"No Cop City / We will get revenge"
Graffiti painted during a #StopCopCity protest in Madison, at the Wisconsin State Capitol in response to the police murder of Manuel Teran aka Tortuguita, an Atlanta Forest defender who was shot and killed by cops on Wednesday.
The Atlanta city council plans to clear the forest to build a massive police training facility dubbed "Cop City".

why compare when you’re so uniquely different?
you are not your friends, you’re not your family, you’re not the person you compare yourself to. you are you. you are a beautiful limitless human being who has the opportunity everyday to become the person they want to be. you have the power to create the changes you want to see in life.
don’t hurt yourself more with all these comparisons to people who have never been in your shoes, who have no clue what has happened in your life. you’re beautiful and creative with a completely different voice than the others.
we are all on different paths in our lives, some of us are finding ourselves everyday, experimenting with different thoughts & beliefs. some of us are ready to finally take that leap of faith and just go for it, some of us are still left pondering life decisions. IT DOESN’T MATTER. what matters is what we decide to do with our lives, what we truly want in our lives and what we want to see in our lives because at the end of the day we are the artists and we decide what canvas we’re going to paint on.

On showing up for yourself as a writer
I've learned, since starting my writing journey a month or so ago (or at least picking writing back up again) that if you want to truly be a writer, you gotta show up for yourself. For your story. For your characters. For your dreams/goals. For your future, published self. You gotta give your story and characters a chance to live.
And no magic spell or writing advice from your favorite author will write that draft for you. EVERY AUTHOR SAYS THE SAME THING.
READ
WRITE
RINSE AND REPEAT
Now.......................
Write. That. Damn. Book
😊

Family member: "We worked so hard and sacrificed so much to grow you, the least you can do is take care of us the same way we took care of you!"
Idk if this is toxic or not, but sometimes it really feels like it. My family member is a senior and they expect me to sacrifice my life to take care of them as they age. On top of that, their expectations are absolutely unrealistic. They want me to work full time, earn a six figure salary, keep up the house, take care of them (almost as a nurse) and achieve much more than every random person they see and compare me to. While, all they did is go to school, work and eventually get married. It really feels unfair to have such unrealistic expectations and be toxic towards me because those expectations are unachievable.

I just need to rant for a sec.
I genuinely don’t understand how or why SJM (and the fandom) puts women against other women so often. Especially Elain. Poor thing is constantly compared to her sisters, to her friends, to her sisters’ friends. Like why? Why can’t we all agree that no two people are exactly alike and that’s okay?
I have no issues with Gwyn. I don’t see her and Azriel as a couple.. or not a lasting one at least (their personalities clash too much for a long-term relationship) but I don’t hate her. Do i think she’s a little childish? Abso -fucking-lutely. But I honestly kind of like that. I like that she’s unabashedly herself.
I’m a fully grown adult and there are still things from my childhood that make me giddy: I never miss an opportunity to watch Disney’s Hercules, Mulan, Aladdin, or Robin Hood. I’ll still watch them wide-eyed, and sing along. I LOVE dinosaurs and if you ask me my favorite it will change with my mood. The scene in ACOSF where the Valkyries have a sleep over? I WISH I could do that (my friends are spread out too much now). It must have been so cathartic for the three of them to experience something they missed as kids.
All that being said, the problem I have with the gw*nriel ship/ G stans is that there is a constant need to put Elain down in order to lift Gwyn up. They’re different characters with different backgrounds and different strengths/weaknesses
Gwyn is loud and outspoken. She’s excitable and determined. Her strength is defined physically. None of this is bad!
Elain is not a confrontational character. Whether it’s from her upbringing or her own volition, she prefers the background instead of the spotlight. She’s shy and quiet. She evaluates before running headlong into something. She has a “different kind of strength”. While both characters are kind, Elain’s transcends what is considered kindness for high society-going as far as treating their staff as people rather than ‘the help’, and respecting them as people. (And I will DIE on the hill that Nuala and Cerridwen are not just staff for the IC, but valued and beloved friends of Elain).
She sees the good-seeks it out-and regardless of how deep it’s hidden she always finds it, and holds on for dear life. To be so kind, so loving, so willing to search for something beautiful regardless of her station in life is truly a strength. As well as her ability to see past the outward appearances of those around her. The fact that she has more feminine hobbies and ideals isn’t a bad thing either. That’s just what she likes! Femininity is not a crime, and I for one look forward to the day that we have a heroine who’s not a fighter. It would be a nice change of pace.
I know these are characters in a fictional series. I know that they have a lot more rounding out to do to make them multi dimensional (can’t wait for Elain’s book for her growth), but we real live actual people not in a book….as far as we know.. can’t let ourselves think like this because it bleeds over into everyday life. I don’t want to be compared to anyone but the me I was. Compare me to me. Compare past Elain with present Elain. Compare past Gwyn to present Gwyn. Stop comparing them to each other. It’s just not cool

Beauty Within
I find you very beautiful
sometimes I wonder why you don’t admire yourself exactly the same that everyone else admires you?
You are so perfect
but you worry so much about others and how you don’t like exactly like everyone else?
You are amazing
Then you start to doubt yourself while you should be amazing if there are other people?
You are smart
But then you don’t know the definition of a big word and you tell yourself that you aren’t?
The greatest musicians weren’t born with the talent of being great you know?
They had to build that skill over time so they can become great.
You need to be patient with yourself and understand that you are growing just like everyone else.
You are amazing in your own ways just like everyone else.
You are smart just like everyone else.
You deserve to find that beauty within yourself because it already exists in you.

Comparison being the thief of joy or whatever
I know it's silly of me, but I'm literally still on my first draft and I keep comparing it to other author's published works. I know it's unfair to me and my novel. And I also know that published stories have gone through rounds of rewrites and edits, and it's primmed and polished before it gets printed. But I just can't help myself. I feel anxious because I keep wondering if I can even get there. I don't know why I put this unnecessary pressure on myself, but here I am.
I'm sure I'm not the only one on this one either, but for all my authors/writers, how do you shut that voice in your head? ✨
