Some tips for The Sims 3 Buy/Build

Install LazyDuchess’ Smooth Patch to alleviate lag, esp in Buy/Build and CAS.

Keep your CC merged and organized, esp your patterns, this will also alleviate a lotta lag across all modes.

When building on community lots, or any lot rlly, avoid going to the edit world menu, and just put testingcheats enabled into the cheat window, then shift+click the ground of the lot to enter Buy/Build mode. This makes leaving it to save a lot easier, with less “preparing” screens to possibly get hung up in.

Lower your settings, you don’t need any adjacent lots loaded, and you certainly don’t need super water on either. You can always switch these back on when you’re done.

While you’re at it, remove your HQ mod, and turn off your Reshade/Gshade preset, or at least turn off your depth shaders. I only ever turn on my depth shaders when I’m taking screenshots for better fps while playing. The DoF shader esp requires a lotta resources your game could be using to simulate all those 78 townie sims instead.

Save as… vs Save, I Save as… at least every third save. It’s also just good habit to keep backups.

When using the CASt tool, set down everything you plan to CASt first, then switch to a category like the wall tool to avoid eventual lag and drag when using it a lot. Love yourself. You don’t have to suffer using CASt tool in an overpopulated category like misc deco.

Utilize the clone option through testing cheats to duplicate already CASted objects, it’ll keep your design just like the dropper tool, but it’s a lot less time consuming, I promise.

Don’t be afraid to use the swatch save tool for objects you use often, esp community lot objects, as it helps to keep your aesthetic consistent. I also keep all of my favorite streetlamps, benches, and public trash bins etc in a convenient custom collection folder to speed up the process of doing multiple lots in one sitting. These handy tools are there, use them.

The issue with custom counters. They mess up sometimes, if you can’t recolor it suddenly, here’s how to fix that. Now if you can’t place down a cupboard suddenly, even though nothing’s in the way, and you’ve got moveobjects on activated, try putting it on the wall a tile over, and then try adding it to your desired spot again. Lastly if you set down counters or cupboards at a corner, and it messes up the textures, but you can still recolor it, you could do what the video I linked above does, or you could simply pull out the CASt tool, and switch it back to any of its original swatches and click the check, then feel free to recolor it as you want.

Railings will also do the “can’t recolor” trick too, but this is a simple fix, just delete it, and replace it, and you’re good.

“Oh no, I switched between buy and build mode, and now my catalogue won’t load, and I can’t click on anything at all!” Don’t panic, hit F2 and/or F3 on your keyboard, these are shortcuts for switching between them, and if you’re lucky it’ll load properly again. Should you get the bug where you load a category and it’s somehow empty, don’t fret, just click on a different category and this should fix it. Then if you get the bug where all the objects you put down disappear suddenly, sorry your game is haunted. Call an exorcist, or just reload, they might reappear if you do.

Tbh, if you run into any kind of major bugs, it’s likely a sign to either save immediately or just restart your game. These only ever show up when you’ve been at it a while ( at least for me ), therefore starting fresh wouldn’t hurt. Probably also wouldn’t hurt to check whether you might’ve installed something the game didn’t agree with by running Dashboard, or put it through the ol’ Save Cleaner.

Honorable Mention: Keep an eye on the texture sizes and poly counts of objects. I know it’s tempting to build these ultra hyperrealistic lots with clutter at every inch, but unless you’re just doing it for screenshots, or for your story, or using it very sparingly, it is not by any means recommended purely for gameplay. This is just the truth when it comes to any Sims game. You don’t want lag, or max memory crashes, or save errors? The Sims 3 is a 32bit game, that’s almost old enough to drive, be easy on it.

named after iris by the goo goo dolls. a yellow-toned saturated and glowing preset that comes in both an ingame version and a cas version that i've been using pretty regularly of late. has a very slight highlight and shadow effect on some sims

works with both gshade and reshade

in my opinion it actually looks best indoors and in lower lighting. i recommend sunblind but it looks fine without it

the cas version is NOT meant for white/pale cas backgrounds, so it looks it's best in a room or on a black background. i have no idea what it looks like with the default cas lighting, i recommend these replacements

works best on mid to dark skintones, pale sims will look slightly washed out especially under harsh lighting

Plumbie's Sugarplum Preset

After hours of working on this preset, I'm so excited to release it to the public! Lo and behold, the Sugerplum ReShade preset.

