A short-lived perennial Dianthus barbatus 'Green Trick' (sweet william) is usually grown as a biennial, with seeds sown in summer for flowering plants the following year. This cultivar produces unusual green globes of deeply cut petals making an unusual cut flower. Regular deadheading will prolong flowering.
This one is for the super kind @eredins-a-king-aint-he , thank you so much for the opportunity to draw Dijkstra again! Gosh, I missed this guy and universe, he's still one of my absolute faves. <3
Okay so I thought I'd be brave and post some of my art on here. This is a digitally coloured version of a traditional drawing I did a while ago. It has a special place in my heart because the conversation around it actually inspired my lovely fandom friend Stiney to write a gorgeous fic that made me cry, and my other (very talented) friend to make beautiful art based on the tattoo Buffy got in that fic.
I'm not a professional artist by any means, I paint/draw because it brings me joy and I want to spread that to other people so for people to get inspiration from my artwork?? For it to mean something to them?? It genuinely made my year.

We grow sweet Williams every year and they’re perfect as a potted plant but I don’t remember any of them looking this good on October 18. As I’ve said a number of times, Vancouver is experiencing a historic drought this year, and on the weekend we broke a temperature record going back to 1929!
Sweet William is a member of the carnation family, Caryophyllaceae, and it shares that delicious scent. Carnations have a spicy fragrance, reminiscent of cloves, and it’s a personal favorite of mine. To have this nose candy so late in the year is a special treat but rain is expected on Friday and, I’m sure, Mother Nature will breathe a sigh of relief.
As it turns out these are not wildflowers. At least not in my area. They are called Sweet Williams, thanks to @itgoesbyquickly for pointing that out on my previous post btw, and they are native to Europe and Asia. Since that last post more of them showed up in different colours. My guess is they've been in the property for a long time and just keep coming back year after year. I've also come to the conclusion that the area where they are is used to be a garden since it's also where I found the rose. According to care guides I found on Google, they need full sun so I'm impressed that they managed to bloom considering that the sun doesn't really hit that spot directly. I'm definitely gonna save some seeds once the flowers dries up to see if I'll be able to grow more of them in different areas next year.

As winter ends it is time to start thinking about plants for summer containers. This was a great one I saw last year at RHS Hyde Hall, Essex, including a planting with a central Cyperus papyrus (Egyptian paper rush) surrounded by Dianthus barbatus 'Temarisou’ (sweet william, green trick) and Pelargonium ‘Crimson Unique’.
The Skid Row Home For Boys changed Seymour’s name from William (after Sweet William flowers, a symbol of his moms’ relationship since they would give them to each other) to Seymour, which is why his mom never suspected that the cute (sort of) coworker Audrey was always talking about was her son.
