ZKBB 2024 Basic Guidelines
What is a Big Bang?
A Big Bang is a collaborative event where writers are paired with artists and beta readers to write and edit a long fic with accompanying fanart within a specific period of time. In a traditional Big Bang, writers come up with their own story idea, and artists and betas bid for places on writers’ teams based on the story ideas submitted.
What are the story requirements for this Big Bang?
All stories should be centered around Zuko and Katara and their relationship.
Oneshots should meet a minimum word count of 6,000 words when completed, and multichapters should meet a minimum word count of 10,000 words before the end of the event.
Stories must be rated G or T on AO3
Big Bang fics must be new, standalone works. No continuations of existing series or published WIPs are allowed.
Story ideas should be secret before the start of the event to allow for fair, anonymous project bidding.
What are the roles and expectations for this Big Bang?
Writers will be expected to come up with their own story ideas, meet word count checkpoints throughout the event, share their progress with their team, and communicate with their team and the mods as needed.
Artists will be expected to create at least one finished piece of art for their project(s). Any type of art is welcome. Artists will be asked to meet several checkpoints throughout the event, and should share their progress with their teams as the event continues.
Betas will be expected to work closely with the writer and provide advice and feedback as the story is written. All beta readers should be able to provide SPaG feedback, and may be asked to provide additional support with plot and other creative decisions.
Other information
All participants are required to be active in our event Discord server. Work space within the event server will be provided for every team, and separate servers for individual projects are not allowed.
Members who are inactive for three consecutive weeks may be dropped from their project(s) or the event as a whole.
Members who miss formal check-ins (see our event schedule for dates) or fall behind on their progress will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.
Members are welcome to announce their participation in the Big Bang, but should not discuss specifics about their project(s) publicly until after posting begins (or for writers, after the reveal date).
Use of any AI text or image generators is not welcome in the Big Bang.
Additional role-specific information will be posted over the next few days! Feel free to contact us with any questions.

Welcome to Sugarfest: A Sugar Daddy Harry Fest!
This is an art and writing fest to celebrate one of the most underrated sugar daddies in fandom: Harry James Potter.
Fiercely loyal and protective towards those he cares about, Harry would make for a dream sugar daddy. He's absolutely loaded, and as we've seen, he's willing to drop 1000 galleons at the drop of a hat.
Coupled with his natural charm and good looks, it's not hard to imagine Harry Potter as the ideal sugar daddy, one with both the influence and the financial means to take care of his loved ones.
Heard enough? Sign-Up Here!
Want more information? Read on!
Tumblr media
🧁 Fest Information:
This is a self-posting fest for written works and fanart.
Only those over the age of 18 are permitted to participate.
What counts as Sugar Daddy Harry Potter for the purposes of this fest?
All works must feature a main pairing with Harry in a sugar dating relationship with someone that's his age or younger. Sugar dating is when a wealthy older partner provides a financial resource for their sugar baby.
As this is a sugar dating-themed fest, all works must contain on-screen dating content between the main pairing (T-rated or higher).
Any named characters within the Harry Potter universe are okay to feature within the main pairing. AUs are allowed (in other words, characters do not have to be their canon-accurate age.)
There is a minimum word count of 500 words. Multi-chaptered works are okay. Works should be unique to this fest.
Written works must have undergone a SPAG (spelling, punctuation, and grammar) check.
Prompts can be submitted via the AO3 collection. Please sign-up as a creator prior to prompting. Self-prompting is allowed.
Creators do not need to claim a prompt to participate in the fest.
Check out our AO3 Collection for full details.

