Miles’ room was dark. Well, dark-ish. He tried though, pulling the curtains all the way shut, turning off the light in his room and the hallway, but the afternoon sun still gently weaved its way through the fibers of his curtains.

“What’s the point of this, Miles?”

“To get you to try and sleep,”

“It's four in the afternoon,”

“Naptime,”

“What?”

“Just try, mama, okay?”

You’d never been a good sleeper and usually stayed awake while Miles fell asleep in your arms, that was how it usually went. Even more so when he came to your window late at night after his Prowler duties, those visits mainly consisted of cleaning any wounds or scratches, on occasion giving him stitches, helping him change, and kissing the top of his head when he inevitably dozed off on your chest. You were usually up then anyway, it was a fun addition to your nighttime routine. Miles had only begun to worry about your sleeping patterns when you fell asleep at 9 am while you were over his, watching a telenovela with Mrs. Morales. Gently nudging you awake after the telenovela marathon at about 1 that afternoon, he fell into the pattern of observing your moods. Most of which during the day consisted of you constantly being tired, and yawning, but somehow always getting school work done that assisted in your straight A’s. At first, he assumed that it was just you putting too much pressure on yourself to perform, but when he realized these patterns continued well into school breaks, he started to worry.

He had started to realize that every time he came to your window after his Prowler work, you were up anyway, reading, writing, drawing, or pretty much any activity you could get your hands on. Again, at first, he thought this was endearing, and went as far as getting puzzles for you after he had interrupted the puzzle on the floor when he gently knocked on your window. And so a much-needed conversation ensued the morning after.

“Ma, I’m worried about you,”

“For why Miles?” You turn your attention away from the mirror where you’re laying your baby hair down.

“Ian never seen you sleep,”

“So?”

“Do you sleep?”

“Yeah, I just have some trouble with it is all,”

“I don’t make you sleepy?”

“You make me feel safe, comfortable, relaxed, and loved, but no Miles, you don’t make me sleepy,”

He huffed, falling back onto your duvet.

“What's wrong papá?”

“I’m worried about you,”

“Sueñito, you don’t need to be worried about me,”

“You fall asleep when most people would be awake starting their days, almost always during the first and second period, mama, that's not normal,”

“Maybe I’m just sleepy in general,” You were beginning to get defensive then, why did he care if you were tired usually?

He sighed then, rubbing his eyes and urging himself out of your bed. He didn’t want to fight with you, he never wanted to fight with you, so he had just decided to leave it alone then. However, the very same conversation was repeated about two weeks later. The two of you were walking home, as school had gotten out early that day, and you had slowly begun to slump onto Miles’ shoulder, yawning and rubbing your eyes.

“Ma?” There was a twinge of concern in his voice, it was barely even noon, is it normal to be this tired? “You okay?”

“‘m just tired,” You yawn, still clawing at your eyes.

“It’s 11:45,”

“So?”

“Mama,” he knew you were just being stubborn, but he also knew you didn’t want to admit that you had a problem sleeping. You didn’t like to ask for help, you tried to get things right on your own, and you usually did. “Be honest.”

“Fine,” you forced out, shame tugging at your cheeks, and Miles knew exactly what you meant by that

“Thank you,”

And so, the two of you were here, in this moment.

“Please? Just try for me,”

You huff plopping onto his mattress.

“Now what?”

“We wait,”

“Oh, joy,”

whenever i’m in your atmosphere

The two of you had been lying, in the dark, for about an hour and a half. Naturally, the sun was slowly beginning to set, hence dimming the light in his room.

At this point, you were fighting sleep. It’s not like you didn’t feel exhausted all the fucking time, it’s that you had this mental block in your head. It’s like when you’re so tired but you can’t manage to fall asleep, like someone is forcing your eyes open. It’s hell, and it frustrates you, makes you want to scream and cry and essentially just throw a tantrum. Not that you’d ever admit it, but you feel so powerless, so out of control. A sigh mixed with anger, frustration, and disappointment breezes through your lips as you press the heels of your palms into your eyes.

“Uh uh ma, don’t do that,” he whispers, gently pushing your hands away from your eyes. “What’s wrong?”

“This isn’t working,” you whine. “I turn seventeen in a year and I can’t even sleep right,”

“Hey hey hey, it’s not that serious,”

“I’m so tired, Miles,” you mumble, tears poking at your eyes.

“Amor, I know it’s frustrating, okay? I know how much you love to be in control and I get that, but this is so bad for you,”

“I know,”

“So can we try? Just one more time?”

“Yeah,”

“Do you want like, some kind of noise?”

“Can you just talk?”

“Yeah. I can do that,”

And he does. He talks about anything and everything, all while staring at you, your body pressed against him, your face angled upwards at him. Your full lips slightly parted in a little ‘o’ as your big brown eyes ogle up at him. To a lot of people, everything he’s saying would seem pretty mundane, but the way his voice soothes you is something different. His voice is calm, cool, and collected, his nuyo accent ever so prominent.

You’re not sure just how much time passes until you slowly begin to get groggy, your eyes heavy. Miles, obviously, takes notice and brings his voice down to a whisper.

“Dad woulda been so happy I met you, ma,”

Your movements are thick as syrup, you nod, trying to open your eyes more so he knows that he has your full attention.

“No no no, don’t do that,” he whispers, running a hand over your eyes, forcing them to droop lazily once again.

“Jus wan’ you to know ‘m listening” you slur, languidly clutching his wrist. The point of this action? You didn’t know, but you held onto him anyway.

“You’re always listening, Ian gotta worry bout that.” He mumbles, softly stroking your cheeks with the pads of his thumbs. His hands are calloused and rough, but they’re always soft and gentle, making sure to love every curve of you. As your eyes begin to wilt close, he delicately traces your cupid bow, in response to which your lightly freckle-kissed nose scrunches, your brows tightly knitting themselves together. With a quiet laugh, he gently runs his fingers over your eyebrows, desperately trying to relax your face, to which you hum tiredly in response.

“Kiss?”

“Mmmm,” you groan, fatigue finally catching up to you, in affirmation. Taking the hint, he kisses you- your cheeks, chin, jaw, everywhere– peppering light butterfly kisses all over your face. Gently, you sigh and fully close your eyes, your head relaxing into the pillow. Smiling, he brushes gentle kisses onto both of your eyelids and then your nose. Cradling your head into his chest he kisses the bonnet covering your hair, inhaling the scent of hair product and oil, the scent of you, something he adored in a way that words couldn’t describe.

“Sleep, princesa.”

People not believing James and Miranda are romantic really baffles me as well. I get that its a plot twist that James loves Thomas but this isnt a plot twist where its you think person a loves person b but they actually love person c.

