Alastor's Microphone Staff Has Influential Powers
And it affects him, too.
When Charlie has to inspire the Cannibal Town population, she first uses a typical omni stage mic.
Tumblr media
She and Rosie leave the gazebo to cool down, and Alastor remains on the stage alone. When the pair come back, the regular mic is inconspicuously missing, giving Alastor an excuse to lend his.
Tumblr media
It's clearly symbolic for lending Charlie use of his own voice, and also a sign that he trusts her to wield such an important "extension" of himself and his powers.
Charlie uses his mic to sing and inspire the crowd, like her mother used singing to unite all of hell.
Slowly, the crowd comes around to Charlie's cause. Only after they join the sing-along proper does Alastor take his mic back. Rosie hands Charlie a baton with a skull on it - perhaps it was something like Rosie's 'Overlord staff'. Her equivalent of handing over Alastor's microphone, allowing Charlie to step into her shoes for the moment.
Alastor's magic microphone isn't ever connected to any speakers, or soundboard, or recording gear, transistor, phonograph, etc. He can use it to broadcast a Hell-wide radio show. He can project his own voice through it like a hand puppet.
Radio hosts are infamously influential people. Even today, they're known for turning entire populations into radical conservatives, or they're cult leaders, or conspiracy mongers. They hold a captive audience through their charisma without them ever seeing their face.
When Charlie sings through Alastor's microphone, she's projecting the same influential geas Alastor uses in his radio-based magic.
Thing is, when Charlie spoke into the mic, she was speaking to Alastor, as well. As subtle as the mic's powers may be, Alastor did find himself truly affected by Charlie's vision in a way he didn't intend. He just didn't realize it until the very last episode of Season 1.
By the way, you know how in ep. 8, red eyes are everywhere, watching Alastor's breakdown?
Tumblr media
One of those eyes sit right in front of his microphone. Because of its design, you need to face the mic a certain way to use it properly. The eye is always watching its user.
Tumblr media
If Alastor never gets his mic fixed, it's probably for the best. One less eye to watch him. One less way for the Radio Demon to turn the population of Hell into his prisoners. One more way Charlie has an upper hand on him, if she inherited her mother's talents, because she doesn't need a mic to influence people.

[BEHIND THE RECORD - Elvis onstage from 1969 to 1977] "I Can't Stop Loving You"
Tumblr media
Written and composed by country singer Don Gibson, who first recorded it in 1957, RCA Victor released "I Can't Stop Loving You" in 1958, and it became a country hit single. The song was covered by many artists over the years, most notable one being Ray Charles, in 1962, due to how he turned the tune into a No. 1 single on the Billboard chart.
Elvis Presley performed the song in many iconic concerts of his career - from 1969 into the 70s.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first time Elvis Presley was recorded singing "I CAN'T STOP LOVING YOU" was during one of the American Sound Studio sessions, on February 1969. It wasn't an official recording tho. A jam version of the tune was recorded while EP was warming up with his musicians so they could cut the songs that would be released in his LPs for the times following — "From Elvis In Memphis" being the album this recording session was intending to create at first.
Not long after this recording session, "I Can't Stop Loving You" was worked up as a number to Elvis' concerts. Rearranged, the song gained a more dramatic tone than we can listen to from how it originally sounded in Elvis' voice at the recording taped at the American Sound Studio previously, so from this moment on Elvis would perform the tune in quite a few iconic concerts of the latter era of his career, the very start being during his comeback to live performances on July/August 1969, onstage at the International Hotel's showroom in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Soundboard audios with "I Can't Stop Loving You" recorded during his concerts, including in 1969, were released on some his live albums throughout the years, such as "FROM MEMPHIS TO VEGAS (IN PERSON)" [recorded in 1969], "ELVIS AS RECORDED AT MADISON SQUARE GARDEN" (recorded in 1972) and "ELVIS: RECORDED LIVE ON STAGE IN MEMPHIS" (recorded in 1974).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Live performances of Elvis singing the song were also officially taped, and they are very known to the fans for obvious reasons because they are part of some of the most notable moments of Elvis' history as a performer.
First official taping of EP performing "I Can't Stop Loving You" live took place during one of his engagement seasons at the International Hotel on August, 1970, as released on "Elvis: That's The Way It Is" documentary, then again on April 1972, filmed for "Elvis On Tour" documentary, and not long after that another performance of this tune was filmed during the "Aloha From Hawaii via Satellite" concert, on January 1973.
BUT, BEFORE WE CAN GO TO THOSE FOOTAGES, HAVE YOU LISTENED TO THE JAM VERSION RECORDED IN STUDIO IN 1969?
— NOTE FROM AUTHOR I love sharing Elvis' performances of the same song over the years, but what I would really love you to listen to now is the 1969 jam version of the song we're talking about, for it sounds so different from the live performances the fans are already very familiar with. I didn't knew about this recording until a few days ago and I loved it so much that this track is the reason why I needed to talk about this song. You will read about the moment EP was recording this song soon after.

Album: American Sound 1969 (2019)
It was an American Studio tradition: paying tribute to the chief with a rendition of “This Time,” a Chips Moman-penned hit for Troy Shondell in 1961. Elvis had heard about the rite, and he serenaded his producer at the start of the February session with the few lines that he knew, segueing into Don Gibsons “It’s My Way,” a song he had asked Freddy to check out the year before. Plunking along on his acoustic guitar, laughing at his own mistakes but singing his heart out, he drew the band into another Don Gibson number, “I Can’t Stop Loving You,” which he would transform into a dramatic show-stopper six month later in Las Vegas. Excerpt from "Elvis Presley: A Life In Music" by Ernst Jorgensen and Peter Guralnick.