hi i’m a newbie writer. and i just love your writing? could you give any advice for me on how to be a better writer?
Hello hello! I'm so glad you like my work! I can certainly try to offer some advice, but like all writing advice, take what might be helpful and leave what isn't; everyone has their own preferences and workflow.
I. Write. A lot. - I was a casual, sporadic writer for a long time, but when I decided I really wanted to improve, I just wrote. A lot. All the time. Doesn't have to be every day (some advice says that), but put words on the page regularly. You'll be rewarded by seeing improvement as you go along! It might take weeks, months, or years, but keep at it.
II. Read the genres you like/authors you admire. - This can be fic authors if that's your goal or published authors, as long as you enjoy their work and aspire to tell stories like they do. Your stories will never be the same as theirs, but you can learn a lot about structure, prose, and pacing from reading.
III. Your first stories might not be up to the standard you aspire to, and that's okay. - My earliest stories on AO3 are from when I was a teenager (written pre-AO3, actually). They're rough; they're clumsy. I haven't deleted them because people left kudos and bookmarked them, but they're also part of my writing journey. I put a note on them that I wrote them when I was 16, but I didn't remove them. Remember: You don't have to post your early work! Keep it for yourself until you're excited enough to share.
IV. Get excited about your work. - Everybody loves the validation of kudos/comments, but before you venture into posting, love your own work. If you can barely contain your excitement to put your story out there, that's the right zone. Regardless of the interaction, that story is in your heart and you're proud of it.
V. Write out your thoughts for a story. - If you're a daydreamer with all your plots coming to you in the shower, write them down after. Could be an outline, could be one sentence. A list of ideas or plot points/scenes might also help you break a block. (I'm not actually a daydreamer myself. I brainstorm ideas when I'm sitting at my computer with a page in front of me to record them, so grain of salt this one if it's not your workflow.)
VI. Try different things. - Start with the genres/tropes you like, but don't be afraid to experiment. Never thought I'd write a flower shop AU, but I did it. Write canonverse. Write historical AUs. Write based on prompts or art. See point #1: Write. A lot.
VII. Find a writing group, if possible. - The interactions I had with my friends during the height of my fandom period (2016-2019) pushed me to be better, consistently. They gave ideas, but were also betas who weren't afraid to offer some critique (behind the scenes, not in public comments). Make sure you trust them. It can take a while to build up trusting relationships with your group, but when they respect you and support you, their feedback will make you a better writer. IMPORTANT: Always state your expectations of a beta (e.g. what kind of feedback you want on what parts--SPAG, plot, pacing, characterization--and how you would like to receive it--gently, blunt, Google Docs comments or just some thoughts after they read.) Good feedback is not harsh, but given out of honest care and support. Break a beta relationship if they aren't helpful.
IX. One last thing: Everyone was a newbie at some point. Everyone. Through hard work, excitement about their own stories, and self-compassion throughout the slow process of improving, they did. And so can you.

Artist sign-ups for the Stranger Things Reverse Big Bang are now open! Sign up using the link! We can’t wait to see what you’ll create!
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: What is a Reverse Big Bang? A: A reverse big bang is an event where authors and artists collaborate with one another. The way it works is that people sign up to be an author and/or an artist. Then we have the authors pick their favorite art piece and we pair them with the proper artists. The pairings work together to create a story for the artwork it’s inspired by.
Q: What kind of art can I create to participate in this bang as an artist? A: Art can be created using any medium that you like.  All we ask is that it can be recorded and shared so that authors can preview it before claims.
Q: Are there specific characters that I need to include in my art in order to be eligible to submit it for the bang? A: So long as the art features at least one character that is featured in the Stranger Things show, it is eligible.
Q:  How long do stories need to be in order to be eligible for the bang? A: We are only asking that stories be a minimum of 3k words.   There is no maximum word count.
Q:  What is a beta reader? A: Betas are people who will read a story and give constructive feedback to the author before they post. Most betas specialize in certain things, like SPAG (grammar), characterization, emotional flow, alpha readers (those who read to make sure it all works, mostly plot-conscious) research, or pickers. Pickers are people who are experts in particular fields (ex. Medical pickers could be those who have been in medical school and can help you create a realistic scene or offer advice in that department).
Q: Do stories need to be beta read? A: Yes.  You are welcome to use your own beta or reach out to someone in the bang.
Q: What is a pinch hitter? A:  Pinch Hitters are authors who step in when someone has to drop out. There are a lot of unknown variables in a big bang, especially with the lengthy schedule. It’s hard to plan ahead when you’re not sure what your workload will be, which makes it hard to stay in the bang. Authors sometimes can’t keep their initial workload and would have to drop out of the bang. It happens. That’s where pinch hitters come in, to take over the abandoned art.
Q: Does my art have to be completed prior to claims? A: We ask that art be about 50% complete prior to your submission for claims.  We understand that creating art is no easy feat, we just ask that there is enough of the process completed so that authors can have a clear idea of what they’re claiming.
Accepted mediums include, but are not limited to:
Traditional/Digital art
Manipulations
Audio
Playlists/Fanmixes (with a cover and a minimum of 15 songs),
Mood Boards
Textile Crafts (knitting, crocheting, quilting, needlepoint, felting, etc., as long as the work can be photographed in one image)
Recipes
Covers/Banners
Photosets
If you have an idea for a piece that is not on this list, please send us an ask on tumblr or email us at [email protected]

All accepted prompts will be available to view on the airtable gallery (the link will be available when prompting opens). Anyone can submit a prompt; you will not be required to submit a claim in order to submit a prompt and vice versa.
You may submit prompts anonymously. By submitting a prompt under your AO3 name, you agree to receive either fic or art.

