S.H.I.E.L.D. turning out to have an infestation problem and happily - or not so happily - crashing from that wasn't something Tony had factored in when planning for the "something big" that was inevitably coming.
He had no idea what Rogers had been thinking, or Romanoff.
Especially Romanoff. For all she claimed to be the best spy, that was some real naïve work from her last week.
And now, there was blood in the water and the sharks would inevitably come.

Captain America: Civil War
Plot
In 1991, the brainwashed super-soldier James "Bucky" Barnes is dispatched from a Hydra base in Siberia to intercept an automobile carrying a case of super-soldier serum. In the present day, approximately one year after Ultron is defeated by the Avengers in the nation of Sokovia,[a] Steve Rogers, Natasha Romanoff, Sam Wilson, and Wanda Maximoff stop Brock Rumlow from stealing a biological weapon from a lab in Lagos. Rumlow blows himself up, attempting to kill Rogers. Maximoff telekinetically diverts the explosion, accidentally destroying a nearby building and killing several Wakandan humanitarian workers in the process.
Thaddeus Ross, the U.S. Secretary of State, informs the Avengers that the United Nations (UN) is preparing to pass the Sokovia Accords, which will establish a UN panel to oversee and control the team. The Avengers are divided: Tony Stark supports oversight because of his role in Ultron's creation and Sokovia's devastation, while Rogers has more faith in his own judgment than that of politicians. Meanwhile, Helmut Zemo tracks down and kills Barnes' old Hydra handler, stealing a book containing the trigger words that activate Barnes' brainwashing. At a UN conference in Vienna where the Accords are to be ratified, a bomb kills King T'Chaka of Wakanda. Security footage indicates the bomber is Barnes, whom T'Chaka's son, T'Challa, vows to kill. Informed by Sharon Carter of Barnes' whereabouts and the authorities' intentions to kill him, Rogers decides to try to bring in Barnes—his childhood friend and war comrade—himself. Rogers and Wilson track Barnes to Bucharest and attempt to protect him from T'Challa and the authorities, but all four, including T'Challa, are apprehended by the Bucharest police and James Rhodes.
Impersonating a psychiatrist sent to interview Barnes, Zemo recites the words to activate Barnes's brainwashing. He questions Barnes, then sends him on a rampage to cover his own escape. Rogers stops Barnes and sneaks him away. When Barnes regains his senses, he explains that Zemo is the real Vienna bomber and wanted the location of the Siberian Hydra base, where other brainwashed "Winter Soldiers" are kept in cryogenic stasis. Unwilling to wait for authorization to apprehend Zemo, Rogers and Wilson go rogue, and recruit Maximoff, Clint Barton, and Scott Lang to their cause. With Ross's permission, Stark assembles a team composed of Romanoff, T'Challa, Rhodes, Vision, and Peter Parker to capture the renegades. Stark's team intercepts Rogers' group at Leipzig/Halle Airport, where they fight until Romanoff allows Rogers and Barnes to escape. As Rogers and Barnes are escaping, Rhodes is inadvertently shot down by Vision, and becomes partially paralyzed. The rest of Rogers' team is captured and detained at the Raft prison, and Romanoff goes into exile.
Stark discovers evidence that Barnes was framed by Zemo and convinces Wilson to give him Rogers' destination. Without informing Ross, Stark goes to the Siberian Hydra facility and strikes a truce with Rogers and Barnes, unaware that they were secretly followed by T'Challa. They find that the other super-soldiers have been killed by Zemo, who then shows them footage that reveals that the automobile Barnes had intercepted in 1991 contained Stark's parents, whom Barnes subsequently killed. Enraged that Rogers kept this from him, Stark turns on them both, leading to an intense fight, in which Stark destroys Barnes' robotic arm, and Rogers disables Stark's armor. Rogers departs with Barnes, leaving his shield behind. Satisfied that he has avenged his family's deaths in Sokovia from the Avengers' actions by successfully fracturing them, Zemo attempts suicide, but he is stopped by T'Challa and taken to the authorities.
In the aftermath, Stark provides Rhodes with exoskeletal leg braces that allow him to walk again, while Rogers breaks his allies out of the Raft. In a mid-credits scene, Barnes, granted asylum in Wakanda, chooses to return to cryogenic sleep until a cure for his brainwashing is found. In a post-credits scene, Parker explores the features of the web shooters built for him by Stark.

the more you think about it, the less sense it makes to support Sokovia Accords.
The World Security Council not only tried to nuke New York, they supported Project Insight before they knew it's Hydra, and even then they are against Hydra only because it's been historical associated with nazism, not Hydra's ideology or logic. (“not if it's your button.”)
SHIELD and the US government recruited Hydra/Nazi scientists to recreate the serum, trying to build their own supersoldier army. Which, again, is what Hydra is doing anyway. There's no fucking guarantee that the govt would picked out better people (see Walker) than Hydra and for 'better' purposes (see US track record).
Peggy Carter, Marvel's left wing progressive all around inspiration to a whole generation girl boss echoed Alexander Pierce, the big old evil nazi man. Nick Fury, The Black Bossman of MCU, was so proud of Project Insight before Steve gave him a reality check.
The government's action as well as ideology is literally no different from Hydra. Their rejection to Hydra is performative. They will recruit them anyway once it's supposedly destroyed (then comes the Thesues's boat question). I'd venture a guess that Hydra's recruitment process is basically “you'll do exactly what you're doing right now but with better pay.”
All the political institution in MCU is only titularly different from the most evil organization in recent human history, even if Sokovia Accords wasn't as radical and unconstitutional and an egregious violation to human rights, they never should've agreed to hand to oversight power to the UN or any existing institution.

