Steve always gave Eddie flowers.
It was one of his moves from his old King Steve days, giving the person he liked flowers. He just thought it was a sweet thing to do, he always tried to make sure it was their favourite flower or a flower that reminded him of them. When he was sixteen he had borrowed a book from the library about the meaning of flowers so he could make them swoon telling them that the flowers meant beauty or kindness or grace.
He had asked Wayne what Eddie's favourite flower was, he said sunflowers he thinks it comes from Eddie's mother she always loved sunflowers before she died. Steve had remembered sunflowers meant loyalty and adoration, he thinks that fit Eddie Munson perfectly.
He wished Hawkins had a sunflower field, he knows there's one a few towns over, he and Robin drove through it once on the way to Indy. The florist in town flirts with him telling him how romantic it is to go to a flower field.
"You buying your sweetheart some flowers for Valentine's Day?"
"Yeah, they deserve something special today."
The girl seems a bit disheartened but covers it well, "A lucky gal having a gentleman like you."
She asks if he needs a card for the bouquet but Steve tells her there's no need, he can tell Eddie everything he wants to say. Any other year Steve might've gotten his valentine a box of chocolates or a teddy or balloons but he knew Eddie wouldn't appreciate those, the sunflowers would be perfect.
He took a deep breath as he parked his car before making his way up the hill to where Eddie was waiting for him. He smiled when he got to the top.
"Hey Eds, sorry I'm late, but I got you these, I know they're your favourite."
He sat down beside Eddie and softly placed the flowers on the dirt.
"I know I didn't technically ask you to be my valentine, but I like to think you'd say yes. Maybe we would've been coming up on one year together instead of one year without you. Could've taken you to that diner that Wayne said you liked to go to as a kid. He talks about you a lot ya know, I worry one day he's going to run out of stories and it'll feel like losing you all over again."
Steve takes a moment to lean against the stone and gather his thoughts.
"Robin worries about me, but I think she gets it in a weird way. I just wish we'd had more time. I mean you had just asked me out when all this went to shit with Chrissy and Vecna. I never wanted you to get in the middle of this, I should've protected you Eds. Part of me wonders what would've happened if we had planned to go out after the game, maybe you would still be here."
A light wind blows, softly during the tears on Steve's cheeks. If he closes his eyes he can almost imagine Eddie is the one wiping them away. Steve thinks about what Eddie would say if he was here. He'd probably blush at the flowers, pull his hair in front of his face to hide it but that bright look in his eyes would give him away. He'd probably giggle at the holiday, talk about how it's such a straight persons day but secretly love it when Steve kisses his cheek. They'd probably share a milkshake at the diner and hold hands under the table.
They'd probably do a lot of things if they'd had more time. Probablys don't bring back Eddie, so Steve will sit with him on the hill, the bright sunflowers laying stark against the bittersweet backdrop of their lost potential. Steve places a soft kiss on top of the headstone.
"I hope you enjoy the flowers, sweetheart, I'll be back tomorrow."

Happy one year of Vol 2 or something
Steve makes the drive in silence.
A lot has changed in the past year, but that one week was too much for him. He still can’t shake it.
Sure, some good things have happened since then. Robins about to graduate high school and they’re preparing to move to Chicago.
Robin and Vickie dated for a couple months, but that didn’t last. Robin’s with Nancy now. But Nancy is still going to Boston. They want to try the long distance thing.
Steve hopes it works out for Robin’s sake.
He hasn’t been on any dates himself. Especially since he had to come to terms with not being as straight as he thought he was.
But the guy who helped him make that discovery isn’t here. He doesn’t even know if they were an almost. If anything they were an almost almost.
Steve spent a week with him. The week in question being the one that still haunts his nightmares and surrounds all of his “what ifs”.
They all discussed coming here together, but Steve wanted to come alone.
He does that sometimes. He comes here when he needs someone to talk to.
He parks the car and takes a deep breath, clutching the bouquet of flowers tightly in his fist as he walks up the hill.
Their sunflowers. Wayne said they were Eddie’s favorites.
Steve let’s out a deep sigh as soon as he reaches the headstone.
“Hey Eddie. It’s me again.”
He brushes a hand over the cool stone and sets the flowers down in front of it as he sits down cross legged.
“So it’s been a year. I uh… I brought you flowers. Wayne said these were your favorites. I still think about you every day. That might be kinda weird considering we didn’t know each other that well but… God, I wish you were here. I wish I could give you flowers and actually talk to you face to face. I wish… I wish we were celebrating a year of being together instead. That is if I read the signs right. I uh, I really liked you man. I still do. You’re probably laughing at that. How ridiculous am I? Falling in love with a ghost.”