I wanted this preset to feel warm and cosy, perfect for playing the game snuggled up in blankets on a rainy day. The Sims 4 has such beautiful nature, so I also focused on bringing out its beauty, no matter what season.

There are two versions of this preset: the gameplay, cas, and the screenshot one. The screenshot version adds the Pirate Bloom and ADOF effects, adding an auto-blurred background and a dreamy filter over the game, perfect for capturing those special moments in your sims' lives.

How To Install:

In order for this preset to work, you will need the GShade Shaders (do not worry, this is not GShade). @misslollypopsims has made an incredible tutorial on how to install ReShade and the GShade Shaders: How To Install ReShade.

Before You Download This Preset:

This preset was made with the latest version of ReShade and has not been tested on other versions.

Make sure you have edge smoothing turned off in the game settings for the mxao effect to work.

You have the GShade Shaders (once again, not GShade itself).

Keep in mind this is my first ever ReShade preset, so it will have flaws. If you notice any, please feel free to dm me.

“Where can I download your builds?”

my builds & rooms are not available for downloads because I do not keep them myself. I usually create simple rooms only to showcase my content & take pictures, I then delete them.

“What ReShade/GShade do you use & where can I download it?”

my GShade presets are all my own personal presets. I think that one’s preset is such nice way to add a unique touch to pictures & I won’t share any of my presets for that reason.

“Do you allow recolors & conversions to other Sims games?”

yes. I allow recolors & conversions (to Sims games ONLY), as long as my content is already released for free & out of early access. For more information, please read my terms of use;

“I just downloaded X set, and my game won’t start”

this can happen for a few reasons; your game isn’t up to date, you have a lot of duplicate packages, or files got corrupted while downloading. If you download a lot of fully finished builds with merged cc (or into different files), you could end up with a lot of duplicates of the same object. This could cause your game to be slower or even not start at all. Secondly, downloading a lot of files at the same time, especially on patreon, seems to be causing problems & corrupting files. The corrupted files will cause your game to either crash at start or give you an error message. Try taking the last files you downloaded out of your Mod folder and re-downloading the set, or sets, only one part at the time. This seems to always work for me. My content is tested by multiple people (and me) before uploading & I would not upload broken content. If you are facing issues with an older set of mine, it is most likely a problem that occurred while downloading or with your game/mod folder. I am always happy to help when it comes to my content, but I will not “fix” any other creator’s content. In short, make sure to check for: - batch fix (e.g. broken beds updates) - game updates - cc duplicates - corrupted files Lastly, if you did all the above, and are still having problems, do not hesitate to send me a direct message (DM). When it comes to troubleshooting, I will not answer comments below posts for the simple reason that it makes it difficult to have a conversation. Going back and forth with replies into a comment section makes it too difficult since it will most likely require going through a few steps to solve any further issues.

"Do you do commission work?"

no, I dont. I often take suggestions or make small polls on my social media (insta & patreon), feel free to follow me & participate in those, send me pictures of things you like etc.

"Are you WCIF friendly?"

yes. I will do my best to remember where it was from, but since I don't keep any builds in my game, it can sometimes be difficult. Also, please note that I often write a small WCIF section at the end of my posts, take the time to read all the way down!

im so excited to be sharing my first gshade preset! im super proud of how this came out :)

this preset was specifically made for the sims 3, it’s a more dreamy preset with focus on pink & white tones!

my preview pictures were taken in lucky palms with this lighting mod by brntwaffles (with auroras & ip water), so your game might look slighty different than mine.

i have no idea if this preset will work with reshade, or how it appears in ts2 or ts4. i might test it out and release edited versions in the future though!

maple haze is a gshade preset that mainly focuses on the theme of autumn, but disabling a few shaders also provides an alternative realistic look.

a week after releasing my new preset, i somehow impulsively ended up making another new preset. i initially wanted to release this a month ago but i was shadowbanned (still am, cause support ain't answering me at all). while adding builds based on autumn, i wanted to give a look that accentuates the orange vibe and the season.

i'm living in a country that doesn't have any seasons since childhood — only hot, hotter, haze (thank you, neighbouring country, for burning your bloody forest every year), durian, and monsoon season. so i actually have no idea when each season starts and ends, but coincidentally, it turns out that it's autumn now (it's monsoon season for me sobs).