And like the evidence for them not being romantic is like what? That we dont really see them kiss? That the one time we are shown they are having sex its bad? Im pretty sure the sex scene is more to establish that James is not like the other pirates. And there are a plethora of reasons for why the sex was bad this one time instead of jumping to the conclusion they only have bad sex. For example james is wounded at the time. As for the kissing people dont need to kiss often to be in a romantic relationship. Anne and Jack dont kiss that much on the show either. And theres the fact everyone knows barlow is flints woman that would not have come out of nowhere.

Dont people like the poly aspect of it? Is it biphobia? I hope not because this is the best i have seen of a poly relationship in media, though I havent come across it a lot. Where i can clearly see how and why three people all love each other rather than it being a convenient way to end a love triangle where i feel like two of them dont care for each other that much.

Can I just say THANK YOU for giving me these Miranda-James thoughts? Because thank you.

Miranda Barlow and her ways of being loving, her ways of being romantic and sexual are all pretty unique and there's not a single thing about her that isn't complicated. In addition, she's a WOMAN woman, not girly, not crushing out, sexually liberated AND discreet about it, not constantly in the throes of some trembly emotion but is actually a very tough person, designed to be a fully grown lady - in sum, she's a bit hard to wrestle with for a lot of people. She's happily (very very much) married to a man and they adore each other as people AND ALSO for how they can together build a joint life they both like. There's a hard edge of pragmatism to her, which I find super hot, because I'm a hard edged pragmatic woman myself, but I think that makes it hard to see how romantic she actually is. The joy of the Thomas-James-Miranda poly connection for me is from the fact that these two men not only find her hot but they find her hardness and pragmatism hot. SO unusual. Second, she likes men who are bi, and doesn't seem to have much interest in monogamy or faithfulness at all. Again, non standard. Third, she DOES have a romantic relationship with James BUT there's always that constantly calcuating, assessing mind that she has - she approaches James because he's cute, she can tell he's a rule breaker and fucking around with rule breakers is ironically a good way to be discreet, AND she can see that he's crushing out on her husband, which she actually likes about him. She recruits James into the group project of protecting and enabling Thomas - that was part of the attraction. It's not a swooning, like, I must have you and will die without you type thing at all, which is generally the easily digestible formulation of romance. Moreover, Miranda uses sex in a variety of ways - for fun, for love, as stress relief, as a game, to make a point to a houseguest - and on pirate island she just does NOT have as many options as she used to in London, so I take it as, we saw her have "make Guthrie unhappy and I need an orgasm" sex rather than "express my desire for you" sex with Flint, which he fully accepted and uh, cooperated with.

And then there's the fact that shipping in most fandoms tends to be done by male-attracted women who want to just do yaoi (very valid, I do this in other fandoms, just not this one) and so it's kind of inconvenient to have to acknowledge that James Flint does actually have a romantic relationship with a woman and does actually have sexual attraction to women, so that may be motivating the desire to just dismiss their romantic connection out of hand.

By the way - I would recommend (unless you are a super very pro John Silver person in which case the episode comes with a warning) listening to this podcast episode made by @heycarrots (It's REALLY great, overall, as a podcast full stop). TLDR for our discussion - in that episode Dr. Tankard posits that James Flint's romantic orientation and real sex life is basically to participate in a group project - he loves being part of a group that is doing a thing, and that's where all his motivation, erotic energy, everything, comes from, and that analysis really works very well for my understanding of Flint.

Ranking every ninjago season and why :3

(Yall are gonna 100% hate me for this)

(Spoilers for Dragons rising kinda)

I hate it sm, it literally could've been one of the best seasons in ninjago history, but there was WAY too much filler and was so underwhelming and predictable. Didn't even feel like a Zane season during the second half it felt more like a Lloyd season. ALL of the ninja should've fought Zane + Pixal, and she should've come as well. AND THE FACT THAT ZANE'S TRAUMA WAS NEVER BROUGHT UP. LIKE HUH????? I will forever hate this season with a passion no matter what anyone says.

I really can't care for it at all it just feels like the ninjago writers ran out of ideas(which I completely understand, but still) you could literally skip the entire thing and the whole plot line would STILL make sense. The only time I genuinely rewatch this is if I'm THAT bored. Really should've stuck the to idea with Jay's mother running away from something(which they 100% should've done in the first place)

Before yall come to my house and beat the shit out of me, HEAR. ME. OUT. Kinda the same situation with Prime Empire. You could skip it, and the show would still make sense. It's never addressed after the season, and all of it is just...wack. Nadakkan is a fucking creep towards Nya, like mf BACK OFF. And Jay isn't any better. He's constantly disrespecting Nya's boundaries throughout a majority of the season, and I do NOT understand how Jay fans justify that. And the amount of sexism in it??? I just don't like this season in general and would very much like to stay away from it.

15. The Island

It felt like it was just there for the purpose of being there. It's important to the plot the next season but I felt like that could've been resolved with a little b plot. Ik it's technically not a season but idc. That's it. Nothing else I can say abt it.

14. Crystalized

It had sm potential, but the second half felt so rushed. The first 12 eps were really well paced, but the last 18 felt like a whole other season. The entire ending was rushed, and it was so hyped as well. I was at the edge of my chair waiting and waiting but....nothing. I never really believed that Pixal was gonna die, but I 100% expected Wu to die or SOMEONE to make a huge sacrifice. The original ending wouldn't have been much better bc at that point, there would've been only 2 eps left. AND NO ONE BROUGHT UP THE FACT THAT ZANE DEFEATED THE OVERLOAD. NOT EVEN LLOYD???? "Third time's the charm," MF ZANE DEFEATED HIM THE THIRD TIME FOR WAY LONGER THAN YOU DID AND NOT EVEN THE OVERLOAD MENTIONED IT LIKE WHAT??? AT LEAST REFRENCE IT OR SUM.

13. Hands of Time

To get something out of the way, the animation reminded me of Miraculous Ladybug.(IM SORRY) The season felt odd but in a good way. And knowing that Pixal was in that Samurai X suit makes her personality in s7 10× more funnier. I don't hate it but I don't love it at the same time. It's a 50/50

12. The Pilots

Since it's the start or it all, it's going to get a decent ranking. I really like it and it did just fine for a pilot ep(s) But other seasons are just better :3

11. Master of The Mountain

It's a really nice season to get back at I fricking LOVE the little flashback of Cole's mother. But at the same time it's a bit forgettable.(don't come for me) That's it. :3

10. Legacy of The Green Ninja

One of the classic seasons. It's good enough to make it to the top 10. This was where ninjago was originally supposed to end. Its really nice and seeing Lloyd battle his dad was sad :,) All the episodes are really fun and entertaining but other seasons are just better :3

9. Rise of The Snakes

The first season of ninjago where it all truly started. Much like s2 all the episodes are really entertaining. It's really heartwarming to watch all the ninja grow up and change throughout the rest of the seasons. It's always a classic you can come back to. But other seasons are still just better

8. Possession

It's a really nice season and the pros outweigh the cons but I really don't like Morro(atp yall finna hate me) He's like Kai if his "I'm supposed to be the green ninja" phase never left. His redemption arc was so fricking boring and forgettable that I don't even REMEMBER what happened and i'm too lazy to go back. But the episodes are also really entertaining and a bit funny.