Steve stops for a moment and chews on his bottom lip.
He’s talked about this before, with Robin. He cried as he came out to her, telling her he wished things were different and how all he wanted to do was hold Eddie. Touch him, kiss him. Have a life with him.
She held him and stroked his hair, tearing up herself. They sat there for a while, holding each other as they grieved. As they both cried.
Steve feels his eyes well up at the memory and clears his throat.
“We-I miss you. I wish we had more time. I listen to the stories that Dustin and your uncle tell, but it’s not enough. I uh, I’ve tried moving on. For whatever reason I can’t so… So if you have any idea on how to do that some advice would be appreciated. How do I let you go, Eddie? Because I don’t think I can.”
He stops talking, taking in everything around him. A cool breeze whips past, sending a shiver down his spine. He reads the words on Eddie’s grave over and over again before he decides it’s time to go.
“I’ll um… I’ll see ya later. Happy almost anniversary. At least I’d like to think that’s what today could have been.”
He touches the stone again, taking one last breath before turning back to his car.
He thinks of Eddie’s smile and wide eyes, the way he said his name. And he doesn’t stop himself from crying.

Pairing : Steve Harrington x fem!reader
Warnings : none, pure fluff
A/N : i’m not a writer in the slightest, so i’m sorry for any errors and/or general bad writing. inspired by this text post. masterlist.
Word Count : 0,7k
Summary : Steve Harrington never had a favourite colour. It’s not that he didn’t like colours, but they were all just the same to him. Steve Harrington never had a favourite colour, until you guessed it on the first try.
Tumblr media
It was the summer of 1985, and you had been going out with Steve for about two months now. He had an off day from working at Scoops Ahoy, and he had driven you to get a milkshake (so much for taking a break from ice cream) and parked on a hill overlooking Hawkins. You two exited the car and climbed onto the hood to enjoy the view.
“You know, I’ve known you for a while now,” You took a slurp of your milkshake. “And you have never told me your favourite colour.”
“You’ve never asked.” He squints at you, trying to block the bright sun from his eyes and taking a sip of his own milkshake.
“That’s fair. Okay, what is your favourite colour?”
Steve paused for a moment before giving you a crooked grin. “You have to guess.”
You groaned and leaned back so you were lying down. One arm resting behind your head and the other still holding your milkshake on your stomach.
“Why do you have to always make things so difficult, Harrington?”
Steve shrugs and lays down next to you. He studies your twisted face as you try to think of what his favourite colour would be. You finally settle on one.
“Yellow.” You state matter-of-factly.
Steve squints his eyes and gives you an amused chuckle.
You shoot back up and exclaim, “Is it yellow? Am I right?”
Steve thought about giving you a hard time and making you keep guessing, but he also really loved the way “yellow” fell from your lips and how elated you got when you thought you guessed it right.
“Yeah, yeah. It’s yellow. You’re a pretty good guesser, huh?” He teases.
You give him a childish grin, “Mhmm, I guess so.”
Steve never saw yellow the same way after that, and it was everywhere. He first noticed how the sun shone just a little bit brighter. Maybe that was just the summer heat, but he’d like to think it was because of you. He saw yellow in the daisies scattered in the grass, and the sunflower field he passed. Even the yellow sunset seemed more saturated than he remembers past sunsets to be as he drives you back home.
Steve could barely focus the next day at work. More than usual for him.
“Hey, dingus. Can you hand me a banana for a split, or are you going to make out with them?” Robin asks with an annoyed expression.
Steve didn’t even notice he was staring at a bunch of bananas until Robin snapped him out of it. He snaps off a banana and quickly hands it to Robin. “Yellow is just a nice colour. Don’t you think so?”
“Um, yeah. I guess? Did little Stevie just discover what yellow is?” Robin retorts as she gives the order to the customer.
Steve suddenly gets closer to Robin and she gives him a look to ask, “Why are you so close to me?”
In a hushed tone, Steve asks if she can keep a secret and she hesitantly nods. “I’ve never had a favourite colour. Never in my nineteen years of living.”
“Okay?”
Steve continues, “That was true until yesterday, when I was with her.” He never had to say your name when speaking to Robin because you’re the only thing Steve seems to talk about, enough so that Robin had started tallying how many times he mentions you in a shift. “She wanted to know my favourite colour, and I told her to guess. She guessed yellow and that was it. Now it’s everywhere and it reminds me of her.”
Robin gives him a small smile, “That’s actually pretty cute, Stevie. Now help me scoop ice cream. And that’s a tally for the board!”
