OK THIS PART GOES HARD AS FUCK
I remember reading this for the first time and the line "I could carpet bomb him (sonic) any day" hit my like like a ton of fucking bricks.
but thats not the most noteworthy point here, it's the explanation as to why he doesn't. While generally this comic focuses on why sonic hasn't just killed eggman yet, this goes into why eggman hasn't just killed sonic yet, a question I very much feel needs an answer more then the former,
I think this is the first time we've really gotten insight as to why eggman operates the way he does with sonic, actually addressing why he hasn't just killed sonic in his sleep. This is on some level to eggman a game for him to win. He can't just kill sonic he has to do it his way or it's not a real victory.
Sure this could be inferred through some of his actions in games but it's nice to see it properly addressed

do you agree with what people say about IDW Sonic? That he's nothing like the game version, and that hes selfish and lets his enemies go without just punishment?
I've seen this take quite often, and even got some questions about this on Discord.
The short answer; No, I do not agree with that statement.
The long answer?
I don't see why people seek to compare the Comics Sonic with the Game Sonic. They're not the same universe, first of all, and second of all, Ian Flynn, who wrote for Archie after Ken Penders left and currently writes for IDW, is also the writer of Sonic Origins and Sonic Frontiers. He's been writing for Sonic longer than most people in the fandom have even been consuming Sonic media (from 2006-present)
If you hate Sonic's characterization, then you've hated him in any paper media since 2006. And some people prefer Archie over IDW (another take I do not agree with)
If there's any version of Sonic that was selfish, it was definitely Archie era Sonic. He was admittedly a poorly written character, mostly because he was written as infallible most of the times.
IDW Sonic is nothing like Archie Sonic, and probably the closest to the games as we're going to get (excluding Frontiers Sonic, of whom we don't have much information on character wise)
IDW Sonic goes through phases. Yes, he lets his enemies go, but he doesn't do so to the point of "letting them go without punishment". The punishment Sonic gives his enemies is the battle they engage in. And some of his enemies are sent to prison/hauled off to other planets/etc. None of his enemies escape "unscathed" except arguably Eggman. And this itself is explained in the comics.
After the battle that caused Eggman to lose his memories, he became Mr. Tinker. Shadow had come seeking Eggman out to kill him. Literally, he wanted to kill Eggman. Or at the very least, imprison him. The reason why Sonic stopped Shadow wasn't because he was sparing his enemy. He was literally sparing an innocent man. Mr. Tinker had lost all of his memories. He knew nothing of his time as Eggman, and was still dead set on repenting for a side of himself that he didn't even remember. He helped people, built rides for children, and even created Belle, the antithesis to Metal Sonic.
Sonic tells Shadow that if no one is worth redemption and should be killed, then why was it okay for Shadow to be running around free? Shadow understood the logic behind this and allowed Mr. Tinker to continue on. The only reason why this becomes a problem is because Starline (whom no one knew of at the time) wanted to bring back Eggman. He kidnapped Mr. Tinker and tortured him until he became Eggman again, which directly leads into the Metal Virus arc.
In the Metal Virus arc, Sonic is one of the first people to get infected. And Sonic blames HIMSELF for everything that happens in that arc. He apologizes to the victims, he apologizes to Tails and Amy. He even shows some signs of survivor's guilt/depression, because Sonic realizes that if he had killed/imprisoned Eggman or let Shadow handle Tinkerer, none of this would have happened. The world as he knew it and everyone he loved were potentially going to die because Sonic made the wrong call. How in the world can anyone say that's selfish? Or that he doesn't care about his friends or the world he protects everyday with his life?
And in the Surge arc, Sonic thinks back on his mistakes and the villains he deals with, and STILL CHOOSES TO SPARE SURGE. Surge owes Sonic NOTHING. She wants to kill and replace him. And Sonic still chooses her life and her happiness over everything. Because that's the kind of person he is. He doesn't want her blood on his hands, he doesn't want to be the kind of hero who kills his enemies. He wants to be the kind of hero who always extends a helping hand no matter who the person is.
Sonic the Hedgehog believes in love and friendship. He believes no one is truly evil, and as long as he can be there for someone, hold their hand, show them that there's always going to be a home and a friend waiting there, that he can change their life for the better and in turn, make the world they live in a better place.
Sonic is someone who suffered so much and saw so many people he cares about suffer, and still choses love as his weapon of choice. Not violence, not murder. Love.
How can you sit there and truly think someone like that is selfish?