7. Rebooted

TOO MANY PPL DONT LIKE THIS SEASON AND IDK WHY. Okay the love triangle was extremely unnecessary and didn't help progress the plot at all. But all the good really outweighs it. It's the birth of the best Canon ship(which is pretty much all I post abt here) Really entertaining. AND HAS ONE OF THE BEST SCENES IN HISTORY. Ik yall were in TEARS after the last ep.

6. Dragons Rising

It's a really well paced season and MASSIVELY improved from crystalized. THEY ACTUALLY GIVE ZANE A PERSONALITY AND I AM HERE FOR IT. It gives off a really well based story, and it's really entertaining. Ik a majority of Jay fans were upset bc he only got like 14 seconds of screen time if that, but with everything going on and at that point there were 3 eps left. The story pacing would've been extremely rushed, so I'm kinda glad that happened. Nothing else to say.

5. March of The Oni

Really great season. Just really hits you in the feels. Nice season you can always rewatch. I love the Pixal/Cole/Zane interaction in the first ep really funny. The rest of the season is pretty self explanatory

4. Tournament of Elements

This season is one of the best in the show. Like S10 it's pretty self explanatory. Introduces us to a bunch of new concepts. GARMADON SACRIFICING HIMSELF WAHHHHHHH. The only thing I genuinely have a problem with is the Zane amnesia part. I really wanted it to last the whole season like make Zane have little flashbacks bit by bit. That could've been really interesting. The rest is amazing.

3.Sons of Garmadon

SO MANY PPL WHO STOPPED WATCHING AFTER THE REDESIGNS MISSED OUT OMG. It's so good. Good characters. Good villains. Good story concept. GREAT execution. Just mwah. Crystalized kinda ruined Harumi's arc. Like I would've been fine if she stayed dead. HER ARC WAS PERFECT. I love her sm. Also has one of the best outfits/weapons. THE REDESIGNS DID THEM JUSTICE THEYRE SM BETTER THAN THE OLD ONES(don't find me pls.) It's great would recommend :3

2. Seabound

ONE OF THE BEST SEASONS JUST MWAH. Nya's arc was really nice, and her merging with the ocean pulled on my heartstrings istg. HER INTERACTIONS WITH HER MOTHER JUST...*cries forever*

MY FAVORITE SEASON OMG EVERYTHING ABT IT IS FUCKING PERFECT. The music. The characters. EVERYTHING. Has one of the best intros in ninjago. I love how Lloyd was trying to cope with his friends being "dead" and being so relieved that they're actually alive. The designs are so good. The story progresses really smoothly and just...*chefs kiss*

IM PISSING MYSELF OH MY LORD I JUST READ THE SEVEN MINUTES IN HEAVEN ONE AND YOU WRITE MATT SO WELL OMG. I saw that requests were open and I had an idea 👉👈👀. Okay so the reader is this self conscious nervous person but they’re super sweet and adorable and pining for Matt, and they work at a cafe and go way back with Matt and Fog or Karen or sum and always brings them coffee or lunch. One day Matt says something absentmindedly like “good girl” and hears her heart beat go crazy and he keeps trying to do subtle things to fluster her again like touching her face to see what she looks like and cuddling with her during movie night or something, like whatever you want seriously have fun with it. Bonus points if the reader accidentally flusters him back. Also do you do Emoji anons? And if you do can I be 🧪 anon?

Letting your cousin Karen convince you to apply at nelson and Murdock turned out to be simultaneously the best and worst decision of your life. Jobs, the whole process of them all, it was stressful for you to say the least. You had never had much confidence or self esteem in general growing up, so the process of having to fill out a job application and elaborate on all your life and job experiences in a few short paragraphs, and then have to come in and be interviewed? Borderline terrifying. Having to kiss up and people please your way into a position was your least favorite way to spend your day. But your cousin Karen convinced you nonetheless, prompting you to apply for a job at Nelson and Murdock. Which as formerly stated, was the best and worst decision of your life.

The best because you had the privilege of meeting Matthew Murdock, well that and you finally had a job again. The worst because you realized within a matter of weeks since starting your new job that you were slowly but surely starting to fall for your new boss, Matthew Murdock. It wasn't his fault he was ever so charming, and occasionally flirted with you without even realizing it. It was the little things Matt did that really got you going.

Like when he, Foggy, and Karen all went out for lunch and you insisted on staying back at the office to organize some files. Not because you wanted to or actually thought the office needed to be any more organized, but because despite working with the trio every day you still couldn't help but feel socially impotent around them; especially Matt. It was hard enough for you to express yourself as it was, but around Matt you just got so flustered over the smallest things. So when they all came back from lunch and Matt brought back your favorite dish in a take-out box you damn near melted.

"I didn't need our best secretary going hungry so I thought I'd bring you back your favorite." Matt said with a smile, extending his arm out handing you a delicious smelling box. Your heart softened at the gesture, and a light rose shade spread over your cheeks. "I'm your only secretary, Matty." you quipped back, internally patting yourself on the back for presenting with a confident tone. Matt just smiled and chuckled as you took the bag from you, it was a shame you couldn't hear his heartbeat spike at the nickname you called him.

Little shared moment like that continued back and forth between you and Matt, your self esteem so consistently low that you never allowed yourself to believe for even a second that maybe Matt felt the same way towards you that you felt about him. That didn't mean his actions didn't affect you. . .

One night, after Karen and Foggy had gone home. You and Matt were working diligently in your offices, your head was so deep in paperwork you didn't even notice that Matt had walked up to your desk. "Hey y/n? Can you-" Matt paused upon hearing your breathing hitch, noticing he startled you. "Sorry." he breathed out. "It's alright, what do you need Matty?" you asked with a soft smile. There was a moment of silence before Matt continued, clearing his throat before. asking: "Could you re-print these documents in braille for me please? Foggy obviously forgot, that or he left a blank stack of papers on my desk for no reason." he asked with a chuckle.

You took the stack of papers from Matt's grasp, your fingers barely brushing over his as you did. Eyeing a small note written in pen on top that read: 'Copy for Matt!!' funny how Foggy forgot notes he wrote even for himself. "Sure thing, Matt." you spoke sweetly, standing up and making your way to the braille printer to copy the documents. "I'll bring them to you once I'm done." you said, letting Matt know. He merely nodded and went back into his office. About twenty or so minutes later, you walked back into Matt's office with a stack full of papers in hand.

