morning sickness would continue till I was just over 13 weeks pregnant.

T= Talking to the Baby (Do they talk to the bump? Do you talk to the bump?):

Yes we both love talking to the growing baby. Ella also loves telling baby how excited she is to meet them.

U= Upset (How do they act when your upset? Why do you cry over most?)

I don't get upset to much during the pregnancy, but when I do Will gets me chocolate and hugs me.

V= Vision as in Supervision (Do they keep a close eye on you? Do they make sure someone's always with you?):

No. Will knows I have gone through this once before and trust that if something felt wrong I would tell him.

W= What's the plan? (What is the birthing plan?):

Remembering how painful my last labour was this time I want to try a water birth at home. Will has managed to get it arranged but things can always change.

X= Xray or Ultrasound (How do they react to seeing an x-ray of the baby. Do they tear up when they see the ultrasound?):

Will doesn't tear up, but he can't take his eyes from the ultrasound. When we get the photos printed immediately they go in his wallet eager to show anyone and everyone.

Y= Yearning (How do they truly feel about having a child? Do they feel as though they are ready for a baby?):

Will is super excited. He thought he was ready but as the babies arrival gets closer he is more nervous. He just wants to be a good dad.

Z= ZZZ (How much sleep do they get during the pregnancy? How much sleep do you get?):

We all sleep pretty good, except for when I need to go to the loo in the middle of the night, but once I'm back in bed I'm asleep.