His friends sympathised with his hatred of the nickname.
His enemies sneered and laughed at his refusal of embracing his true heritage.
Thor and Loki, one brother his friend and the other his foe, merely found the sobriquet confusing. How could everyone else in the mortal realm be so blind to the man’s true form? How could they not see that he was so much more than a mere Merchant of Death?

CACW starting off the tonystarkification of phase 3 was bad enough but I swear the GP has amnesia when it comes to that movie and the teamironman takes you see go viral. like no one except for rhdy agreed w him by the end and switched teams. t'challa is the only (other than steve) to recognize bucky as a victim and help him, yet the GP seems to only pay attention to fight scenes & ignore actual characterization?? IW did a bad job of cementing the T'C/SR/BB teamup from CACW for the GP's memory
What’s hilarious about IW (or infuriating, depending on whether you’re a glass-half-empty kinda person??) is, because the Avengers movies went out of their way to pretend Bucky didn’t exist (I assume thanks to HA letting Whedon take her out for a drink), until Steve is walking right up to Bucky and hugging him in Wakanda, if you had only ever watched Avengers movies, you would have no idea who that guy is.
And then they go right back to pretending Bucky doesn’t exist in EG by having Steve react (slightly) to Sam’s resurrection, and having a Moving Stare Off when T’Challa comes back...
But his reaction to Bucky’s resurrection is not shown, and he is never mentioned even once, despite being the first person to turn to dust.
In fact, they mention movies Sebastian Stan has been in more than they mention the actual person Sebastian Stan is supposed to be playing in this universe.
And they thought ramming in a gratuitous director-cameo as Unnamed Gay would mask the scent of their gay panic?
Nope! It still stinks!
(And as for CW, which is just a trainwreck of bad characterisation for everyone tbh...
Well, Natasha has known Tony a lot longer than Steve, and a lot more intimately. And Natasha has also had access to the same info as Steve, which suggested TWS might have murdered Tony’s parents.
*totally justified in Stark’s case anyway since he co-founded SHIELDra and was buddies with ‘Arnie’ and knew TWS was ‘Sergeant Barnes’ way back in the 1990s- but moving on*
And yet, I’ve never heard any suggestion that Tony was going to hunt Natasha down and go on a homicidal rampage to punish her for lying to him about his parents’ deaths (including trying to kill Clint just to hurt her).
Because that would be stupid, right??
The Avengers movies reduced individual characters to bad campy one-note stereotypes of their solo movie selves, with the result that Avengers-Tony is just a bullying bro-wannabe mancave-having prick, and Steve is... some kind of Homelander-esque 'old-fashioned’ thing?
(Wrong! Steve was ahead of his time in the 1940s. ‘The creators got in-person death threats from American Nazis’ kind of ahead-of-his-time. So for him to be old-fashioned now, he would have had to be ‘of his time’ in the 1940s.)
There is this amateur writer’s belief (*cough*Whedonagain*cough*) that, just because conflict is interesting, therefore the only interesting way to introduce characters to each other is if they’re having an argument in every scene.
So they never showed Steve and Tony actually getting along.
(Honestly, the most unbelievable thing in AOU wasn’t the magic, it was Steve spending the whole movie glaring in disapproval every time Tony opens his mouth, but then saying ‘I’ll miss you’ at the end. They want to make Steve out to be a self-sacrificing verging on self-destructive type, but this only makes sense if he’s also a huge masochist!)
But then they expect us to believe not only that they did get along (well you didn’t show us that, you showed us the opposite of that), but that the end of their ‘friendship’ would be a devastating development for both of them...
When, in fact, all that happened is that everyone ended up living in paradise, looking their best selves, and Tony ended up engaged to his dream woman and conceiving a kid.
If that’s the result, they should’ve split the Avengers years ago!)

I am not doing good bros
In fact I've never been worse, which I didn't think was possibly.
Basically a mental health service I've been waiting years for basically said I was too depressed to get help from them, the court case got moved to a different court so the first hearing has obviously been pushed back coz of this and the guy who broke my nose has still been harassing my brother over it and anytime I go out I get super bad anxiety - like I hated going out before it's even worse now.
And to top it all off nobody in this world messages more than my bank telling me I have no money and a lot of bills to pay and how much debt I am in as I continue to struggle to get a job.
Everyday the bridge looks a little more appealing and the bottom of the ocean a little more comforting..
But I'd like to try and get back to writing to disrtract myself so if anyone has any sander sides prompts or marvel prompts (not team cap friendly is just 💖 so anything in regards to that I will most certainly do #teamironman) then please do send them my way!