Steve Harrington’s favourite colour is yellow, and he associates it with that hot summer day sitting on the hood of his car drinking milkshakes. The breeze flowing through your hair, your bright smile, and vibrant laugh. Yellow is a moment in time that he wanted to live in forever with you.

————————————————————————
𝐈 𝐂𝐚𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫
You drove up to her house, parking next to her car in the driveway. You felt your mind drifting as you sat in the car for a moment. Taking a deep breath, you hyped yourself up as you walked up to the front door. You rang the door bell, trying to ignore the very gay thoughts you were having.
It's just a girl's day, Y/n, you told yourself. Calm the fuck down.
She opened the door, grinning widely. She was wearing jeans, with a plaid shirt and what looked like suspenders. Her hair was down, with curls. She looked gorgeous.
"Hi," you breathed.
"Hey. Uh, you wanna take my car? I'm not going to tell you where we're going. It's a surprise!" She smiled, and you felt yourself doing the same.
She linked arms with you, pulling you down the driveway by your elbow. She lead you to the passenger's side of her car, opening the door for you. "Ladies first," she giggled.
You climbed into the passenger seat, buckling your seatbelt as she did the same. She placed her hands—decorated with thin silver rings with dark nail polish—on the steering wheel, starting the car and pulling out of the driveway.
She flipped the radio on. “Ooh! This is a good one.”
A quick glance to the little screen showed that it was Fearless by Taylor Swift playing.
“You’re a swiftie?” You asked, glancing at her.
“Kinda. I like the country stuff, and some of the softer pop stuff.” She explained.
“You’re a swiftie?” You asked her. It was a month into your relationship, and she was driving you home.
“Something like that. I like Reputation, mostly.” Nat explained. “Not a huge fan of slower stuff. Or country.”
“Got it.” You nodded.
“Cool.” You smiled. You chuckled as she sang along to the song, you chiming in every so often.
“Fearless!” You both sang at the same time.
“We’re almost there,” she assured you after a few more Taylor Swift songs.
You’d been driving for about twenty minutes, the road a yellow-orange sand, like a baseball field, but with more random rocks and gravel. The grass on the sides of the road were a bright green, just like the hills out your window, or the trees out her’s. The scenery was beautiful, but you couldn’t help from wondering where exactly she was taking you.
Your brows furrow slightly when you saw the sign. “Westview Sunflower Farm?”
She grinned. “Yes! It’s beautiful. Trust me, you’ll love it.”
“I’m trusting you.” You chuckled, though you had to admit, you didn’t doubt her taste in..what could you even call this? Scenery? Agricultural beauty? Regardless, you were positive that you wouldn’t be disappointed.
She drove past the sign, and wooden boards standing straight up, painted brown with large sunflowers—some seemingly coming from a stem, others just in a vertical line—were stuck in the ground. They were on either side of the road, and you smiled. The people who own this place are good decorators, you thought.
“It’s cool. It’s like a pumpkin patch, but bigger and sunflower themed. There’s picnic tables spread throughout—almost like a maze, but if you’re an adult you’re usually tall enough to see over the flowers. There’s a little stand—well technically it’s a building but who cares—and the owners sell baked goods and other stuff in there. It’s awesome.” She beams fondly.
“You know a lot about this place,” you noted.
“Me and Vis would come often.” She recalled, and she was still seemingly joyful, though you could hear a hint of sadness in her voice.
“That’s awesome.” You said, because you didn’t really know what to say to that.
“Yeah.” She agreed, turning her head to look at you for a moment. She smiled warmly, pure gentleness in her eyes.
“Watch the road,” you warned. She quickly focused back on the road. You realized what you’d said, and you frowned. “Sorry. I didn’t mean for it to come out like that.”
“It’s alright.” She gave you another small smile, as she pulled into the parking lot. Your eyes widened as you surveyed the surrounding area, identifying all of the huge fields of sunflowers. You saw the tiny little food place she was talking about. The building and every sign nearby were all wooden and painted with sunflowers. There were places to take pictures, places to wash your hands, and even a small playground near the closest sunflower field.
“Wow,” you chuckled. She led you to the food stand, and you marveled at all the baked goods inside. So many treats decorated as sunflowers—cookies, cupcakes, cake pops, and more. You each got a cupcake, and you offered to pay.
"No, it's--" She began to protest.
"You drove here. Let me." You cut her off, paying for the sweets.
Letting out a sigh of defeat, she nodded. Once you got outside of the tiny shack, she linked elbows with you, leading you off into the sunflower field.
"Picnic table?" You suggested, but she shook her head, giggling.
"Nope! Even better." She led you to a grassy area, surrounded by sunflowers. It was pretty secluded, farther away from the picnic tables. She gently guided you to the ground, laying down on her back. You matched her pose, as you laid side by side.