After prompting is over, there will be another airtable link to submit your claims. We will cap participants at 40 for both fic and art.
Prompts are claimed on a first-come, first-served basis. You will receive an email confirming your prompt and your signup. If you finish writing your fic and wish to claim a second prompt, you are welcome to do so even after claiming closes. Before submitting a second claim form, please submit your first finished piece to the AO3 collection and wait for approval to claim another prompt.
Each prompt will be allowed 1 claim in each medium - Fic and Artwork.
We also encourage you to participate in the fest community by leaving kudos and a kind comment on other participants' works.

You can self-prompt on the claiming form after the prompting period ends. The mods will email you to either approve your prompt or let you know that it does not meet the criteria for the fest.
Drop Outs and Extensions
If you need to drop out at any time or request an extension, please contact the mods. Extensions will be at the mods’ discretion and dependent on the size of the fest.

Now Prompting!
Welcome to the Harry Potter Queer Villains Fanworks Festival!
A chance to explore your darkside, lesser acknowledged characters, and many rarepairs in a queer positive setting!
This fanworks festival centres around the villains of Harry Potter with queer headcanons and prompts.
Have you ever wanted to explore the story of Herpo the Foul under a transmasc lens? No, well that's not all! What about tackling a fun, lesbian fic about Morgan(a) Le Fay? Still no. That's alright, let's find something else. I know! Have you considered the lore of Salazar Slytherin and Godric Gryffindor from the perspective of forbidden lovers? Not at all... Well I bet you could be now! But, I get it, you want something a bit more exciting. In that case, there's always exploring Grindelwald's life, love, and rise to power!
That should have your attention now. You can write or draw prompts like these and MORE in the Harry Potter Queer Villains Fanworks Festival!
Schedule
April 25th, 2023 - May 13th 2023: Prompting
May 6th, 2023 - May 27th, 2023: Claiming
June 3rd, 2023 - July 3rd, 2023: Posting
July 3rd, 2023 - July 10th, 2023: Overtime (reserved for anyone needing extensions)
July 11th, 2023: Author Reveals
Guidelines
▪ This is a 16+ festival, where only 18+ participants are allowed to post sexually explicit material. Anyone who lies about their age are subject to being banned from future festivals.
▪ Promotion of homophobia, transphobia, ableism, racism, sexism, anti-semitism, fatphobia, other anti-LGBTQIA+ rheteric, etc is NOT allowed. Keep in mind and be careful of condeming any characters because of gender, race, sex, orientation, culture, disability, weight, etc.
▪ Anyone can prompt or claim for this fest; you do not have to do one to do the other.
▪ Self Prompting will be allowed when the claiming time comes.
▪ This is an anonymous festival. Therefore, talk of claimed prompts isn't encouraged in public.
▪ All fanworks should focus on a "villainous" character from the Harry Potter series.
Characters should be one of the following to constitute as a villain:
- An antagonist of the protagonists in the main series or in a spin-off. This includes but isn't limited to Voldemort, his Death Eaters, Grindelwald, his Acolytes, etc.
- Be part of Wizarding history and have a legacy for being evil in someway. This includes but isn't limited to Herpo the Foul, Morgan(a) Le Fay, Salazar Slytherin, the Bloody Baron, etc.
Yes, this does mean that certain morally dubious characters such as Draco Malfoy, Severus Snape, and Regulus Black count as villains for the sake of this festival. For the sake of simplicity, however, Albus Dumbledore does not count as a villain, regardless of his many messy and shitty actions within the main series and spin-off, Fantastic Beasts. However, characters who don't count as a villain under these parameters can still be prevalent in your fanwork. In fact, they can even be the second half of the main ship, but the main character who does count as a villain should be the focus of any story or art.
• Author Expectations - Fanfictions should have a minimum of 2,000 words. Authors must have an archive of our own account to add their fic to the collection. Additionally, fics should be new and unique to the fest. No add ons to previously posted works in progress are allowed. Sequels and prequels may be allowed so long as they can be read without needing to have read the previous part(s) of the story. Fanfictions should be tagged and warned for accordingly. "Author chose not to use Archive Warnings" is not an acceptable warning. Fics should not be posted elsewhere (ie on Tumblr, Twitter, etc) until after reveals. Fanfictions should be edited for SPaG to the best of the author's abilities. If you're in need of a beta, you may join our discord and ask for help!
• Artwork at any stage that the artist is happy sharing it in is acceptable. Artists must either have an archive of our own account to add their art to the collection or reach out to the fest host so they can possibly send their art to the author of their prompt, in order to post the art along with the fic. Additionally, all art should be new and unique to the fest. Art should also not be posted elsewhere (ie on Tumblr, Twitter, etc) until after reveals.

