Announcing: The Closure of Suibian Subs
It's never truly easy to make these type of announcements... but what would I know, I've never had to make one like this before:
I am announcing the permanent closure of Suibian Subs. The public discord server and translation work will cease.
As for our downloads, we are still deciding whether to offer them on our tumblr - which will stay open - or if there is a better solution going forward.
Please note that this doesn't mean everyone should race to upload MDZS audio drama to Youtube!! We still do not appreciate our wishes being broken.
However, if you have a friend who's downloaded the audio drama, you can have them share with you privately either online or in person. Do not upload it for the public anywhere.
Treasure Chest subs is currently working on MDZS audio drama subs. Please find their information to get access to their downloads, and respect their rules.
Thank you everyone for your kind words and support these 6-7 years.
If you're truly wondering, this closing is not about the server hack. It's 10% server hack and 90% member interest. The server being hacked is what really brought things into perspective for us. That is:
It's just time.
A little note from kittykat2010 down below:
From kittykat2010:
It's kind of hard to believe this all happened because I was impatient. LOL
I was impatient and decided to try MTL translating the MDZS audio drama, myself. We all know how well that would've worked. Luckily, the first person to contact me was iarrod before I released anything
"Since 2018, Suibian Subs has been providing quality subtitles, especially known for subtitling the MDZS audio drama, for fans to enjoy worldwide."
I never really thought it would be of such significance to hundreds of people. It was simply a passion project between iarrod and I. Then we added a bunch of other members: Gwyn, askcj1, Yen, and several more that have left over the years... and the rest is history.
Yes, people come and go, life changes, they need to take a break, then a "break" turns into leaving. Sometimes personalities clash and drama ensues. And the group either recovers from these types of changes or struggles to come back to its full glory.
I will certainly miss the camaraderie among us, the random chats, the streams, etc. It was all a fun time in my life that I will look back on and cherish.
Thank you especially to all of the team members, translators and subbing team, for sticking around, enjoying the good times and not-so-good times. Thank you iarrod for helping me out when I was so damn impatient - ha!.
Thank you to those members who have left for your work and dedication to the server.
Thank you fans!!!
Those who have donated (when we had donations for the MDZS audio drama team), those who have thanked us for our work, and those who haven't. Those who have told everyone that the MDZS audio drama is the best adaption of the novel and the best/only place to watch is through Suibian Subs.
Again, thank you everyone. Suibian Subs and its fans will truly be missed.

**Bulk Release** Copper Coins Audio Drama S2 Eps 9, 10, 10.6 and 11-END English Subbed
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hello everyone~~!! ^o^
Today’s announcement is very special~
We have a bulk release of 4 episodes!!
Copper Coins Audio Drama S2 Ep 9, 10, 10.6 (minitheatre- Black Bird) and 11 (last episode) are now available~~!!
Aand with this, we've finished subbing ALL episodes of both seasons of Copper Coins Audio Drama as well!!! In other words, the story in audio drama format is now complete~! So, don't waste even a second! Join our server and grab the files and watch and hear this amazing story~! ^o^
*********
Thank you:
Translating and subtitling 2 whole seasons of this audio drama, with ~30-40 min per episode along with the ED songs, has been a huuuge task and a lot of people have been involved in making this possible. I wish to sincerely thank them all for helping me make this happen. Firstly, nucleatedrbc, who introduced me to Mu Su Li's novel Copper Coins and also this AD of it and also translating a few of its episodes. Translators- Luuna, radishtears, iarrod, Nez, Bread (from Suibian Subs). From our group- fierychiffon, Nagi, yukirayu (for proofreading ep 11 and helping fetch CN subtitles) Subtitlers who put in a lot of time and effort in timing all the lines to the audio - Heavel Hazel (Suibian Subs), Shinkisara and ghostvalley. Lastly, I wish to especially thank our translator stormy for sticking with this project and providing translations for the entire of S2 and also many episodes of S1. Without her, we wouldn't have been able finish this AD.
