Smashverse Main Story: Chapter 1, Planet Popstar, Pt. 2
Hyoma, Mario, Link, Kirby, and Hat Kid rush their way to King DeDeDe's castle that has now been overtaken by Wario. On their way, they had to fight off various foes, mainly waddle dees. When they finally burst inside the castle, they see Wario munching on all of the stolen food, as well as Ashley, who was reading something until she heard noise.
Ashley: "Oh, look at that. It seems we're not the only ones transported here after all."
Wario: "Are you kidding me?! What type of guards Dedede keep out here?!" Angerly throws an eaten apple at Kirby's head.
Kirby: "Poyo..." Starts to cry a little.
Hat Kid: Rubs Kirby's head.
Hyoma: "Look, we don't exactly have a lot of time on us right now, so can you just return all the food you took so we won't have to beat you up?"
Wario: "Who are you to make demands of me?! I'm King Wario for crying out loud!"
Hyoma: "Does this look like the face of someone that cares?"
Wario: "Rrrrr! Ashley! Get rid of these losers!"
Ashley: "No." Opens her book again and starts reading.
Wario: "What do you mean "no"?! I'm the king!"
Ashley: "And? Unlike you, I had nothing to do with the famine you just caused in this kingdom. Why should I be held accountable for the mess you made. If you're really the king, then start taking some responsibility."
Mario: "Ahahaha Oh hoo! Ooohohoo!" Falls over laughing.
Wario: "Tch. Some friend you are, embarrassing me like that. Fine!" Switches to his Warioman outfit and takes out one of the hammers he stole from King Dedede's stash. "Time to take out the trash!"
Wario starts the fight off swinging the hammer around, forcing the group to start running and jumping out of the way. Mario at one point, sees an opening and stomps hard on Wario's head. Naturally feeling mad, Wario jumps to one side of the area and sends out a fart bomb toward the group. Hyoma quickly makes a gust of wind with his sword, sending it back, making Wairo create another one to counter it, forcing it to blow up. Kirby quickly dashes over to Wario and slams his head with his own hammer. Unfortunately, this makes Wario become spring Wario and he starts bouncing around the area, hitting Mario and Hat Kid in the process. Link takes out his tablet and uses it to freeze Wario in place. He then creates an ice block right below Wario and tells Mario to quickly melt it with his fireballs, creating a puddle. When Wario breaks free, he slips and falls on his back, making him accidentally toss his hammer over to Ashley. When Ashley notices it, she raises her wand and blows it up with a spell.
Wario: "Ashley! My hammer!"
Ashley: "Don't get mad at me for defending myself."
Wario: "That's it!" Takes out a clove of garlic. "You leave me no choice!" Eats it and starts preparing to make a huge fart blast.
Hyoma: "Oh HELL no!"
Hat Kid runs over to Wario and quickly launches him up high with her parasol. She then tosses one of her makeshift bombs over to Kirby, who eats it, becomes bomb Kirby, and throws a powerful bomb at Wario, sending him through the roof and flying away until his gas bomb finally goes off.
Mario: "Whew...that was-a close."
Kirby immediately starts celebrating by eating some of the food Wario hasn't gotten to yet. He even starts sharing with Hat Kid.
Hyoma: "Well that solves one problem, but now what do we do? We still don't know what's going on right now or where everyone else is at."
Link shrugs.
Ashley: "I believe I have one potential guess." Closes her book and walks up to the group. "Considering the nature of those portals, I take it that someone might be purposefully messing with space and time."
Link: "Uh!"
Mario: "Now that I think about it, Sonic did tell me something like this happened to him before. Something about a time eater monster."
Hyoma: "Time eater? Something is EATING time?!"
Hat Kid starts to choke a little after hearing that, making a concerned Kirby quickly pat her back to calm her down.
Ashley: "I can't say for sure, but it's not something to rule out. However, there IS a good chance that the other fighters are sent straight to other worlds much like how we got dropped off here."
Hyoma: "Great, so how are we supposed to look for everyone when we're stuck here?"
Hat Kid gets an idea. She reaches into her pocket, pulls out her keys and pushes a button. In mere moments, her ship warps over to them, right above Planet Popstar.
Hyoma: "Huh. Convenient."
Link: Gives a thumbs up.
Soon, everyone gets aboard Hat Kid's ship, thus ending chapter 1. Meanwhile, in another world...
Sora: "..." Slowly opens his eyes.
Old Gentleman: "Ah, you're awake. I was afraid you were put in a coma."
Sora: "Where am I?"
Old Gentleman: "It's...hard to say. Another world perhaps? I've been here for quite a while and I'm still not too sure, myself. Then again, you look more like you're from around here than I do."
Sora: "Huh?" Looks at himself and sees that he looks like his Timeless River self.
Old Gentleman: "I saw you lying on the ground unconscious and in good faith, I couldn't just leave you there. Not with all the ink monsters roaming around."
Sora: "Ink monsters???"
Old Gentleman: "I know it's a bit to take in after just waking up."
Sora: "Oh, I'm fine. I've been in plenty of danger before." Summons a keyblade
Old Gentleman: "...Well that's something new. At least you can fight."
Sora: "My friends can fight too. Have you seen them?"
Old Gentleman: "Young man...you're the first human I've seen since I've got here."
Sora: "Oh...that's okay. I know I can find them."
Old Gentleman: "How?"
Sora: "Don't know, but it's not like I can stay here. There's got to be a way out, right?"
Old Gentleman: "There should be. I know I still want to go home."
Sora: "Then let's travel together! My name is Sora. What's yours?"
Old Gentleman: "Sora huh? That's an...interesting name. You can call me...Henry."