BPP, did you see the doc? Ep. 6 and 7 Jimin was eating after the concert, talking about his state of mind. Even before JK came, his voice was shaky, uncertain. Once he started talking about being depressed his voice really became thin, and his composure had that specific Jimin quality of being both resplendent as well as 'one more crack and the veneer will shatter'. The whole scene showed me another type of Jimin. An anxious young man who is trying so hard to keep it together. The layers and depth of his emotions are so precious to me, but at the same time, I want to look away. It is too vulnerable. Do you think Jimin’s biggest 'enemy' is himself? And do you agree that JK's pragmatism is what keeps him centered?
***
Goodness this is a topic I wish I could get into in more detail, rather than under the pretext of quick asks. But the short answer is yes to both questions. With the second, I think Hoseok and Yoongi are mitigating agents along with Jungkook (who really does more cheerleading than acting as a practical soundboard).
When I tell you I'm so glad they all have each other, I really do mean it.

just finished binging the entirety of high school musical: the musical: the series in six days and now i'm going to ramble about it for longer than anyone would care to read. it's gonna be generally positive but definitely nini and olivia unfriendly so if you dont wanna read that... dont ♥️♥️
so i suggested to my sister a while ago that i wanted to watch the show bc the videos that youtube commentary channel "pretty much it" did for it were hysterical. and she had watched the first couple of eps by herself and was like "i dont think you'll like it. its not as funny as they make it seem". but we finally decided to start it anyway
(also i dont know the entire casts' real names so i'll mostly refer to them as their character names)
season 1:
that first season was kind of rough. especially the pilot. it got better over time but its definitely my least favorite season over all. im not even a fan of high school musical so it lacked the nostalgia enjoyment for me
and i definitely did not like nini and her main character syndrome. and sorry to say but i think olivia is the least talented cast member over all. pretty privilege is so real like she didnt deserve to be the break out star she was just the most marketable. kourtney and ashlyn's voices were so strong and stellar, and they might not've been Dancers but they could definitely move. and gina was the best dancer in the fucking world and while i do think her voice wasnt as good, she could obviously still sing. nini's best talent moments were when olivia was shining thru imo (that one taking it for gra-a-a-anted song comes to mind first) but i was not here for the acoustic numbers and honestly i dont think she was a great actress
so i definitely wasnt a fan of the whole nini ricky gina ej love square. i know its a tried and true teen show staple but goddamn it got tiring. i just never liked rini and i didnt like how nini treated him right from the start asklfjlds. she was also rude as hell to everyone else, especially gina, being all passive aggressive towards her. literally saying she wanted to kick gina in the face bc gina is a good dancer and she's intimidated?? but also all the talk in general about gina being intimidating or aggressive or a bad seed like ??? the microaggressions were off the charts
not to mention the fucking macroaggression of kourtney's entire s1 "character". i think hattie mcdaniel had a more nuanced role in gone with the wind. it was so fucking painful to watch. she didnt exist to be anything other than nini's personal soundboard, cheerleader, stylist, life coach, and whatever else she needed in the moment. thank god they gave her a real character by s2 bc kourtney was way too talented, too gorgeous, too charismatic to be forced into the role of nini's handmaid the whole time
i dont really have much to say about s1 cause i wasnt into it at the time lol. it was okay. all the actors did a good job, it was kind of funny, the only song that really stood out was miss jenn's fantasy sequence song with lucas. the actually high school musical show they put on was painful to watch but thats high school theater for you babyyy
season 2:
this was such an improvement from s1 and my favorite season over all. there were a handful of eps in the middle where i was constantly like "this is my fave ep" "ok this is my fave ep" "ok now THIS is my fave ep" it was a delight. i love beauty and the beast and was so happy for ashlyn getting belle, and everyone else was very well cast. although idk why seb was chip and not cogsworth?? my sister said it was bc disney didnt want to confirm that they were gay 💔💔
the music was obviously better bc we've got fucking alan menken on the track. all the numbers from the show were perfect. i wish ej had gotten to sing the gaston reprise bc he didnt get to reach his full gaston potential and i think we deserved that 💔
the debacle with the whole rose song was sooo annoying. nini deserved to be that fork. she dragged the whole show down like it was always so much better when she wasnt there aklfjlksd
the rivalry with the other school was lots of fun. i liked all the new characters. my favorite original song was miss jenn's number with derek hough
season 3:
this season was likeee a pleasant mid for me??? idk it was fine and fun but it didnt have anything in it that blew me away. i think this season was screaming for extra episodes more than any other, since we were missing a chunk of the cast. we deserved to cut back to salt lake every now and again and see what the non-camp-goers were up to
kourtney and gina as elsa and anna was a dream. not the biggest fan of frozen but they did a good job. everyone looked so cute in their costumes and kourtney's solo was amazinggg. the new characters were fun but i dont have strong feelings towards them lol. but i loved getting to explore kourtney's character and her struggles with anxiety, that was very real
them filming a documentary was funny bc have they not been filming one this whole time? my headcanon was that the to-the-camera interviews were all in their heads and everyone was practicing for when they became famous lol but then ricky ruined that in s4 by acknowledging them directly rip 💔
i liked after their show ended and they all got sharpies and wrote their names on the walls back stage. that was definitely a potent theater kid memory and got me a lil teary eyed
i liked ej taking on the role of director and copying miss jenn's hand holding and high pitched singing at the first read thru. i liked ej and gina together i thought they were cute. it was disappointing that the show wouldnt commit to them for even a minute and they always had to be teetering on the edge between being a couple and not. that was frustrating
and girl just get nini out of there already. olivia wanted nini to be there as much as i did. she was sooo over it by s3
umm favorite original song was corbin bluh's basketball song
season 4:
very very fun season again. loved the chaos of filming the movie at the school while school is happening. as if every movie set in a real school doesnt shoot in the summer. oh well. gotta have a season!