There still are 3 minitheatres left of this audio drama that we are currently working on. We'll probably share them in another bulk release as soon as they get completed.
It has been a blast working on this audio drama and this story will always be very special for me because after MDZS, this was the story I read fully. Mu Su Li is a wonderful author and if you like stories which have adventure, historical setting, humorous characters and situations, little sprinkles of slice-of-life, drama and sweet moments all over, this story is definitely worth a try. There are lots of fun moments, lots of moments that make you think, lots of moments that can also make you sad. All in all, this story is a wonderful package of a journey of a proud, arrogant, but good at heart dragon, his encounter with a humble, quiet and compassionate monk and their journey together. Along the way, they make acquaintances who become very important over the course of their journey. Meetings are fated as is the case for them in this story.

To request an invite to the server, please fill up this >> request form <<

For advanced users, I’d recommend >> K-lite codec pack + MPC-HC player << Standard version or above. The player is included from the standard version onwards.
2) Please avoid sharing these files on YouTube and other video streaming platforms. If you wish to share our subbed files, please just reblog or link this tumblr post.
3) Copper Coins, Global Examination, Panguan, Qianqiu, Mou Mou, and Mo Dao Zu Shi Audio Dramas are paid dramas. So please consider purchasing these audio drama if possible in order to support the original content creators. Ep3: man but jzx is such a dick
you know I love a good jc character study and I know there's a lot of complicated stuff going on there but in ep2 it's so just relentlessly cut and dry that lwj is nice and jc is mean. and it's never more straightforward than in that episode. just wanted to get that out of the way
Tumblr media
SUIBIAN!!! HELLO BEAUTIFUL!!!
Tumblr media
wwx hardly ever uses metal hairpieces oohh
subtitles are very wordy and go quick. I'm used to watching movies and shows with subs, but I'm having trouble adjusting to this and I have to rewind a bunch so I don't miss performances and action
wwx antagonizing jzx is so funny 'lan clan is really simple, do you think you'll survive up there? you're so used to be fucking gaudy and pretentious about everything'
Tumblr media
here's my boy with his stupid fucking hairstyle and his asshole tendencies. 15 yr old lwj was such a pedantic downer
Tumblr media
aww
Tumblr media
SO interesting that jc says this despite it being demonstrably untrue. people give him shit for everything under the sun, including for things that jc does too but doesn't get in trouble for, because of his unstable role in the family and his parentage. hell, jc should know that wwx gets shit just for existing because myu is always on his case, but I think he truly believes this on some level. wwx does tend to start shit, but other people are just as ready to start shit as him and he's always willing to act for the sake of the jiangs or to stand up for others
Tumblr media
ICONIC LINE. line that made me go 'oohh he's bisexual! and his family is cool with it!
Tumblr media
SO true you legend. you king. you visionary. you cultural sensation. think about his impact
Tumblr media
fucking love this face. one of his best faces in all of canon
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it's subtle, but knowing how much lwj has changed makes it easier to notice stuff like this. lwj postres clearly did not give one iota of a shit about what jc was saying to him. but this lwj is quicker to respond, more defensive, more sensitive. he cares more about what ppl say
Tumblr media
LAN QIREN!!!!! also lzx, who embodies the word 'gracious' better than any fictional character I've ever seen
Tumblr media Tumblr media
wwx was treated so unfairly throughout this but he is literally just lying now
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I really loved this part 😊 wwx recognizing a compassionate side of lwj even as lwj tries to keep it hidden, and responding eagerly to it
Tumblr media
fuck I love the nightless city set. it's so much
Tumblr media
yoooo wen qing!! very neat to see that wrh IS the cc now. I forgot this scene and was under the impression that it was a role created post-ss by and for jgs
Tumblr media
he is so fucking dramatic standing in his one shaft of sunlight
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the untamed: jumps through verbal hoops to keep from saying dead people ever come back to life
mdzs: these are three-day old corpses and wwx just woke them up to do some manual labor for him 👍
joking aside, I truly loved novel wwx's relationship with the dead. they were like his buddies. he kissed a corpse's hand once before they went back to rest. in the show there's a lot more fluff around it
Tumblr media
things my mother also said about me.
