regardless of what you thought of ash, I think that the pokemon anime's staunch refusal to make the player characters the characters we follow through each season was a terrible loss.

#its the perfect excuse to start from scratch #or even have one hero carry over from one season to another #Red joins Gold and Crystal in season 2 #Crystal joins May and Brendan in Season 3 #Brendan goes to Sinnoh and meets Dawn and Lucas #so on and so forth #or have a single pikachu be the connecting thread throughout the series like #Pokemon was a game about trading what if this Pikachu traveled from hero to hero #IDK #I think only having Anime-exclusive characters is... like.... really missing out #like i said regardless of what one thought of ash right #taking Game Protag's rivals and making them ash's rivals always made me upset