"Here's those documents you asked for." you said with a gentle tone, setting them down on Matt's desk. "Hmm, good girl, thank you." Matt said absentmindedly, not moving from his focused position. You on the other hand, froze like a deer in headlights as your heart rate spiked. Suddenly all Matt could hear was your heart beating rapidly, thumping wildly in his ears. He paused whatever he was reading for a moment, his fingers stilling over the braille as he wondered why you were suddenly so flustered. Then, Matt recalled what he had said.

A devilish smirk had found its way onto his face as he asked: "Everything alright y/n?"

"Mhmm!" you hummed, quickly backing out of Matt's office and heading to your desk to gather your things. "I'm gonna... head out for the night. Bye Matt!" you said in a rushed tone, throwing some papers together as you grabbed your bag and headed towards the door. "Y/n, wait-" Matt called out, but you were already out the door trying to catch your breath.

One might think your reaction would've prompted Matt to ease up on his flirtatious actions, but he chose quite the opposite path. You couldn't even remember the last time Matt called you by your name. It was always sweetheart, doll, bunny, or darling. Don't even get me started on the fleeting touches, and the ever present way Matt would always rest his hands on your hips when passing by you in the office.

One late evening, after a heavy 5 o'clock happy hour Foggy had insisted on, everyone was giggling and little to no work was getting done. "Who- *hic!* who thought it was a good idea to let Foggy bring three bottles of whiskey to the office for a *hic!* 'happy hour'?" Karen asked, a case of the hiccups occasionally interrupting her speech because of how fast she drank.

"Foggy... Foggy thought it was a good idea." you said with a giggle, spinning around on your desk chair. "and we all just, went with it." you finished off, stopping in your chair as the room continued to move around you.

"Are you implying it wasn't a good idea L/N?" Foggy cracked at you. "Well considering the room is spinning and I'm pretty sure I'm sitting still right now... yes I'm implying this wasn't a good idea." you said with a vaguely nauseated tone. "I think I need a drink." you added, stumbling to stand up. "Coming right up!" Foggy said excitedly. "No no, I'm talking water Fogs." You said with a roll of your eyes and you nearly tripped over your own feet making your way over to the office's makeshift kitchen. "Let me help you with that sweetheart." Matt said assertively as he came to your aid, hand wrapping around your waist as he helped guide you to the kitchen. You missed the not-so-subtle 'there he goes again' look Foggy shot Karen, she merely giggled in response.

Maybe it was the alcohol, or maybe it was just Matt being Matt. But in this moment, as soon as he got you out of sight from Foggy and Karen he backed you up against the counter and kept his hands firmly placed on your hips. You stared up at Matt's red lenses, a small hiccup escaping your lips. A tension filled moment passed as neither of you spoke a word, then Matt's grip on your waist tightened as he lifted you up and seated you on the kitchen counter. You gasped at his actions, heat traveling up to your face and down to your core.

Matt stepped aside, grabbing a clean glass and turning on the sink as he filled up the cup for you. Once he turned the water off, he stepped back in front of you with the glass in hand. "Open wide, bunny." Matt said sweetly, placing a hand on your thigh encouragingly. But the only thing that action encouraged you to do was mentally melt, as you parted your lips for Matt. He gently brought the cool glass to your lips, tipping it ever so gently allowing you to take a swig.

When Matt pulled the glass away, a dribble of water trickling down your lips. After placing the glass down, Matt brought his thumb to your lips and wiped away the drops left behind. The feeling of the rough pad of Matt's thumb against your plump lips, was heavenly. As he pulled his hand away, it didn't go far. One hand on your thigh, the other now on your jaw, mindlessly pulling you closer.

"Matty?" you asked, voice barely above a whisper.

"Yes doll?" he responded, breath fanning over your lips.

"Kiss me." you begged, the alcohol in your system providing you the confidence you always needed. Your plea was all that Matt needed, his hand slipping behind you neck and pulling you in for a kiss more intoxicating than all the alcohol you had just consumed. The taste of whiskey ever-present on both of your lips, a sloppy, heated kiss. When you squeaked out a small moan as the hand Matt had on your thigh was drifting a little high. Just then, Karen walked into the kitchen wondering what was taking you so long to grab a simple glass of water. As she turned on the light, watching you and Matt hastily remove yourself from each other's lips, she chuckled dryly as she asked: "Really Matt? My cousin?".

"Sounds like you owe me twenty bucks Page!" Foggy shouted from the other room, causing everyone to laugh.

In Deep Geek has posted a new video about Arya and the faceless men! Do you watch these type of videos from theorists on youtube?? Just a suggestion to watch it for you not to analyze it or something in here btw, no pressure. As much as i find intriguing her whole FM arc I really hate it too. I feel like no one really has theories about this whole arc nor where is that gonna lead her plotline. Plus the favor that it has done this fandom to see her have a identity crisis and sum her up in just revenge, bloodthirsty, kill a queen or go to kill her relatives from brainwashing. I really hate it. I really like Braavos though and the parts where she sells and the ships , the faith and the acting crews, and inns I like that. Maybe I‘m a basic bitch lmao

i do not! and i found the thumbnails offputting because they used screencaps from the show lol but i might check it out at some point. i have been looking for interesting ideas about the FM and the sealord (ect) on the boards but, yeah there ain’t much.

the fandom doesn’t really have good theories about anything in general, but they will try to pass their hcs off as speculation in which their faves win power/glory/love with no obstacles at all while arya is reduced to an unimportant prop who gets nothing but death and exile. most can’t even get the basic logistics of the FM down (hence why theres so many stupid “arya steals [x character’s] face” takes) so forget about big picture theories regarding them. the fandom is still operating under the assumption that arya went rogue in mercy too when thats almost definitely not the case.

arya’s arc and braavos as a location both get written off as being disconnected and serving no greater purpose to the “main plot”.....somehow bc arya has the 3rd most chapters in asoiaf and between the iron bank/the FM/the sealord braavos is tied to just about every other storyline in the series. ie: what arya did in mercy directly effects the fight for the iron throne. she is already involved! more so than A LOT of characters actually and will continue to be. its all significant. grrm isnt writing it for no reason. we were given a map that was created using material from arya’s twow chapters (plural) and its full of spoilery content but, again, its like *crickets* from the fandom.

but i love braavos too. so whatever more for us. you can tell grrm has a lot of fun with the worldbuilding there and i think its going to be a standout location in twow. the secret city!!! im obsessed with the venice vibe. and honestly? we haven’t even seen the best it has to offer yet either imo. the uncloaking is gonna be wild. it doesnt get any better than a masquerade.

hi wqa!! do you have any advice about writing love confession? im aromantic so im struggling to figure out how to put this character's thought and love into words. im writing from 1st person and the person is confessing isnt the protag so i cant rely on stuff like thoughts to show how they feel

Character Confessing Their Love

I'm sure opinions vary, but I think generally-speaking, less is usually more with love confessions. In other words, I don't think it necessarily serves you to have your character go into a dramatic monologue about their feelings for the other person. It can work, certainly, but there are a lot of great love confession moments that are just direct admissions.

