Dennis was the only Beach Boy who actually surfed, and it was his idea to base the band on the surfing lifestyle found in the band's hometown of Hawthorn, California. On August 3rd, 1963, ‘The Beach Boys’ released their iconic hit ‘Surfer Girl.’ The song happens to be the first one that brother Brian Wilson wrote and the first one he produced. ‘Surfer Girl’ the album, reached number 7 and stayed on the charts for 56 weeks…The Beach Boys are legends in American music history.

Starry Bolt - 7'2" x 19.75" x 2.625" - 14 pounds
This sleek, hollow-framed, wooden surfboard pays homage to an original Lightning Bolt shape created by Jack Shipley and Gerry Lopez.
The top deck is made from a salvaged, redwood hot tub found in Aptos, California. The scalloped lines are made for maple offcuts from Thamer Design & Woodworking in Santa Cruz, California.
The bottom deck is made from salvaged claro walnut reclaimed in Morgan Hill, California along with wenge offcuts from Thamer Design & Woodwork and sapele from a local cabinet shop.
The inlayed wooden stars in the fin were crafted by our collaboration partner Paul Jasper of Copper Pig Fine Woodworking in Framingham, Massachusetts. Paul used wood from the Ventana Upcycle Partner Program to create the stars. The red colored Doug fir is from the hull of the Western Flyer, considered by many to be the most famous fishing boat in the world. John Steinbeck, Ed "Doc" Ricketts and crew sailed this 77-foot sardine boat into the Sea of Cortez in Baja Western Flyer California, Mexico in 1940. The following year, Steinbeck published his book, The Log from the Sea of Cortez about the adventure.
The lighter wood is from the floorboards of the historic cooperage building on the campus of UC Santa Cruz. The cooperage was used to make barrels for limestone during the California Gold Rush in the 1800s. The darkest wood is ebony from Santa Cruz Guitar Company fret board offcuts. Martijn filled the gaps between the stars and the fin with a brass using a secret Ventana process.
The vent plug and leash cup are made of flame maple from Santa Cruz Guitar Company offcuts.
The rails are made of cork which is more resistant to dings. The cork is painted with brass-colored paint for a bold, shining effect. There are two sheets of Aerialite 4-ounce fiberglass on top and one on bottom. The epoxy is Entropy Super Sap 100 bio-resin which is up to 40% tree sap and is very strong and light.
This board is hollow, lightweight and will ride as great as it looks. Given the uniqueness of each side, it's two art pieces in one. Made in Santa Cruz, California by master craftsman Martijn Stiphout.
