what an odd crossroads my identity stands at... as i watch video essays on youtube about my place in society as represented in media, i find that i understand more and more why it's so difficult to accept myself as aroace. in american media, asians experience this "model minority" stereotype, where the men are depicted as "almost asexual in a way that would not be predatory towards 'our women'" in a backhanded way basically saying asian men aren't good enough for american relationships. while i do not identify as cisgendered or heteronormative, it doesn't feel good to be told that. i dont want to be a threat to anyone, but i also do not want to be treated as a second rate citizen. some part of me, out of spite, thought being straight and being in a relationship with a white woman was me taking power back for myself from the societal norm. kinda feels like...i already play into so many of the stereotypes, i dont want to play into this one too just to prove them all right. but actually i dont know any asian guy friends of mine that are ace. and maybe the struggle is harder for them because they actually are interested in pursuing heteronormative relationships. and it makes me feel that i would misrepresent my fellow asian men by being me. there's no direction in this post, but this introspection will benefit me somehow, someday.

btw did u know that your government is supposed to work for you and that it's entire reason for existing is to ensure that everyone's fundamental rights are upheld? These rights include food, water, shelter, medicine, clothes, safety, education, infrastructure, child care, and much much more! Sounds like a lot? Not at all, that's what taxes are for! All of this is possible but only if the rich pay their fair share of taxes and the government is dedicated to spending those taxes properly and effectively!

I attended a local college women’s basketball game a few weeks ago. Team mate fell and sustained significant leg injury and had to be lifted off the court as she could not walk. Not one of her team mates came to her side when this occurred mid play to be of assistance to her, I was utterly shocked. WTF is happening to our society? I am a cancer nurse, I see it everywhere, clinic…hospital, people not thankful, rude. People not getting it. Dig deep. Be better. Stop being so Damn selfish.

being a wellness grifter is just a new way of enabling an already unjust system. You can’t change complex societal gender issues by trying to ✨heal and embrace your masc/fem energy✨. Like be for fucking real now.

How Avatar glorifies erasing disability
Avatar (2009) ends with Jake transferring his consciousness to his Avatar body, ultimately erasing disability in this society and planet. Angry Hippie  emphasizes the ability to move consciousness is a profound question and says, "While many thought they were being clever by dissecting this movie to exploit  its' flaws, they were merely peeling the first layer of the onion." (AVATAR: In-Depth Analysis)
In my opinion, there are layers of ableism that Angry Hippie missed. His favorite scene is when Jake (who has paraplegia) runs for the first time in his Avatar body. This scene I dislike the most falls into tropes of disabled people wanting to be "fixed" or "better." I cannot speak to how it feels to become disabled later in life, as Jake was. But I can say that these ableist messages portraying disabled people as weak and valuable only as inspiration are not helpful for anyone, disabled or not.
Internal ableism comes from society. Angry Hippie points out that Jake running as a person with paraplegia is only surface level. This I agree with, but he goes  on to say, "it was a brilliant way to build an emotional connection to the  audiences" and "on a deeper level, however, the visual representation of Jake, a  crippled man, is a reflection of the state of the human race."  (AVATAR: In-Depth Analysis)
In my opinion, the word "crippled" is somewhat offensive, but others have reclaimed it. The comments here demonstrate ableism because he's saying that Jake running is inspirational or at least emotional for the audience. Inspiration is what disabled characters are usually meant to convey on screen. My first impression of the film was that the disabled representation was adequate because the film did not revolve around disability.
That is a double-edged sword highlighting the line between erasing disability and presenting a fully realized character that happens to have a disability.

I've been seeing the "Public sex acts at Pride, eh? Give me LOCATIONS. Give me COORDINATES" post, and honestly? That's a good standard to apply to excessive (especially politically-motivated or conspiratorial) claims in general.
Oh, thousands of people voted who weren't eligible to vote? Then it won't be difficult to name a specific person and the election year and place in which that person was convicted of voter fraud.
Oh, this loud angry shouty video claims there are hundreds of people paid to deliver fraudulent ballots? Cool. Give me one documented instance of this happening.
Because a lot of "vague but terrible" allegations don't pass muster when you get down to specifics. They'll cough up a name and it wasn't anything close to the situation they were claiming, if they can find an example at all. Or they'll refuse to answer.
You won't convince the person you're talking to, usually, but you can sway neutral onlookers this way.
(I'm using voter fraud conspiracy as an example since that's the area where I have used this strategy most in my own life, but it can be applied more broadly.)

MODERN QUANDARIES
Chilling in my zone, with music on my phone, I look around, then I close my eyes, Breathe in deep, to feel me drown, In the thoughts of the world outside. Rain clouds loom in the summer skies, Flowers start to grow in the polar ice, Cut ourselves with a rusted knife, Then photograph when the waters rise. Girls too scared to step outside, While troops of law patrol all night, "First world need no women's rights", In the third world, "Yay, my man doesn't bite!" Frowning at a man when he starts to cry, Cheering a machine as it starts to smile, Hyping a guy who rhymes with Hate, Pushing away the one who swears to stay. Ignoring a war while its not a trend, What are rules for, if not to bend? Impose laws for saving the unborn, Turning blind when a pedo strikes. There is economic crisis and global warming, But we are too good at this game of escaping, With cancel culture and fantasy novels, Quirky obsessions and 2D shows. I lose my mind when I think of the world, Breathe out slow to feel me rise, Open my eyes while I look around, And the music stops as I step outside.

‘Supposed to be’ Is such a final word, don’t you think? It practically dictates something.
I’m supposed to be good at technology. Who said so?
I’m supposed to be good at academics. Okay, who told you that? I mean, sure it would be great if you excelled in academics, but just because you didn’t, that doesn’t mean you are any less of an exemplary person.
Just because you’re ‘supposed to be’ something, doesn’t mean that it’s a bad thing if you aren’t. Sometimes it’s good if you aren’t what you’re told to be.

People like me are treated so terribly in my country, they basically are living in survival mode, wanting nothing but the basic human rights because we don't even really have that. But then they are so in denial that they seem to not understand when I say I just wanna leave this place and never be associated with it. "But it's still your nationality though-" look I know and I don't care. That's like saying I'll aways be afab. Like yeah I guess. But do I need to be defined by that? Growing up where I did fucked me up for life. I am powerless to make societal changes here, and I think they make sure to keep as many of us powerless as possible. (I'm talking about minorities, obviously.) I know ideally no one should have to leave a place where they grew up, but that's not the reality, and I feel sorry for oppressed people in my country. But I don't want to ever settle for this kind of life and I'm not gonna be made to feel guilty about it. I'll move and legally change my name, catch me not giving a shit.