One of my favorites ever is from the TV show LOST. I won't get too specific in case anyone hasn't seen it yet and wants to, but Character A and B are close from the beginning, but B gets into a sort of relationship with C, who is kind of an ass. Eventually, B asks A why they're always so nice to C, and A says, "Because I love you." That was the sum total of it. It wasn't a big speech about feelings or a long declaration. It was just this person saying, "I love you, and that's why I'm nice to your significant other even though they're an ass." And it was quite lovely.

If you prefer to go into a longer declaration, however, I think a good way to do it is to translate it into cause and effect. In other words, how does this character's love for the other person effect them? Maybe they can't sleep because they can't stop thinking about them, or because they're worried they won't feel the same. Maybe they're feeling hope for the first time. Maybe they're motivated to do better or be a better person because of their love for this person. Maybe their love for this person gave them the confidence they needed to accomplish something. Simply having them tell the other character that goes a long way. For example, imagine two longtime friends meeting after one has achieved the lifelong dream of running a marathon. They hug, laugh because the one is sweaty, and the other congratulates them. Then, they say, "I couldn't have done it without you." And the other bashfully ducks from the compliment. And then the marathon runner says, "No, really... This isn't something I ever thought I'd be able to do, but the thing is, I realized that I love you. I love you so, so much, and probably always have. And that love--it made me feel like I could do anything. It gave me the confidence and courage I needed to get through the training. So, thank you."

Now, obviously, that would need to be backed up by the events of the story. We would have needed to see this character silently being in love with the other character, and feeling inspired by those feelings to train for this marathon. Otherwise the admission won't mean anything to the reader. But, the point is, you've taken the feelings and translated them into a cause, and using the effects of those feelings to illustrate their love for the other person.

Hi, I haven’t messaged you or anything in so long !! I was like 16 the last time i even posted on tumblr, i’m literally 20 in two days !!

I haven’t checked up with you since The Ride but you used to be my favorite blog and my favorite fanfic writer. You fully shaped my late teens and ur old fics got me through everything from GCSES to Covid.

And then i stopped using Tumblr cos Catfish just vanished like but i’m so happy to see you’re still writing like and you’ve found new things to write about. I went to Uni n stuff and my whole life changed and i completely forgot about ur fics. They used to be a form of escapism, and helped my romanticise my life. They genuinely helped me feel lighter when life was just heavy like. and now i don’t need them anymore and all that seems so sad and distant, my life is so so great now and i got through the not so great bits with your writing.

I just thought it was worth letting you know that you shaped a girls teen years. I completely accredit you to all the fun I had romanticising my life because of ur fics, and you literally have no idea. like some random girl in Manchester accredits some writer girl in wherever to shaping her entire late teens into some indie cringe fest nightmare that she secretly loved (don’t tell)

like i would never fess up to it anywhere except anonymous on tumblr but you were one of my only friends at times and i would read ur fics and sit alone in my room and listen to the strokes (who id never heard of until you) or id walk home from school listening to catb and imagine i was on some english coast walking to the pub with the lads and the sun setting. it sounds really sad i know and it fucking genuinely really was i was a sad lonely girl but i had so much fun!

and my music, like all of my music taste came from you !! all my book recs came from you!! i love kerouac to this day because of you.

Okay, first of all, thanks for sending me this bestie it really hit me in the chest because a) i cant believe ive had that level of impact on someone else's life and in such like a cute little way? And b) because everything youve just described is exactly what i was doing too!! Like using my little fanfictions to escape to, romanticising my dreary/lonely little life and using it to imagine a better future for myself...

Like, i started writing Oxygen when id broken up with my abusive ex, was livibg alone in a student flat, id lost ALL my pals to said ex, i was floundering at uni feeling stuck and alone and like, i used to get stoned and listen to the national and live in this little daydream which was that story and its probably one of the only reasons i survived that year!

And The Ride, i had the idea for that when i was trapped at my grandparents painting their house for them. That whole bit at the beginning where Maria is painting the B&B stemmed from a days daydreaming trying to romanticise my dreary little life.

Basically most of the fics i wrote were me creating the characters i wanted to be more like, like fliss and saffron, i wanted to be that kind of positive, confident, carefree girl and writing the characters helped me believe that I could be more like that.

And like idk, you really summed up what i was doing for me, and I'm glad u were able to romanticise your life too! I think its an underrated and important coping mechanism tbh, if you cant daydream up a better reality for yourself, how can u ever achieve a better reality for yourself?

I also think thats maybe why I don't write as often now too, generally my lifes much better than it was, I'm happier, i dont need to imagibe these friends for myself because i have a really solid group of friends, and I have B and im cared about and no ones out to hurt me anymore. So i dont need to escape to my fanfictions so much anymore idk.

Still sometimes its lovely to revel in nostalgia isnt it.

Also omg i cant believe u read those books cause of me, and heard the strokes cause of me, thats so fucking cool <3 <3 im glad we were friends back then and had eachother, i think thats so cool that without knowing eachother we've had that impact on one another (because honestly the people who read my fics and comment and send me anons have all supported me and made me feel less alone and lame)

heyy girlie (gender neutral) I’ve become way too invested into ur OC Petra and their story .. Just wanted to share some HC’s i thought of over fangirling over them <3

• Petra picks up Spanish from Miguel (Can’t decide if they learn on their own or Miguel takes the time to teach them)

• Possibly sleeps in web sometimes? or web hammock??

• Their suit also has some kind of sugar glider style fabric stretching out from under the arms that help them glide/get around. (appearing as needed)

• ^^ I’d like to think they wouldn’t use it all that much, but every once in a while they just whip it casually and everyone’s like “so they can just fly?” (Material’s sum similar to that whole cape thing Miguel had on at Gwen’a earth)

• They’re extremely in tuned with their spidey sense. Helping them stay ahead from accidental/intentional mishaps from bigger ppl. (Maybe did training/meditation to develop it over the yrs?? Karate kid type beat) Also has really good intuition in general.

• (To go with that ^^) Some individuals who become close with Petra find that their spider senses become instinctively more aware of them and keeps them from accidental mishaps.