there was too much mack for me personally. i dont think he gave wanted they wanted to be given. i needed more dani tho. her actress was so good at bad acting. she couldve been a much bigger comedic presence also she looked like a cross between sofia carson and emma roberts but sometimes just looked like a latina emma roberts ??? is that just me??
and still the lack of seb and big red at the beginning like ?? did they specifically piss off the writers so they had to banish them for nearly half the show?
loved that the little girl from camp was there. she stole the show. and maddox and jet are fine alskfjsldk i just didnt form strong opinions on them but i do like them
ashlyn's "i need to give her mouth to mouth! AS A FRIEND!" was the funniest line of the entire show hands down
so happy they finally had a halloween episode! it was lots of fun and everyone looked so cute in their costumes uwu. but that guy from camp that was stalking carlos??? that was so bizarre and it never paid off likeee what was the reason
and gina's mom was pissing us off so bad. she was acting wild this season. like gina has to focus on her studies so no boys but she can work from sun up to sun down on a movie lmao. and her mom had the nerve to be like "well i never came to your shows bc that was just high school theater but THIS is a movie" like wooow. and i swear it felt like she was about to sell gina off to mack bc he was famous. and when she started with that "porters dont wait around" mess and ricky cleared her with a quickness with that whole "well i seem to remember gina waiting around for you on opening night" like damn
and omg when mack was over for dinner and ricky came over with chocolates but saw him thru the window. i was like ugh fuck its gonna be the stupid thing where he sees this and gets the wrong idea and its gonna be a stupid wedge between him and gina that doesnt need to be there bc no one can communicate BUT THEN gina sees him outside and runs to him and i think i screamed bc i was so relieved aslkjskl but their kiss was very cinematic and cute ♥️♥️
and omg on sunday night im sitting there trudging thru s1 like "yeah starting this might've been a mistake" and by friday im bawling my eyes out bc the story is ending 💔💔 sofia deserved the whole fucking egot and a golden globe too for that scene at the end. and i was SO invested in her acting career and like pleading with the show for her not to pass on it and stay at school but fucking genius that she is found a way to do both!!!
and i honestly didnt know what i wanted miss jenn to do like i was rooting for her both ways but of course she staaayed. and the show ended and it had the "skip credits" button and my sister was like "oh there's something after the credits?" and then i saw "for good" listed at the end of the songs and i screamed again. and was bawling again when everyone was singing that. who knew this silly little show would have such a death grip on me by the end???
so over all it was really very good and not a waste of time. i liked pretty much every character and it was just a lot of fun! would definitely watch it again
my over all season ranking would be two, four, three, and one is dead ass last
my favorite characters from the start were gina, miss jenn, carlos, ashlyn, and big red lowkey alskfjdskl. kourtney got up there in s2 and beyond. and i do really like ricky, ej, seb, they're my secondary faves. (kinda wish ricky had more to do bc aside from his parents, i feel like every single one of his issues had to do with a love triangle and i just wish the character was granted a little more texture) and the camp kids were good, they were fine, they're like third-iary faves. and the only ones i dislike are gina's mom and nini lol
and i wasnt like screaming over any ships but generally i liked them all except rini. ej and gina was cute, i liked ashlyn and maddox, i liked ashlyn and big red, carlos and seb probably were my faves if i had to pick, i liked kourtney with howie (wish we saw him again) and jet, and yes by the end i was rooting for rina they just won me over this season and were super cute and im glad they ended where they did ♥️

Kinnporsche God!Kinn Mortal!Porsche ideas dump post
Also known as Foreigner's God Au.
So I would like fto start off with thanking @kin-kinn @bestiesincrime and @yilingbee for being my soundboard at the beginning stages of forming this idea (and that's why they lovingly get the access to the doc with all the ideas)
Secondly it's greek/roman gods inspired but I do not have an excessive knowledge of mythology to simply follow it, no, I have it to mish mash it for my favorite gay blorbos so some myths and gods will just work different™
Who is who and why do I think it fits.
