My new wheel arrived! I ordered myself a spinolution pollywog, I've wanted one for years, and I finally committed. Took it for it's first spin outside while my husband worked on his car. I'm spinning stinging nettle, which I'd never spun before.

It's been awhile since I got to spin anything. This is a lovely Rambouillet from Zen Fiber Arts. Unnamed colourway, but she said it was her ode to fall when I bought it. I've never spun this breed before, and the fiber is super soft and has a nice staple length. I've got two more hanks, and then I'm going to ply for a nice squishy 3-ply. Maybe it'll be a hat.

April: opposing plies!
Ok so chaos gremlin that I am, I have started spinning despite not having committed to a single plan. I have 3 plans on an index card: 1) basic s & z singles plied s for knitting, 2) s z z plied s for stretchy hard wearing sock yarn, 3) s s z plied s to find out why only energizing one of the singles is the "rule". What fucked up yarn will I create and will 3 be twice as stretchy and hard wearing as 2 or will it just be a nightmare to work with?
Notes for first singles, already have a good start on my bobbin: s, flyer 2 (middle whorl on flyer), drive biggest (biggest whorl on drive wheel), accel 2 (middle whorl on accelerator wheel) (it's a spinolution queen bee). This ratio is FAST, I am spinning pretty fine :D

Kit’s Tour de Fleece Projects
I’m really happy with how my Tour is going this year, so I thought I’d share project updates here as well :) For those who don’t know, Tour de Fleece is a spinning event that runs annually at the same time as Tour de France. The only rules are to spin yarn and have fun, but lots of people set personal or team goals - my goal this year is to spin (and ply & finish) 24oz of fiber over the 24 days.
I’m primarily spinning on Orlaith, my older Ashford Traveller - she’s a single treadle but uses the clear nylon conrod joint, which means it’s probably from the late eighties or early nineties as far as I can tell (just like me!). I’m doing a lot of my plying and at least one singles project on my sib’s wheel Dáithí, a new-to-us SpinOlution Pollywog. And, of course, on days where I’m not well enough to be upright spinning, I have my usual assortment of supported spindle projects placed strategically throughout the house, but I’m not necessarily tracking those for Tour ;)

Abbreviations:
ch – chain stitch
dc – double crochet (2DC = 2 double crochets in same hole)
sl st – slip stitch (Insert hook, yarn over, pull through stitch, and loop on hook)
COLOR 1:
Ch 4, join with sl st to create a ring, ch2.
Work remaining stitches into center of that ring as follows:
2DC, ch 2, 3DC, ch2, 3DC, ch2, 3DC, ch 2, join to first ch 2 with sl st
Cut yarn, weave in end.
COLOR 2:
Join new color in one of the corners as shown in the video, just not the same one you ended color 1 in.
In 1st corner: Ch2, 2DC, ch2, 3DC
In 2nd corner: 3DC, ch2, 3DC
In 3rd corner: 3DC, ch2, 3DC
In 4th corner: 3DC, ch2, 3DC, join to first ch2 with sl st
COLOR 3:
Join new color in one of the corners as shown in the video, just not the same one you ended color 1 in.
In 1st corner: Ch2 (counts as first DC), 2DC, ch2, 3DC
In side spaces: 3DC
In remaining corners: 3DC, Ch2, 3DC
Join to first ch2 with sl st. Cut yarn, and weave in ends.
ADDITIONAL COLORs: Repeat as with color 3 adding however many rows you would like, making sure to do (3DC, ch 2, 3DC) in each corner space, and (3DC) in the side spaces.

I took an entire 24 hours to myself with no work (okay, maybe I had to respond to a handful of work texts/emails) knitting or computer work. I SPUN! I carded these batts last spring, I have over 2 lbs to spin. This is the first almost full bobbin. TONS more to spin, but long draw makes the extra fine weight spin more quickly than I expected. And of course, after the house went quiet I got on the computer and worked for 3 hours. But, that means more work knitting time + ME time the rest if the week. Stepping away from work is always a struggle for me.
