The thing in Gurdians of the Galaxy is that they don't really care about being good. They just want to be with their little band of misfits and accidentally saving the galaxy in the process.
In GOTG 1, they have no other choice bc they don't want to die.
In GOTG 2, Quill just wanted a dad. The dad happens to be an egomaniac.
In Endgame, Rocket and Nebula just wanted to bring their family back.
In GOTG 3, they just wanted to save a friend.
And their selfishness is what makes them more human than any superhero movie... though only .5 of them is actually human 😭

1. X Men movie series. Definitely, absolutely, undoubtedly, comfort movie. X Men. I remember watching the prequels with my brother as a kid when it's only the two of us at home. It's not just a comfort movie it's literally a fricking nostalgia for me. Then continued watching the whole timeline when I had my own computer.
2. STAR WARS MOVIES!!! Been a fan since I was a literal toddler and grew up with this. All sorts of nostalgia will come rushing to me and I will immediately feel hugged everytime I listen to the theme and just, see a familiar character. hey I don't know any lore cause I don't watch the cartoons but I watch enough to know what's going on🤷
3. Mean Girls. Yes, I watch Mean Girls on repeat everytime I eat lunch, it helps me eat cause I get distracted by all the drama going on, it's not nostalgic or anything cause I first watched it like two years ago but it is definitely a favourite and an absolute comfort movie.
4. Any Ghibli movies, I mean cmon, Ghibli!!! All my childhood anime movies are made from Ghibli. I love every single one of themm
5. Any Barbie movies (especially the Mariposa one, and the Princess Academy one and OMG THE MERMAID ONE!!) wait the mermaid one definitely needs its own like thing but I'm just putting it here. THE MERMAID BARBIE IS SO ICONIC I LOVE THAT MOVIE SO SO MUCH omg I have to rewatch
6. Twilight Series. Don't- actually. yes. I don't care anymore, I will not keep denying the fact that I LOVE this movie. It's part of my childhood and this movie really gave me alot of memories, I always watch the series whenever I'm sad or stressed about school..which is, all the time.
7. GOTG trilogy. Ugh, I mean I'm a Marvel fan in general (but I lean more to X Men), but Guardians Of The Galaxy will always be special to me. And the trilogy ended this year too and lemme tell you i CRIED. I remember begging my brother to lend me his USB so I can watch the first movie, and I did (took me a few weeks) and then BAM! Found comfort characters, all their songs became my comfort songs and immediately became a comfort movie, seriously the whole movie feels like home to me, god I love them.
8. Brokeback Mountain. I don't need to say anything about this, explains alot already.
9. Interstellar. Loved that movie to the CORE. watched it on the cinema and this movie made me fall in love with Nolan.
10. mmm I can't think of anything anymore but uhhh 2001: A Space Oddysey. Love it forever and always, the beginning of time and all that, loved the book it's one of my favourite books. And then the movie was just out of this world (literally) soundtrack? Top. Acting? Absolutely fantastic. Cinematography? yES. Perfection. I have an interest in the topic which is why I just feel so happy when I rewatch it..