Korn - Zeus, which i don't think i have to explain i guess?? King of gods, big asshole, we all hate him
Tankun - Demeter, because I would love for my boy to decorate the whole world and also he is dramatic enough to say no flowers for y'all if i don't get to keep Pete, losers
Gun as Poseidon bc of his yacht outfit in the last ep at the showdown, like my dude just vibing with the beach
Pete - Persephone (for obvious reasons)
Vegas - Hades, like c'mon again for obvious reasons, also Khun Spikes as Cerber i said what i said
Arm and Pol are nymphs in service of Khun
YOK AS DIONYSUS again this queen just deserves that, love that for her
Kim is either Artemis because he's sharp and deadly and also removed from gods and very pretty and also asexual Kim agenda™, then also Athena because again information and knowledge and pursue of it, also there is a little merge with Kinn's role*
Kinn is more like Helios but meant to be Apollo(still got the healing stuff which is important for plot™) which like backstory the merge with Kim stuff, will get to it later*
Big might also be Hermes bc he's my little errand boy™ but he lacks the mischief so he's Ardestia (thanks to Niv), goddess of harmony and equilibrium of good and evil in battle and is associated with Artemis (Kim)
Ken (thanks to Niv again) is nemesis, goddess of rivalry on the battlefield and retribution and revenge
Macau as Ares but I give him the mischief that Hermes should have, like I would make him Hermes but he just screams Ares to me, the short temper says it all
Tay and Time are naiads
Jom and Tem are simple humans
Porsche and Chay are humans in like ¼ because I think Aphrodite should be their grandmother, so they are mortal but incredibly beautiful which checks out
*I think Kim like Artemis had a responsibility of taking care of the moon but he wanted to make music and he didn't want to have anything to do with Olymp and so Kinn took his role and takes care of the sun and the moon, while also stepping out of his role as the guardian of art, which hurt him to do because he just loves art and music and poems and he shines with it sometimes, but Kim is clearly made for music and arts and he can't take that away from him and he pretends that it's fine, that he's glad he gave it up but sometimes when he hears a particularly beautiful melody he yearns
Plot things.
The prophecy, Kinn, Tawan and "you're not a hero Porsche"
All gods when reached a certain age need to go to meet with the fates that will share one prophecy with them that will dictate their lives.
So Kinn when reached his right age, still a fairly young god come to the fares he heard; ["You're going to love a hero, (and here are few options how that sentence might end but) and he's going to die for that/that love won't stop him from dying"]
And it breaks him. But it's fine, he's young and love isn't on his mind yet. But then he meets Tawan. And like Tawan being a human hero like well known between people as a soldier.
So Kinn thinks it's about him. So the betrayal and the fact that he has to kill him hurts so much more.
After that Kinn is sure to not fall in love again.
Enter Porsche.
Who's not a hero deemed by society, he is just a common man. Just a normal human. And Kinn falls deeply.
first meeting
Chay is sick, really, really sick and there is nothing human medicine could do
Porsche is desperate and convinces Yok to take him to the god of healing (Kinn) and Yok is like "i can't take him to him but i can tell you where he always starts and ends his journey through sky but I'm not sure if he'll listen to you"
Yok doesn't know kinn personally but shares Porsche's weariness of main gods even if she is goddess herself, she is removed from olymp and its affairs enough
So there Porsche goes.
And at first Kinn says no.
But Porsche is stubborn and desperate
So he waits up another day.
And then another.
And sometimes they stroke up a conversation
Sometimes they just watch each other
(Just imagine Kinn watching Porsche being beautiful, laying under the sun, waiting for him, Kinn being stunned by all of that Porsche is and mesmerized by him but convincing himself that it's nothing because Porsche is human)
It's been two weeks and Porsche is going restless, he doesn't know how much time Chay has left
Kinn hears him talking to Yok when she comes to deliver news about chay's wellbeing and he thinks about™ he heard the pain and hurt in Porsche's voice when he talked with the goddess, he heard the "if he doesn't survive this Yok, I have nothing more to live for" and so he decides to heal Chay
But since he waited so much to say yes, Chay's illness is way more advanced to heal just in one go
So he needs to do this in repeated visits
And the short story is that Kinn swore to never fall in love with another human after Tawan, his last human lover, because they die. And Kinn can do nothing about it. But also because they are greedy and starved for the thought of immortality. Or at least that's what he knows of because of Tawan.
Tawan was Kinn's human lover that he had to kill because of plot reasons™ that I will not be revealing yet.
I would also like for Vegas to taunt Kinn sometimes about the fact that he has Tawan in the underworld.
But enter Porsche who is just making it impossible to not fall in love with him. But Porsche hates the main gods bc of his mother.
Anyway they fall in love slowly, I am saying slow-burn!! And then they are in love and it's so bittersweet because Kinn knows that Porsche will die but loving him is so sweet, so good, so fulfilling. The problem also arises with the fact that Porsche doesn't want infinity, not if he has to take ambrosia.
Plot related things.
Chay, Tem, Jom and Porsche are followers of Yok bc Yok just like Dionysus deserves to have her own cult but more in a found family way then the actual cult.
Porsche meeting Pete at spring when he's  with Tankhun and befriending the god only to see everyone to let him go in the fall and being like "i was right that gods don't care about anything, how can they just let him go to the underworld and NOT fight for him to stay" and it sits heavy with him throughout the whole of fall and winter and modulates his relationship with Kinn.
A nice image is also Kinn telling Porsche about Sappho and then speaking the "mother i cannot weave" poem into his skin, as if pressing the words to stay there in graved
Porsche lazy and satisfied under the sun while wearing an olive branch wrath and one of those white togas?? delicious™
"Here coated with sweat Kinn felt alive. Pressed into Porsche's body, his own felt almost human in its wanting. He didn't know which craved Porsche more, his body or his soul but what he was sure of was the fact that it felt like something human. This feelings. No godly sins could taint it and Kinn was as scared by it as amazed." (I will change the wording of this but I like the vibe™)
And then on an unrelated note but do not read if you don't want spoilers for the end of circe by Madeline Miller.