(Sharing an au a friend and I explored a bit that I just need to be out there)
So. Surge and Kit share the same place. Now they don't have stable housing (as if they could afford that). No, they just sort of jump from place to place, living any place with some sort of roof. Right now they've been living in an abandoned cabin. The cabin is a bit run down, and the roof leaks a bit when it rains. There's no food. But the location isn't bad! It's close enough to civilization that the two could walk to the nearest city/town, but far enough away that no one'll bother them (much less care that they're squatting in abandoned property)
Now Surge has decided (for a reason we have not yet decided upon) that she wants to spend some time away from Kit (perhaps to prove for herself whether their relationship means anything more than the roles forced upon the two of them or the fact that having someone devoted to you can be a helpful tool, or if this all even matters. Or perhaps she just needs some alone time to think, to figure some stuff out). So, Surge (knowing that Kit can take care of himself) sends him out of the cabin for a while (doesn't give him an end date), tells him to go have fun or do whatever it is he wants to do for the time being.
Reluctantly, Kit obeys. He takes the front door out, closes it behind him.
As for Surge, she spends the better part of a week doing whatever. Leaves the cabin to get food, sleeps in, steals from window shops at different stores. She tries some things she's always wanted to out in the city. And in the end...she (although she won't admit it) finds it's a bit lonely without Kit there. She finds that she doesn't much mind her life as it is, nor does she really care if their relationship was forced upon them (because if Kit wants to go against it, that's for him to decide), and she finds out some things about herself (as she is now) and what she likes. So when week 2 begins, she waits inside. Sure, she still goes out to get food at first, but she just waits for Kit to come back.
Because he will, right? There's no way he can leave her alone for any longer, not with how close he sticks to her most of the time, can he?
Meanwhile, Kit hadn't gone very far. After obeying Surge, he'd circled the cabin and decided to stand at the back door. Day and night, rain or snow, he stands behind the cabin, just waiting for Surge to come back.
After about two weeks (Surge hasn't left the cabin for a couple days at least), she finally concedes, talking into the empty cabin.
"...Guess he's not coming back."
And she's...obviously not sad about it (definite lie), because this was always a possibility after they took their time alone. And if Kit decided he didn't want to wreak some havoc with her anymore, that he was no longer devoted, then she doesn't need him. She doesn't need flimsy "bonds". To be honest, in a few days she should probably gather her stuff and–
Amy walks through the front door of the cabin unannounced, doesn't even bother to knock or announce her presence.
And Surge, instead of going on the offensive, assuming Amy meant to fight, or instead of wondering how Amy found their current hideout, takes a brief minute to pretend that she is in no way even slightly depressed or living like shit (that she's totally taking care of herself and she just loves the sound of the rain drops hitting the wood floors).
But Amy, even if it takes a little bit, manages to pull the problem out of her. She's not convinced that Surge is right (that Kit abandoned the place and decided he doesn't need her), about as much as she's not convinced that Surge is completely fine over the prospect of Kit abandoning her.
"Okay, okay. It's fine if you're worried about him, you know. And I don't think it's like you say!"
"I'm not worried about him. He can take care of himself, and his choices are none of my business. He can do what he wants."
Amy sighs, shaking her head. "If he's lost out there in all that heavy rain, I'll find him." And if Surge says anything after that, Amy doesn't hear her. She tunes out everything else for a moment as she turns her head, happening to glance out the back window.
When Amy spots a glimpse of Kit, standing out back in the heavy rain, she isn't sure whether she's sadder about the implications of this, or angrier at Surge for not looking out her own window. Heedless of anything Surge could be doing or saying at the moment, Amy opens the back door, fully intending to drag Kit inside.
"How long have you been standing out here?!"
Kit only shrugs, looks at Surge just past her. "Waiting for you to come back."
Surge grits her teeth, anger and relief rushing her heart at once. "You idiot." She stomps out of sight, looking around for a dry cloth, while Amy pulls Kit inside and tries to start a fire in the old fireplace.
And while Amy is still angry at Surge (all she had to do was look behind the cabin!), she can't help but smile when Surge drapes the dry blanket over him.
Now, as for Surge, at some point she informs Kit that she'll be leaving this place soon, as the enemy (she gestures to Amy) has found them. So, she'll be leaving before sunrise.
The statement isn't very direct, but Amy gets the point. Surge's statement is code for "If you want to go with me, you better be there".
And Kit, perhaps he smiles just slightly, so relieved that Surge does want him (not that he requires this. Of course, if Surge left for good, he'd most likely trail her from afar. He doesn't even require appreciation or genuine want. But that doesn't mean he can't feel happy when she proves she does care, even a little).
And I'd like to think that after finding out for sure that he'd just waited in the same place for two weeks, she takes him to do some of the things she'd done during that first week (under the guise of giving him some enjoyment, since he didn't do anything those two weeks, even though she'd ordered him to. Although deep down, she'd also wanted to do these things with him, so as to enjoy them without feeling lonely, to share this with him) and treats him a little before they find their new temporary sleeping place.