(From here on is basically Petra and the gang bc yes to interactions with them )

• Petra becoming part of the “Team Miles” gang >> (Them practically kidnapping Petra into one of their own and making sure they feel included and etc >>>

• Like, they’re 100% in the groupchat

• The gang send all the “short friend” tiktoks in there (They pretend to be annoyed by this)

• Sleepovers >>>>>>

• Petra would melt Rio’s heart.

• Imagine the gang having dinner at Miles’s and Petra’s already pulling out their own tupperware from home. (not wanting to create a fuss or any awkwardness) and Rio just sets down a saucer in front of them with just the tiniest of tamelas all tied up perfectly and it’s just <3 (and you KNOW Rio’s sending her back home with leftovers)

• Spiderbyte has at least once or twice adjusted her avatar to be their size for Petra’s comfort. (Petra said they were fine but Margo insisted.) ((I’d like to think she’s one of their 1st close friends outside of Miguel and Jess))

• Petra offers to add bluetooth to miles suit after overhearing him complain how uncomfy airpods are under his mask. Under the condition that he shares his playlist with them.

• They falls in love Earth 1610’s (Miles’s earth) music. (I feel like this is how they hit it off??)

• Also Miles and Petra bonding over being “different” in their own ways >>>

yeah im not crazy about a love triangle either but i feel like there's no point in worrying about it at this point bc it's gonna happen anyway lol hopefully it's done in a satisfying way that leaves room for other storylines, my only concern is how they're gonna fit all that drama in 6 episodes without rushing it but we'll see! i'm happy to get those characters back

same, i can sum up my feelings about love triangles in general with 'UGH', but like i said if done right they don't necessarily have to be a bad thing. in this case they're so young that being with somemone else could be a learning experience for him in different ways. it could also solidify for him that wille is the only one for him, and do the same for wille regarding him. there might be some delicious angst and pining, that's always fun! well, when you know the outcome is good, which i really don't see any way in which they don't end up together eventually, they're 100% endgame.

so really, it's all about the writing for me. if they convince me it's needed and adds to the story, that it helps develop simon's and wille's characters and their relationship, if it's executed well, then i could be ok with it. so i'm just hoping for the best bc i want to believe the writers know what they're doing and won't fuck things up just for the drama and shock value. there's so much love and care put into this show so hopefully they won’t let us down.

also i get your concern, there's all these characters and they each have their own dramas to deal with, but i guess it depends on how the season ends for each of them? it's like while watching s1 you're thinking 'how are they gonna resolve everything??' and the answer was 'they're not!' unless this is the final season then they could take their time with all the drama and leave stuff to be resolved in s3. i just hope they manage to balance everything in a good way and not just have nonstop drama the entire time + that we still get plenty of wilmon interactions despite the situation b/w them being the way it is.

like you i just wanna see them all again, we've been waiting a long time for it and i miss them and i know they're gonna kill it :)

In regards to this post! Feel free to send more~!

Thank you for asking about Hyuna, its a unique choice because I feel like shes both enigmatic but also gives a lot of material for how little we've seen of her! I ended up rambling, so let me just tuck this under a...

Thinking about her Even A Little Bit can send me into a spiral of character speculation, but I wouldnt say thats exactly headcanons--thus, I didnt mark that for her! And I really need to make my character speculation post, itll just be genuinely SO LONG for even one character, much less the six of them, lol, kdaljbnadfkjn- orz

I definitely have the feeling that Hyuna will be a very active in the plot, so thats why shes a BEAST, shes going to go ham somehow, trust me. Putting her in a salad blender is about the same as putting her in Alien Stage, and the squeaking and holding her gently in my hands pretty much sums of my feelings whenever I rotate Hyuna in my brain. Ultimately, IM GOING TO BE HURT WHEN SHE DIES, BECAUSE IM PRETTY CONVINCED SHES GOING TO DIE, LOL.

I actually genuinely thought Hyuna was going to live or even potentially take Mizi's place as the MC of Alien Stage, but due to this art and a moot pointing out thats MIZI and not Hyuna (due to the outfit), I can only assume Luka and Mizi meet (as implied in the art) because Luka BEAT HYUNA in their match, so.........

Its a fairly interesting twist if thats the case, because I think that based off Hyuna's apparent desperation to survive and disdain for Luka, itd be easy to assume she would win. Its just going to be sooo sooooo sad for me because I KNOW shes going to have a breakdown and/or try to lash out in her last moments against Luka when she loses. In her brief depiction singing in Sweet Dream, Hyuna looks like shes SINGING HER HEART OUT, and imo, that tells me that despite the hatred, Hyuna can possibly respect Luka enough to give them a fair match rather than straight up trying to murder them. I also think Luka is probably going to win in their match by virtue of Luka's been hinted to be kind of famous and the votes will be purely popularity rather than consideration of effort, quality, passion, etc....extra pain. c:

In my optimism, my current thoughts are: Hyuna vs. Luka happens and Hyuna dies (likely), Hyuna vs. Luka happens and Luka dies (not unlikely, just significatly less likely than I thought before), Hyuna vs. Luka happens with Hyuna losing but she manages to escape (Very Optimistic, Extra Badass Points For Her Tho), or Luka actually battles a rando in the first set of rounds, while Hyuna is an outside force for Alien Stage/trying to sabotage him (fun but honestly a stretch).

Expanding on the last option above, I think its too soon for Luka or Hyuna to die, especially since we dont know much about either of them. Hyuna being an outsider also would make every match in the first set of rounds unique in their own way, as Round 1 establishes, Round 2 has murder, and Ivan's round would serve as a baseline of whats normal (if it goes as I speculate, lol). I also think that Luka and Hyuna are both from an older generation of Alien Stage contestants; thus, one could argue that would make their round unique enough on its own. But I still think itd be perceived as a "standard/baseline" round too similar to what I assume Ivan's round will be. Thus, the last option would have Hyuna be an outsider with no risk of being killed, while Luka also lives by steamrolling their opponent, lol. As both of them provide backstory and thoughts on the other until they actually interact~!

BUT! I think the unique factor could also be fulfilled by the opportunity that Hyuna vs. Luka happens but she escapes, Ill definitely take that. Especially since it seems Hyuna is going to sing AT SOME POINT (Sweet Dream)... If Hyuna can escape, hopefully she can just survive the entire series afterwards, lol.....