Mostly spoiler free summary of my viewing experience
#The boy and the heron#how do you live#studio ghibli#ghibli#in all honesty that movie was legitimately so fantastic and im like changed as a person#Story wise as well! It hits really hard if you know a bit about miyazaki and his legacy. Its a very personal movie i think#And you can feel it in every aspect#The eng dub voice actors were really good as well and the animation was beautiful as always#Also really loved the tone!!! The story really relied a bit on the use of negative space in both sound and pacing and i enjoyed that alot#in conclusion go read a article about miyazaki and his son and then go watch the movie it’s probably going to be one of my favorites#image id in alt

can't stop thinking about tamsyn muir's choice to present her deep, morally and politically complex science fantasy world with a central web of magic, secrets and lies reaching back ten thousand years through the eyes of three characters who:
1. tune out and start thinking about hot women whenever the magic system or worldbuilding are being explained
2. experience hallucinations on a daily basis, have brain damage and are being deceived and misled by their peers, authority figures, themselves and God
3. don't know who they are, have spent their entire life in one place and are, on all levels but physical, six months old

Thief or Hero: Pt. 3
Maeve: "Here's ze intel you requested, Shadow."
Shadow Yamoto: "Thanks. Now figuring out King K. Rool's next move should be easy. He's been awfully quiet lately, so let's hope he's just after another banana horde this time."
Maeve: "I'm still not sure why you asked me to do this. Wouldn't Snake, Joe, or Samus have been better fits for zat task? In fact, you yourself could've handled it no problem, Miss Eternal Champion."
Shadow Yamoto: "All three of them were preoccupied and if I really could've done it myself, I would've. I need to keep in touch with other members of White Orchid in case of an emergency."
Maeve: "Are zhere any members around here in Smash?"
Shadow Yamoto: "No, but we ARE looking for new recruits. In fact, a certain someone highly recommended you for the position."
Maeve: (Zat damned kitten...). "So is zhat what zis is about? A trial for me to see if I'd fit in to your heroes gallery?"
Shadow Yamoto: "No, but if it was, I'd say you'd pass with flying colors. Whether or not you join is up to you."
Maeve: "I'll pass. I'm not up for being a genuine hero."
Shadow Yamoto: "You sure? I hear quite often about all the smiles you give whenever you managed to help someone out, like when you filled in for Axel at a concert because he caught an upset stomach."
Maeve: "I was offered extra pay to fill in and...I just like music."
Shadow Yamoto: "You were having quite the ball for someone who "just likes music"."
Maeve: "Ugh. Whatever." Leaves
Shadow Yamoto: "...So, what do you think? Is she really coming around?"
Joe Musashi: Appears next to Shadow. "Hard to say. She may appear to be warming up to us, but if it's like how it's for her back in The Realm, it could just be another job."
Shadow Yamoto: "I agree. Honestly, I'm amazed how much faith Tracer has in her. I wonder why. Is she just that determined to just help or...could Maeve remind her of someone back home?"
Joe Musashi: "Your guess is as good as mine. Still, Tracer should be more careful around her. After all, we both are well aware of the harsh sting of betrayal..."
Shadow Yamoto: "..."
Later...
Maeve: "..." Starts remembering her time with the Paladins as she walks about.
Evie: "Hey guys! Look who I brought!"
Maeve: "Would you unhand me already?!"
Ying: "Maeve! I'm so glad you could join us!"
Sha Lin: "Come and sit with us! We're celebrating another victory for the resistance!"
Maeve: "Why should I join you? I'm only here because you're paying me remember?"
Talus: "So's Pip, but he's partying like there's no tomorrow." Points at him gulping down some booze.
Makoa & Buck: "CHUG! CHUG! CHUG! CHUG! CHUG! CHUG! CHUG!"
Maeve: "Well unlike him, I don't really want any part of zis civil war you got going on."
Evie: "You say that, but aren't you on the Magistrate's shit list right now? Would be real bad for you if they end up winning."
Maeve: "I'm used to zhe odds being stacked against me in life."
Cassie: "But what about everyone else who might not be? Don't you want to help make sure no one else suffers a dire fate at the hands of the Magistrate?"
Maeve: "Being a hero doesn't pay bills kitten. Zhe moment I realize you're lacking funds or when I find a better gig, I make my leave."
Sha Lin: "So we're just a job to you then. Nothing wrong with that I guess. We all have our reasons for doing something, right?"
Evie: "Yeah, like me! I just want to live a normal life and make friends without having to blow everyone up."
Maeve: "And how's zat treating you?"
Evie: "I didn't blow anyone up yet, did I?" Winks
Cassie: "When I watched my friends join in the fight, I did everything I can to be with them. Not only because I wanted to see outside Greenwood, but because I want to help them. I couldn't just sit back and let them handle it on their own."
Talus: "That's what friends are for, right?"
Maeve: "People come and go. It's best not to get too attached to anyone."
Ying: "Maeve! How could you say tha-"
Cassie: "It's okay Ying. I think she speaks from experience. But, while that may be the case, it's still worth all the memories we made together, right?"
Maeve: "...maybe..."
Evie: "Hmm?"
Maeve: Gets up. "Apologies, but I've grown tired." Starts walking away. "See you in our next mission."
Evie: "Hey, don't leave without me!" Runs after her.
Cassie: "Maeve..."
Back to present time...
Maeve: "Memories huh?"
Out of nowhere, a paper slaps Maeve in the face.
Maeve: "Les baies de sureau du grand père! (= Great father's Elderberries!) Who's the andouille (=dummy) zat left zis-" Takes it off and looks at it. "Hmm? A wanted poster? For...Sora???"