Tumblr media
it is so kind of lxc to imply he has any friends at all
Tumblr media Tumblr media
reason no.2 wwx and lwj are soulmates: they're instantly and mutually attracted to each other by sole virtue of meeting their martial match. for lwj it's so significant that his brother immediately caught on and he felt he had to leave the conversation immediately
Tumblr media
oh what a fucking liar all you want to do is party
Tumblr media Tumblr media
okay I understand why he has secret info on the yin iron (descendent of the other xue guy) but why does he need permission to kill the changs? maybe wrh doesn't want to make a scene
personal highlights: ep3
'a mianmian or a yuandao' line
'barriers are made to be broken'
the adorable and mischievous smile of wwx's
lwj just fucking leaving the middle of a convo with his brother (first of many <3)

I haven’t extensively watched all the episodes of The Untamed (on Netflix, that is). I’m sure that right now, there are some who are wondering and worrying about the quality of the subtitles this time around, and I can at least assure you that the most of the names of the places and characters’ weapons aren’t changed to anything silly, Bichen remains as Bichen, Suibian remains as Suibian, and Buyetian is translated to the Nightless City instead of Nevernight (Yi City was changed though, as explained below). Also, there’s definitely no sight of the word “childe” anywhere and the translations use “master” or “young master” instead for gongzi, so that’s a big relief!
Still there are some translation errors that I observed when I took a peek at some of the episodes, and I’ll list them here (basically I just copy-pasted them from my Twitter) just to warn you in advance:
Shijie is translated to Yanli. A-Jie (Sis) became Yanli too.
Jiujiu is translated to Jiang Cheng. Similarly, Xiao-shushu became simply Jin Guangyao.
When anyone's called "name-xiong", the subtitle says only the name (e.g. Wei-xiong becomes just Wei; there’s not even a Brother or Bro). Sometimes it’s translated to the full name, but not as often.
Despite using Hanguang-Jun instead of "Light-Bearing Lord", Zewu-Jun instead of "Brilliance Overgrowth Lord", and Lianfang-Zun instead of “Hidden Fragrance Lord”, they still use "Red Blade Master" instead of Chifeng-Zun for Nie Mingjue. Sandu Shengshou is also kept as “Thrice Bane Master”.
San-ge became Guangyao, Er-ge became Xichen, and Da-ge became either Mingjue (if it’s Nie Huaisang) or Nie Mingjue (if it’s Lan Xichen or Jin Guangyao).
The lack of the "A-" in the nicknames (e.g. A-Xian to Xian). Although when Jiang Cheng is referred to as "A-Cheng", the subtitles use his full name instead. This also happens if the nickname is said with the suffix “-er” instead.
A-Qing’s name became simply Jing. Not even A-Jing.
There are times when someone is called “Name-gege”, the subtitles just use the complete name. For example, Xian-gege is read as Wei Wuxian. But in the scene where a drunk Lan Wangji said “Wei-gege”, it’s translated to the more accurate “Brother Wei”.
Qianbei is translated to "Master" instead of "Senior".
They may or may not be using the literal translation, but when Lan Wangji and Xichen call Lan Qiren "Shufu" the subs use "Great Master" and not "Uncle".
When Lan Wangji calls his older brother Xiongzhang (which many translators have said is a formal way of calling their elder brother), the subtitles translate it to either Xichen or Zewu-Jun instead.
The subtitles call Fairy a “wonder dog” instead of “spiritual dog”. And the donkey is called Apple instead of Little Apple despite the fact that his name in pinyin is Xiao Pingguo, which literally means “little apple”.
Yi City became “Coffin Town”.
The name of the song “Inquiry” became “Association with Spirits”.