Chomping on your cupcakes, you talked about random things. The weather. Halloween coming up. Group therapy.
"I really signed up out of the blue," she murmured. "It was a random decision."
"Do you regret it?" You turned your head to look at her. She turned her head to look at you. You locked eyes, her expression a bit unreadable.
"No," she answered after a moment. "I don't. Do you?"
"No."
"My neighbor..she suggested it one day. It was very..strange, to say the least." She chuckled.
"Yeah? Which neighbor?"
"Agnes, the creepy lady a couple doors down. She always gives me this weird feeling. Like she knows something I don't." Her expression turned dark, before she snapped out of it. "Anyway, how'd you join?"
"My old friend pestered me into taking care of myself, funnily enough." She chuckled at your response.
"My husband and I came here every chance we could when the weather was nice. Those are some of my favorite memories with him. He was smart, and gentle, and kind. We were high school sweethearts, y'know. He was nothing like any boyfriend or girlfriend I'd ever had."
"Gir-girlfriend?" You caught the words.
"Oh--yeah. I'm bisexual. Funny thing, most of the people in our therapy group are LGBTQIA+."
"Really?" You hadn't known this. How had she managed to learn all this?
"Yeah. Thor's pan, Steve's bi, both Sam and Bucky are gay, Clint's bi, so is Tony, Bruce's asexual, and Peter--the intern who works there--he's trans and bi. Maria was telling me about her wife a few meetings ago--I have no idea about Coulson, but y'know. He's at least an ally."
"How do you know all that?" You laugh a little.
"I guess I'm just social?" She smiled.
"So..any dates? Since..y'know?" You wanted to dig a hole and bury yourself as soon as the words left your mouth.
"No." She shook her head. "You?"
"Nope." You admitted.
"Maybe..I'm wrong about this." She began. "But..there's something I want to ask."
"Ask it anyway." You urged her.
"..What if this was a date?" You could hear your heartbeat as she asked.
"Then I think I'd like it." She smiled at this.
"I think I would too." You agreed. She took your hand in hers, before looking back up at the sky.
Tumblr media
"I'd like everyone to share one fond memory they have, whether that's with a person they lost, or just a memory that happened in the past." Phil Coulson prompted.
For once, you went first.
"When we moved into our apartment. Nat and I..one time, we went to the beach. And she joined a volleyball game with some random strangers. She was so damn competitive--her team won every round. I bought her ice cream afterward. Mint chocolate chip was her favorite." You chuckled, recalling the day. Nat's black bikini bathing suit, splashing around in the water, the sand between your toes.
Wanda smiled from beside you. Phil Coulson nodded, before the next person began to share.
After the meeting, the group gathered outside the building.
"Do you all wanna meet up at a cafe or something?" Wanda suggested. "How about next Saturday, at the place near Vormir?"
"Vormir's that one weird store with the guy who's always super sunburnt, right?" Sam questioned.
"Yeah," Wanda confirmed.
"I work weekends." Tony stated. Bruce nodded, before explaining that he does too.
"I'll be outta town, but you guys should go." Steve told the group.
Before you knew it, you were roped into a group outing.

Pumpkin patch: 2 Oct. Suptober
The source of the alarm seemed to be an attractive, wild-eyed woman pointing at Cas from the edge of the pumpkin patch. "You! It's you!"
deancas ust, indeterminate s11 or s12 au
"We missed the turn," Sam repeated.
"How? Where?" Dean flicked his hands at the windshield. Baby listed slightly towards the narrow shoulder and he course-corrected before they wound up in a ditch. "Nothing out here but corn and soy for fifty miles."
"And sunflowers," Cas mentioned from the back seat.
Dean shivered, thinking of those big tall plants like slumbering scarecrows, their creepy, heavy heads bowed with rotted weight. "Something sinister as shit about those flowers," he muttered.
"There's a side street up ahead." Sam leaned forward to squint hard at something in the distance Dean couldn't see yet. "Hard right."
The sign for Daily Lane had taken some damage, like someone on a tractor joyride had sideswiped it. The road itself was somehow even narrower than the county road they'd been on, and threaded up another hill of corn and more corn and, for a change, corn.
Suddenly, though, there were pumpkins.
"Oh," Sam said, doing some fancy fast typing on his phone. "Starlight Farm and Family."
"You got service on that thing again?" Dean asked as they slowly passed row after row of jack o'lantern style pumpkins growing on snaky vines.
"U-pick-it pumpkins, apples, cider donuts, coffee," Sam reeled off from whatever website he'd accessed.