Characters in the Disabled Characters Showdown
Notes:
1.) Characters are listed below the cut, because there’s a ridiculous amount of them. Depending, some of the characters may not be in the showdown, however, if you submit one it will probably be used
2.) We are still looking to have more characters submitted and will update this page accordingly. At this point we are looking at doing a 128 person showdown because we’re extra like that. We’ll see if that actually happens but it seems probable. Characters can be submitted in the notes of this post or in an ask.
3.) If you want to submit propaganda about any of these characters feel free to because otherwise you will get things like this: “Haven’t the faintest clue who this is, so you get no context.” You can also submit character images because most of them will be horrible due to us just pulling most of them from the fandom page.
4.) If you have any issues about any characters feel free to shoot us an ask. That being said, this poll isn’t really about who is the best representation. See more details here. people on my dash are already going on about how it would be "in character" for tim to cheat on bernard with kon... we got a cute timkon moment but At What Cost
oh nooooooo.........
i am once again begging people to acknowledge that the last time Tim actually cheated on a partner was when he was like 14 around 1996 (so literally 20+ years ago) with Jubilee during the DC vs Marvel crossover. anything after that point really wasn't Tim cheating for one of several reasons.
[more ranting about this under the cut, mostly me repeating things i've said before about this subject]
right. so. a short list of reasons anything post-DC vs Marvel & DC/Marvel: All Access wasn't actually Tim cheating:
The characters were not in an actually established relationship at the time- this is like the stuff during Red Robin era where Tim had moments with Tam and Lynx in a similar timeframe. Because yes Tim was in the early stages of getting with Tam then, but they definitely did not get to a 'we are exclusively together now' point during the book! She was absolutely his main love interest, and if the book hadn't ended bc of the New 52 they probably would have made up from their fight towards the end and gotten more formally together... but we didn't actually get there. Totally fine to think he handled those situations with each girl poorly- he definitely did imo- but it wasn't cheating.
There was messed up timing between books when Tim's solo changed writers- stuff with Zo and Cassie slightly overlapped due to this... but also not even as much as people seem to think. [I made a whole timeline about this a while ago, yellow is Teen Titans/Cassie and pink is Robin/Zo]
Most panels of 'Tim kissing another girl while he was dating x!!' being shown as proof of him cheating are taken entirely out of context and the girl kissed Tim without his consent (at least 9 unique women that I could name off the top of my head have kissed Tim without his consent. several of them do become his love interests but they were not together at the time these kisses happened). Especially relevant info imo is that any and all cheating happened while he was dating Ariana (he kissed Steph early in his solo while dating Ari, and then also the earlier mentioned thing with Jubilee. Those are the instances of cheating), he never cheated on Steph (she mistakenly thinks he's cheating on her twice, with Star and then Darla, but he wasn't actually).
Then also for that messy thing in the New 52 with Cassie and Kiran on the boat the same night.... first of all New 52 Tim is barely Tim, but even so he wasn't dating either of them, like nothing was formal there. If anything the bigger problem is he was the person Kiran cheated on Bart with... but that's not to mention uhhhh Tim was literally under Trigon's influence for ALL of that.
Soooo yeah! Having modern day Tim actually cheat on Bernard is not something I think would be in character at all.
What I do think could be in character in regards to Timkon stuff at this moment (obviously all of this is unlikely, but just in terms of 'hypothetical situation') would be Tim coming to the realization of 'wait... did I like Kon... do I still like Kon?' and then having internal struggle over what to do with that information since he also likes and is dating Bernard. Tim is the kind of person to end up with feelings for more than one person at the same time, leaving him feeling torn between them. I think there's been plenty of time in his books devoted to that sort of thing over the years.
But him just deciding to cheat on the person he's in a committed relationship with isn't even really what happened in the canon instances of him cheating- the time he kissed Steph was because he'd almost died and she was the person there to save him, it was a 'holy fuck im ALIVE' heat of the moment thing... and then with Jubilee it was him stranded in the Marvel Universe as they were all told they needed to fight for the survival of their worlds and mostly a 'hey I don't know if i'm gonna survive or ever see my friends and family again but this girl is into me so lets make the most of it' situation that he promptly no longer wanted to be part of once he was back on his own world and the danger was gone. I think the context behind those two situations matters a lot when discussing Tim and the idea of cheating/how in character it is for him, but lots of people love to just gloss over it.
Like, if someone was more specifically saying "Tim and Kon ending up in a super dangerous 'one of them almost dies' situation and having a heat of the moment kiss" would be in character, I at least definitely get where that's coming from based on past canon. But saying it'd be in character for Tim to just choose to cheat on Bernard with Kon under normal circumstances? No way, man.

