Hello :) I’m not used to asking questions on here but I’m just curious and I coupdn’t stop myself. How do you think they can turn this whole season the way so it has nothing to do with Buddie. Because since the first episode of season 7 they’ve been writing their lines with kind of a deeper meaning, in a way that can be understood like a foreshadowing in them going canon (like the whole jealousy plot where Buck is still so obviously confused to what/who he wanted, Tommy’s „MY attention?”, the coming out scene when Buck says he’s relieved and he looks anything but). I have my clown shoes on and I don’t see how they can end this season without giving us a hint at Buddie (my guess is Buck will have some kind of feelings realisation about Eddie) but knowing what they did to couch theory and other times where they crushed shippers hopes showing only their friendship and nothing more I’m trying to brace myself for another dissapointment. Like, we are all just so sure about Buddie, but what if the writers throw another curveball at us? And what could that curveball possibly be? Anyways, hope you have a nice day! 😊
Hello! Thank you for taking the time to send me a question! I’m always happy to answer 🥰
Here’s the thing, the last two seasons were all weird bc we had another show runner who point blank made it clear she wasn’t on board with Buddie being romantic in any way. She legit called that will reveal scene platonic and said it’s normal for best friends bc her mother and her female best friend did the same thing. She was allergic to queer people. We have the return of show runner who was the original show runner. He was always pro Buddie even if he never point blank said so. This man killed off Shannon bc he knew the fans were angry with her for leaving her child. He liked a tweet that said Shannon was Eddie’s beard. He’s been proactively and consistently sharing Buddie content before the season even started. Also talking about how much he enjoys Buck and Eddie’a dynamic and is going to try to hit that in every episode. The first episode was very much a reintroduction and what did they do? They showed Buck, Eddie, and Christopher as a whole ass family unit. They made it clear to everyone tuning in that those three are a family together.
Now I think the reason Eddie is soooo heavily intertwined with Buck’s scenes is bc it’s intentional. I also am under the impression, as I’ve said many times recently, that Tim not only spoke to Oliver earlier in the season about his plans, but also Ryan. There’s a deliberate reason as to why Oliver and Ryan are actively promoting this season together. I will die on this hill that Ryan is fully aware. And we had that confirmed when Lou pretty much said it was originally supposed to be Tommy and Eddie but things didn’t work out. So what that actually tells me is that Tim has plans to make BOTH Buck and Eddie queer. And he’s going with Buck first but will eventually get to Eddie. They already planted massive seeds in 7.05 by bringing up religious guilt and all that talk about Eddie’s Catholicism. It’s happening and that is a far better way to tell Eddie’s story than him being kissed by a man randomly. So I just, idk even with this new interest in Buck and Tommy, I truly don’t think it’s something that will divert the writers and show runner from their original plans, I should hope not. They can’t dismiss 6 years of development for a new love interest especially when said love interest is a literal copy of Eddie. So I don’t think they’ll switch gears and I think we’re on the same page as to what is coming up for them. Literally the fact that they made Buck bi confirms to me that Buddie is inevitable.

disney+ adding star vs the forces of evil and gravity falls to their pride collection feels like such a slap in the face because if how much they were censored and told they couldn't add lgbtq+ characters

"no hints were dropped" ok not to be that person but here are the hints that were dropped regarding Colin and Trent being gay:
1. Colin mentioning Grindr in a joke
2. Trent touching the arm of a man in the background
Here is one of the hints that Keeley was bi (even though I do believe she's been canonically bi since season 1, but not everyone sees it this way)
1. Her desktop background was in the colors of the bisexual flag
Here were some of the hints that Ted was bi:
1. Bisexual flag colored triangles above his head in the hallucination sequence
2. Inverted pink triangle next to him in that same sequence (and you can't tell me the creators didn't know, when the Homomonument is based on that symbol)
3. Countless (countless!!!) comments about men's physiques ("huge muscular thighs all caked in mud", whistling at a picture of Pep, "look at that head of hair", "he's strong", "he looks like a Rodin sculpture in cleats", etc.)
