There is a lot of parallel between Enid and Tyler. There situations with their parents didn't treat either one kindly. But Tyler became a bully where Enid became caring.

Every story beat involving Tyler shows Wednesday making the wrong move where the ones with Enid have her making the right move. Yeah Tyler was the bad guy so duh, but from a story standpoint, the push and pull between Enid and Tyler is great.

She involves Tyler leading to the guys at the fair coming after her, leading to bumping into Rowan and then the Hyde killing Rowan. She shows Faulkner's journal to Tyler, he distracts her, Thing gets stabbed and they lose the journal. Wednesday goes to the dance with him and leaves Eugene unprotected, and the Hyde gets him. She brings him to the Gates house, he scares them off as the Hyde.

~As opposed to~

She asks Enid about Rowan, leading to discovering the nightshades library. She helps during the Poe Cup and has a vision pointing her in the right direction. Switching assignments on Outreach day let her protect Eugene and push her towards figuring out who Goody was. Enid helped her get out of the school to go to the Gates mansion, and she got the garage door open and she found Laurel's room, before the Hyde could scare them off. Enid pointed out Tyler was closing the Weathervane the night she kissed him and had the vision of him being the Hyde. She saved Wednesday from the Hyde.

There are other parallels between the two besides their push and pull in the story. Wednesday cared about both of them, expressed herself more to both of them. They both took her to Crackstones crypt for her birthday. They have the same scar on opposing sides of there face. I'm sure there is more.

Tyler was always the negative choice. Enid was always the positive one. I think Tyler would bring her down a darker path where Enid makes her a better person.

Writing Tips: Write A Story In 6 Beats

Need something quick to outline your story with?

Here is a simple structure that combines all the popular beats in all the popular structures:

Normal World: Establish the protagonist’s everyday life, as a baseline for their growth throughout the story.

Inciting Incident: A significant event propels the protagonist out of their normal world.

New Journey: The protagonist makes a decisive choice that escalates the conflict and drives them further into the new world.

Midpoint: A major turning point that raises the stakes and pushes the protagonist to a new level in their journey.

All Seems Lost: The point of no return where the protagonist is at their lowest.

Climax: The final conflict the protagonist overcomes to achieve their goal.

Bonus:

New World: Provide closure to the story and protagonist’s growth.

If you want more meat on these bones, add subplots that setup these beats. Or subplots that setup those subplots. Or new characters with their own minor arcs.

Character exploration sketches of Fox McCloud's parents: James McCloud and Vixy Reinard

Some context + backstory: James has been a combat pilot in the Cornerian Defense for a few years when gets promoted to a specialized leadership role. He is stationed in a military base nearby Corneria City to complete his assigned training for this new position; this where he encounters Vixy Reinard, an engineering student who interns at a laboratory in the city.

This is actually the first time Vixy and James speak to one another!! Before, they had only exchanged glances and nods to and from work.

Vixy is immediately smitten with James, but tries to keep her cool around him. She insists she is not interested in romance at the time, convincing herself that it would be a distraction; and James, having a reputation of being a "playboy" type, would just get bored of her, anyway.
