Ok guys I know some of us are commuters to college and some travel fairly long distances so here's some tips!!
First things first is that you need a good backpack that has lots of room and is sturdy to last you a few years
You are an hour or two away from home so carry some medications like ibuprofen, pepto pills, allergy pills, etc I personally use a round pill organizer with compartments that screw together so it doesn't take up much room
Also a small first aid kit with some bandaids of different sizes, triple antibiotic ointment, the pill thing, pads/tampons if u have periods, a brace for any joint u have issues with (if applicable), etc
I try to bring my own snacks so I'm not stuck paying vending machine or fast food prices for a bag of chips
Carry everything you could need for class. I have my laptop, charger, a 5 subject notebook so I don't accidentally bring the wrong notebook on the wrong day, a pencil case with black pens, colored pens, highlighters (love the erasable ones), 1 or 2 sharpies, etc
I also carry ear buds, a phone charger + brick, mini stapler, tape, and anything else I might need for the classes I am taking
Give yourself about 15-30 extra minutes to get there, especially during construction season because u never know what construction could pop up
Buy the parking pass, I know it's expensive but good luck finding parking outside campus parking lots
Or don't, one of my friends said if she gets caught once a week and pays for the ticket it's still less than the parking pass but that's ur own risk
Make sure your textbooks are in your backpack before you leave. You do NOT want to be an hour away from home and find out your reading your textbook in class and it's sitting on your desk
Bring a mask even if your campus doesn't require one. When the person next to you is coughing all class you will probably want one and you can't just slip out for 10 minutes to walk to your dorm
That's all I have for now but I'm sure I'll think of more because I'm writing this on my lunch break :) have fun at college this summer/fall

📚💫 Staying Sane During Finals: A Studyblr Guide 💫📚
Hi there lovelies! As we dive headfirst into the whirlwind that is finals season, remember, you are more than just a student, and taking care of your sanity should be a top priority. So, here are some tips to help you stay grounded, focused, and most importantly, sane during this challenging time:
Plan Your Battle: Start by creating a realistic study schedule that allocates time for breaks, meals, and restorative activities. Breaking down your tasks into manageable chunks will not only boost your productivity but also alleviate feelings of overwhelm.
Mindfulness Moments: Incorporate mindfulness into your daily routine. Take a few minutes each day to practice deep breathing exercises, meditation, or even just observing your surroundings. These little pauses will help you center yourself, reduce stress, and enhance your focus.
Fuel Your Brain: Nourish your body with nutritious foods that support cognitive function. Brain-boosting snacks like nuts, berries, and dark chocolate can provide you with the energy you need while keeping your mind sharp. Remember to stay hydrated and avoid excessive caffeine, which can lead to jitters and anxiety.
Sweat it Out: Make time for physical exercise during finals. Engaging in regular workouts or even short breaks for stretching can relieve tension and boost your mood. Whether it's a quick jog, a yoga session, or a dance break, find what gets your body moving and your endorphins flowing!
Breaks are Sacred: Remember, breaks are not a luxury but a necessity. Stepping away from your study materials periodically can actually improve your productivity and prevent burnout. Engage in activities you enjoy, such as reading for pleasure, doodling, or chatting with friends. You deserve it!
Sleep Well, Achieve Well: Aim for quality sleep to maximize your cognitive abilities. Stick to a consistent sleep schedule, create a calming bedtime routine, and ensure your study space is separate from your sleeping area. A well-rested mind is more alert, focused, and ready to conquer those finals!
Ask for Support: Don't be afraid to lean on your support system. Reach out to friends, family, or fellow studyblrs who understand the struggles you're going through. Share your concerns, vent your frustrations, and celebrate your victories together. Remember, you are never alone in this journey!
Celebrate Your Progress: Take time to acknowledge and celebrate your achievements, no matter how small they may seem. Reward yourself with mini-treats, a relaxing bath, or a favorite TV show episode. Recognizing your efforts will boost your motivation and remind you of your incredible resilience.
Remember, your mental well-being matters just as much as your grades. By incorporating self-care practices, maintaining a balanced routine, and seeking support, you'll be better equipped to tackle your finals with confidence and maintain your sanity along the way. You've got this! Good luck, stay strong, and keep shining bright! 💪✨