4. About a man (Higgins) and a woman (Rebecca), he had to say: "that's a crowd I don't mind being smack-dab in the middle of"
5. Him checking Trent out in the pub in 2x07 (his eyes are up there, Ted!)
6. "It could go either way", "I contain multitudes" and other comments in this vein
7. Bi lighting as he entered the Yankee Doodle Burger Barn
8. Giving similar looks to the female waitress and the male waiters in that restaurant (including a waiter in a cowboy costume that looked like he belonged in a gay club, who tipped his hat at Ted when greeting him)
9. "That's cause you were put into a box", "That box ceases to exist today", the box in the hallucination sequence breaking into triangles (as in the bi triangles and the inverted pink triangke), "we've been playing too rigid", "our guys need freedom", "fast, fluid, free, with full support", the "box that one needs to break out of" being a prominent motif in season 3
10. Wishing Beard called him pet names ("Honey, is that an ingredient or something you just called me?")
11. His crush on Pep
12. The connection between Ted and Colin: "my whole life is two lives, really", both wearing orange in Sunflowers, "I just want to kiss my fella" (Colin doesn't say "fella" , but Ted says it all the time), Ted just needs to get inspired and Colin's play is "inspirational" after he comes out, as per the commentators
And so much other stuff that, had Ted not self-identified as straight (*cough* put himself into a box *cough cough*) , you could make the case that he was canonically bi.
Here are some of hints that there was a romantic connection between Ted and Trent:
1. They hit a lot of romantic beats, and not in the jokey self-aware way in which Roy and Ted hit them in "Rainbow", but in an organic and sincere way
2. They both checked each other out: Trent checked Ted out when Ted was changing in front of him, Ted checked Trent out when Trent came up to him in a pub and hit him with a pick-up line while his date that looked a lot like Ted waited for him outside
3. Did I mention that Trent was on a date with a moustachioed man who dressed in a similar style to Ted? Let's mention it again
4. In that very bar, during a 50 second long conversation, Trent managed to say the word "love" three times. I searched the word "love" in the transcripts of the episodes. There's no other instance in which its frequency is this high
5. "Love our chats" incomplete rule of threes
6. "Sport, it's quite the metaphor" (implied: a metaphor for love; see also "love's a beautiful game" from the song Ed Sheeran wrote for Ted Lasso), "Also makes for a heck of a nickname", "Good night, Ted", "Good night, sport"
7. The soft, romantic, melancholic song playing in the background of this scene, while Ted and Trent are the last ones left in the office, with lyrics such as "When your words begin to crumble like the sidewalks all around this crummy neighborhood / From the chalky cliffs of Dover / I'd come over, I'd start over if I could"
8. Trent wearing sunflower colors in the episode "Sunflowers" and in the finale; sunflowers symbolize Ted's home (it's not subtle). He's the only character dressed like that. I'm still looking for any other explanation other than "Trent is Ted's home"
9. Their constant flirting and the way they look at each other with incredible fondness
10. The entire episode "The Strings That Bind Us". It's structured around Ted and Trent's relationship, and the way Trent changed because of Ted (in season 2, Ted defined a soulmate as someone who changes your life forever). The red string metaphor. Ted points out that soulmates are connected by a string tied to their little fingers. Ted and Trent both extend their little fingers out in similar shots. They are connected by a huge block of red in their last scene of the episode. Ted makes several comments about other men that apply to Trent ("Look at that head of hair", "Frames his face nicely", "My favorite one, he was clean shaven"). Many more details that lead back to Ted and Trent: Nate tells the restaurant owner to tell Jade he said "Hello". Immediately after, Ted and Trent say "Hello" to each other. The map that Nate's father used to ask out his mom has the number 1.3 written on it and an illustration of two people at a table in a restaurant. Ted and Trent went to a restaurant together in season 1, episode 3. The last scene of the episode mimics a "Race for Love" scene from a romcom, with Trent chasing after Ted. Trent also does not say a word to anyone other than Ted in the entire episode. He is completely focused on Ted
11. "Trent, what do you love? Is it writing?" and Trent ends up writing a book about Ted and naming the manuscript after Ted and he only cares about Ted's opinion on it (he leaves the room when Beard starts reading, but stays in the office after hours just to watch Ted read. "I just wanted you to like it.")
