You ever watch a Sam and Max video essay in the middle of your college cafeteria thinking it be something nice and short and end up bawling your eyes out in front of five people. Can someone please relate.

As fun as it is when people write the Emperor as someone who has his shit together and functions as An Excellent Specimen of a Mindflayer, this alien mastermind who can act like a mentor for illiThav, I have a fondness for the Emperor as like
this absolute wreck of a person.
Mindflayers are supposed to stay with their colony for like 20+ years to learn All The Things Mindflayer and we know Ansur stole him away long before that (I think he said 12 or 13 years). And then put him through what was meant to be cult deprogramming, but probably was just an unfortunate mixture of torture (mental isolation and I can see a measure of starvation added to it) and instilling every insecurity known to man. Guilting the squid not to act squiddy wasn't very effective on the long run, but it sure must have been traumatizing - might even be the reason why the Emperor made such a decisive cut between his old and new identity. We don't know how long Ansur tried before he gave up, but probably quite a few years, dragon sounded like the stubborn sort.
So we have 1. possibly not fully socialized/introduced to the culture in its fullest and 2. some years of being forced to act as close to his old human personality as possible to placate Ansur. 3. continued social isolation where he only interacts with humanoid races, often indirectly at that.
So I like the idea that as the result of all of that he's not really pretending when we meet him properly, he's Just Like That. Not the part about being on top of things, gods know people wrote stories about how he talked his way out of all sorts of nonsense with pure bullshit, he could probably sell beachfront property in the Hells if he tried. Just, his personality and mannerisms as an ungodly mixture halfway between illithid and human, he's just the weirdest squid. Not human anymore, no, but acting and thinking overall too human compared to other mindflayers and he might not even be fully aware of it because he's been isolated from his kind for the last several hundred years. Even post-Absolute he might not know how weird he is, I somehow can't see the elderbrain reintegrating him into the colony when he's clearly defective. Say thank you to Gortash for being curious about his business rival or the Emperor would be past tense.
Anyway, I really like Weird Squid Emperor and I want to put him in a room with Omeluum so nerd squid can take notes and be amazed at this trashfire of an illithid, I think that would be a cool scene actually.

Here's a headcanon I've had for awhile but just now finally fleshed out.
So basically, in Splatoon, music is very powerful. This is canon to a degree, what with the Inkantation, but I'm talking all music. The Inkantation is the most powerful, allowing the Agents to take out the various final bosses. However, other songs carry power as well. For example, Fly Octo Fly/Ebb And Flow has immense power as well, as seen in the end of Octo Expansion.
This also explains the massive boom of Turf Wars during Splatfests, as the music naturally urges cephaloppds to fight.
The song power also scales with various things. Firstly, it scales with fame, but it can also scale based on how personal the song is. For example, EAF doesn't have as much a effect during Splatfests, but paired with Fly Octo Fly, the song written for Eight, it has a much more potent effect. Another example of this is how Spicy and 3Mix Inkantation were both customized towards their respective Agent, making their effects even more potent. This could ALSO explain why Inner Three is so much more powerful; the original Inkantation plays, which is her own theme, therefore making her more powerful
This also leads me to the creatures who sing these songs. When a group is chosen to be the designated Idols, their bodies will undergo a transition. Their tentacles, pupils, and fingertips will change, marking them as Idols. These Idols are capable of producing the most powerful music. The reason Deep Cut doesn't have all of features is due to the fact that they are primarily treasure hunters, using the title of Idol as cover. It could also be because Big Man is the most powerful entity in the Splatoon universe, and therefore inherits all the special features.
However, not just Idols have these effects exclusively. For example, most of the cephalopods, and creatures in general, depicted as songwriters have some sort of change differentiating them from standard ones. Also, this explains why Octavio is both so powerful, and why he is so large and inkless.
Overall, Splatoon music lore is weird and wacky but really cool at the same time.
Anyway thank you for listening to my podcast, I'm here every never, hope to see you again.

Them doing to squid game the same thing they did to the hunger games by commodifying, monetizing, and editing it’s messages to make it more marketable for resale through merch and spin-off content is some kind of symbolism of the machine of capitalism operating in consistent patterns to get the same results because it’s working and ya :/

“Ugh this [insert popular nu-metal band or slipknot] is just TikTok music for posers”
Sorry but the main demographic for any metal band is divorced dads with a sauce fridge. You just don’t like seeing teenage girls being teenage girls

Honestly I think what is more upsetting about these results is just how many people thought it was going to be more even than it was. I fell for it too! The sneak peek looked so close, the half time report even closer, but then...
...it kinda stings, y'know? It shouldn't have been like that. All the games I played, it felt even. I played just as much against Big Man, I thought. It definitely didn't feel like we were such a small cohort. It didn't feel like there were 55% Shiver. It felt genuinely equal and to find out it was nowhere near is soul-crushing.

it’s important to note that whatever versions on timber you have in your head, there is no universe in which bernard does not love to ramble and tim does not listen intently to his ramblings. there is no universe where bernard does not ramble and tim does not ask pertinent questions at the end like it’s a lecture and tim needs to get an A.

Its crazy how people who think it is ok to breed snakes that will be born with severe health problems is ok because pretty colors will whip out the “what about dogs” defense. Like yes??? No animals should be bred if you know that they will be born with health problems. If selective breeding results in an animal that is pretty/cute but its fucked up physically or mentally, then fucking stop breeding that goddamn animal regardless of if it is a snake or a dog or whatever.
Also fuck people who compare animals like pugs or spider ball pythons to people with autism. People with autism do not live their lives in pain as a default and were not selectively bred like wtf.

I've been thinking a lot about "Eat The Rich" movies and stories recently, after watching Salt Burn, and I'm starting to wonder what other people mean when they say "Eat The Rich". It seems like it's mostly catharsis, they want to see retribution against the wealthy, which I have no issue with, but it often seems like all that it is.
They want to see billionaires on pikes, and these sort of stories do that, but there is rarely any sign of the systems that create the power/wealth disparity are being destroyed.
Salt Burn kills their wealthy characters but at the hands of someone who wants to usurp them.
The Menu has a Chef who has grown resentful that the definition of a successful chef is serving the elite instead of serving the best food to the masses. So he kills some rich people, and himself. That doesn't change anything.
In Knives Out, the working class protagonist ousts the wealthy family, but now she's the one with access to wealth and nothing changes.
These films are a little like the Becky films (Becky and The Wrath of Becky), films I have previously labelled as popcorn films for Anti-Fascists. Simple, uncomplicated Neo-Nazis getting killed in satisfying ways. It's catharsis. It's validates our values.
But saying your favourite film is a popcorn Anti-Fascist film or a popcorn "Eat The Rich" film isn't activism, it's fandom. Even if you show those films to your conservative friends or family, I doubt it's going to challenge their worldview.
"Eat The Rich" is a threat when shouted at the Rich and Powerful, not as much of a threat when you're yelling it at a fictional version while giving money to Jeff Bezos while watching Salt Burn on Amazon Prime. And the end goal of "Eat The Rich" should be the dismantling of unequal systems of power, not just cathartic violence.

More fandoms need to incorporate Genwunners (originally used to describe a Pokémon fan who only likes the first gen pokemon games), into their vocabulary.
Like no one gives a damn that you prefer 80s anime
No one cares that you think gen 3 of monster high is bad
No Trekkie wants to hear your opinion on the newer shows and movies
SOME OF YOU NEED TO REALIZE YOU ARE GENWUNNERS!!!! TAKE OFF THE NOSTALGIA GOOGLES!!!