was watching ffxvi stuff and marveling at how fuckin sick odins aeathetic is (as usual) and was reminded about how there existed an odin tam in-game somewhere at some point and how i thought of a fantastic 5.0 au where post-8th calamity odin DID hang around wearing her appearance and graha happened across it in the shroud during his travels and got to deal with seeing his warrior and best friends face on a primal. anyway hows everybodys night going

I've said it before and I'll say it again: GOTG have the smoothest, most planned, movie series with a satisfying ending.
[SPOILERS]
It shows that:
- the main male lead and female lead doesn't have to end up together
- endings doesn't have to be tragic or sad to be remarkable
- heroes deserve to be saved too
- people change, and that's okay
- keep the character arc constant throughout different movies
- give villain's minions some character and thoughts. When High Revolutionary's subordinate went against him? And that Ura girl? Amazing.
- some villains can have no sob backstory and justification of what they done and still be a good villain (story-wise), and audience don't need to empathize. It's ok if they just want to cheer heroes as they kick the villain's ass
- You can make good jokes WITHOUT undermining the emotional aspect. Go ahead, joke, but know where to stop. I feel that's what new MCU movies lacked lately.

The Eye of the World, Chapter 5 - Winternight

Rand and Tam arrive home the sun halfway from noon to sunset, to find everything in order at their relatively small home. They're unusual for having just the two living there, as most families live three or four generations in a house.(1)
A fair bit of time is just spent establishing that they are indeed farmers and know what they're about, and that the effects of the long winter are causing the animals to be less fruitful as well as a delay in the growing season. They do the daily chores, attending to the animals, checking on the early plantings, chopping wood and mending tack. As dusk falls, Tam breaks Rand out of a woodchopping fugue and suggests they get some supper and sleep before tomorrow.
At one point in the evening, Rand notes Tam locking the doors, something that's never been done in his life, and then Tam retrieves something from the chest under his bed: a sword, with a heron on the scabbard, the hilt, and the blade.(2) Rand is enamored but confused, Tam says he should have gotten rid of it, he paid too high a price and it's no good for farming, but maybe they'll be glad of it tonight.
Then comes the knock at the door. Then thumping. Then the door bursts in, the lock laying almost exploded across the floor.
Rand felt the beginnings of an odd sort of relief. Whoever this was, it was not the black-cloaked rider. Then he saw the curled ram’s horns on the head that brushed the top of the doorway, and where mouth and nose should have been was a hairy muzzle. He took in all of it in the space of one deep breath that he let out in a terrified yell as, without thinking, he hurled the hot kettle at that half-human head.
Tam tells Rand to run for the woods, and Rand is ashamed of how quickly he obeys, until he realizes the back door is locked, too. He slips out a window just as another creature breaks down that door, and as he listens, he hears both boots and hooves across the wooden floor inside.
After some scuffles, chases, and finally running into the woods, Tam finds Rand and confirms that these are Trollocs, and they're no myth. They have the properties of the animals that are part of them, so some can see or hear or smell particularly acutely, but they're sensitive to bright light and lazy, so if they can evade the creatures long enough, they should give up.
Unfortunately, Tam's hurt, and already running a fever. Rand has to sneak back to the house for Bela, the cart, and blankets, to get him to town. The sheep are all dead, and the house's contents in splinters and shards.
As Rand looks for a waterskin, one of the Trollocs comes back, and starts telling Rand to put the sword down, he just wants Rand to talk to the Myrddraal. Rand panics momentarily at the mention of Myrddraal, another myth, and starts to lower his arms. When the Trolloc lunges at him, he raises the sword quickly and makes his first, messy, horrifying kill.
He gathers what few things are still intact, which doesn't include his bow. Rand uses the sword to take some of the wood from the broken cart. Marveling that the sword stayed sharp even after chopping old, hardened ash that would dull any axe,(3) Rand makes his way back to his father. He finds the older man asleep, and touches his face gently to check his fever.
The touch roused Tam, but only into a hazy wakefulness. “Is that you, boy?” he breathed. “Worried about you. Dreams of days gone. Nightmares.” Murmuring softly, he drifted off again.
“Don’t worry,” Rand said. He lay Tam’s coat and cloak over him to keep off the wind. “I’ll get you to Nynaeve just as quick as I can.” As he went on, as much to reassure himself as for Tam’s benefit, he peeled off his bloodstained shirt, hardly even noticing the cold in his haste to be rid of it, and hurriedly pulled on the clean one. Throwing his old shirt away made him feel as if he had just had a bath. “We’ll be safe in the village in no time, and the Wisdom will set everything right. You’ll see. Everything’s going to be all right.”
That thought was like a beacon as he pulled on his coat and bent to tend Tam’s wound. They would be safe once they reached the village, and Nynaeve would cure Tam.(4) He just had to get him there.