Thats not even getting into how I think their dynamic is, how they view each other, and/or how they got to viewing each other that way, but nonetheless...I think a much of that is definitely more speculation and would honestly not find it toooooooo worth saying here because we just dont have that much info of them to work off yet. gacha game anon - not particularly talking about gacha games this time. Im really curious about your thoughts on the overarching plot and character arcs in csm.

im someone who, when i find any enjoyable manga, tends to read it all in one sitting. this has led to a very many 5 am burning my eyes while desperately attempting to finish an entire manga before 7 am because I have a good rhythm going. chainsaw man was one of many of these instances, so I read up to about chapter 108 in one sitting. due to having it all come at me at light speed but still retaining most of the information, I saw character development and plot arcs happen in their entirety in a couple of hours. going to get into light spoilers for the manga here so feel free to tag that if your followers need that. but I am very curious to hear your opinions on makimas character arc and the general ending to part one. personally i think the author massively dropped the ball and completely wrecked multiple characters in the middle of their plot development while having them die in trite and meaningless ways, especially with aki, whom I think was done the absolute dirtiest with that. it felt to me that the author lost the plot and tried to do something big and meaningful without actually knowing what they had set up, leading to a completely disappointing, rushed, and unsatisfying end to a part that could have used multiple years more development, or at least a more gentle hand in crafting the finish.

anyways, all that to say I'm interested in your thoughts on all of this since from what I have seen, you hold csm in high regard. not that I think it's bad though, haha, just good if you're in for a fun ride not a deep well crafted one.

Chainsaw Man is a pretty jarring experience for a lot of people because the story is pretty blunt about its themes.

I'm rendering a video right now about the overarching theme of ignorance, something that all of the cast embraces in some fashion.

Fujimoto is a writer that's not really afraid to axe his characters, but he generally tells you how they're going to die well in advance, especially with Chainsaw Man.

We know from the story that Aki had about two years to live because of how liberally he has used the weapons at his disposal; and Aki has long-since stopped looking at himself objectively once Himeno passes away because it's easier to think about moving forward when you make yourself ignorant of the physical limitations of your existence.

On one hand, he wanted Denji to be cognisant that many lives were sitting in his hands: that of his co-workers, his team, and the general public sinec he worked in Public Safety. That's why he beats the shit out of Denji when they first meet. It's crude but Aki is roughly 20-22 years old since 3 years have passed before he can smoke (when the drinking/smoking age in JP is 20). He wants Denji to face the reality that he is no longer just living a life where his actions occur in a vacuum, he doesn't know much about Denji or his power at that point, but knowing that you affect others around you is important to his job. He wants Denji to face reality for what it is, beyond what he can get out of it, and he teaches Denji to stop looking at life as merely a sum of transactions i.e. you work a job and you get paid, and there is nothing else about it.

On the other, Aki stops acknowledging his mortality and human limits because he doesn't want to think about how he will die. He doesn't want to look in the mirror and think "damn I'm going to die before I'm 25 and if I die it will relatively permanent". He becomes completely oblivious to his own mortal limits because he knows that he cannot pursue his quest for revenge if he starts facing the truth of the matter, which is that he, like many other devil hunters, will probably die before achieving what they set out to do when they joined Public Safety. He sees the Future Devil laughs in his face for how awful his death is going to be, and he just, keeps moving forward in spite of that, it's not that he's willing to accept the price, it's that the cost of power is no longer something he will consciously think about.

It's near the end of his lifespan that he thinks, hmm, maybe I don't want to have Power and Denji be subject to such abhorrent work conditions and danger, and tries to get them pulled out that he gets trapped in Makima's web. He never had romantic feelings for her, and his memories, like the fiends, are manipulated. He gets forced into a contract (since Makima can do that) and becomes the Gun Fiend, forcing Denji to fight Aki and making Denji cry one of the three times he does in the entire manga.

It sucks that Aki Hayakawa gets smoked, and he dies a most painful and ironic death, but the Future Devil basically told us this was coming. The pony tail he has on his head is a little hammer of a gun, and he was getting death flagged from the moment Himeno had passed away. Does that make it any more palatable or acceptable for some people? Probably not.

But since the overarching theme of Chainsaw Man is ignorance (though only Quanxi and Denji say it out right), it makes complete sense that Makima's plan is the common thread that forces everyone to become the way that they do.

In my video for example, I write that Denji comes fairly close to self-realisation a lot of times in the story, but he explicitly states how overwhelmed he becomes when he tries to confront the facts of reality or think about processing and expressing complex emotions, that's the main reason he isn't like far more self-aware despite being very compassionate and empathetic toward other people in a general sense. The more he prods at that door, then yeah, the closer it gets to opening without Makima's help.

There are an immense amount of clues that Makima is mind-controlling people from the beginning, but it begins as coercion with Denji, but it's heavily suggested when each of the fiends explain that they have some missing memories or that their first memory concerns Makima.

Makima as a person, and as a concept, it's kind of not correct, in my eyes to measure her up as the sum of her actions, she's not really supposed to be treated as like, "oh she did like 129032019 crimes" like that part is very obvious to anyone reading it - the thing about her character is that she is completely unable to form relationships with others.

She only understands how to fall back on her power of control, and because of that she feels more isolated than ever.

The majority of her obsession with Pochita (Chainsaw Man) is because she thinks she understands him, and is infatuated with an idea of him, which forms the basis of her own ignorance.

She wants to achieve 2 things:

a utopia devoid of all the prevailing fears in existence (she gives examples which point to the other 3 horsemen of the apocalypse, 2 of which we know, which are Famine and War, Death is still yet to be seen).

To be consumed by Chainsaw Man as a fan of his

The reason she wants to create this utopia is because in her powerlessness to have equal relationships with others, she wants to change the world-order around and shift the rules around her own preferences (as evidenced by her comment about wanting to erase "bad movies" from existence).

She, unlike Denji, refuses to see herself as an entity that can change. She has a rigid belief that she understands what Pochita represents, what Chainsaw Man must be, and in the same stroke, she does not believe that she can be anything but what she is right now which is a person/devil that cannot connect to others on equal grounds.

Denji is super malleable, empathetic and adapts to pretty much any shitshow thrown his way, and is constantly changing and growing, he is the perfect foil to her absolutist way of perceiving the world.

Makima is in love with an idea of what Pochita is because it makes her feel less alone in the world, that's why she's like embracing him and disarmed at the end of Part 1 long enough for Denji to kill her.

She idealises Pochita as a chaotic force, who doesn't wear clothes, doesn't spit, and that Denji is completely incompatible with his gift/powers. But Pochita loves Denji unconditionally, those two are best friends and she can't fathom why someone she respects so deeply would be attached to someone she doesn't even consider a life worth living.

Denji, to Makima, is the image of his lowest point, a "murderer" that killed his father in self-defense, and he is only the boy behind the door. She cannot see him for what he is, what he could be, or even, what he looks like - she only sees him as this black and white concept of what she assigned him.

For Makima, the rigidity of her judgment is the basis of how she processes the world, and because of that, she doesn't look at the Hayakawa family and try to change and join them, she thinks, hm, in my new world I will have that too - completely oblivious to the fact that in an ideal utopia where nobody can have fear, reject her or do anything bad, they won't have the freedom of expression to truly like her for who she is, but instead, simply cannot deny her.