11. Trent's crush on Ted, confirmed by Jimmy Lance (and also obvious in the show, if you ask me)
Now, why would I believe that none of these hints were intentional? Maybe some could be explained away, but all of them? The hints we got for Colin, Trent and Keeley were so much smaller than this, and those turned out to be intentional.
anon i wish i could offer you the response you deserve, but i cannot stop rereading this masterpiece & focusing on the portions of evidence you provided that i didn't even pick up on until you laid them out. holy shit

Tedependent (and bi Ted) in season 3 episode 7
We have Ted whistling and being impressed by a man's hair “Look at that head of hair”. Ted and Trent have both talked about Trent's hair before "Because of the hair and the whole vibe?" and Ted's: "You know, they got a big old Ziploc bag full of your hair ties down at the lost and found. You should pop on down, if you still want 'em." As far as I can remember they are the only ones who has ever talked about Trent's hair in the show (correct me if I'm wrong). To compare it to another scene, we have a scene between Roy and Keeley, which is meant to be seen romantically between them where they say this: "Yeah. Woman with the hair." "Keeley Jones, The Independent Woman Magazine." A scene set in the pressroom where most of Ted and Trent's interactions, with a few exceptions, take place during season 1 and 2. She also uses The Independent as a joke about her being independent while still looking to be in a relationship. Which is similar to Trent always introducing himself in the pressroom with "Trent Crimm, The Independent." And Ted and Trent's last scene of season 2: "You know what this makes you now, though, right?" "Trent Crimm. Independent." Hair is also talked about with other couples we're supposed to look at romantically. Roy and Keeley, Higgins and his wife, Sam and Rebecca.
More under the cut:
When Beard is talking about Jane dropping hints and Ted thinks he’s talking about marriage but Beard is talking about pegging and Ted doesn’t seemed shocked or outraged or anything he just “Oh. Well, still.” Ted have been pegged confirmed??? (And then he asks what magazines contains the topic of pegging, just for normal reasons, no big deal). And while pegging can be enjoyed by people of all sexualities, I find it interesting that they brought that up and the "straight man in middle America" isn't at all fazed by that. Not even a double take, just "yup, that's a big commitment", with all the other hints that Ted is not straight... yeah...
“Hey, Trent” “Hello Ted” Now this isn't really evidence, because even non queer people say hello to each other. But I wanted to include it because it's just Ted that acknowledges that Trent is standing there. Beard and Roy doesn't say anything, nor does Trent say anything to them. It's an interesting moment to include, if they hadn't said anything no one would have really noticed. Because you'd just assume that they'd seen each other earlier that day so there is no need to say hello again. But they did include it. It's about Trent being present and Ted noticing it. It's like the scene in the last episode of season 2 when Trent is absent from the pressroom. Ted notices and he stops speaking for a moment while looking worried/confused. Only for him to be happy to see him, even admitting that he was worried he'd been injured. Ted's excitement when he sees Trent in Rebecca's office in season 3 episode 2. We see them talking after the match against West Ham (they could have had him talking to anyone, but he was talking to Trent). It's Trent being the one to notice and the first to acknowledge that something is wrong when Ted gets the text about Henry being in a bullying incident. It's the fact that these two seem to be drawn to each other, seeking each other out and noticing each other.
Ted not knowing what step number four is yet and Trent being obsessed with finding out what number four is. We even get to see his notes about it, something we haven’t seen before. And with Trent's newfound confidence since his talk with Colin, he's being more comfortable around Ted and Ted rewards him with smiling and even a touch to the shoulder (that Trent even reacts to by looking at his shoulder afterwards). Just look at the way he runs after Ted and just gushes over Ted's work as a coach. (Would he have done that pre-Amsterdam, I doubt it.)
Ted talking about people being put in boxes since an early age. (Children are always assumed to be straight and are often told to stay in that box for the rest of their lives). In Sunflowers Colin talks about not wanting to be a spokesperson, he just wants to live his life, to have his two lives combined. But if he were to come out he'd be a spokesperson whether he wants to or not. Because he'd be put in a box, his box would be "gay footballer". What boxes are Ted put into? American? White? Straight? Which one of those boxes are something he could have actually have been forced into? Straight. He may or may not have already realised that it's not a box he fits into. But to have him talk about being put into boxes when we know that he's being looked at as straight by everyone around him, including the TV audience...
