[Image Description: Two drawings in cool blue colors. The one on the left shows a person wearing blue terno sleeves, while the one on the right wears a blue panuelo. Both have wave designs on the hems of their sleeves. They wear no shirts or bodices underneath, only body chains in multiple strings of white pearls draped across their torsos. /end ID]
Wore the barong filipiniana I made out to a local Artisan Market, met so many cool Filipino makers and finally got to eat at a Filipino pop up I've been chasing for ages now! I'm so thrilled puff sleeves are back in I'm gonna make the casual terno/butterfly sleeve a THING
This is a colourization and digital restoration of a Filipino woman in the 1900s. She is wearing a Terno gown. I literally have no information on the original b+w. I got it on Pinterest.
2nd half of the dare. I get to draw these girls this time. From the 'Thea Stilton' spin-off series. I really like these girls, and their books, despite me being a guy. Wouldn't lie if I said I'm kinda attracted to one of them. Not saying who.
So yeah, for this half, I get to draw these girls if they were wearing some fashionable Filipiniana styles. Maybe they're at the Philippines for a formal event or a fiesta. And maybe they'll have an adventure there as well.
Like the previous pic, designing these were hard. But I suppose I managed to make the best of it. And yes, I used a photo for the bg this time. Because I get to be lazy on that end for once.
Hope you guys like!
Power, Fashion, Modernity: The Ternos of the Benilde Collection (10.17.2023)
i realized i never shared this!! there was an exhibit showcasing various remixes on the traditional filipiniana done by fashion alumni and students from my college! among these included some cosplay designs and features from benildean students on filipino characters!
i know how new zealand culture is embedded in the locked tomb and muir even fought for it to stay in the series, but i would love to see someone draw harrow in filipiniana-style outfits. i see so many renditions of harrow in flouncy petticoats and really baroque goth outfits that are vaguely european and i love them but i keep thinking of @alamangoes' drawing of two women in filipiniana, one wearing a terno whose structured butterfly sleeved bolero shields her bare ribcage, and another wearing a dark barong whose curved spine and angled pelvis are embroidered on the back of her shirt. And then, of course, her drawing of a woman who hides her knives under her wide butterfly sleeves and imagining harrow's butterfly sleeves themselves made of bones like this caged beauty. And I can definitely see people going crazy for the layers and drama of the translucent baro't saya, with their flowing shirts resting under the beautiful and stiff shield of their panuelo.
art nouveau twist on an old concept i had for (fake) terrarium terno sleeves 🤍

[Image Description: A woman looking over her shoulder, wearing a white strapless dress and golden cage-like terno sleeves. The sleeves have a style reminiscent of art nouveau frames. Bunches of white moon orchids and leaves peek out from between the gaps of the sleeves. Another moon orchid is pinned to her twisted updo. The woman is surrounded by a green frame with an arch and two moon orchids drawn across the top. /end ID]
Turning a Barong Tagalog into a filipiniana dress! Here's the progress pics on the fun mesh top Filipiniana I wore yesterday. I'm gonna be making casual butterfly sleeves a THING even if I gotta make them myself 🔥🇵🇭🔥
AND FINALLY styling the completed filipiniana for a wedding 🔥
My favorite thing about wearing butterfly sleeves out is it's basically a beacon for other Filipinos to find you and I love all the cool connections I've made 💜🇵🇭💜
Since May was Asian American Pacific Islander Month, I present to you my KPOP CONCERT LOOKS: Filipina Girly Edition🇵🇭
Since I had two concerts and three shows planned, I wanted to make sure I prepared THREE Filipinx inspired outfits to represent my culture !
Look 1- Pre colonial attire inspired by the ethnolinguistic group called TAUSUG. It is also inspired by Daechwita 👑 A friend of mine created this attire for me, and I can also wear it in four different ways! We love a fashion conscious girly.
I also do Filipino Folk Dance/Philippine Dance, and I’ve been studying this particular dance form for about 9 years now.
Below is a picture of me wearing the traditional Tausug attire!
2.) Butterfly Sleeves
A Filipiniana is a traditional outfit with puffy oversized sleeves. There are different types and styles of Filipiniana based on this traditional attire. The one I am wearing is called a terno. The terno usually comes with arched, flat sleeves. I am obviously wearing a modern version of the terno. My mom brought this back for me from the Philippines!
3.) Barong/Terno
The Barong is an embroidered long sleeve formal shirt.
Barong are usually worn by men, and the Terno by women. Of course, I literally don’t care BECAUSE I CAN WEAR WHATEVER I WANT😝 I love this modernized take on both traditional attires. It’s both stylish and displays inclusivity.
I felt so pretty for the entire month of May😂🤣 maybe it’s because I feel the most confident whenever I wear some sort of cultural attire…