Makima doesn't understand anything about Pochita, or Denji, or even herself. She has a great power yes, but her perception of the world is built from atop a corner of isolation that makes her unable to truly perceive what people want from life. She can get anything she wants as a member of Public Safety because of the extent of people she has under her control and the numerous devil contracts she can utilise at no real cost ot herself.

She simply sees what she wants in others, and with Pochita it's just a person that will make her feel less alone, so she is like partly in love with him, but only the idea she has of him.

She can't find the strength to face her own dream and the humility to change herself, so she wants to change the world into one without fear, one that is predicated upon ignorance.

Surely, if nobody can be alone anymore, then her ideal world is perfect right?

Nobody can be the arbiter of like, deciding who's life is worthy of living, and for someone who has lived a life without social connections and equal relationships, it definitely should not be Makima because it is coloured in by her ideals and beliefs about experiences that she has never had.

Denji is her perfect foil because he dreams about frivolous things, he's still a good person in spite of his dreams to be popular with girls and have a lot of sex, because your dreams are not who you are - and being somewhat materialistic doesn't invalidate your existence as one that is meaningful + he's 17 so it's like extra stupid to get hung up on him not being a patron saint or something.

Denji losing his family was always part of Makima's plan, and the like, very obvious way in which Makima was fulfilling his wishes, of romance, attention from women, a happy family life, a stbale family job, it's all quite obvious on subsequent reads. I feel like you might come around on seeing these elements if you give it another read through with that in mind.

The idea of Chainsaw Man is that you can kind of push through life with ignorance, and sometimes you pick and choose when you are ignorant because that makes life easier (much like real life and not overloading yourself with extremely negative news) but for the most part if you stop trying to face life itself and become too rigid in your ways, you might lose everything that you had.

This isn't as concise or eloquent as my video, but everyone in CSM was destroyed by their ignorance even if it served them well while they were still kicking.

Aki couldn't face his human limits and look at himself objectively after Himeno kicked the bucket. Denji was inexperienced in a number of different ways so it was easy to manipulate him for Makima without directly controlling his mind or memories. Quanxi became a much more efficient assassin because she didn't try to actively consider and empathise with people ("ignorance is bliss, Chainsaw"). Kishibe stopped thinking about the lives of the people dying in his field and fixated on Quanxi so he wouldn't have to face the world where everyone around him dies or quits Public Safety; which is ironic because he couldn't watch her die in that arc.

I could go on, but yeah it's like, a lot deeper than it seems at first, and after re-reading the first time I realized I didn't understand shit about Chainsaw Man the first time - nto saying that's the case for you, but I definitely felt it was way more enjoyable on the 2nd read.

Makima does all this because she is infatuated with an idea of the Chainsaw Devil, and she was pretty much wrong about him on all fronts - that's why she couldn't fathom his love for Denji as his best friend.

It's pretty difficult to grapple with the fact that pretty much every character dies except Kobeni, Denji, Kishibe and the Hybrids (I don't think we've seen canon proof that any of them are 100% dead permanently given how hard it is to kill Denji). But they aren't just trauma fodder, they're a vehicle for Fujimoto's ideas of ignorance and while the manga is often like darkly funny, he doesn't just axe people for a chuckle.

Pochita is just the one she thinks is as "alone" as her that could understand her isolation, that's kind of why she is obsessed with the idea of him. Becuase he's an unfathomable concept, that is also alone.

I'm really not sure why anyone's surprised Im/odna wasn't The BeauJes Apology(TM) people were hoping for. Anything remotely resembling an apology would be an admission of the fuck-up and the cast has proven they're incapable of doing that. And Marisha is incapable of acting like an adult about queer characters.

Even if it does take a turn for the romantic, to harken back to another anon you got, there's no reason to trust them with it. Even a couple years after the fact, the BeauJes fiasco has only proven that they're all-too happy to throw a character-dynamic away the moment it's inconvenient to some unrelated 3rd party (whether they're at the table or not), no matter how good or fun it is.

and really, ships like im/odna or beaujes would do just fine in any fandom where the creators don't show such disdain for people who don't worship the canon, and said disdain gets carried into the fandom. Where you have an entire subset who have no qualms about going into the tags of a ship they don't like just to bully people. I've moved onto other fandoms that basic bit of fandom-etiquette is so much less common in so many other communities. They say "don't bully people" and their sycophants take it as "don't bully us :)))" (something something don't forget to love each other repeatedly gets turned into a blunt weapon to shut down criticism) cuz they've always actively mocked anyone who criticizes them, or doesn't uncritically eat up whatever story-beat they add, no matter how lazy it is. No wonder fanfic writers are made into a joke whenever they're mentioned: fanfic can and sometimes does challenge the canon of a given story.

“Marisha is incapable of acting like an adult about queer characters.” This very succinctly sums it up.

Though I will say, early on (from the confession and forward, pre-hiatus), she did a good job. There were tons of fans that identified with the way she was playing Beau in that moment; how scary it is to admit you have feelings for a (presumed straight) friend, having to keep that to yourself, the little bit of yearning mixed with anguish that comes with it, and how you wanna distance yourself but then if you do, your friend is gonna be really sad. (Like in ep88)

I genuinely think that she did actually play those aspects of it very well.

And I guess that’s also part of the disappointment over why Beaujester fell away and we got stuck with BY. Around the time of the confession, Beau had been growing as a person. She was less juvenile, more articulate, and in a sense, more genuine than she used to be. Of course she still had her goofy moments but it felt like she was maturing. Then post-hiatus reared it ugly head and she was back to acting like a horny teenager. It was like everybody reverted back to their original selves, devoid of growth. The shallowness was back, the one-liners were back, the “That’s hot.” “You’re so hot.” “Let’s make-out.” shit was back. That was all she had to contribute. It was ridiculous, bland, and try-hard.

Where the fuck did all the maturity go?

Pre-hiatus Beau and post-hiatus Beau really do feel like two different people.

I like that you said ‘worship the canon’. And, you’re right. I also think ships like Beaujester and Im/odna would be allowed to thrive in a fandom that didn’t worship canon. Problem is, I personally don’t know of any fandom that didn’t/doesn’t worship canon. Maybe Ag/ent Carter would be the only exception. But I think that’s only because it didn’t exist long enough for the fandom to devolve into a toxic space. The show was cancelled a few episodes into its second season lol

Other than that, every other fandom experience I’ve had (both on here and on twitter) has been pretty fucking horrendous. And it is mostly because of canon worship and just general shipper entitlement. (Mainly m/f shipper entitlement.)

I won’t go into that here though. I’ve already started writing up something about this and it’s gonna be very long. It needs to be its own post.