HP Fruit Fest 2023
Tumblr media
Welcome to the first (of hopefully many!) HP Fruit Fest! While the HP fandom has had a bountiful harvest of fics for many years, there is not nearly enough to sate us peckish fruit fanatics!
🍊 The Ap-peel:
Stress free fest! Few restrictions apply.
Are you interested in the symbolism of fruit? The aesthetic? The yumminess? This fest promises inspiration aplenty!
Do you like your fruit sweet or sour? Or even spicy? Go wild! The only real limit is your imagination, friends!
Ship & Kink positive! No ship or kinkshaming here, baby!
Non-anonymous posting.
No hard deadline. Just post to the collection anytime this spring, March 20 - June 21.
🍑 Fest Rules:
Participants must be 18 years or older. While the fest is not aimed towards explicit content, with the lack of content restrictions, I feel most comfortable having an age restriction.
No word count minimum or maximum. Do you wanna write a durian drabble? Or a lingonberry longfic? Don't let me stop you!
Must feature appearance of whole fruit. If you want to turn it into jam or juice or pie, feel free! But at least give us a glimpse of raw beauty, please and thank you!
No content restrictions (on fic.) All fics must be thoroughly tagged. But if you wanna write some feel good fluff or a dead dove monstrosity, that's entirely up to you! I only ask that you tag all content to the best of your ability. If you have any questions or concerns about this, you can email me at [email protected].
Art restrictions apply (for legal reasons.) No explicit depictions of underage characters.
All fan creations allowed. Fic? Art? Podfic? Bookbinding? Other arts and crafts? Follow wherever your muse leads! The fest will run on AO3 and Tumblr to allow for all the goodies.
May combine with other events. If other fests/events are cool with it, I'm cool with it!
Self-prompting allowed. There will be a selection of fruit specific prompts (per the mod), and prompting will open to the public for more specific fruity scenarios, but as long as it as fruit in it, that's all that matters! If no existing prompt tickles your fancy, go for whatever does!
All works must be betaed. Or SPaG checked at the very least. We want this experience to be enjoyable for everyone, so please make sure those fruits ✨ shine ✨!
If you need a beta, please let us know and we'll help find one for you!
You must sign up to participate. A sign up form will be posted March 1. Please sign up if you want to prompt or create. Even if you're not sure you will prompt or create, if you even think about it, please sign up. This is just to ensure I can contact you if needed, for either the prompt or the creation.

Top 5 fic pet peeves?? Idk or maybe pet peeves in general
🧂🧂🧂🧂🧂🧂🧂
LET'S GO. I HAVE GRIPES.
1) not every kick is a roundhouse kick and not every punch is a right hook. fucking stop. I WILL die on this hill and by god am I taking you all w me. I'm not a trained martial artist by any means but I have done self-defense and kickboxing and I HATE THIS.
first of all, if you're dead set on a hook, you want a LEFT HOOK bc most ppl are right handed, means your stance is left foot forward, means your left arm is forward and has more reach to get in/behind someone's guard. if you're looking for more power, just do an overhand. scariest punch I've ever heard make contact is an overhand (w a mitt, to be clear. but it like, reverberated.)
second, WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG W OTHER KICKS. axe kick! front kick! gimme a knee ffs! I love a good roundhouse like anyone else but also wtf I need some variety. (my favorite kick to do is a jump front kick. not terribly practical but SO fun)
2) 'hesitance' isn't a thing. HESITATION. PLS. (so much spag stuff where I have to remind myself that we're hobbyists and providing art for free. I don't need or expect perfection but we're talking abt peeves.)
3) look shit up. like just. do some research. GLANCE at a wikipedia article, I beg. this applies to anything, from foods in a particular region to naming schemas to how injuries work to cultural norms. esp the last one. kicking a hornet's nest by saying right out that the lack of cultural awareness and the lack of care for having cultural awareness is why I didn't stay/burned out on mdzs fandom.
4) the character flattening, reducing all nuance and interesting traits into a cardboard cutout of their canon. makes me wonder if ppl can fucking read bc it def makes me feel like we did not engage w the same material. also it's BORING.
5) telling me a character has x quality while there is nothing in the fic that supports this. oh, they're 'x' huh? are they REALLY?????