In Episode 37, Wen Ning’s name is misspelled to Win Ning a few times.
The subtitles uses WeTV’s translation of “Frostwork” for Shuanghua, Xiao Xingchen’s sword; “Snow Flick” for Song Lan’s sword, Fuxue; and “Looming Disaster” or “The Looming Disaster” for Xue Yang’s sword, Jiangzai.
It took me a while to notice that they didn’t keep the names of Lan Xichen’s weapons Shuoyue and Liebing as is either. They used either WeTV or Viki’s translations of “Crescent” and “Ice Crevice”, respectively.
There’s the inconsistency of the terms “Yin Iron” and “Stygian Tiger Amulet”, even though in pinyin the terms translate to “yintie” and “yinhufu”, and both have the same character for yin. It would be better if they use simply either simply “Yin” or “Stygian” without randomly interchanging the term.
The Spirit Attraction Flag became the Stygian Lure Flag. Granted, this one also has the word “yin” in it, but I still should point this out.
This one might be a nitpick, but Baixue Temple (where Song Lan came from) is translated to Snow White Temple instead of White Snow temple. Sometimes arrangement is important, since someone might get the wrong idea that Disney crossed over into Chinese dramas.
For some reason, in Episode 23, when Jin Guangshan mentions Jiang Fengmian, despite clearly saying “Fengmian-xiong” I read “Fengmian Jiang” in the subtitles.
This is more of a grammatical error, but Zidian is always referred to as “the Zidian”, which is really weird since the other names aren’t referred to in such a way. Wei Wuxian’s title of the “Yiling Patriarch” gets the opposite treatment (e.g. “Is Yiling Patriarch back?” as opposed to “Is the Yiling Patriarch back?”)
There’s the recurring example when Jiang Cheng snaps and asks Lan Jingyi, “How do you know Wei is not really dead?!” This existed in the Youtube and the WeTV subtitles since months ago, and this wasn’t rectified to either “Wei Wuxian” or a plain “he” (since Jiang Cheng didn’t really mention Wei Wuxian’s name).
Even though Wei Wuxian calls Jiang Fengmian "Jiang-shushu", the subtitles have him say Clan Leader Jiang even though it's actually supposed to be Uncle Jiang".
In case you found it to be as cringey as I did, in Episode 7, Jiang Yanli and Jin Zixuan's engagement is repeatedly referred to as a troth. It's not wrong, but it gives off the same feeling as using "childe" did.
This list might be updated in the future if I notice anything else. Again, this is just to warn those with worries about the translations. Overall, when it comes to grammar, it improved over WeTV’s subtitles for sure. But some terminologies or honorifics are, as you can see, still butchered.
NOTE: If you have a Netflix account, you can file complaints about this, since when Netflix gets enough complaints they will address the issue.

Mianmian is mentioned to be from a "prominent sect" in the audio drama and though the subtitles mention her removing Jin robes that is just the fan addition from suibian subs. It's more likely her sect is aligned with the Jin Sect
Hi anon,
Thanks for the addition! ‘The prominent sect’ part, unless I’m mistaken but at this point I’ve read the parts that include MianMian very closely, is an addition by the audio drama, unless it was taken from the original version of the novel (I’ve yet to read it), so even then I still waver between considering that canon/word of god or not 🤔 (it’s a weird line because MXTX was consulted but as far as I know it’s unclear how much influence/veto power she had, whether she reviewed every single details, etc.). It’s interesting though that Suibian subs added that it was a Jin robes. Really goes to show that translation can shape our perception of a text.

Do you have a set of cql subtitles that you do like (or dislike the least), given your dislike of the Netflix ones?
(ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧ I’m dissatisfied with them all!!!
jokes aside, I’ve only seen it with the Netflix and the Youtube subs. They are both. Bad. I prefer the Youtube subs (extremely) marginally because at least they’re amusing in a bootleg anime from the early 2000s kinda way, and there’s no way you could watch them and think “ah yes, these are accurate” so there’s less chance of people coming away thinking they’ve completely understood something they haven’t. On the other hand, they border on incomprehensible sometimes TTATT
I’ve heard that the Viki subs might be okay? Can’t vouch for them personally since I didn’t watch it there, but I heard they might be the least offensive of the bunch? I believe Suibian subs is doing a resub as well, but I haven’t been keeping up with it either and thus can’t speak to how they compare ahaha. /o\
as always, if people want to chime in in the notes, feel free!

Mo Dao Zu Shi/The Untamed: A Very Quick Overview
THIS IS A PITCH for reading/watching Mo Dao Zu Shi (also known as MDZS) and/or its live-action adaptation The Untamed. There are more than one excellent rec posts floating around which touch on different aspects of this story, including this one which I highly recommend (specifically for The Untamed).
If you’re seeing a lot about it lately, it’s because The Untamed (which aired in China this summer) just dropped on US Netflix as of 10/25/19 - I cannot emphasize enough how the entirety of the show is now on Netflix - so there’s never been a better time to see just what all these gifs of pretty people are about. :D
SO WHAT IS MDZS?
MDZS is a Chinese webnovel by author Mo Xiang Tong Xiu (MXTX) set in ancient fantasy China filled with magic, murder, and intrigue. It will do its very best to shred your heart, but it delivers on the happily ever after. It also offers a ton of my very favorite tropes, including but not limited to: mutual pining (so much pining), only one bed (only one bathtub!), battle couples, and brotherly (and “brotherly”) bonds, to name just a few.
It also has a canonically gay main couple - almost the entire novel is the main character figuring out he is stupidly, desperately in love with the other male lead. If you read/watch it you will spend so much time going “Wei Wuxian you dumbass,” and I mean that in the best way possible. Wei Wuxian is the “very smart but very stupid in one specific area” trope to a T, and it’s delightful.
WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
The story follows Wei Wuxian, one of the most powerful and most divisive cultivators (essentially, magic users) of his generation, who when the novel opens has been dead for thirteen years. (Or sixteen - the show and the novel have slightly different timelines.) He’s been summoned back to enact some revenge, but almost immediately runs into a murder mystery plot, a bigger revenge plot, and his ex Lan Wangji.
Lan Wangji is one of the other greatest cultivators of their generation, and has an impeccable, unimpeachable reputation. Wei Wuxian is pretty sure Lan Wangji hates him and always has; but the minute Wei Wuxian shows up Lan Wangji grabs him and refuses to let go. What could be going on here?
(It’s exactly what you think it is.)
The story follows Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji as they travel the countryside and unravel multiple mysteries (who do these dead body parts belong to, where are the rest of the body parts, who made them dead to begin with) including intrigue that stretches back before Wei Wuxian’s death and who’s pulling the strings behind Wei Wuxian’s return. There are several flashbacks to the past that illuminate the present, and there’s also both accidental and intentional kid adoption.
It can also get heavy. There are several character deaths, inter-clan warfare (although this happens mostly off-screen), and people behaving terribly toward each other. It gets sad, and heartbreaking, but (for me at least) still in a good way. And for the stuff that doesn’t get fixed in the story’s timeline, there’s always fic - there’s always fic.
There’s a lot I’m glossing over - the gray morality, the endless flirting, the mirroring of relationships, the things we do for the people we love, the things we do in the pursuit of power, the extensive cast of characters both lovable and asshole (and often both!) - but this post is already long enough.
OKAY BUT HOW DO I GET INTO IT?
You are in luck, because right now there are so many entry points to this story.
You can READ the fan-translation of the original novel (translated as The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation) at Exiled Rebels Scanlations. If you’re looking for the story in its original framing with as much detail as possible, this is your bet.
You can WATCH the (subtitled) live-action adaptation The Untamed on US Netflix, on Viki, and on WeTV Youtube. The subtitles vary in quality, so take them with a grain of salt.
You can ALSO WATCH the donghua on Tencent Youtube (official) and from Guodong Subs (unofficial).