Alfred is getting up there in age. It's time for him to go see the Ghost King, and uphold his end of their deal.
He tells Bruce that he needs to return to England for a bit, to meet up with some old friends.
Gets the Manor prepared for life without him.
And as he's standing in his room, luggage packed and ready to go, Bruce knocks on the door.
"You don't have any plane tickets purchased," Bruce starts, looking concerned.
"Indeed, I have not."
"There's no correspondence between you or your friends to indicate a visitation."
"I suppose I should have expected your insatiable curiosity would lead to that breach of privacy," Alfred sighs, resting a hand on his luggage.
"...Where are you really going?"
Alfred doesn't answer. Bruce has dug enough, and perhaps he deserves a little confusion.
What Alfred does do is snap a small, glowing crystal. One that looked like Kryptonite, but was not.
A portal opens before him, and before Bruce can reach him, Alfred calmly steps through.
The portal shuts behind him.
He turns to face the Ghost King.
"Ã̵͙̤̚͜r̶͓̓ȇ̵̢͝ ̸̝͂͠ẙ̶̘̳̿o̷͈̎͋̽u̵͈̔ ̸̖͉̔ṛ̸̅̀͆e̸͉̓̂͒a̴̻̓͝d̵̬̉̏̉ỳ̶̬͂̕?̴̼̈́͗̀"
Alfred nods.
The Ghost King's face breaks out into a wide smile.
"I believe I have put together a menu that will satisfy you, My King."

Two months later sees Alfred being given another crystal, and a portal opened for him back to the Manor.
Alfred steps through, a bounce in his step and not a speck of grey in his hair, looking for all the world like he's twenty again.
Now, how is he going to explain this to the very sleep-deprived looking Master Tim sitting on his bedroom floor, staring at him with unfocused eyes?
Or: Alfred made a deal with the Ghost King when he was twenty and dying in the remains of his ship, just after the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.
If he can cook food the King has never tasted before, and keep it up for two months, the King will put forward his case to the God of Time and rewind him to the point in his life three days before he was grievously wounded.
Basically, he gets to go back to being a 20 year old.
He staves it off for as long as he can, often getting quite elderly, before breaking that crystal and serving two months of full courses to the King of the Dead.
He hasn't told anyone this.

thinking about how the extra area added on to a pacifist run of undertale, the true lab, is about alphys's past mistakes. how it ends with the story reaffirming that, despite the pain she's caused, the thing that matters is that she has now made the choice to do the right thing. she's still worthy of her friends' love.
thinking about how undertale doesn't expect the player to get a pacifist ending for the first time. how it's more likely than not that the player will kill toriel the first time they battle her, how lots of players don't initially figure out how to end undyne's fight without killing her, etc. what it expects — not even expects, really, but hopes — is that the player, if they care enough, will use their canonically acknowledged power over time to make up for those mistakes.
no matter how many neutral runs a player has done before committing to the pacifist run, the thing that matters to the characters, to the story, is that you've chosen, now, to do the right thing.
compared to alphys, the player honestly gets off lightly, in that you're the only one (other than flowey) who really remembers any harm you might have caused. and any direct guilting the game could have done about it is long past at this point.
instead, as undertale often does, it makes its point via parallels: alphys caused harm, and she knows it. she has committed to being better. in doing so, she has unlocked for herself a better ending to her story. and she deserves it. she's forgiven.
those structural narrative parallels are all over undertale, if you know where to look. and that's one of the things that makes it so fuckin' good.