"Kinn heard of Circe becoming human. Everyone on Olympus did. It made him think. Let an intrusive thought into his head, he started thinking what if he could become one. For Porsche he could, for the chance to grow old with him, spend his life with him as Porsche deserves. He ached with that thought, he knew he had responsibilities as a god, knew that what Circe did was never available to him and yet he couldn't stop thinking, what a beautiful thing it would be to be human with Porsche."
And lastly some myths I thought about when thinking of this Au.
Persephone and Hades ofc for our VegasPete, there is just no other options and no getting out of it
Okay so listen at first I was like Hyacinth and Apollo myth for KimChay??? But I couldn't do it to Porsche, like Chay ain't no way is going to be turned into a fucking flower.
But Namphung? Like imagine if Porsche's hatred for main gods is because he's mother got killed because she was loved by one and then she is turned into a flower as she dies and Porsche tends to a whole garden filled with that flowers (after he and Khun bond, Khun blesses and enhances the garden even more which warms Porsche's heart)
So for Kimchay actually Orpheus and Eurydice but successful and different
Like just get this. Chay is obvs Orpheus but in a broad sense but instead falling for Eurydice he falls for Kim and Kim the god of music falls for the prettiest and most skilled singer and player. And then Chay somehow dies and Kim has to go to the underworld to save him.
So yeah that's all that's I'm willing to reveal. This will be probably like two-four chapters with a KimChay interlude along the way. I hope you all will go crazy over this as much as I have been going lately and that heavens will sent me time and motivation to actually write this.

I was just wondering what made you write your stories in this era and with this Elvis….I have just devoured so many books in the last 6 months and I am fascinated why he did the things he did, why with all his resources he did not help himself….it’s the psychological aspects of his personality his women and his choices I’m finding so heartbreaking and I think that’s why I find your story so captivating …..apart from the beautiful writing of course. Your words feel like they are filling in some of the blanks…….I just wondered if this was some of your motivation…..apart from the gorgeous man he is.. hugs 🤗
Hi, you lovely lady!
Okay, I've been thinking about this all day, so settle in!
The simplest answer is that I wanted to read it! When you can't find the art you want you just have to make it. I love all the stories, the AUs, the reimaginings, the fix-it fics and the smut (Boy, do I!) but I wanted some Elvis on tour!
Tumblr media
The next reason is that I hate the official story put out by EPE and RCA (my arch-nemeses) that Elvis stopped existing after Aloha, or that he spent his time crying about his divorce until he passed away. Dude was still out there doing his thing, living his life, making plans in spite of his problems and to simplify and dismiss him enrages me!
Tumblr media
Another reason- I'm so sorry but you made the mistake of asking- is that I have been an Elvis fan a LONG time. Like a weird little nerdy one. I've devoured all the books, I've been to the cons, I met people who knew him and interrogated them relentlessly, I've been on message boards, I watched thousands of blurry 8mm filmed concerts and listened to 100s of hours of soundboard recordings.
Picture a big-eyed, intense teen right up in Ronnie Tutt's face going, 'But really, how could you keep an eye on him all the time to see his cues and still drum like that? Did you ever miss your cue? Did you piss him off?' Then picture that poor man being like, 'Um, here's your autograph, now go away you're scaring me, you strange girl.' I think I wanted to do something with all the ill-gotten information I have, because otherwise it's just in my head driving me crazy.
Finally- yes it's coming to an end now- I love him and he fascinates me. Like you, I question and wonder, trying to make sense of the things he did and the choices he made. I relate to him more than I am comfortable admitting sometimes. I understand his self-destructive ways, his bravado, his insecurity and his super-sized emotions. I flat out admire him for all that he achieved and the positive qualities he managed to keep hold of in a world that was often not very kind to him.
Tumblr media
Thank you so much for the question, and for reading my fic. I love that it seems to be seeking out such lovely people and bringing them into my life!

255: Amorphis // Elegy
Tumblr media
Elegy Amorphis 1996, Spinefarm
A woman I was sleeping with once asked me while we were lying in bed in the darkness if there was any poetry I could recite from memory. Reader, I had nothing, so I ended up sleepily intoning these words:
Truly they lie, they talk utter nonsense. Those who sing music Reckon that the kantele Was fashioned by a god Out of a great pike’s shoulders, From a water dog’s hooked bones… It was molded from sorrow. Its belly out of hard days, Its soundboard from endless woes, Its strings gathered from torments And its pegs from other ills. Truly they lie, they talk utter nonsense.
Then she wept. I’d mentioned the words came from the Kanteletar, a Finnish collection of traditional folk poems collected in 1840, but I wonder if the reaction might’ve been different if I’d gone on to say that I’d learnt them from “My Kantele,” a song from idiosyncratic death metal band Amorphis’s third album Elegy. (Possibly not; she was the sensitive type.)
youtube
Amorphis is probably my favourite metal band of the ‘90s, moving over the course of four albums and a coupla EPs from a hoarse death-doom croak to an uncategorizable psychedelic smear of folk, prog, melodic death, and goth rock. Their adolescent fascination with fantasy warfare led them to the deeper well of folklore in all its silliness and strange wisdom; they infused their wintry stomp with the druggy Orientalist prog rave-ups of fellow Finns Kingston Wall. It always seemed like those moments when they found themselves in the zeitgeist were not the result of chasing trends but a happy accident of their own path briefly intersecting the moment, as when Elegy’s bold embrace of keyboards and alternating clean and growled vocals anticipated the Gothenburg melodic death sound that was about to take over the extreme metal scene.