You can ALSO READ the manhua on Exiled Rebels Scanlations.
You can LISTEN to (and also read, because subtitles) the audio drama from Suibian Subs.
HELP I’VE GOTTEN INTO IT AND I’M TERRIBLY CONFUSED
Yes this is pretty typical, especially for a Western audience that lacks the cultural context! I offer you two pieces of advice:
1) KEEP GOING - it will make sense in the end, mostly. You can figure out a lot by context, especially with the translator’s notes in the novel.
2) I HAVE RESOURCES FOR YOU which may help contextualize some of the names, relationships, and customs. Almost certainly contains spoilers, so follow your own judgement about that:
Brief primer on titles and relationships by @fleurdeliser
Visual primer of relationships (uses donghua visuals) by @yeetlung17 on Twitter
MDZS Fandom Wiki
Searchable glossary/dictionary of Chinese terms
I could say more but this post is already long enough. Go forth, if this sounds interesting - have I mentioned it’s on Netflix? - and see just what the fuss is all about.

I won't be sharing soft subbed files from now on!!
And what is this?!?! Who gave you permission to upload this ?!?!?!
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLD7Zn6aH2JScM61oNELCkmILoSWbUAL0z
Even my solo project of subbing Little Women has been uploaded on youtube and Kissanime. God knows how many other sites it's uploaded on.
Did you guys read this post I made on our suibian subs tumblr, on how subbing works ?
-> https://asckj1.tumblr.com/post/188027845524
If even after reading this, some of you shamelessly share our subbed files or rip off videos and subtitles from them and share on file streaming websites, do you realise how rude you are being ?!?!
It takes a lot of time and effort for translators to go over dictionaries as well as search a lot on the internet for relevant references to many things in dialogues in order to provide you with accurate subtitles.
It takes an equal amount of time and effort for us subbers to time and typeset these subtitles and make videos from scratch, especially for audio dramas like mdzs or 2ha. And on top it takes a substantial amount of computer processing for re-encoding the videos. All just so that we all can watch the best quality videos with best quality subs.
And for my project of subbing "Little Women" I am doing this ALL BY MYSELF!!!! I am just now learning the language and so it's already very exhausting for me to translate this series. Do you know how much time it takes me to translate + sub one ep of Little Women? It takes me a minimum of one full week!! Sometimes two weeks, simply because I get stuck at some dialogue and then keep searching for it in dictionaries and try to google translate and such. Why can't people respect my wish for not reuploading on youtube or any other file sharing and video sharing websites?!?!?! Like we all at suibian subs have be repeatedly writing, if these videos get reported and are traced back to us, we at suibian subsvas well as myself individually will be forced to stop sharing a single thing with you all. Is that your wish?!?!?!
All the mdzs extras that our translators at suibian subs translated with so much effort and I subbed them putting equal amount of efforts were just taken as it is from my softsubs files and the English text replaced by spanish! Why?!?!?! If you want to share subs and get internet/ virtual world popularity, go make videos and subtitle files from scratch! Why rip off like this?!?! This is horrible and very disrespectful towards all of us!!
So taking into account the way in which all these things keep happening, I have deleted all links to my soft subbed files for mdzs extras and very soon will also remove all softsubbed little Women episodes too.
For future, before sharing we'll think really hard on what to share with everyone.

Dear Suibian Subs! I always wanted to ask fansubber teams: how do work? I can imagine for example some nice translater translate the raw file, then some good coder is encoding and coding the subs into the file and the proofreader is checking once in a while? And you are communicating via internet (okay this is obvious:-))...In other words can you give us a little insight of your workflow please? It must one hell of a work for you all nice people, so please take care!
Hello :)
1) We all start off by grabbing the raws. For MDZS audio drama, most of our team has purchased the audio drama seasons, so when a new episode comes out, we download the episode file first.
