love a fictional character who will scowl and tell people “I’m not sick” “I’m not hungry” “I didn’t get injured”
meanwhile he has an extremely high fever, he ate some soup last week, and the blood is soaking through his jacket

A character with the mentality, if I’m not dead I’m fine. They hold out under torture, go through extreme conditions like starvation and dehydration, and don’t shrink back from danger. Every time they feel themself getting scared they rebuke themself, sneering contemptuously at the fact that they would even think to act frail when they know better. Getting hurt is never a problem for them. It can’t ever be a problem for them because they have to.
Even if they do start to sniffle a little when they’re alone out in the cold, rocking while cradling a broken bone, knowing no one is coming to help them.

stoic whumpee prompt
The silent crying.
Whumpee has their bruised, bloody hand clamped over their mouth to muffle the sound, or they’ve buried their face into Caretaker’s shoulder, or they’re biting into a gag while someone does field surgery or sumthin, idk.
But they’re sobbing. Completely silent, except for occasional, sharp intakes of breath that seem to tear them apart. The tears. The smothered whimpers. Oh my oh my. This is my happy spot. Right here.
I will not stop with this Stoic whumpee thing now will I?

caretaker and whumpee are enemies.
one day whumpee is hurt and caretaker is there to help them. whumpee’s too weak to protest (and quite frankly, they’re thankfully smart enough to know they need caretaker’s help, even if it wounds their pride), but they do indeed growl and snarl at caretaker like a wild animal, to let caretaker know their acceptance of caretaker’s help does not mean they surrender. it is more childish than it is intimidating, actually, so caretaker just ignores whumpee’s attitude and continues tending to whumpee’s injuries.
only that there’s a spot caretaker misses. whumpee is too prideful to directly say anything, so for caretaker to see that one cut they miss and for caretaker to be able to tend to that cut for them too, whumpee smoothly shifts and moves their limb until the cut caretaker misses is properly exposed and is noticed by caretaker.

exhaustion whump
literally the best thing ever
A enemy soldier trying to fight back but too weak and hurt to do anything but squirm or flinch as they are captured. Roughly with carelessness for their useless struggles or gently understanding that they can’t do any harm in this state.
hanging from ropes. When they are released they flop into the ground, unable to support themselves.
a defiant whumpee looking up with fear and exhaustion. Just weakly glaring and twitching away from whumpers hands.
being pinned to the ground by someone much stronger and more skilled than them. Giving up and stopping struggling because what’s the point? It’s not like they can win this fight.
A soldier dragging themselves to their feet. Bone tired and shaking but too stubborn to give up.

Dialogue Prompts for Stoic Whumpee™️
“It’s not a big deal. They didn’t do much.”
“The scars are none of your concern. Don’t look at them if you don’t like them.”
“What happened? Nothing. Nothing worth complaining about.”
“Hey, hey, are you with me? It’s okay, take a deep breath. I know what to do— you’re going to be okay.”
“I don’t like short sleeves. And I don’t like your questions.”
“I didn’t flinch then and I didn’t flinch now—fuck—fine— when someone raises their hand close to my face, what do you think i’m going to do?”
“At one point, it was just me and the cliff. And the wind. Loud, that night. But—well, I’m still here, aren’t I?”
“I’ve said too much.”
“If I’ve learned one lesson, it’s that trust should be sparsely given. Remember that, my friend, next time you try to leave a knife in my ribs.”
“When we go in there, I’m going to act different. Yeah, it’s all bravado. We’re going to pretend we like the bastards, and then we’re going to rob them.”
“Shut up. You don’t know what you’re talking about. You never did.”

Whumpee's mind is really fucked up and they never voluntarily show it.
But the circumstances do.
(Cw: magical whump, mention of waste fluids)
----------------------
An Empath that they freshly met strongly refuses to even be in the same room with Whumpee. No one understands why except of Whumpee themself.
A Mind Reader tries to get inside Whumpee's mind for some reason. Focuses, closes their eyes, places a hand on Whumpee's forehead. But then sudenly gasps, breaks the connection and runs out of the room to vomit.
There's some terryfying situation that makes all of the Teammates freeze in mindless fear. Whumpee however stays focused and takes actions to protect the rest. Because Whumpee's used to being in constant stress and fear.
"I trade my magical services for human memories. Pick one person from your group to make the sacrifice of their past. Anyone except of that guy over there. I don't want theirs."

the vulnerability of having to ask someone to help bandage a wound, or check a painful spot over. maybe it's on their face or head and they can't see it themselves. maybe it's on their back and they can't reach it. maybe their off-hand is the only one that's working and that's not enough to tie off a bandage or put pressure on the bleeding.
or maybe they've tried, and tried, and tried to deal with it themselves, because there's no good reason why they can't; but the pain and the dizziness are just getting to be too much, and their hands are too shaky now, and their eyes blurry as they try to focus. and so there's nothing else for it but to crawl out of their corner and say I need help in whatever words come to them.
and whatever shame there may be in the act for them, there's also a strange sort of relief, that there are other hands ready and waiting to help them.