(1) Yep, the nuclear family is an incredibly new and incredibly American development. A lot of places in the world still live with many generations, and even several of the siblings of each generation staying in the one home. It can get crowded, but it's also a way of distributing responsibilities: if everyone's together, everyone can work together and cover every base.
(2) Now, why would a farmer like Tam al'Thor have a fancy sword like that? It's no wonder he thinks it cost too much, it must have cost a fortune, with delicate detail work as described… but is a monetary cost all he means by it?
(3) And weirdly strong, to hold up to that kind of usage without needing sharpening. Just what is this heron-marked sword?
(4) I sure hope you're right about that, my lad, for your sake and his.

five comfort characters, five tags
thanks for including me to be one of the special five tags @kingfisherprince and @yoellglia I'm so honoured omg🙈
ANYWAYS. Five characters only is IMPOSSIBLE. I have tons but..these are what pops up in my mind first.
1. Peter Quill!! Honestly idk if he's number 1. But this are not by rankings cause I'm picky about comfort characters and they're all number 1. I love Peter he's so funny, so charismatic and soooo baby, (and so traumatized wow) The first time I saw him I KNEW he was going to be my favourite Guardian along w Rocket and Groot.
2. Dean Winchester. Hello my traumatized baby, look at him. He's so sweet and cute, despite all that trauma and stuff going on in his life he's still so kind and he tries not to continue the trauma chain and I'm so proud of him. He's my fav SPN character along with Bobby Singer, Crowley, and Castiel <3
3. (omg suddenly there's too much characters in my head) UHHHH. OKAY MO GUAN SHAN!! MOMO FROM 19 DAYS MANHWA. yes. I mean the whole manhwa is my comfort manhwa, I'm always sooo excited for new chapters but momo is my fav lil kitten he's so agressive and cute and baby, always getting into fights and definitely has some sort of freaking PTSD or something but He Tian's there to love him. So it's fine. TianShan couple goals.
4. Charles Xavier. Again, all of this is not ranked and if it was, Charles will be up a little bit. Charles Xavier, fav telepath and a cutie pie. He has mommy issues, and daddy issues ig, and in the comics he probably traumatized his son I mean. Look at his son. But that's besides the point! He's the sweetest, in terms of characters I relate to Erik more, and I'm more of an Erik Lehnsherr mindset cause c'mon. Mutants are superior idc but Erik is more serious than Charles, not my thing nono. So I have to have my sweetheart Charles here. Him and that tree scene is so cute, him when he found out that girl has a husband was even MORE cute. He's the cutest I can't-
5. Sam Wilson. Fav buff guy, smol smol bean 🤏🤏 I want to keep him in my pocket. He's doing great, unlike all the other characters I don't think he is that traumatized despite almost dying in an explosion, got dusted by Thanos, his best friend growing old( like rotting old) and giving him the responsibility of being Captain America and the whole states in his hand, and he definitely had identity crisis for a while. But that's just common marvel trauma. anyways, he's the guy, he's the cutest, him and his lil wizards, aliens and stuff speech was so cute. His whole character is a comfort.
Honorable mention of Iruka, Shinya Hiragi, Gojo, Loki, Shuri, and more I can't think of rn (I just woke up guys)