"Coffee?" Cas piped up. He gave Dean a beseeching look and Dean sighed inwardly, knowing he was far too fond of that expression, and far too much a pushover in general, when it came to Cas, whom he was still looking at and needed to stop looking at and what had Sam just said about caramel apples?
"Legendary caramel apples," Sam repeated.
"If this place's so special, why weren't there signs for it way before now?" Dean steered them onto the farm's gravel driveway and into the last adjacent lot that seemed to have any empty parking spots.
Sam shrugged. "Maybe the locals give 'em so much business they don't need anyone else's." He rolled down his window and a scent of popcorn and old leaves wafted in. "Plenty of people here today."
This, Dean felt, was a vast understatement. People were pouring into the pumpkin patches like small waves, kids running out ahead of their parents with happy screams as they pounced on whichever gourd they most wanted to procure. Near a barn a line of customers waited to buy corn dogs and sodas. On the other side of the parking lot, someone had created a small maze out of a seemingly endless number of hay bales. Inside the maze, more kids bounced around, many cheating by going up and over the bales to speed to the center, where someone dressed like a giant bat was handing out orange balloons.
"I don't see how this helps us find state road 7." Cas, as ever, walked as near to Dean as possible, and Dean tried not to think about how simple it would be to put an arm around Cas's waist, all casual like, as they strolled into the festivities.
"It doesn't," Sam called out, already pulling away towards a building clearly marked Restrooms, "but so what."
He had a point.
Dean cleared his throat as soon as Sam was out of earshot. "So." He knocked his arm against Cas's. "Buy ya a cup of coffee?"
Cas opened his mouth, surely to say thank you, and was interrupted by a loud shriek and a small splatting noise, both of which passed through Dean like a ghost.
The source of the alarm seemed to be an attractive, wild-eyed woman pointing at Cas from the edge of the pumpkin patch. "You! It's you!"
Her expression, a combination of delight and astoundment, was only half matched by Cas, who'd paused to tip his head and study her, long enough Dean started to feel envious of the scrutiny.
"Mama, you smashed my pumpkin." A sweet-faced girl of maybe four or five, wearing pigtails and a Hey Ghoulfriend t-shirt, had crossed over to the woman as well, to inspect the cracked-open fruit at her mother's feet. The pumpkin had coughed up some guts in the fall. The girl pulled some out of the stringy viscera.
As Cas approached, she held out one disgusting, but very cute, hand and told him, "See, there are seeds in there and you plant the seeds in the field and then it rains and the pumpkins grow real big and then you cut them free with a biiiiig knife and then you take them home and you cut off the tops and you scoooooop out the brains and you make a, like, you make the pumpkins smile and then you put, uh, the candles in there and then all the bad monsters are frighted, um, frightened away."
All in one breath. The kid grinned at Cas like they were old friends, rubbed her goopy hands on the grass, and made a beeline for the hay maze.
"You saved her," the woman said to Cas in a hushed, awed voice. "She was just a baby." Her eyes were bright but no longer deranged.
Cas remembered something; Dean could tell by the way he took a breath of surprise.
"I'm glad I could help." Cas's voice was a little rough with emotion, Dean thought. It made Dean's chest ache.
The woman nodded, a bit tearily. When she looked down at the ruined pumpkin, she snorted a laugh. "At least the deer will have a snack tonight."
"We'd be happy to buy you another," Dean found himself saying.
The woman shook her head. "No, no, not necessary. My husband and son are hellbent on buying at least five others. I should catch up with them before they fill up the whole trunk." She bit her lip and smiled at Cas. "Was great to see you again, though." She picked up the biggest chunks of pumpkin and stacked them in the crook of her arm.
Just as she passed Dean, she said, cheerfully, "Your husband is an actual godsend," and she went on her merry way before he had a chance to register anything except agreement with the godsend part, since whatever else Dean thought about Chuck – none of it particularly pleasant – he was, after all, Cas's dad. Well. Father in a manner of speaking. Creator? Toxic boss? Whatever.
"What's up?" Sam asked, having wandered back.
"Dean and I got married while you were peeing," Cas said.
"Cool." Sam quirked an eyebrow at Dean. "You gonna get a donut or something to celebrate?"
Or at least, that was probably what he asked. Dean wasn't completely certain. The satellite linking his brain to his mouth was experiencing solar flare complications; his mental plane had definitely hit a pocket of turbulence.
"He's buying me a coffee." Cas smiled at Dean at the corner of his mouth. His eyes were kind, and led Dean back to civilization.
Dean, unable to look away, smiled too. "Sure am," he said.