Elegy crunches (“Against Widows”) and Elegy thrashes (“On Rich and Poor”), but mostly it swirls, with new addition Kim Rantala's watery keys and lead guitarist Esa Holopainen’s increasingly Floydian selection of tones lapping over the album’s burly architecture. The selected Kanteletar poems that serve as lyrics tend toward mournfulness, and both growler Tomi Koivusaari and debuting clean vocalist Pasi Koskinen give appropriately panged readings, but as with a lot of genuine folk songs most of the musical settings have a playful zest. It’s an album rife with lengthy, dramatic outros (“The Orphan,” “Weeper on the Shore,” “Elegy”), the band finding a stirring melody and riding it to satisfaction, and if their sudden fascination with Eastern scales and the sitar is geographically inexplicable (why not a kantele on a song called “My Kantele”?) the songs that go that way generally rip.
youtube
There’s a fair amount of cheese to be found on Elegy, but even nearly 20 years since I first heard it as a teen, I find I’m able to take most of it in the spirit it was intended. Elegy’s still kind of way out there on its own as metal goes, doing its magic on a frozen stream that sparkles under the stars.

10,000 gecs Review
Hi hi hi! Very excited to start my blog back up hehe.
Anyways, for my first post I wanted to talk about my favorite release of the 2020's so far: 10,000 gecs
I don't believe in rating music with numbers because I feel like that's stupid and takes away the fun! If you're looking for that you might wanna find another blog <3. Here's what I think is important for the readers to know about this album, general thoughts, etc.
Well first I have to acknowledge: Laura and Dylan took their sweet time with this album. But, it payed off. Slated for release a calendar year before actually seeing the light of day, this album absolutely fucks. Anyone in any 100 gecs online forums (especially r/100gecs) recalls the absolute torture of waiting for this album before any clarification on what exactly happened to the promised release date (and now inside joke between fans) of early 2022. Rumors spread of issues with record production - ironic considering the CD's for both this album and its predecessor 1000 gecs, sold out within 12 hours of being available for sale while it's vinyl counterparts are still in stock. Not for long, though, if my friend group and I - who now have a combined total of six (6) copies of this album between five (5) of us - have anything to say about it.
In their third big release, the duo finds themselves shifting from their iconic sound of glitchy, computerized, autotuned hodgepodges of notes. They spend a lot more time with their guitars in this album. While I do miss the mania of songs like stupid horse or 800 db cloud, I still love how it sounds. 100 gecs is a band with a musical progression that's pretty satisfying to follow. Every one of their releases is easily followed from their last, and the Snake Eyes EP (their first release to break the form of the 10^n gecs nomenclature) serves as a great in-between to 1000 gecs and 10000 gecs. I have to say, I was a bit sad to see the synths take the back seat on this album, but: as badly as I wanted is is as happy I was I didn't get it. Like Robin and Steve.
The interesting thing about this album is that you swear you've heard it before. One Million Dollars comes to mind. 1000 gecs is unlike anything you've ever heard, but at least it doesn't sound so familiar. 10000 gecs is like the dude in your stats class who looks just like the guy you saw at the library yesterday, who you can't shake the uncanny similarity to, despite the fact that they're clearly not the same person.
The SFX soundboard, luckily, isn't eradicated entirely this time around. 757 and mememe defibrillate it especially.
But enough about what wasn't on it, I really ought to get to the good stuff (I'm already how many paragraphs in?)
Firstly, there's some great polkas on here. Frog On The Floor and I Got My Tooth Removed will bring out anyone's inner slav.
It's equally as difficult to make guitars sound so annoying as it is to make annoying sound so good; both things the duo succeeds at. My personal favorite track on the record is The Most Wanted Person In The United States. 100 gecs must have laced these basslines with something. Slap bass is a surprisingly important characteristic on this album, which I love. I mean, who doesn't love slap bass?
1000 gecs tended to show Laura and Dylan's more sensitive sides, dripping with details about Laura's love life. While it did take its time to delve into some out of character topics (like race horse bets, money, and ovens), ultimately a decent amount of the lyrics resonate with the tuning forks of love.
The new album focuses a bit more on the artists themselves. As an STL native, finding out the two members of one of my favorite bands of all time come from my hometown was fucking awesome, and it's interesting to hear about their journeys in growing up there as artists. Hollywood Baby provides a euphoric insight into the glorious escape of the negativity of the midwest. I love it here, don't get me wrong, but this place is less than friendly to those of us who are maybe more inclined to write and be sensitive.
All around though, a grunge rock album from 100 gecs is exactly what the world needed right now. After foreshadowing the pandemic, 1000 gecs becomes a little exhausting, even to those of us who have secretly (or if you're cool, not secretly) loved it from our first rendezvous with stupid horse. What we needed, after years of journaling and whipped coffee, surprisingly wasn't a renaissance (which is not a Beyoncé reference, although I should talk about Renaissance). What we need isn't a return to where we were. It's a moving forward. An acceptance of new spirits, which is exactly what this album is. A metal infused baring of the soul to anyone who's willing to listen.
Now I need to ask, what happened to what's that smell and fallen 4 Ü? 100 gecs made the decision to tour this album before releasing it, which ended with them touring songs that never ended up getting released. Very sad for those of us who spent hour scrolling through gecs on the internet, impatiently bumping our heads waiting for the day our favorite tunes would end up on streaming services.
I also deep down think that 757 might be an allusion to 745 sticky. Could just be me.