Whumpees who would rather be tortured than ask for help.
They can handle beatings, floggings, illnesses, and other violence. They can help others. But someone helping them? Oh hell no. Never.
Whumpee is so paranoid of being seen as weak that they would rather suffer to their own negative thoughts. If they do need help, they make excuses and overwork themselves just so they don't feel shame.
Whumper takes full advantage of their fears. They ask if Whumpee needs medical assistance or mental support and they just start panicking. Whumper loves it.
Whumpee does not.

Whump Prompt #1323
Anon asked:
Do you have any prompts for a usually funny and hides insecurity behind humour/a strong character being poisoned/drugged and being forced to be vulnerable around others? Usually they’d always have a joke or a bright idea on their tongue, but now they can’t really form coherent sentences right now as they’re delirious.
I have a few - great concept!
I can imagine that it's deeply unsettling for the caretakers to experience this at the very least. Because it's so out of character for them.
^ As a result of this, maybe the whumpee tries to escape medical/hide away to avoid subjecting the caretakers to this. Despite how upsetting the situation is, the caretakers are more overrun by worry than being put off by the whumpee.
I like the idea of the whumpee becoming frustrated, because their brain is working at a snails pace, they're struggling to be understood, they're uncomfortable and unwell, but it feels like everyone is crowding them. It gets a bit much for them.
"[whumpee]'s quiet." It's two words that have the other caretakers stop in their tracks. Quiet and [whumpee] do not go together.
Maybe in a fit of delirium, they reveal things about themselves/their past that they've kept to themselves all these years.
^ bonus points if it's their insecurities. The caretaker could say something along the lines of "...you're kind and funny...", to which the whumpee responds: "I have to be... if not you'll realise just how useless I am and you'll want me off the team."

i want to take a stoic whumpee in my hands, dig my fingers into their cold outer shell, and crack them open. i want to see all those emotions underneath their skin. i want to see how much force it takes to break them. i want to see them completely, utterly, destroyed.

Sudden Collapse *Team Leader Edition*
Come on, pull yourself together.
Leader leaned his hands on the table, squinting at the map sprawled across it and blinked a few times as it blurred in and out of focus.
"Leader? You were saying..?" Teammate Two prompted.
"Right," he started again, ignoring how the room span as he lifted his hands from the table. "So if we plant charges on...on the..." his voice trailed off, his thoughts slipping through his mind like sand. He dug his nails into his palms, willing himself to concentrate.
"You alright, boss?" Teammate One asked, their brow creased as they stepped closer.
"Fine," he dismissed as the team exchanged confused and concerned glances.
Just wanting to get through the briefing, Leader took a slow, deliberate breath before continuing. "If we plant charges on the w...west generator, that should... should buy us- enough t-time to... to..." Leader stumbled through his words, his sluggish mind unable to navigate the fragmented thoughts as another wave of nausea rolled over him.
He vaguely registered a muffled shout from Medic.
"'m fine," he slurred, reaching out for something to stabilize himself as his body swayed dangerously. He hadn't even realized he was falling until his head slammed against the floor.
"-oss? Boss!"

Give me Whumpees that are less defiant and more resilient. They've taken their licks. They know the rules. They've survived and they will survive. Because they've given up their dignity long beforehand.
If the master says beg they beg. They might even do a good job at it if they're experienced enough. They know just how much to scream. How to breathe. How to weather the storm.
But they don't know how to live. To laugh. To open up. They deflect. Or are short and to the point. They survive.
Resilient whumpees

Caretaker: "Whumpee, are you okay? I thought I heard you crying last night."
Whumpee: "I wasn't crying, my eyes were just watering excessively and my nose was stuffy."
Caretaker: "...."
Whumpee: "I suppose I was also making sad noises."

today’s whump trope for your writing:
stoic whumpee who would never make a sound, no matter how severe the torture they were put through was, eventually gave in and broke down when they couldn’t take it anymore.
the thing is that, the second they broke down, they couldn’t stop crying and whimpering and begging incoherently for the pain to stop as they curled in on themself on the floor, body trembling out of control.