Jack and reader are both famous and have a photo shoot together in a sunflower field
like the music video with post and Doja
I'm gunna add a little something to this and say it's to announce your pregnancy! Hope you enjoy
'Urb is meeting us up there but we need to leave in 5 baby' Jack yelled up the stairs
You were finishing up your make-up in your ensuite bathroom, running your lipgloss over your lips one last time before popping it in your bag and zipping it up. You stepped back, the dress you wore was fitted against your now protruding baby bump, thin straps on your shoulders holding your breasts in place which had grown slightly the last few days as your body got used to housing a baby. You gave yourself a small nod before heading down the stairs.
'Damn' Jack was stood in the entry way wearing a pair of shorts and a shirt, his hands in his pockets as he looked you up and down.
'Like?' you did a small spin
'You look beautiful baby' he smiled, pressing his lips to yours.
'Lets go'
-
Jack parked the car at the entrance to a large sunflower field, his bestfriend Urban's car was parked already and you assumed he was somewhere within the field of yellow flowers setting up for the shoot. Yourself and Jack had agreed to keep your pregnancy a secret for as long as possible, wanting the journey to be your own little thing. You'd of course told family and close friends but Jack had a tour coming up and you'd be the opening act, which meant making it impossible to hide your now 5 month pregnancy belly whilst you sang on stage. You'd agreed to do a casual photoshoot and post the pictures before the tour started, just so the announcement was on both of your terms.
'Guys!' Urban's voice pulled you from your thoughts as Jack led the way through the field, Urban was stood at the top of a small hill waving you both over.
'Looking good guys' he grinned when you approached him, setting your back down next to his large camera bags.
'How do you want us Wyatt?' Jack asked, wrapping his arms around you from behind.
'You're both professionals so just do what you do and I'll get the snaps'
Jack led you to a small clearing that Urban had made and you both began posing, Urban snapping away as you spent the next 30 minutes changing positions and getting some shots. Urban caught some amazing photos, some more posed and others very candid and caught of guard.
You did a few solo shots, caressing your bump and looking away from the camera, taking in the beautiful sunset and just being at peace.
'I love you' Jack appeared from behind you, his arms wrapping around your waist.
'I love you baby, I can't wait for this adventure' You turned your head to the side and met his lips in a kiss.
-
It was officially the week before tour began and yourself and Jack were sitting at home, both of you with your instagrams open and a pregnancy announcement post ready to go up.
'Ready?' Jack looked at you as you nodded, counting down from three and the both of you pressing 'post' at the same time
jackharlow: been cooking up a little something different the last couple months - Baby Harlow due in 3 months
yourinsta: no more baggy shirts in public, if you see me moving slow on stage, mind your business. Baby Harlow due t-minus 3 months.

3rd September 2023: Clouded Yellow and more at Old Winchester Hill
Photos taken in this set: 1 and 2. The Clouded Yellow. I am ecstatic that we saw this sun coloured butterfly flitting around the rich meadows, landing on flowers, an astonishing sight stationery and in the air flashing it's brighter yellow parts and black spots. This is for me one of our most grand, enigmatic and enchanting species, and it was a true honour to get such fine views of this one. Seeing it battle Adonis Blues and fly with Brimstones and Small Heath was exceptional. This is such an important sighting for me as my first of the species this year, my 47th butterfly species of the year and it will be the last one we see. It was a target of ours and it was just getting into being a lengthening quest to see one this year so it was rewarding to see one for another year. I am so pleased to reach 47 butterfly species seen this year, two higher than my previous highest totals. Its been a sensational few months of butterfly watching, with Clouded Yellow - ten years on from when we first ever saw one like many of the species - the icing on the cake, and it was lovely seeing Brimstones flitting around today too a nice full circle with that my first butterfly species of the year seen in Winchester back in March. 3. Hawksbeard. 4. Lovely lesser stitchwort. 5. Yellow flowers in the garden on this yellow weekend for us. 6. Actually the same photo as the first distantly centring on the clouded yellow, but I kept an un-cropped version as I loved the meadow around it including wild carrot, thistle, hawksbeard type flowers and rose hips. 7, 8, 9 and 10. Glorious views on a gorgeous day in this hot and sunny weather, I never tire of the panoramic and divine South Downs views here and having to come back after not seeing the Clouded Yellow on the (still brilliant) trip here last Sunday was a treat I love this place.