Fandom Lexicon: C
The third installment in our posts about our Fandom Lexicon introduces the most terms yet: those beginning with the letter C!
Make sure you check out the main Fandom Lexicon page! We’ve posted letters A, B, and now C, and will be adding one or more letters each week until the entire lexicon is live and available for your perusal.
Spot a mistake we’ve made? Have we left something out? Let us know!
Lexicon Terms Beginning with C (read more)
C Drama: Abbreviation for “Chinese drama.” TV dramas from China
C Pop: Abbreviation for “Chinese pop.” Pop music from China.
C-Ent: Abbreviation for “Chinese entertainment.” Overarching term for the Chinese entertainment industry.
C&C: Abbreviation for “comments and criticism.” Typically used by a creator when indicating whether they do or do not want comments and/or criticism on their work. For example, an author’s note might read, “C&C Welcome.”
Camp NaNo: Shortened term referring to “Camp National Novel Writing Month.” A week-long writing event that occurs twice every year, in April and July. It is hosted by NaNoWriMo, but unlike the original NaNo, participants in Camp NaNo choose their own goals. See also NaNoWriMo (pending).
Canon: Facts about a narrative provided within the published context of the media being referred to. What does and does not count as canon is often up for speculation and scrutiny by fans with different interests/perspectives. Generally considered separate from “Word of God” explanations of the text – canon events must have happened “on the page” or “on the screen” or “in the recording” for the media in question, depending of course on the original format for the media. Read more about what canon means.
Canon Compliant: A fanwork that follow the rules/characterizations/plot of its source material, as interpreted by the creator of that work. Truly canon compliant works follow canon so closely that they could exist in canon without violating any known information about the world and characters, though that can be a moving target for canon compliant works created when canon is still ongoing. Read more about canon compliance.
Canon Divergent: A fanwork that begins at an established point in the source material’s canon, then takes off in its own direction. Read more about canon divergence.
Canon Insert: Most typically refers to when a writer’s original character is added to canon or replaces an existing canon character. Less typically, refers to a character from franchise A who is added to a canon or replaces an existing canon character in a fanwork about franchise B. Read more about character inserts.
Carrd: A service that hosts simple, easy-to-make websites for free, or more advanced ones for a fee, used by fans and other people to provide a central place for their contact details, interests, and personal information they want to share. Learn more on the Carrd website.
Casefic: A genre of fanwork in which the main characters are solving a case. Most common in fandoms where there are episodes or books that are each case-based, such as The X-Files, CSI, or Supernatural. Read more about casefic.
CBT: Abbreviation for “cock and ball torture” and for “cognitive behavioral therapy.” A classic example of just how important context can be for understanding what an abbreviation means!
CC: Abbreviation for the Creative Commons. A license that a user can assign to their own creation, giving permission to use the creation in their own projects provided they follow the terms of the chosen Creative Commons license. Read more about the types of Creative Commons licenses on the Creative Commons webpage.
Cheerleader: A person who reads a fanfic before it’s published and cheers the author on, so they keep up their motivation. The difference to alpha or beta reader is that the cheerleader usually does not offer any concrit nor do they do spelling and grammar (SPAG) editing.
Chibi: A type of art in which the characters are shown with unrealistic proportions, most often with unusually large heads and eyes. Also sometimes called “SD,” which stands for super-deformed. Read more about the term “chibi.”
Cishet: Shortened term for “cisgender heterosexual.” An individual whose assigned gender at birth matches their gender identity and who experiences sexual attraction to the opposite gender and only the opposite gender (excluding non-binary people and other genders outside the binary). While intended to be used to refer to people who are not queer, the term has often become a short-hand insult for aromantic and asexual people, and for bisexual people who are in relationships with person who are of the opposite in-the-binary gender. Read more about the term “cishet.”
Cisswap: See Genderbend (pending).