Into the Reverb (Kylo Ren/Reader)
Tumblr media
Chapter Five
The rest of your work week was a blur. Ochi for some reason was focused on finishing his EP, so he took up most of your time. You can say with certainty EDM was not your strong suit but he seemed pleased with it. You split your remaining time with Rae working with the Knights and Sand Scavengers. She said she didn’t mind at all. By the pep in her step, you were not surprised.
As you sat in an empty studio room, you continued to go over and finalize Ochi’s material. You will be submitting it shortly for executive review. As much as it was a review on him, it was a review of you. You took a deep breath and a big swig of your citrus infused water. You brought one of the guitars with you today, hopeful to fill some of your remaining room time with playing after you got done. You missed being able to get lost in the magic.
In another studio room, a large hand slams into the wall. Kylo was frustrated. He had not seen you much this week. He had been stuck with Rae and while the guys didn’t mind her, he did.
Her overt flirting was getting tiresome. He literally pushed her off his lap yesterday. The residual memories of how your body felt as he carried you continued to haunt him. Maybe Kuruk was right and he did need to get some. Definitely not from Rae though, even though it seems she is more than willing.
He turns to see Cardo and Trugden sitting at the soundboard. Rae and Kuruk were nowhere to be found. Typical. They were reviewing the instrumentals for the intro and chorus for their newest song.
Kylo fucking loved it. It had the heavy feel of their older material. Him and Vic could share vocals on it. Problem is they don’t have lyrics for it yet. Kylo was the primary writer for the group but constantly felt restricted when they were with the First Order. He has never felt so free as he does here.
Problem is he hasn’t made up his mind on the song and its direction and he was running out of time. “I’m gonna go grab some water, you want anything?” he asks. Neither men respond. He grumbles as he walks out the door towards the cafeteria.
Taking a glance at the schedule board, he does a double take to see your name on two rooms. One is marked with KOR. The other is Room #6, but there’s no band name listed. Hmm, interesting. His curiosity gets the better of him and heads to room #6.
Upon looking into the window, he notices it's smaller than the others. Maybe for acoustic artists? There is movement and his eyes snap to your form in the chair. You are alone with headphones on, hair pulled back in space buns and a guitar in your arms. Your head is moving rhythmically as your fingers move across the strings and frets. He knows in his soul he HAS to hear you play.
He slips his large form though the door and as silently as he can, leaning onto the doorframe. He just wants a taste of your talent. As he listens, he notices that you are classically trained. Not self taught like him.
The rhythm soaks in. He knows it but not. You seem to have added your own spin to an already existing song. As you start to sing, goosebumps erupt along his skin.
Hello
I’ve waited here for you
Everlong
Tonight, I throw myself into
And out of the red
Out of her head, she sang
Come down and waste away with me
Down with me
Slow, how you wanted it to be
I’m over my head
Out of her head, she sang…
Kylo closes his eyes and lets the sound envelop him. You are so talented, stupidly talented. You shouldn’t be hiding away in an empty room or behind a soundboard. Based on the lights you have on, you are not recording. You are literally playing simply for the pleasure of it.
His heart starts to accelerate as a ripple of arousal flows through him. He focuses on your sweet melodic voice as his mind envisions all the other beautiful sounds it could make. He shifts himself in his jeans to relieve the pressure.
He needs to remove himself before he does something stupid. But before he does, he promises the universe he will make you see what he sees. Show you how much he savors your talents. He wants to kiss those sweet lips and have those talented fingers touch him.
You sing the final lyrics as he slips out and closes the door. He takes a couple deep breaths to calm his body down. He knows he can’t stay here. What the fuck was I even doing before this? Water. That’s right, I was getting water. As he stiffly walks the rest of the way to the cafeteria, he continues to muse all the beautiful music they will make together.
Big thanks to my girls @asnackdriver @punk-in-docs @the-wayward-rose @thepilotanon @ladyzimmerman for their amazing support.

crazy theory time! Hello, I hope you don't mind me trying to formulate thoughts by clogging up your asks haha (sorry in advance, love your eclipse posts and you feel super approachable!) But I've been having Thoughts I was hoping to soundboard off someone. I've seen a lot of people mention that in the first trailer there was a glimpse of Akk going off the cliff. I'm pretty sure the show will have a happy ending so I tried not to take it too seriously. But, PT1
[...contd.] But after what they pulled with the imagined kiss, and all the times Aye has imagined (or relived?) Dika doing the same, I'm seeing that scene in the trailer WAY differently. Do you think maybe that's from something Aye had a nightmare about? More and more we've been seeing Aye push his own mission and intentions to the for Akk's sake (such as not exposing him as 'the curse') And more and more we've been seeing Akk despair with what's right and all the pressure and manipulation he's under. We already know Aye hates lying (I don't think he's ever fully lied on the show in fact! He's avoided questions with deflection but never and outright lies about himself) and I think that's because he values the truth so much, maybe something he learned from Dika? He keeps asking Akk to tell the truth in more ways than one (the curse, Akk's feelings for Aye, etc.) Which brings me to my crazy theory... We've seen that Aye is so desperate to keep from losing anyone   the same way he lost Dika, that he'd do just about anything. But I think  that will lead Aye to do something totally against his original mission  to keep from losing Akk at any cost, even if it means sacrificing  himself. But that's going to mean Aye will lose himself in the process. I  do think there's a HEA, so phew! But the pain for Aye ahead breaks my  heart! :( Though, in good news - I think Akk will be the one person that  can get through to him at a time like that. I think Akk will be able to   bring Aye back with telling Akk the truth about how he feels about him   (maybe a parallel of the "I love it when..." scene?). And if that's the case, I might burst into tears haha. Anyway! Thank you for entertaining  my rambling! Hope it wasn't too much of a bother, and have a lovely day!  :) ❤️
Hi anon!! Thank YOU for giving me a chance to talk about The Eclipse even more!
