uhhhh space au I guess? 0.6k. idk what I’m doing.
“Officer on deck!”
“Oh, shut up,” Bran says warmly, striding onto the bridge. Iö gives her a sharp little salute and turns back to their station, fingers skimming across the touchpad as the ship drifts past the outermost rings of Farwater.
Bran steps up beside Haskon where he stares out the front viewport, his hands folded neatly behind his back. The planet’s massive rings are shimmering optical illusions of ice and dust at this distance, spun sugar that belies their massive size. A faint red blip of a warning has been superimposed on the view screen, slowly drifting spinwards away from them. Bran frowns at it. “How are we doing?”
“Mm.”
She tilts an eyebrow at him. “That well? You don’t say.”
“Eye switched up their patrol route since we were out here last,” Haskon mutters, eyes fixed on the pixel blip of a patrol ship in planetary orbit. “We’ll have to run dark when we hit the next system.”
Bran’s frown deepens at that, following the vector, running the math in her head. Even running dark, they’ll be cutting it close. Not that many places to hide out in the black. “How long will it cost us?”
“Presta thinks three cycles.”
“I don’t think,” interjects Presta from her position at the conn. Iö snickers. “I know.”
With their good time skirting the Divide they’ve got a few cycles to spare, but three days–– Damn. Not the end of the world, but there goes the on-time bonus.
Bran pitches her voice to include their helmsman. Not that Presta wouldn’t offer up her two cents anyway, clearly, but Bran likes to be polite about it. Better for morale. And avoiding future pointed comments about chain of information. “Can we make up any of it?”
“We’ll catch a cycle or two when we swing round the ‘Cin gravity well,” Presta says with a gruff little shrug. “Guess that system’s good for something.”
“Or two, huh?”
“You’re goddamn right,” prickles Presta. “I’m a great pilot.”
That’s true; she is.
Bran frowns, mulling it over. They’ll miss the extra fat on the paycheck, but that’s hardly the worst outcome. They’re still sitting on the haul from Exeter; that’ll keep everyone fed and happy for at least another run from the capitol to the Scorch and back.
Not, of course, that Bran has any intention to dip through the Scorch or drive all the way in to the capital. There’s risky and then there’s stupid, and she has the good sense to know the difference between the two no matter what Haskon says.
But. They could. If they wanted to.
"A cycle late won’t kill us,” she decides. Haskon snorts unhelpfully, which she ignores with a great deal of grace and dignity. “I’ll let Reese know. And get me a schematic of the new Eye patrol routes.”
“On it,” Iö returns, flicking their screen up to sort through vector data. “Now, or...?”
“Send it to my padd when you’ve got it mapped.”
“Aye, captain.”
Bran leaves the comms op to their work. In front of them, the red blip of the distant ship vanishes in the shadow of the planet, and a knot between her shoulder blades eases slightly.
“Anything else?” she asks Haskon, watching him relax too. Good man.
He shrugs one heavy shoulder. “Doc’s started asking after new supplies. Says we’re low on plasma. Apparently people keep getting shot.”
“I’ll have a talk with the crew about that,” Bran promises wryly. Haskon doesn’t laugh, but that hardly deters her. “And a talk with Crenn.”
“Aye.”
He tilts back towards the viewscreen, report clearly finished. Bran shakes her head and clasps him on the shoulder. His head tilts ever so slightly in her direction. Bless the big lump.
“Let me know when we’re prepped for burn.”
“You’ll know,” Presta promises. Good woman. Bran grins.
Then she turns on her heel, enjoying the momentary flare of her coattails in the artificial gravity, and clatters down from the bridge to see to their medic.

…don’t split up from your brother that sounds like a terrible idea
oh god what the fresh flying fuck
i mean to be fair, it’s nice for them to figure something out on their own? I think?
DEAN OFFERS THE CAR!! AWWW!!
“take care of yourself” IS THE WORST ONE SAM WHY
1. Cas and the terrible horribly no good very bad rebellion against heaven. Seriously, he’s funny, he’s awkward, but most importantly, he jettisons things forward. Also the lil fwoosh with the trenchcoat is fun
2. enochian sigils on the ribs! Whole possessed town! end times! look the lil x ray of the sigils, the end times imagery, the demons fading in and out, the very clear Something is Wrong here and you assume demons but it isn’t was a very good lore addition! War was at least a fun villain trope and cutting off his finger and keeping the ring feels important. It felt like set up(future plots, macguffins, etc) but also payoff(why is this demon case so weird).
3. spirit in the sky! God I LOVED this needle drop! it fit the vibe well(the lil swings of the guitar, with the deserted town, the sun that isn’t blocked, the car that the radio switches off and it felt like a less good version of the Red Mustang that ends up being integral later. this one was GOOD
although I feel like they use all their needledrop money in the first few episodes of the season. If they do spend money though, it’s important so it’s good to notice it and BOY is it fun
4 Sam+Dean. I do appreciate that Sam’s introspective, that he benches himself. I think that’s a good thing, and I think ultimately it’ll again, lead into something interesting. Also, I think it’s in character that Dean didn’t say anything but offered the Impala. Same with giving up the amulet, he’s an action over words kinda guy, and you kinda see that. again, payoff for the fight, set up for the next few plots, so let’s see how this goes
right that’s all i got to say. I liked lore, I liked seeing Squad, was solid fun time
I missed Jo and Ellen so much