the primary reason for making this preset is for autumn, but while testing around the shaders since it sometimes appeared too bright, it also gives a realistic look. this would be suitable for both gameplay and screenies!

made on gshade ver 4.2.2, not tested on previous or future ver

since this is a gshade preset, i do not know if this will appear the same on reshade and i couldn’t help you with that

disabling some shaders will give you a different look and make it more realistic, it is also advised that you should make some edit to your own liking

may not appear the same as yours because of the changes i made in game files like graphicrules.sgr and the below

lighting mods used in this preset: better in-game lighting mod (bright pale), gentle cas lighting, sunblind

regarding tint, it's highly recommended that you adjust the colour in "edit global preprocessor definitions" based on your preference. it is best to test it around, depending on whether you want to use it just for gameplay or screenies. toggling this off will give it a more realistic look but less of the autumn theme.

all three shaders with toggles makes the preset brighter, so toggling off one or two makes it dimmer with different looks. this would also give a realistic look.

New posepack: Singer Songwriter

The excellent @tiptoesims asked for some moody poses for a guitarist writing music, and I had ABSOLOUTLY NO IDEA of the heartbreak that would precede this sequence. My heart and soul are shattered into a thousand tiny pieces but it’s fine. It’s fine.

The preview images are also by Coley and have absolutely blown me away. Just stunning. The ones I took while testing absolutely pale in comparison, but I included them anyway because Sarius took his shirt off for this. Gotta give the man his chance to shine (I used the Willa Gshade preset by @talentedtrait - o b s e s s e d).

Anyway, now you too can recreate this scene! The notepad isn’t included in the pose (I used the base game notepad to test, but there’s plenty of CC out there). I’d recommend using TOOL to get things lined up.

BASILISK - A GSHADE PRESET

My first gshade preset I’m releasing I’m so excited! So here is my eldest child, Basilisk. This was made with gshade so no idea how it is with reshade. This mostly adds a little color but not so much that it’s crazily bright, mxao for nice shadows and sharpening details

* The MXAO is a little heavy and may lag your game if you keep it on for gameplay so I recommend turning it off if you want to use this preset for gameplay *

TOGGLE KEYS:

MXAO : Numpad /

There are two MXAO shaders that are on and both are connected to this key, feel free to turn one off if both are too much for you (The heavier one is the one that may lag your game)

Cinematic DOF : Numpad *

DOF is curser focused so where ever you move your curser it should focus on that

Cartoon: Delete

I just use this shader sometimes but not for gameplay

⋆ ˚｡⋆୨୧˚ ITS FINALLY HERE!!

I have been secretly play testing this gshade preset over on my YouTube Channel for the past month now and the overwhelming amount of love and demand I had for this to release is so humbling! So here it is. I want to get into the backstory of how this came to be, I was never good at shaders, however I could never find the one that was bright enough, green enough, easy for gameplay, but also good for screenshots and machinimas! After months of trying over 20+ different reshades and then making the switch over to gshade. I finally found out what I liked and disliked in a shader preset. Plus many nights of headache over lighting issues...Thus the birth of Peachy Kisses!

⋆ ˚｡⋆୨୧˚ Disclaimer:

This gshade preset is my very first one and I am no a pro at making these. I just wanted to create one that is simple, easy on the eyes, good for screenshots and gameplay that won’t kill your PC! It may not work for you since each PC is different. If you do run into any difficulties then please message me and I will try my best to help you.

⋆ ˚｡⋆୨୧˚ Recommendation:

I recommend you turn off the Ambient Light, Magic Boom, and all the DOF settings for CAS so it won’t blind your eyes :)

But for gameplay you can keep Ambient light on since it just adds extra cuteness to the game. Also, all of those that I mentioned have keybindings/toggle buttons on them so you don’t have to open the menu every time!

My first Gshade preset! We can all say that The Sims 4 has some really dull lighting, thank goodness that we have programs like Gshade to brighten up our games!

This preset boosts brightness and color, making the Sims world feel more vibrant and alive.

Please note that I also use the following lighting mods in my game, so this preset may not look the same for you without them -

Into the Light

Out of the Dark

Pastel World

Twinkle Toes

I'm not sure if this works well with Reshade as it hasn't been tested using that program so I'm unsure if it will have all the shaders I used with this preset.