One-Line Advice that Changed My Life
Those who matter don’t care and those who care don’t matter
You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with so choose them wisely
If they’re willing to talk shit to you then they’re willing to talk shit about you
Don’t take advice from someone who isn’t in the position that you are aiming to be in
Likewise, don’t take criticism from someone that you won’t take advice from
Often times your family will be your biggest critics and you just have to accept that and move on
The only person in your life that you will always be able to rely on is you
When arguing with your partner, never forget that it isn’t you versus them; it’s both of you versus the problem
9 times out of 10, anger is just a result of a simple miscommunication
Fact check yourself
If it’s important to you then you’ll find a way, if it’s not then you’ll find an excuse
The only time you truly fail is when you don’t try
It’s always better to feel good than to look good
You can never say “I love you” too much to anyone or anything
Longevity doesn’t always equal success
By refusing to make a decision, you are, in fact, making a decision
Applauding someone else’s success doesn’t dampen yours
A bad grade is better than no grade so always always always submit something
If you truly matter to them then they will make time
It only takes a second for you to compliment someone but for them it could last a lifetime
Similarly, negative words have just as much power so use them sparingly
Focus on the step in front of you; not the whole staircase
No one has the power to make you feel small unless you give you them that power
Your new life is going to cost you your old one; are you willing to make that sacrifice?
If you don’t think that you’re attractive, that doesn’t mean that you’re not attractive; that just means that you aren’t your type
You can’t control how people feel about you so you need to just accept that you will inevitably be the villain in someone else’s mind
Likewise, just because somebody doesn’t like you doesn’t mean that everybody doesn’t like you
Every master was once a beginner so all of your mistakes will eventually pay off
If they cheated on you once then they’ll cheat on you again, because they wouldn’t have cheated on you in the first place if they were truly happy in your relationship
It’s not a bargain unless you need it
If it isn’t a “fuck yes” then it’s a “fuck no” and this applies to everything; clothes, relationships, career options, etc.
Life is too damn short not to fill it with “fuck yes” choices
It’s up to you to give your life meaning so if your life feels meaningless, then you need to start making changes
You can acknowledge an apology without accepting it
Everyone likes to pretend that they have it all figured out when the truth is no one does but that’s okay too
Even your worst days can only last 24 hours
The only person that you should ever compare yourself to is who you were yesterday
Love isn’t just a feeling; it’s a decision, a commitment, and a choice
Your family isn’t your blood, but rather the people you would bleed for
If you aren’t willing to work for it then don’t complain about not having it
Always wear sunscreen

