What makes this photograph remarkable is you see a group of people on stage perfectly willing to let children die for money being confronted by someone who is not. That is absolutely what is happening in this picture.
America is lost. And as long as people keep on believing that their freedom depends on the tea leaf interpretation of late 18th century document written by pre industrial rich landed white men for the benefit of pre industrial rich landed white men, then it’s doomed

So most folks who read this will know I lean pretty hard left, if what I share (almost entirely by reblog) is any indicator, which it is. Even so, it’s not uncommon for me to think ‘am I being too hard on conservatives and republicans?’ Not that I think they’re worried or anything, but these days I am pretty well convinced that as a political ideology, American conservatism is on its best day-and it doesn’t have many of those-pretty goddamn bad, and on its worst and many of its ordinary days, outright evil.
I have that thought probably out of vestigial ‘fiscal conservative, social liberal’ childhood and young adulthood that that had me firmly believing in the ‘both sides’ myth, and voting for Dubya twice. (It gets worse: as a Floridian.) But then I read stories like this.
One of the most prominent republicans in the country, Gov Abbot of Texas, in a sop to Texas business interests and a general middle finger to anyone labor-oriented, under the classic ‘overregulation!’ rallying cry…have killed a man last year. Another man, I should say. A man who, by the way, was doing what they *claim* they went people to do: work super hard, in this case college and a construction job. In the midst of a staggering, record breaking heat wave that few politicians are innocent of, but American republicans in general and Texas republicans in particular holy shit, are guilty of abetting.
And for what? What is the fearsome regulation that is so burdensome it must be overridden by (hah!) small government republicans? Ten minutes break every four hours. Even construction workers in Texas can’t have it guaranteed that they get a break for ten minutes every four hours.
And then I come back to ‘yeah, fucking evil’. Abbot lives in Texas. On the way from his chauffeured ride to and from his air conditioned home and office and fund raising campaign events, at various points he’s felt the scorching rays of Apollo beating down on him. He had that knowledge in his head when he put pen to paper for the bill that said, courtesy of the state of Texas, ‘no, municipalities, you can’t even guarantee workers in your own city are protected. Because we can’t have overregulation.’
So yeah, fuck Republicans. It ought to be impossible for a Texas Republican to whine about regulation without someone getting right up in their face and shouting ‘Gabriel Infante!’ at them.
(There’s even more worse, more disgraceful details in the story, btw. I encourage y’all to read it.)

Holy shit. Texas DPS officers just roughed up peaceful protesters in the House Gallery as Republicans prepared to debate their anti-trans bill. (h/t @reportsbychar)
Land of what free? Unless in Texas it means free to be brutal with peaceful prostesters.

Okay, Republicans. You got some ‘splainin’ to do.
The Washington Post just released a report that Ken Paxton, the dillweed currently serving as Texas’ AG, made an official request to the Texas DPS to hand over a list of all trans residents who could be identified within the last two years. This unbelievable prick was sneaky about it - he made the request for a list of all Texas residents who had changed the gender marker on their state-issued ID within the last two years. DPS admitted that they came up with 16,000 names but ultimately never handed the list over because they felt that the results were not accurate enough.
There is no reason in Heaven, hell, or on Earth for ANY government official to want a list of the transgender residents in a state where transgender people are being threatened, harassed, and investigated just for existing. Fucking ALL OF YOU get nervous whenever anyone mentions creating a gun database because you don’t want them coming for your guns?
Imagine how we feel, assholes. If you still support that bigoted shitstain, then you can fuck ALL THE WAY OFF.

before i start posting anything about the requests, i just wanted to put this out there for everyone…
as a woman who lives in texas, not by choice trust me, i’m trying to get out lmao, it disturbs me that we have yet, once again, chosen greg abbott to be the leader of this state. not only is he just a piece of shit, but he has stood by while the parents of the children of uvalde have mourned the deaths of their children. the children that waited for nearly an hour for officers to do SOMETHING. but no, greg abbott won’t do anything, because he’s a worthless, waste of oxygen. they would rather worry about the contents of my uterus, than the children who are alive, breathing, and have a conscience on this planet right now. i honestly expected better out of texas. how are we still letting this man hold power? do better.
that rant being over and said, if there is anybody who needs someone to talk to about this, even just to rant or anything, please don’t hesitate to reach out. these are scary times for all of us, including women and people of color. we have to do better.

“When we are going to do something!?”
Coach Kerr said it all. The list of mass shootings is too long; 1,000s murdered.
Moment of silence. Thoughts & prayers. Rinse. Repeat. Nothing changes.
We're not safe at school, work, houses of worship, malls, grocery stores & movie theaters. 27 school shootings have taken place so far this year. The U.S. has surpassed 200 mass shootings this year
Is this freedom?

Gov. Greg Abbott, Republican of Texas, is expected to sign a bill in the next few days that would make it immeasurably more difficult for cities in the state to govern themselves. The bill would strip cities of the ability to set standards for local workplaces, to ensure civil rights, and to improve their environments, trampling on the rights of voters who elected local officials to do just that.
The bill, recently approved by the Texas House and Senate, would nullify any city ordinance or regulation that conflicts with existing state policy in those crucial areas, and would give private citizens or businesses the right to sue and seek damages if they believe there is a discrepancy between city and state. That means no city could prohibit discrimination against L.G.B.T.Q. employees, as several Texas cities have done. No city could adopt new rules to limit predatory payday-lending practices. No city could restrict overgrown lots, or unsafe festivals, or inadequate waste storage. Cities would even be banned from enacting local worker protections, including requiring water breaks for laborers in the Texas heat, as Dallas, Austin and other cities have done following multiple deaths and injuries.
Already the state won’t let cities ban discrimination against low-income renters, and it prohibits them from cutting their police budgets. Dozens of other bills have been introduced to restrict election reforms by Texas cities and counties, including one that would let an official, most likely a Republican, overturn election results in a single place: largely Democratic Harris County, which includes Houston. “The bill is undemocratic,” Mayor Ron Nirenberg of San Antonio told The Texas Tribune. “It is probably the most undemocratic thing the Legislature has done, and that list is getting very long. Local voters have created city charters, and I can’t imagine that they will be pleased to have their decisions usurped by lawmakers.”
Link above has an embedded unlock code that should slip you past the paywall for the rest of it.
The link above isn’t just about Texas but all of the states purposefully changing laws to roll back any progress or protective measures that have already been passed by voters or to disenfranchise the voice of voters in the near future.

Governor Abbott says this recent mass killing on his grounds is a mental health issue.
He says that with a straight face, while at the same time, he and his minions cut $211,000,000 from the state budget for mental health care.
Texas ranks 50th in the country for the availability of mental health care services, but all that's needed are Thoughts and Prayers, right? Demonic Subhumans Playing in your faces.
