More than any other story I've experienced, One Piece lets character traits simply be traits without pigeonholing them as being positive or negative. You see it most with Usopp and Sanji, but much like Sanji's chivalry, Usopp's negativity is presented as part of who he is. It's not something that must be overcome in order to become a better, more complete person. While it gets him into trouble during Water 7, without it the Straw Hats would have lost here at Thriller Bark.

It feels very much like a role reversal from when Sanji saved Usopp from Jabra back on Enies Lobby. Usopp's particular brand of negativity is something only he can do, and for once the rest of the crew has to depend on him to save the day. While there is character development for Usopp during this fight, the core of who he is as a person doesn't change, and that's a really interesting way to handle character development.

And just like the others can depend on Usopp to beat Perona because of his specific ability, Usopp has to depend on the others to defeat the "weaker" zombies surrounding the room, because he's not strong enough to fight them on his own. Even when Usopp gets his hero moment, he has to rely on others to cover his weaknesses.

You might be asking yourself what's the point of all these posts? Why is he respond to his "fan" mail like this? Is he trying to gain sympathy?Is he just looking for an excuse to make some dumb memes?

No, I'm not. You actually don't need an excuse to meme on tumblr. It's a right guaranteed in the tumblr bill of rights (now that I think of it this would be fun product to crowdsource the ideas for and then make into a poster). I read every ask, reply, message and reblog. But I usually only answer the positive ones publicly. I felt that it was giving off the impression that I ignore critical feedback and I don't, I really don't. There are so many amazing ideas that were given to me by users, I would be stupid to not listen to you all.

I enjoy how Oda shows the maturation of the crew during the fight with Oars. It's fitting that it starts off with Usopp insisting that Luffy will save the day, since he was the one who showed the most doubt during Water 7. He's overcome that and reinstated his utmost faith in his captain's ability, but as always Zoro is the down to earth realist of the crew. He's not doubting Luffy's strength, but taking into account his very real weakness to trickery and deception. It helps that Oda starts the chapter by showing Luffy being tricked by Moriah's shadow into running back out to the woods, far away from where he should be. It's the narrative going out if its way to prove that Zoro's right, and this is very much something they should be worried about.

And instead of arguing about it or getting freaked out, the rest of the crew agree that Zoro's got a point and they can't sit around twiddling their thumbs waiting to be saved. The speech ends with Zoro once again affirming is faith in Luffy's abilty to defeat Moriah. It all feels very appropriate for a good number two, but that kind of stability and practicality isn't unusual for Zoro. It's the fact that the rest of the crew rallies behind him is what really solidifies the crew's growth as a group. This isn't a bunch of individuals who happen to be fighting for a common goal; they are the Straw Hat Pirates.

I love how if you listen during this scene, you can hear Sir Pentious say "Teamwork makes the dream work," only to then add "Yes, I've heard that one!" XD XD XD It so adorable and endearing that he's doing what he can to inspire everyone as well as that he's using a saying that is typically seen as overused, cliché or mainly taught just to children. ^_^<3<3<3<3 (It could be sad in a way too if him using that phrase is indicating stuff like that is all he's got in his book of inspirational words and he hasn't been exposed to really any other encouraging words growing up or even as an adult). :( Still kudos to him for his active involvement in seeing that everyone becomes a finely-tuned team together. ^_^<3<3<3
