Witches
Origins:
Since their conception there has been a rivalry laced with bitterness between the Greek god Hades and his younger brother Zeus. Though some stories paint Hades as the cause of this rivalry, the truth is that it has predominantly been Zeus whose behavior has led them to where they are now. It started when Hades chose the underworld as his dominion before Zeus had the chance to 'trick' him into it.
Over the millennia Zeus devised countless attempts to torture or otherwise belittle his brother. Persephone is perhaps his most famous attempt, and when Hades won her heart Zeus's retaliation came in the form of Melinoë. Even that disaster turned out in Hades' favor when the goddess of nightmares publicly disavowed Zeus and claimed Hades as her father.
Eventually Hades grew weary enough of his brother's plots to devise one of his own. Consulting with his beloved Persephone the two elected to enlist the help of a foreign goddess with her own grudge against the king of the Olympians. With The Morrigan's powerful magic and the blood of all three gods, the witches were first brought to life upon the earth. Gifted with immense magical power, these beings were intended to bring about Zeus' downfall. Were it not for their betrayal at the hands of Apollo, this plan might have come to fruition.
The Curse In Depth:
Upon learning the truth of the witches' origins, Zeus acted quickly and irrationally. With as much power and support as he could muster, he placed a curse upon the new species which would limit their magic in substantial ways. Though the curse has been altered over the millennia since it was first placed, it remains a largely defining factor of the species.
Originally his curse made a witch's magic so volatile that it would kill the unskilled within a matter of a handful of years after their birth. This ensured that their children would not live long enough to be trained in the use of their magic. Those amongst the first of their kind were the only ones to survive for quite some time, but to ensure that even they could not bring about the downfall of a god Zeus added a second caveat to their power: when in close physical proximity to other witches their magical energy depletes. (This meant that when a witch was pregnant they had no access to their magic.)
The intensity of this curse has been somewhat circumvented over the course of several millennia, thanks to the magic the witches' creators have woven in secret. Now even an untrained witch may live to see forty-five years of life before their magic consumes them. Those who are trained, but choose not to extend their lives through magical means will only average a decade longer than an untrained witch. For those who are willing to use magic to extend their lives there are currently 3 options: 1) Summon a "spirit" (demon, demi-god, or deity) and attempt to make a deal with them to extend their life, 2) the use of blood magic, or 3) making the transition from the use of witchcraft to the use of druidcraft.
Magic
Currently there are two major magical crafts that witches may study. Witches are not restricted to knowledge of only one craft or the other, but most will have a preference for one.
Witchcraft:
A nature-based magic which draws power from 4 major elements: earth, air, fire, and water. Every practitioner of witchcraft specializes in one specific element, but each element can be utilized in a variety of ways:
Earth magic was the primary inspiration behind the development of druidcraft, and therefore accomplishes many of the same things. Plant and ground manipulation, death magic, healing magic, protection magic, etc. Earth elements are as much natural warriors as they are natural healers.
Air magic focuses on air manipulation in a variety of ways from levitation and flight to more punishing methods of drawing the air out of lungs. It works well with weather magic, and air elements often utilize lightning in their offensive magics.
Fire elements are both destruction and rebirth. There is no denying that fire takes the cake with combat magic, especially since anything that is undead has an undeniable flammability. Even so, fire magic goes beyond the simple manipulation of flames. It covers things such as the manipulation of temperatures, the manipulation of lust and passion, and even drawing the heat from a wound or infection.
Water elements make the most proficient healers since so large a percentage of the human body is made up of water. Their magic revolves around the manipulation of water in a variety of ways. Water magic can be used to accomplish things like breathing underwater, expelling water from a drowning victim’s lungs, shape-shifting, pathokinesis, etc.
Witchcraft is the elder magical practice between the two that modern day witches utilize. It has existed for thousands of years, since the first witches were created. Because of its longevity it is well studied, and considered reliable to most witches. It remains the most widely practiced form of magical use for witches, but the curse that limits their magic has seen many begin to flock towards druidcraft.
Druidcraft:
A new nature-based magic which draws power from both solar and lunar energies. Druidcraft focuses on a variety of nature magic from manipulation of local flora, fauna, and minerals, to the manipulation of any biome a practitioner of druidcraft has had significant exposure to. While it is possible for a practitioner of druidcraft to manipulate elements of nature not native to their homes, it takes time to attune to nature that one is unfamiliar with.
Predominant usages of druidcraft include:
Maintaining local ecosystems and enhancing their growth.
Crop/plant growth (From corn fields and herb gardens to forests and other such vegetation.)
General manipulation of naturally occurring plants, rocks, minerals, etc in ways that allow these elements of nature to be shaped to a caster’s whim - particularly useful in combat situations.
Weather manipulation
A secondary form of combat magic which draws power from the sun or moon and channels it into pure magical energy that the caster can manipulate in a variety of ways. (From blasts of pure magical energy – particularly effective against undead - to enhancing a caster’s physical attributes - i.e.: strength, speed, etc.)
The manipulation of death by raising and animating skeletons which a druid may reinforce with the help of local vegetation.
Healing magic
Protection magic
The manipulation of time in limited ways. (The extent of time manipulation gives a druid the potential for a 200 year longer lifespan than that of the average human living in a first world country.)
Due to a combination of its newness and its power source, druidcraft is the only magic that is not affected by a witch’s curse. This fact is rapidly spreading through the world’s population of witches, and druidcraft has quickly gained popularity.