Trent asking Ted if he thinks that it's a good idea to use a tactic the boys don't understand and while doing so he's holding his glasses with his little finger out (while we can see the two threads of red on Ted's jacket). Later Ted explains to the team: "In Japanese culture, they have a myth where they believe that all soulmates are connected by an invisible red string. And those strings are attached to each of their little fingers."
"Well, Trent, the way I see it, it's kind of like taking a hike with Robert Frost. It could go either way." That's a very bi thing to say, Ted. Also this poem by Robert Frost: The Road Not Taken: Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.
Two roads, coming back to the other one another day, not knowing if you'll come back. Taken a road less traveled and that made all the difference. Pretty queer if you ask me. Especially considering bi people are constantly told to pick one, pick one side and stay there, you're either gay or straight, you can't walk both roads.
Ted feeling the need to express his individuality by growing facial hair. He didn’t go for the beard (because he didn’t want to hide his sexuality aka use a beard because Beard already had that) so he went with a goatee. And then Beard pointed out that he shouldn’t have a goatee right before he was about to walk down the isle (get married to a woman) and instead he went with a moustache. When we think of bisexuality and moustaches, who do we think of? Who do we know that Ted saw perform at Wembley in 1985? "I remember being a little kid, sitting in front of the television and watching Queen perform right over there during Live Aid." Who in Queen famously had a moustache? Freddie Mercury. Freddie Mercury who wrote "Love of my Life" for Mary Austin, his then girlfriend. Freddie who, as we all know later got together with Jim Hutton and they were together until he passed away. Ted has said that he will always love Michelle, because they are still family. He still loves her, but they are no longer together.
Trent running after Ted to excitedly tell him that it's going to work. Telling him how he's noticed what Ted has been doing for three seasons (again, it's about being seen). How he's created a space that is filled with trust and support, something he himself has been the recipient of. Ted has both trusted him (allowing Trent to write a book about the team, having him follow them around even after Trent wrote that article) and supported him (when Rebecca, Higgins and Keeley wanted him to say no to Trent and he said yes anyway, him telling Roy to knock it off with his treatment of Trent, Ted inviting him in to share his ideas).
“Yeah, but he’s our dork.” Ted says smiling fondly. It's about the fondness. Roy is the one who refers to Trent as a dork first, but Ted is the one who turns it into something that is only positive. He's smiling and to him, having Trent be their dork is something that makes him happy. The other two are more like "yeah, I guess he's cool" *shrugs*.
Does this mean that Ted and Trent will get together? No. But I do find it interesting to find all of these small details that connects the two of them. It's the way Trent went from "Is this a fucking joke?" to excitedly telling Ted that "It's going to work!". Ted changed Trent's life, and in a way I believe that Trent changed his. Trent doesn't have a problem asking the hard questions, but he also sees Ted. He can see that Ted is a mess (when it comes to coaching and possibly also on a personal level) and yet he believes in him. He challenges him on his tactics and his way of doing things, but he believes him and the thought of Ted succeeding makes him excited enough to run after him to tell him that he's done something with the team that is going to work. Something he could have told him calmly and in private, but he couldn't wait. He had to tell Ted right at that moment. It's the running through the airport at the end of the movie.
And as for Ted being bi or not. Well, I know that he's referred to himself as both straight and an ally. But as someone who once thought they were both straight and an ally before they realised that they were in fact bi, because they fell in love with a girl... he might not feel ready to deal with that, or like me he knew about his attraction to women in his case, men in mine and so we must be straight, and then just assumed that all straight people think that people of the same sex/gender are attractive.

I'm really going to miss SWM despite the sad ending. The actors really did a great job with what they had and could do. I knew the accident was going to hurt me, and that it would be a OE, but I did not expect it to be more like a BE. More about that later. At least we got a whole episode of happy boys before all the shit hit the fan.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This scene really touched me. Su Yu pushes Wu Bi to achieve his dreams and is there to support him all the way. We also get another hint of what Wu Bi's time capsule wish is. My guess is that he wished for he, Su Yu and Doudou to always be together. Normally it's Wu Bi who is always saying he doesn't want to be separated from Su Yu, but this time, it's Su Yu telling Wu Bi not to leave him, pulling on Wu Bi's heartstrings. 🥹
Tumblr media
Why does Wu Bi have a picture of his and Su Yu's epic bike ride framed? Did his mother draw that? Did he get the idea from her? Wu Bi, I have so many questions...