US University Timeline
Since the theme for any university application is TIME MANAGEMENT, here is an outline of the US University application timeline: when to start writing, when to submit, and more. Enjoy!
(NOTE: I’ll be referencing to the CommonApp only in this post, not the Coalition or Questbridge. I’ll also be referencing to the A-level timeline. And will be sharing from an International student perspective, not a US student)
(NOTE: I didn’t include UC timelines because I didn’t apply to any of them, so I don’t know any helpful tips I can give on that)
1. CommonApp Essay
Since the CommonApp prompts generally stay the same every year, I’d recommend to start writing for your essay by the summer of Grade 11 (UK Year 12). Choose a couple prompts (3-4) you think you’ve got a good story on, including the “free” prompt, should you choose to do it.
Start reading online examples of successful students for your chosen prompts, and the study the delivery of each essay. Imagine yourself the admissions officer, and ask yourself what each essay shows through writing.
Remember, delivery is most important in your essays. Not everyone can read your mind or understand exactly what you’re trying to convey if you write vaguely. Show traits that make you a valuable student: perhaps you had organised a charity for a friend with cancer (compassion, leadership), or you began a donation box to start feeding the stray cats in your neighborhood (leadership, teamwork), you vocalised your concerns about your friends’ actions (honesty, courage), etc.
2. Taking the SAT/ACT
I’d recommend taking the SAT/ACT in the second semester of Grade 11 (Year 12), just to get it over with, or if you get a low score, give enough breathing room for you to retake it.
I did my SAT in my first semester of my senior year, near my midterms, and while I did get the privilege to study for it for longer, I wouldn’t recommend it, because it was a struggle to balance both the SAT and midterms (which are important for US university applications)
3. Early Action v. Early Decision
The deadlines for these two typically fall around the end of October, results come out by December.
I personally think that in any case you should at least apply for an Early Action school (if there is no Early Decision school you’re already looking at).
Why? Because it’ll give you an opportunity to make mistakes.
That sounds quite bad, to be honest, but I had applied Early Action to a very reputable university, and realised made a bunch of mistakes throughout the essay writing, the additional information section, and even during the interview.
Mistakes in the sense that my delivery wasn’t how I’d wanted it to go, or there may have been parts where I sounded too desperate, and so on.
I definitely spruced things up by the Regular Decision round: sounding more confident, having more clarity in my answers, showing curiosity and interest rather than desperation.
4. Priority Filling
When I wrote most of supplemental essays, I did so a couple weeks near the deadline, where, then, I had only noticed the priority filling dates (e.g. Duke University).
This was a mistake on my part, and I was definitely procrastinating the writing process.
In another post, I wrote about how you should tackle the supplemental essays, and I’d definitely recommend to start doing supplemental essays the moment universities officially release the prompts for your application cycle.
If you send in your application before the priority filling dates, or at least a week or two before the deadline, you’ll get a better chance for an interview.
While, interviews don’t matter as much, there’s only so much we can show in our essays, and a good recommendation from an interviewer will definitely add character into your application.
NOTE: Official Regular Decision typically fall around the beginning of January.
5. CSS Profile or Any Other FINANCIAL AID FORMS
If you’re applying for financial aid as an international student, there are definitely many pros and cons to weigh. Whether it be a diminished acceptance probability, or the fact that there would be a mountain of paper work to fill in, that’s your choice and your family’s choice to decide.
Anyways, most likely, the form you’ll be filling in is the CSS Profile. The profile opens in October and I’d recommend to immediately start filling in what you can. I’m not sure when you’ll be reading this post, but in 2021, the profile was incredibly tedious and long, so I’d recommend to fill in what you can ahead of time, and submit alongside your applications.
After submitting your CSS Profile, however, the job isn’t done. Some schools will ask for additional information (UPenn, Williams, etc.), and SOME SCHOOLS MIGHT NOT USE THE CSS PROFILE, and have their own system (Princeton). So, make sure to check each of your university portals and list down all the additional documents they’re asking for, get it done asap, and don’t procrastinate!
NOTE: CSS Profile deadlines vary greatly from university to university, with some deadlines being in Early January (Regular Decision) to Early February (Regular Decision).
For Early rounds, CSS Profile submissions will usually fall around the same date as the application deadline.

I am a first year international student who bombed in-stream cs class so I’ll be kicked out of stream. I have anxiety disorder and this term has been too rough for me, especially due to not being able to make good connection with my classmates. I feel so sad I literally cry every time I think about it. Should I transfer to another university. Cuz I can not stay sane due to my workload. I was convinced myself that I’ll be super happy not being a cs major but now I see that cs is what I want to do
hey there,
your question has been answered! sorry for the wait... things have been off to a slooww start, but i'm back :')

I am here for something I usually don't post on this page but I feel like it's needed.
I dont like giving away too many personal details but it is evident from my content that I am a neurodivergent and disabled person.
This post goes to anyone thinking of joining architectural field.
I am a second year architecture student and just a year away from getting my bachelor's degree as an architectural engineer. While enrolling into this program I had no idea what was going to happen or what to expect due to lack of support of my surroundings and lack of general information.
My journey through university has been turbulent to say the least. It wasn't all bad things, naturally, but im not here to talk about the good ones. I'm here to point out stuff I think someone out there might find useful and that is: nobody is going to be supportive.
Yes, not even the staff.
They are there to teach us and help us achieve a goal of becoming am architect which is a noble calling indeed but they won't make it easy. Instead they're going to do their best to throw us into the darkest pits of our minds, with reminders of what failures we all are. They do not want to see us succeed. They demand precision, speed, accuracy, genius, innovative thinking, endless knowledge, clean drawings, countless projects- in other words- they demand perfection and if you dare to serve them anything less than you are- in their eyes- nothing but a failure.
I listened to countless critiques. Countless insults and jabs at me and my fellow students. Words most of us did not deserve. I had to watch as people who came happy, hopeful, healthy started to become drained, sad, sick, hopeless. It's sad. They did that to us and are still surprised we are miserable.
I see people talk about struggles with college/university a lot but I never see someone mention stuff like this. Even the strongest, most hard working, best of us are feeling miserable just bc those people who were supposed to help decided we don't deserve better.
I dont regret enrolling into my uni. I don't regret the path I have chosen. Even the neutrotypicals and able bodied people struggle. Us who aren't like them are lucky enough if we can keep up.
Take care of yourselves. Think hard about stuff like this