The electrifying Adonis Blues, lots of Small Heath and Meadow Browns, the Brimstones, some Chalkhill Blues, Speckled Wood, Small White and thrilling views of an excellent Painted Lady made it another epic butterfly day, with Mint moth type moths seen quickly. A dragonfly seen quickly I couldn't tell which, ladybird, cricket/grasshopper and bee were other insect highlights. We got amazing views of Kestrel once again of late with one whizzing by us before we got a good view of it on a tree, and Buzzards in the air were a delight to watch on a great day for raptors soaring high. We also saw Swallow, a Yellowhammer briefly and I heard the eerie bark of Raven. Wild basil and marjoram, ragwort, viper's-bugloss, carline thistle, knapweed, eyebright, unique views of harebells, rosebay willowherb and field/small and devil's-bit scabious were key flowers seen. Elderberries looked stunning at the car park and hawthorn berries put a red coat over the landscape. A top butterfly day, it was good to chat to some fellow enthusiasts we'd seen before too. It was good to see a Migrant Hawker out the front when home today the first dragonfly or damselfly I recall seeing at or from home. Black-eyed Susan, sedum, buddleia and sunflower looked great in the sun at home. A fantastic wild weekend.

Day 21: Rapid City to Kadoka,SD
113miles, 4,265ft ascent, 7:41
I occasionally imagine our trip as a reality TV show. It wouldn’t be competitive with The Batchelor, but it might find a following on ESPN 8, The Ocho. (That’s a joke referencing the movie Dodgeball, by the way. Don’t feel bad if you don’t get the joke, it just confirms the superiority of your cinematic tastes.) Every episode of a reality show needs something to drive the plot, usually it’s some kind of conflict between the characters or some artificial deadline (will they get the car fixed up before the big car show???).
In this show however, there’s no drama between the characters; we don’t have any primadonnas, showboaters or villains. That doesn’t mean there isn’t enough adversity to keep it interesting though. I think our reality series would basically be series of ‘Hero’s Journey’ episodes, focusing on different riders. The first episode might highlight the accident with injury that occurred within the first .5 of the trip.
My bee sting and stomach flu would definitely have earned me a starring role for an episode or two. Today’s episode would have me confessing uncertainty about whether I was ready for a 113mile ride so soon after being sick. But then we’d learn that several other riders had been sick also, and in fact two were still so ill that they were unable to check out of the hotel and depart with the group.
This episode would feature shots of endless sunflower fields, cattle pausing their grazing in curiosity as the bikers whizzed by and wary prairie dogs keeping watch above their den. The highlight though would be sweeping drone shots of the riders as they rolled through the BadLands National Park. Imagine a slow motion panning shot of the bikers with a background of incredible miles-long vistas of the Badland’s unique geological formations. I think we were all surprised by the beauty of the park. It reminded me of Bryce Canyon, minus the hoodoos.
Exiting the park, the riders naively think that with only 40 miles to go, they’d be off their bikes relatively soon. In an unexpected plot twist we learn that the wind has changed direction and is now an 18mph headwind, the temperature on the road has reached 109 and the remaining miles are all quad-shredding rolling hills! The Trek guides scramble and add an additional refueling stop, but we still hear audio from the riders quietly (and in my case not so quietly) cursing the wind and the hills.
As always, the show ends on a happy note with all riders arriving safely, this being their second longest day on the bike. Viewers are kept waiting until the next episode to learn the fate of the two riders left behind in Rapid City (even I don’t know).
Thanks for tuning in!

SIDE EVENT 020 : PHOTO OP word count: 301
jaehwa couldn't recall the last time she visited everland but everything appeared familiar. the same old hill that offered a view of the alpaca enclosure, the operational gondola seats and the intimidating t-express, a roller coaster she still had yet to conquer. however, she decided to leave the memories for later where she will enjoy an hour of free time after the fan meeting.
jaehwa stood poised in her performance outfit as the first fan approached for the photo op. her gaze instantly softened at the sight of a child trailing along. "hi, sweetie, you're so adorable!" she cooed, gracefully lowering herself to match the little girl's height. the 'jasmine' banner in her hands instinctively revealed the child as one of her fans. the frequent appearance of this banner today suggested that her fansite had likely distributed them before the event started. "shall we capture this moment with a photo?" shifting her position to stand beside the girl, she posed with her and the camera flashed.
after bidding farewell to the little one, she turned to welcome the next fan, only to gasp in surprise as a huge sunflower bouquet accompanied him. "is this for me? thank you so much!" the idol exclaimed, receiving the bouquet with a beaming grin. the two then posed for a photo before the staff took the sunflowers away from her so she could prepare for the next fan.
the event concluded shortly and jaehwa waved to the crowd as she exited the stage. the fan meeting had been enjoyable, offering a rare opportunity for her to take photos with fans without security barriers. she joined the rest of the members, eagerly awaiting the manager's debrief before they could disperse throughout the park. her heart thumped with excitement, ready to revisit her childhood memories once again.