Tumblr media
Su Yu wrote a wish card for Wu Bi too. 🥹 I am not ok. 😭
Tumblr media
One last shout out to the shipper girl. She knows. 🤭 I'm glad they didn't write her as a crazy person, inserting herself into Wu Bi and Su Yu's relationship and doing a bunch of weird stuff to get them together.
Tumblr media
Arghhhh the foreshadowing! When Su Yu said that, my heart filled with dread even though I already knew what was coming. No. They're going to ride their bike together forever ok. 😭
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wu Bi is so completely smitten with Su Yu. It's all heart eyes, all the time. They are so cute. Was this the reward Su Yu was talking about? I thought it would be something 🔞, but taking Wu Bi on a date might motivate him even more. I mean what kind of equestrian center has prince charming equestrian outfits? 🤭 I think they look great, but this totally looks like a date (Doudou is just there to make it look less gay).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wait a minute... that's not what the director demonstrated! I wanted to see that peck on the lips! Please tell me they shot two versions and we'll see the uncut version later. 🙏
Tumblr media
Psycho alert! 🚨 Mo Yi was hella creepy here. I was a bit scared he would actually hurt Su Yu. You can feel all the resentment he has for Su Yu. First his ex-gf wanted to be with Su Yu rather than him. Second, Wu Bi has chosen Su Yu over him and is acting like a little bitch towards him. Not defending him, but I honestly don't think Mo Yi would have felt such hatred and resentment if Wu Bi hadn't started being really rude and bratty towards him after falling in love with Su Yu.
Tumblr media
The ultimate sacrifice. 😭 Wu Bi knew there was no way to stop the car safely so he chose to protect Su Yu by crashing the car on the driver's side. Even though I knew the accident was going to happen, it still hurt so much. Wu Bi will always protect Su Yu no matter what. I read some comments scolding Su Yu for sleeping even though he knew something was wrong with the car. My interpretation is that Su Yu wasn't sleeping, he was worried too, but he trusted Wu Bi completely, and Wu Bi told him to rest because he can handle it, so he did. The level of trust and confidence you need to have in your partner for that is just...
Tumblr media
I didn't notice this the first time watching because I was too busy wailing, but Wu Bi hugged Su Yu to protect him. FUCK. 😭😭😭😭 For all the unreasonable jealousy and temper tantrums, Wu Bi really is the best boy.
Tumblr media
This is so painful, I can't screencap bloody Wu Bi anymore. It killed me that Wu Bi woke up for a second to stare into Su Yu's eyes when Doudou called to complete their OT3, only to fall into a comma again.
Tumblr media
Argh this ending! Is Wu Bi alive or dead? I didn't notice that the doctor nods a little when speaking to Su Yu the first time around. Doctors usually only nod when the operation was successful, so I guess Wu Bi is alive but what about the empty house? Only Wu Bi's stuff is still there, meaning that everyone left him? How is this not a BE? 😭
Of course this makes sense as a set up for a season 2 but I feel like they still could have given us a conclusion. Something like Wu Bi lives, but Su Yu left because he knew Mo Yi was crazy and he wanted to protect Wu Bi. Then the new season would be about how the boys find their way back to each other. It wasn't necessary to leave viewers hanging and heartbroken. 😢 And with 24 episodes of 30+ minutes runtime, I felt the team had enough time to tell a complete story. It shouldn't matter that book 1 of the novel ended like the series because the drama should stand on its own outside of the novel. Besides, wouldn't it have been safer just to film the whole thing at once to avoid the risk of not being allowed to film part 2?
There's a lot of doubt that S2 will actually happen, but someone asked Mo Yi's actor if there will be a 2nd season and he said that there should be. I'm not going to get my hopes up too much before there is official news that everyone is shooting again to spare myself any disappointment, but of course I am hoping for a second season. In the meantime, I hope cjd will release the uncut version of the series that she teased about before. I really do love this series so much even though I was disappointed with the ending. I'll have to treat SWM like MODC and skip the end. SWM only has 22 episodes. Yup. 🤡

Masterlist
Pairing: Sam Kiszka x Original Female Character
Synopsis: The year was 1976, the season was summer. The days were hot and the nights were hotter. Music was the best it had ever been, especially rock music. Sam Kiszka has been riding the high of being in one of the top bands on the scene, but when his bands tour is accompanied by another up-and-coming band, with a lead singer that gets on his very last nerve, will everything come crashing down or will they end up making music that changes the world?