Hi! Can I ask you a question? I wanted to ask if it’s too late if I want to start taking studying seriously? Like I get somewhat average in class but I didn’t take it as seriously to rank highest in class. But I want to start now. Is it embarrassing? Is it gonna be a waste of time cuz it’s already in for 1/4 of the year and the mid term is coming so should I just not study as much? Idk that question might be stupid but plz lmk<3 I feel a bit embarrassed for just starting now and not sooner. Is it a bit late for my academic comeback? Cuz I know I have the potential but it’s just the effort that I lack.
heyo, thanks for the ask! It's never too late to start taking studying seriously and there is absolutely nothing embarrassing about it! You should proud of yourself for deciding to focus on your classes more!! There's no set timeline for when you should start working harder or trying to achieve your best - and the fact that you're already 1/4 of the way in means nothing because you've also already decided to make a comeback (and honestly, making that decision and committing yourself to it is always the hardest part!) It's far better that you start to focus on your work 1/4 of the way in than deciding to focus more 3/4 of the way in!
Your academic success is not determined solely by the beginning of the school year. Start working diligently now, and you can make significant progress by the end of the term - so even if you don't achieve the results you want for your midterms, that's no indication of how well you'll do at the end of the year! Work and progress and results take time, and the fact that you're actively choosing to improve yourself is already a huge step in the right direction (and never a waste of time) so be proud of yourself because it's never too late to change things! <3

Something that schools don't teach you but is much needed: how to have a work/life balance that works for you.
As someone who works fulltime and does classes and attempts a social life and hobbies, this gets very hard and stressful. But here are some tips I have for helping:
Learn to say no and not feel guilty. Picking up that extra shift when you had plans? Politely decline. Your friend is begging you to take ANOTHER class when your plate is full so you can have one together? Just be honest and say you can't.
Prioritize your sleep and eating. You can't function well if you don't sleep and eat enough. These are not things you can just push aside and do when you get the time. These are basic things you need to survive. These are literally basic needs. Don't throw them to the side. Your body does its best to take care of you. Make sure you take care of it too.
Have boundaries and be firm with them. If you tell your manager you can only work x, y, and z, don't let them add a or b to it. Respectfully but firmly let them know that you can't take on those things and if they have you do a or b, your work overall is going to majorly decrease in quality. Schedule time for yourself. For studying. For going out. And treat those set aside times just like you would if they were work or school times or appointments. You are the most important part of your life.
Understand that some weeks are going to be absolute hell. You're not going to have enough time. You're going to be exhausted and cry and throw things and want to quit everything. You got this babe. Take breaks and remind yourself how amazing you are and treat yourself after.
Prioritize things and adopt better habits. Wash your dishes right after using them. Get a set bedtime. Get easy breakfast things. Take a walk.
Your friends will understand if you just need time alone. I promise. They love you and don't hate you because you're overwhelmed. I PROMISE. And if they don't, maybe they aren't really your friends.
Not everyone is a friend. Some people are acquaintances. Some people are a 5 minute smoke break at work for your sanity. Some people are drinking buddies. Some people are library study date friends. And that's ok! Not everyone has to be your bestie. And trying to put that much energy into that many people will drain you.

• 4 classes.
Entrepreneurship: we had a group-work day. We did some brainstorming for our end of the semester project. (Basically come up with a business idea and write a business plan).
Asian History: Guomindang vs CCP or China 1930s
Physics: nice and short. The prof let us go almost half an hour early.
Financial Management: quiz. Surprisingly easy this time. It’s the first time I got a 100.
• 1h 20min on Forest 🌳 to prepare questions for the interview (another assignment for entrepreneurship class) and send out an email to the interviewee.
Also, I went to talk about my essay yesterday. TA was really nice. There was a particular thesis structure that they were looking for and that my essay lacked hence B- She told me that I can come over with my next essay and get it checked before submitting it which I will likely do. Moral of the story — not sure about something — ask!
I wrapped up most of my work today, sooo I will officially be on my spring break after I’m done with my volunteering tomorrow ✨🎆 (I need it soooo much)
Oh and my friend gave me a birthday present. A little early because we won’t see each other throughout the spring break. The cute notebook on the first photo is the gift. It was soooo nice. He is one of my closest friends in uni and I was really touched :3
