Following a nearly six-year hiatus, Angel Haze is making 2021 her comeback year. The Los Angeles rapper’s upcoming EP, Girl With the Gun, is out November 19, and she’s offering another preview with the new single ‘The Altar.’ Backed by a loungey rhythm section, ‘The Altar’ finds Haze at the apex of a revelation in terms of her spirituality and her place in the universe. “‘Cause your love and your love and your trust/ Is so much it saved my day,” goes one of the track’s lines, with Haze’s voice switching between a mellow flow and gentile singing. “‘The Altar’ is a song about my reformed relationship with the divine in the world, and in myself,” Haze said in a statment. “What it feels like to reach with your life. To sing, and let things go. When I was recording this track, it felt like I was trying to lift my voice from the floor of my body. A perfect irony.” [via Consequence]
Tay Money is one of the most prominent female rappers in the game right now, and with each new release, she shows off her talent for creating catchy bangers that are filled with braggadocios sentiments. Just last month, she unleashed her new track ‘The Assignment’ which immediately became huge on platforms like TikTok. The whole song plays off of the "they understood the assignment" trend which first popped off on Twitter. Tay Money was able to capitalize on this, and now, she has a bonafide hit on her hands. With the music video for this song, Tay Money naturally goes back to a school setting, where one would typically do assignments. In this video, Tay Money dons colorful clothing all while taking on the role of head cheerleader. There are plenty of high school motifs to be found throughout the video, and overall, it is one of her most striking visuals so far. [via HNHH]

Alternative UK rapper Retropxssy's off-beat rap style may be a bit too much for rap conformists but I implore you to listen closely to really appreciate what she has to offer. It's been a while since we heard her on the cheeky ‘Double Take’ and on her latest release, ‘Wild Horse,’ she seems to have ramped up her style to new levels. The single sees her working with longtime collaborator, hairymuffinman, who crafts an ominous synth-bass-driven backdrop for the rapper to work with. The result is a self-empowering tune that sees Retropxssy imbibing the characteristics of the wild horse who runs freely without restraints. Always in her comfort zone, she adheres only to her rules as she floats on the moody beat with a nonchalant poise and sometimes off-kilter flow. The best way to put it is she has learned the rules only to break them along her journey to self-realization. [via Earmilk]