These two moments feel very similar... Both times, Silver is trying to do the right thing and protect people, but because of lack of evidence, he is ripped to shreds and cast out.
In Archie, we as the audience didn't yet know that he was right (mostly, there was a traitor, but the details were lost) but in IDW, he know he is right, and I think that's one of the reasons people are getting so uptight about it right now.
Silver is forced to walk away, feeling like a failure and nothing but trouble to everyone he encounters, but I know that just like last time, he will triumph and be able to help them when the time comes...

I love when a shape shifting villain changes into the form of a friend to get the hero not to hit back by taking advantage of their better nature but the hero doesn't give a shit and hits back anyways 10/10

have you read IDW 50 yet? if so, what is your opinion on it?
I have read it, yes. I personally enjoyed it, though I heard some people disliked or even hated some of the characterization within it.
Spoilers for IDW Sonic the Hedgehog #50 below the cut
The battle between Surge/Sonic and Kitsunami/Tails were exactly what I was expected. It was refreshing to see Tails have someone to relate to in terms of technology, and I was hoping that it would be enough to break Kitsunami's programming. I was disappointed to see just how big of a hold Surge had on him and his emotions, because it sort of negated all forms of character development for Kit as long as Surge was hellbent on her "revenge" against Sonic.
I was also happy to see that although Sonic was in danger of losing his life, he still remembered his development from the Metal Virus arc. He still valued life over everything, even if it meant leaving someone around who may end up doing something awful later down the line. He offered Surge something she may have never experienced before; genuine Friendship. All she knew was the master/weapon relationship she had with Starline and her synthesized master/servant relationship that she has with Kit.
It was unfortunate to see that no matter what Sonic said, Surge found the most pessimistic parts to pick apart, to the point where she renounced the world itself for throwing her aside. And still, despite all of that, Sonic's first reaction was to help her. To heal her. He wanted to give her a second chance, just as he had given one to Shadow and to Eggman/Tinkerer.
Also the entire interaction between Starline and Eggman was amazing, where the Doctor proved that no matter how logical you try to be, it means nothing if you set yourself in stone and refuse to adapt to all possibilities, no matter how outlandish. As well as Belle learning that her father truly will never come back and that it was up to her to find her own way and carve her own path.
All in all; I can see why some people were disappointed with the issue. The fight was very one-sided (towards Sonic and Tails), and the resolution to said fights were a bit lacking. But to denounce the comic, which gave such wonderful nods to past character development and interesting and profound banter? I can't agree with that.
Sonic the Hedgehog #50 was a great read. I wouldn't change a thing about it, and if you haven't read it yet, you're missing out.