I agree, I’ve been thinking for a while that Akk going off the cliff was Ayan’s nightmare. But with the last ep establishing that the nightmare is a result of Ayan’s guilt that Dika died because they left him alone basically confirmed it for me.
We already know Aye hates lying (I don't think he's ever fully  lied on the show in fact! He's avoided questions with deflection but  never and outright lies about himself)
I don’t know if you’ve seen this wonderful meta by @liyazaki but it goes over Ayan not lying and his thought process when his mother asks if he’s going to leave her too better than I ever could put it.
I hate the thought of Ayan sacrificing himself (hasn’t the poor boy been through enough) but I could see him doing it. I’m hopeful it won’t go that way for several reasons though!
The first is this clip from the eclipse special at 5:49 where Akk and Ayan seem to have released some sort of project together. I’ve convinced myself at this point that it’s them working together to expose Suppalo. I may be totally wrong but until the show tells me that explicitly, I’m hanging on to it.
And the thing is... I don’t think Ayan protecting Akk would go against his mission. His mission, as far as we’ve been told is, “I’m going to wreck Suppalo and they’re going to make up for the shit they did.”
The shit they did includes what they’re doing to the students, and includes the intense brainwashing Akk is under. Hell, Ayan’s even told Akk to his face that he’s never met anyone as brainwashed as him.
The really really beautiful part of their relationship for me is that the only secret there is between them is that Dika is dead. There are no secrets set up to break them apart for a last minute separation - Akk being the curse could easily have been that. No, they both know since the very beginning that Ayan knows that Akk is the curse. They’ve talked about it plenty, even.
And Dika being dead, instead of a traitor that left them to work at another school? I think that is something that would bring them even closer together, maybe even help finally convince Akk that maybe, just maybe, his school’s reputation isn’t the most important thing and that sacrificing himself for it doesn’t really help anyone.
I’m really nervous about how all of this is going to play out especially considering that there’s only 4 episodes left but they’ve given me no reason to not trust them so far
(I also still fully believe that Akk thinks the curse is real and him acting as it keeps it at bay and - not to trust the previews but - I’m hoping the next episode is going to address that)
Honestly, more than Ayan I’m worried about the road ahead for Akk. His entire worldview is set to be shifted entirely and not only does he have that to consider and where his morals stand in relation to that, but also his entire future. He’s constantly under so much pressure and keeping so many secrets I really don’t understand how he hasn’t fully crumpled already.
Not that it’s going to be easy for Ayan. Assuming he does get his revenge, he’s going have to finally process the grief of losing Dika outside of anger. Once again, he needs so many hugs. Just, constantly someone hugging him. Maybe people taking turns to do so while he’s busy clinging to Akk like a koala
AND A PARALLEL TO THE I’LL TELL YOU MY FEELINGS SCENE. If there’s any sort of variation on that, let me tell you I won’t be talking about it. Because I’ll already be dead. I’ll be found paused at that scene and it would be a happy way to go tbh. Idk about you but I’m not prepared (I need it now)
Thank you for your ramblings, I loved reading them! As you can see, we love rambling thoughts in this house 🥰🥰🥰

Elvis Presley, "Let Me Be There" (LIVE, 1976)
Source (FULL ALBUM): Elvis Presley Concert CD (Youtube channel)
Audio from Bootleg album "A New Kind Of Rhythm!", released in 2007 by Madison label. This CD contains full soundboard recording from an Elvis concert recorded live at the Riverfront Coliseum on March 21, 1976 (evening concert at 8:30 pm), Cincinnati, Ohio.

PICTURES: Elvis concert Riverfront Coliseum on March 21, 1976 (evening concert, 8:30pm).
FUN FACT: Elvis performed twice that day at the Riverfront Coliseum. For the afternoon concert (2:30pm), EP was wearing the "Blue Egyptian Bird" suit, but at given moment the rear end of that suit teared up due to his movement onstage (no surprise it happened right after Elvis performed "Polk Salad Annie"). He briefly went offstage and changed into the "Rainfall" suit, in which the show moved along. There's another bootleg CD from this concert, with the title "Rippin' It In Cincinnati" (released in 2018 by Straight Arrow label), a clear reference to that one incident onstage. For the evening concert (8:30pm) Elvis wore the "Rainfall" suit again.

After changing his outfit (afternoon concert), picture above shows Elvis showing the rip to his audience. Riverfront Coliseum on March 21, 1976. There's footage of that moment too. You can watch it, here [Dailymotion]. In spite what happened, the Blue Egyptian Bird suit was fixed and Elvis wore it again in many occasions after that one incident.

FULL CONCERT [Riverfront Coliseum on March 21, 1976 — Evening concert at 8:30 pm]. If you'd like to know what EP said about the ripping suit incident (yes, he mentioned it on the evening concert), you can listen to it on this soundboard recording (begins at 29:06). EP mentioned it briefly. Take your time to appreciate the full concert, seriously. This concert is AMAZING! "Steamroller Blues" (at 15:53)? Uhh! ❤️‍🔥
