If I had a nickel for everytime Ben Schwartz voiced a blue orphan character who is the careless, playful part of his group where the others also have a specific color assigned, who finds a fatherly figure as a dad for him and his siblings, who's character arc is to understand when to be less impulsive and work together because family and teamwork comes first I would have 3 nickels

What are they watching?

I love the Sonic movies because they manage to be earnest in a way that few movies I’ve seen recently have. Every new Disney movie has to make fun of Frozen’s popularity, every Marvel movie has the characters point out their own plot holes, and every musical movie has to reiterate how weird it is the characters would sing, like, my brother in christ you made these movies. Sonic is silly by all accounts, it has a silly plot, and silly characters, but it doesn’t feel the need to make fun of the source material or genre or punch down at itself. Instead, it just invites you to spend 2 unquestioning hours reveling in the story of these funky lil space rodents fighting a guy named eggman and playing baseball. Is it ridiculous that James Marsden has an alien hedgehog living in his attic and adopts him as his son, yes, no question. But it doesn’t matter if it’s goofy, all that matters is the love between these two characters. Every joke, fight scene, plot point, and family moment is played 100% straight, no matter how wild the context and it serves it’s purpose in humanizing these otherwise ridiculous fictional superpower alien rodents. The actors, writers, and animators all approached this movie with a level of sincerity I see far too little of in other media, and the movie wouldn’t work without it. 

I like to think as Sonic and his team have the power bump, Stone and Robotnik have the high five

i don’t think any character has ever exemplified “ pure of heart , dumb of ass ” like sonic hedgehog . this is the constant across all iterations . if you’ve seen an iteration where this doesn’t fit no you haven’t . hope this helps <3