Looking for someone or multiple someones to bring characters with specific face claims to a supernatural creature roleplaying group based on Instagram (darkdays_rp) to play against my character. More info below the cut!
The group: darkdays_rp on insta. It’s a modern day supernatural creature RP; the profile has links with specifics about the premise, but in a nutshell, werewolves and vampires used to be at war, they came to a truce, and now supernatural creatures are known worldwide to humans. Original characters. The community is not based in a specific city, but generally on the east coast of the US.
Me: I’m over the age of 30, have been roleplaying across various platforms for at least 15 years, and primarily play M/M relationships but am not opposed to playing M/F. I prefer literate roleplay responses of at least 1 paragraph, multiple sentences — the most important thing to me is furthering the scene and not godmoding. Most people in the group will write scenes through discord or Google docs.
My character: Israel “Izzy” Lovelace, face claim Oli Sykes, a witch (specifically a druid) and tattoo artist who does magical and nonmagical tattoos. Born and raised in Perth, Australia to two moms who run a coven. He has one younger brother. He’s now based in D.C.
Face claims I’m looking for: Machine Gun Kelly (Colson Baker)**, Noah Sebastian, Tom Sykes, Matt Nicholls, Jordan Fish; Amanda Hendrick, Hannah Snowdon, Alissa Salls.

Star-crossed lovers: against an infernal witch, demon/half-demon, or other creature that destroys nature. (**Would love MGK to fill this role)
Childhood friends: They grew up together in Izzy’s mothers’ coven in Perth. They’ve lost touch over the years and reconnect and fall in love.

Younger brother: I would prefer Tom Sykes for this but anyone who looks somewhat similar to Izzy’s face claim works.
Distant cousins from the UK: Izzy’s mothers are from the UK and moved to Australia before Izzy was born. His mothers don’t talk about their families and Izzy has never known if they have any other family let alone met them.
Friendships — Childhood friends, fellow tattoo artists (magical or nonmagical), friends based in / near DC, other witches, friends/clients of his tattoo work.

Ace & Deuce
Ace & Deuce is everything you wouldn't expect given who runs the bar. A simple brick building is nothing that calls out to anyone, but despite its unassuming nature, and its cartel connections, Ace & Deuce is everything you would never expect, an eclectic mixture of many things that shouldn't make sense, and yet, oddly works well together. The exposed brickwork speaks of a place long neglected and used, and yet the perfect, odd mixture of everything else speaks much of the time and dedication that actually went into designing the bar.
Always filled with an odd mix of people, you can get everything you expect and more, and for those in the know, the back room gambling Den is something that is always packed to the rafters.
