Soft Days
So I'm not sure I'm happy with this. But hey, it's writing practice, not it has to be perfect practice, lol. And either my eyes are fucking with me, or this pink is much more pastel today than it was yesterday-

It’s a warm day, bright and sunny, and you are feeding your inner Tooka by stretching out in the sun, the grass tickling the bare skin of your arms, as you just relaxed for the first time in what feels like years.
“Sunworshipper,” You smile as you feel warm, calloused, fingers slide against your cheek. Fives’ voice is teasing, and you crack open a single eye to look up at him. He has a gentle smile on his face, and he’s holding two slushies. “You’re going to get burned.”
“Am not,” You counter childishly, taking a moment to stretch out on the grass, before sitting up and reaching for your drink.
“Are too,” He hands you both drinks and smoothly folds himself on the ground next to you, “You should let me apply more sunblock to you.” He adds with a sly grin.
You laugh and press his cold drink back into his hands, “You just want to touch me.”
“Guilty as charged,” Fives leans against the tree and motions for you to come closer. You shimmy back, and giggle as loosely grips your hips and pulls you onto his lap. He leans in and immediately presses a kiss below your ear, “Hi.”
“Hi yourself,” You lean back and bump your head against his chest, adjusting yourself just enough that you were sitting sideways on his lap and could see his handsome face.
You reach out with one hand and trace his jaw with one gentle finger, and he rumbles out a noise that would have been called a purr if he hadn’t been human. “Now who’s guilty of wanting to touch?” Fives jokes, happily leaning into your touch.
“You’re just so handsome, I can’t help myself.”
He grins and turns his head to press a kiss to your fingers, “You’re going to give me an ego, darling.”
You laugh, “You already have an ego, Fives.”
“So Echo tells me,” He agrees cheerfully.
“It’s okay, Echo has an ego too.” You add with a sly smile.
A delighted expression slides across Fives’ face, “I’m going to tell him you said that,”
“I’ll deny everything,” You reply immediately, “And you know he’ll believe me.”
Fives laughs, “True. I think he likes you more than me.”
You giggle and press your face against the side of his neck, “That’s not true. But he does like getting under your skin.” You press a light kiss just under his ear and he hums and tightens his grip on your hips.
“Let’s stop talking about my twin,” Fives suggests under his breath.
“Oh?” You ask, your lips curling up into a mischievous smile, “What would you rather talk about? Perhaps we can discuss Jesse. He is your charming brother after all.”
Fives releases an indignant noise, “Charming? I can be charming! More charming than Jesse!” He sputters.
You press your face tighter against Five’s neck, a muffled laugh slipping from your lips.
You squeak as his fingers prod your side, you try to squirm away, but he has a very solid grip around you, and bubbling laughter spills from you. “Say I’m charming, and I’ll stop.” He says with a laugh in his voice.
“Okay, okay! You’re just as charming as Jesse!” You say through your laughter, small giggles still escaping you as his fingers still. “Maybe even more than him.”
Fives grins and presses his forehead against yours, “Is that right?”
“Well, I’m in love with you, after all.” You point out, as you set your forgotten drink on the grass and cup his face with both of your hands.
“I won you over with my bad jokes and fancy hair,” Fives quips, effortlessly adjusting you on his lap until you’re straddling him.
“Well, you do have nice hair,” you reply as you slide one of your hands up into his hair, and tangle your fingers in his curls. Your other hand slides up his cheek, and your fingers linger on the scar on his temple.
“Hey,” He gently takes your hand in his, and pulls it to his lips, pressing light kisses to your fingertips, “I’m okay.”
“You’re perfect,” you correct with a small smile.
“Well, only because of you.” Fives replies with a small grin.
You shake your head and lightly bump your head against his, and you’re not the least bit surprised when he tilts his head and pulls you in for a kiss. And then another, and another.
The Galaxy is still a dumpster fire. You aren’t guaranteed forever with Fives. But right here, right now, everything was right with the Galaxy. And it’s a peace worth fighting for.