A Spot In The Sun (Olivia Baker x OC)
Tumblr media
Summary: It’s that time where Harper and Olivia must go back to Evergreen to pay tribute to Hannah. It’s tradition, though this time it’s made just a bit more special.
Word Count: 1,002
Warnings: Angst, grief, but also a bit fluffy
Tumblr media
It was their third year making the some, long trip back to Evergreen. It had become a tradition for them at this point. Making the journey itself was something neither of them relished, but that was a small annoyance in the grander scheme of the trip. Both of them would willingly cross the entire globe on foot if meant remembering and honoring Hannah.
The first night in town went how it always did; the jet lagged pair checking into their usual hotel, solemnly quiet, wanting nothing but rest and comfort in one another's presence, falling asleep together to the sound of some old sitcom on the tv. Harper stirred a couple of times in the night, while Olivia remained out like a light the whole night through. This was also typical for them. Despite Harper's own exhaustion, she often couldn’t fully settle in during these trips back to Evergreen. Besides Hannah, the town still had other ghosts for her that she wasn’t as eager to revisit. Thus far, she had been lucky not to cross paths with any of them.
By the time morning broke, they were back to themselves, at least, as much as they ever were while they were back here. The sky was gray and overcast, threatening a light morning shower. Olivia frowned as she realized they were without an umbrella. They really should have looked at the weather before they’d packed.
After a modest breakfast ordered through room service, the two dressed and donned light jackets before going out to their rental car. They’d do nothing to prevent the rain from soaking through if they stayed out in it long enough, but the jackets at least provided another layer of protection from the cold and the wet before it reached their skin.
Evergreen not being big enough to have its own hotel, they were in the next town over, and the drive was thankfully short. They made a brief detour and parked in front of the old general store, surprised that they still maintained enough business to be open and dashed in through the sprinkles to pick up an umbrella. "You know, this almost reminds me of the night I found you standing at the end of the driveway, looking at the house in the pouring rain," Olivia commented.
"Yeah, that…wasn’t a good day for me, but I made it through, largely thanks to you." Olivia smiled sadly, put her arm around Harper and rubbed her arm reassuringly through her rain dappled jacket. That hadn’t been a great day for either of them, but they’d had each other. And Olivia thinks, just for a second, that maybe that day was why they still had each other today.
After making their purchases, they decided to walk the rest of the way with Olivia holding the large, new umbrella over them, and Harper carrying the single sunflower they’d picked out to lay at Hannah's gravesite. The soft pitter patter of the raindrops hitting the umbrella filled the comfortable silence between them. It only took them ten minutes until the cemetery was within their view. The sky looked brighter that way, like the rain was starting to let up. Once up the hill far enough, Harper caught sight of something marvelous. "Liv, look!"
Olivia followed Harper's finger as she pointed over to the cemetery. And then she saw it, the same thing that had caught Harper's eye. There was Hannah's grave, a streak of sunlight illuminating it through a gap in the clouds and it shone off the reflective surface of the polished headstone, as if Hannah was welcoming their visit. In front of the stone, where they eventually came to stand, the drizzle persisted, slow and lazy, but still there.
Harper bent down to lay the sunflower at the edge of her headstone, pausing on her way back up to let her fingers graze gently over the top of the smooth stone, the closest either of them could ever get to touching Hannah ever again. Olivia usually said a few words when they were beside her grave, but this time no words came to her. So, in the silence, Harper took Olivia's hand, letting Olivia thread their fingers together as they both looked on at the engraving they each knew by heart and the bright yellow petals of the sunflower. Each of them were lost in their own memories of her, some shared, some uniquely their own.
They didn’t even notice when the drops stopped falling on the material of the umbrella that remained above their heads. The rain had moved on to be well behind them now, and a faint rainbow had appeared over Evergreen's cemetery. Though stray tears had fallen from their eyes, they now turned to one another and shared a smile of both sadness and hope. Hannah would always be a big part of their lives, even with each additional year she was gone. She brought them together, though she never could have intended that to be the end result, they knew she wouldn’t be mad about it. How many times had she walked into the room and said, "How are my two favorite people?"
In lieu of Olivia's usual speech, Harper decided on a few words to say. "We’re good, Hannah. We miss you, but your two favorite people, we’re doing alright." It was short and sweet, but that’s really all they needed. It’s what Hannah would want to know.
Another tear fell from Olivia's eye and she leaned in, placing a grateful kiss to Harper's temple before she took down the umbrella, shaking the rest of the water gently from it. There are a lot of people who would think it’s silly to make the journey across the country to spend an hour at someone's grave before turning around and going right back home, but not them. To Harper and Olivia, the trip was always worth it. They’d leave now, but they’d be back to visit Hannah in her spot in the sun.
