I had a fun conversation with some other cartoonists in a National Cartoonists Society open house Zoom a couple of months ago about the difference between traditional inking and "digital" inking. I mentioned always feeling a little weird calling it "inking" as, obviously, no "INK" is required in any way. The idea sat in the back of my head until I also realized how often I draw myself at a drawing board I RARELY use anymore, and I figured I could combine the concepts and make Dandy the voice prodding the questions. He's FAR less antagonistic than Skeezicks, who I used to use as the Anxiety Demon in the strip, but still able to get under my skin for the sake of comedy. Plus... I never get tired of drawing him. What can I say, it's my comic strip. I'm self-indulgent. lol

Talking Dog For Sale.
A guy is driving around the backwoods of Montana and he sees a sign in front of a broken down shanty-style house: 'Talking Dog For Sale.'
He rings the bell and the owner appears and tells him the dog is in the backyard.
The guy goes into the backyard and sees a nice looking Labrador Retriever sitting there.
"You talk?" he asks.
"Yep" the Lab replies.
After the guy recovers from the shock of hearing a dog talk, he says, "So, what's your story?"
The Lab looks up and says, "Well, I discovered that I could talk when I was pretty young. I wanted to help the government, so I told the CIA. In no time at all they had me jetting from country to country, sitting in rooms with spies and world leaders, because no one figured a dog would be eavesdropping, I was one of their most valuable spies for eight years running... but the jetting around really tired me out, and I knew I wasn't getting any younger so I decided to settle down. I signed up for a job at the airport to do some undercover security, wandering near suspicious characters and listening in. I uncovered some incredible dealings and was awarded a batch of medals. I got married, had a mess of puppies, and now I'm just retired."
The guy is amazed. He goes back in and asks the owner what he wants for the dog.
"Ten dollars" the guy says.
"Ten dollars? This dog is amazing! Why on Earth are you selling him so cheap?"
"Because he's a liar. He's never been out of the yard."

question for the more seasoned redacted fans.
when sam is healing darlin’ and says the information he learned about quinn, he says that “quinn is pushin’ fifty, and he was turned by old blood”; i assumed that meant that quinn had been a vampire for fifty years, not that he was biologically fifty.
so like, it’s been fifty years since quinn was turned, and that’s why he’s really strong. that’s what i thought sam meant. did he actually mean that he was biologically reaching fifty?
am i being a dumbass abt this, or is it an open to interpretation kind of deal?
(also that would mean quinn and vincent are the same age and that like. freaks me out a little ngl)

I have no idea what to make of multiple people at my school thinking of me as broody/intimidating when in my mind I’m just Quiet, Weird, 5’2, and like talking about my little guys all the time

It is never addressed in the show

I got really sick after my Methotrexate injection Thursday night. I was locked in my room while Hubbins was babysitting Mandana when the washer broke so instead of giving her attention he was busy doing damage control.
Evidently Mandana thought we both forgot about her bc exactly 5 minutes past her dinner time I started getting notifications on my phone from her smart buttons. She was in the living room alone repeatedly pressing the kibble button. Poor girl 🥲

Some fun experiments I like to do - collect background characters that look/sound alike and make them related. I thought it would be fun to flesh out Dexter's friends from "D & DD" and started with the kid who plays Valerian because there was a lot to put in the mix. I tried to work back from their character names, into some kind of pun on their real names and that's how he became Leif Van Allen. His brothers are Taylor aka Surfer Boy. Their eldest brother Erik, who eagle-eyed viewers may recognize, is studying music theory in college but often is around to drive his kid brothers places. There's also their dog, who I've named Fenrir because it just completely clashes with his personality. He is a good boy and definitely can't talk and nothing weird is happening, mom and dad.

Today i got my dog those buttons you record with words or simple phrases so they can communicate differently with you and I was upset because a phone call went very bad and i was on the verge of crying
anyway my dog walked into my room, pressed the "I love you!" button, then laid down beside me.
I'm not crying, you are.

Oh jolly gosh...
There was these short episodes of a show I once watched on a VHS tape when I was a kid, borrowed from the local library, and I never found or heard from this show again until I decided to check it out recently...
Jim Henson’s The Storyteller. More precisely the season about Greek Myths. Honestly any fan of Greek mythology  should take a look at these episodes.
Why isn’t anybody talking this dope?
We are talking about Jim Henson’s puppetry. The art of the Labyrinth and of the Dark Crystal brought to the Greek myths.
We are talking about the Greek legends retold in a faithful way but simplified enough for younger audiences or people not familiar with Greek mythology, without betraying however the original material.
We are talking about a beautiful and lovely writing that recreates the grandiose and poetry of the original Greek legends, while never neglecting the emotion and humanity of the characters.
And we are talking of  mythology done right. Not turning everything “edgy” but just... retelling the Greek stories among shadows and grottos and twilights, leaving haunting mysteries about the nature of the divine and focusing on the grotesque and disturbingness of the monsters...
Seriously, these few episodes were gorgeous and haunting and so cool. I can agree sometimes the actors are a bit hammy, but even with a few bad performances the beauty of the writing and the craft of the monsters holds the episode together head up high. I mean, the scenes of Perseus’ childhood and the monologue of Ariadne to the Minotaur are moments so touching and beautiful.
I am so glad I could remember this show. I haven’t watched the other seasons but finding back the Greek Myths one made my day.
And to dog of the storyteller is so relatable X)