2) One of the translators picks it up for translation and prepares a doc file containing the English translation and a rough time at which each of these lines is said. Now while translating, for MDZS in particular, our translators also check with the original novel for reference for consistent translations. In addition, for translating “The Untamed”, since there are subtitles available for each episode, the translators also heavily use Chinese to English dictionaries for accurate translation of words. If there are references to time elapsed, distance travelled etc, mentioned in the dialogues in old Chinese measurement units, then they also convert them for us all viewers. They need to do research of this kind while translating sometimes. This is especially also true for the free talks translations, where a lot of slang is used in jokes, or references are made to different aspects of Chinese culture in general.
Once the translation is completed, they share the doc file with us subbers.
3) One of the subbers picks it up and using aegisub software, times it. In aegisub, the audio is displayed as a spectrum. It looks something like this (the green spectrum on the right hand side of the picture below)
Tumblr media
See the red and blue markers? we slide them while hearing the audio and in the comment box (the big white box) copy paste the English text the translator gave in the doc file with the rough time durations, We do this manually for each line to set the best start and stop times for each line to persist on screen corresponding to each dialogue spoken.
3.5) If we are starting with a new series or some new segment for subbing then we make a template of which fonts to use for dialogues, signs, inner though dialogues etc. This is done using the “styles manager” tool in aegisub. It looks something like this (the right side window)
Tumblr media
We adjust the font, the margins, outline size, shadow size and colours for each and save it using one name. So you see, on the left had side there’s a style called “WWX” and another called “Title”
4) While we time each sentence we also put text effects using different ASS tags of aegisubs. Text effects include fading text, moving text from position A to B, bluring text, text at an angle, etc. You might have noticed all these effects in “The Untamed” episodes we released. Since we have to manually adjust these effects to match the CN text effects as much as possible, this step becomes especially time consuming. Some text effects used in “The Untamed” are especially hard to achieve because their movements are not linear. Another thing is, we don’t have anyone as a proofreader. The subbers generally tweak the dialogues while timing them. And once we finish preparing the full subtitle file, we show it to our translators once to get an okay from them regarding the changes.
5) Once the timing and typesetting of all lines is fully done, then we do the re-encoding. For this, we prepare a video from a cover image for each MDZS audio drama episode, say. For making a video from an image there are a lot of softwares available online. I use Movie Maker. After the video of a suitable duration matching the audio duration is prepared, we then add the subtitle file prepared in step 3 and 4) and merge the audio, video and subtitle file using a multiplexer software, I use MKVMergerGUI and make an mkv first. There is no re-encoding in multiplexing step. Hence I always keep urging people to try out the mkv files as they are of higher quality.
6) Once the mkv file is generated, using VLC player, you can easily convert it to an MP4 file using VLC’s convert/stream option. This is the step where re-encoding of the video takes place and thus the step in which the original video quality (of the video prepared in step 4) degrades.
7) Finally, we upload them to MEGA of Google Drive and share with all of you on our tumblr.
Yup, so these are basically the steps. So as you can see, it takes a considerable amount of time and effort from each of us to make each episode of our subbing projects available to you. So we only expect that our hard work isn’t just shared on Youtube and other websites from where, chances of them getting reported and taken down are a lot.

Why are my subbed files being shared on Youtube without even asking?!
So, one of our group members at Suibian Subs pointed out this youtube -> https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCC65it52JtjLOR8hM4fZeoQ
I am not liking this one bit!! >:(
I spend a lot of time timing and typesetting each line of each episode I sub. And I’m doing this even though I don’t understand a single Chinese word! On top of this, a lot of thought has gone into finalizing on particular video formats and looks for the MDZS extra I’ve been subbing till now. And it also takes a lot of computer time to encode these videos.
I just want to ask, why are some people just ripping off of videos and subtitles I spent so much time and effort on and just replacing the English text in the subtitles with their language of choice?!
Please stop doing this! I don’t like it! If you want to share MDZS extras or any other projects I or Suibian subs in general works on, please just make new files from scratch! Don’t rip off from our hard work!