Warnings: Angst, drinking, smoking, minor assault (arm being grabbed roughly at a bar!! nothing more!) mentions of blood, violence 18+ only, Minors DNI
A/N: Thanks to everyone and their patience with this update!! As we're heading into the last two or three chapters, we may go bi-weekly, just so I can make sure I give you all the best I can (and also stretch out saying goodbye to Harlow and Sam)! Love you all so much!!
WC: 2943
🎶 🎶 🎶
Harlow was lucky Jake Kiszka thrived on small amounts of sleep. She kept him up all night, working through the songs that were flowing through her. Cigarettes burned themselves down between her fingers as she paced their home, voicing out lyrics and melodies, harmonies. She would then drop the butt in the ashtray on their coffee table, leaning in to Josh for him to place another between her lips, lighting it for her before she moved away, taking one, single drag and ignoring it the rest of the time she paced.
In her other hand, when there wasn’t a pen, was a whiskey laden highball, courtesy of Jake’s bar, which she helped herself to multiple times. Messy sips and slurps between bars of the songs they were writing. More than once, Josh noticed Harlow wiping a trickle of her drink from her chin as she started to sing before she fully swallowed. Her mind was frantic, more than he had seen her before in her writing process. She was starting to slur her words and trip over the rug.
“Harlow,” Josh rested a hand on her arm, pausing her pacing. “I think you need to get some rest.” Tracing his hand down her elbow, he reached her wrist, feeling her pulse under his fingers, noting it was fast. “Come sit for a few minutes, you’ve been non-stop for hours.”
“I’m fine,” Harlow tried to pull away from him, but Josh kept his hand on her wrist, gazing up at her with a concerned, stern look. Jake stopped his strumming on the guitar in his lap. He’d given up hours ago on following Harlow’s stream of consciousness, merely plucking out melodies softly as she went on. “Josh-“
“Please.” she couldn’t refuse his plea, and sat on the couch, her body finally leaving it’s flight mode. She sank into the cushions, resting her head back. Josh gently took the drink from her hand, setting it away from her on the coffee table. “You should go up to bed.”
“I don’t know that I can fall asleep.” Harlow spoke softly, though her words betrayed how exhausted she was.
“You will,” Josh reached out, brushing her bangs from her eyes. “I think it’s best if you stay here today.” Harlow nodded as Josh continued. “You both need more time away from each other.”
“I never wanna see Sam again.” Harlow’s voice was hard now, but wobbly, as if she was holding back a sob in her throat.
“I’m afraid that’s near-impossible.” Jake gave her sad smile. “At least for a few more weeks. If it makes you feel any better, I plan on kicking his ass so hard he won’t have a face for you to look at.”
“Now that I’d love to see.” Harlow shared a smirk with the younger twin.
“Come on,” Josh stood up, holding his hand out to Harlow. She took it, letting him pull her up from her sunken position on the couch. “Let’s get you tucked in.” Though there were hints of the sun beginning to rise, the pitch black night turning to a blue-gray hue out the windows. Josh brought her back to his bedroom, shutting the curtains to block out as much pale light as he could while Harlow crawled back between his sheets.
“Josh?” the young man hummed, picking up some papers she had written on before she had moved downstairs. “Thank you for everything.” setting the papers down on the nightstand, Josh smiled down at Harlow.
“Don’t sweat it, kid.” he ruffled her hair with a smirk, watching her roll away from him with a laugh and hunker down into bed, the liquor in her blood helping lull her off into a somewhat restful sleep. Josh continued to pick up his bedroom a bit, before going back downstairs and see Jake leaning against the kitchen counter, percolator dutifully making coffee next to him.
“Say what you want about Sam,” Jake murmured, flipping over one of the sheets of paper that littered their house now. “but he inspires one hell of a song.” Josh stood next to him, leaning over to see what was scrawled onto the paper. This was one Harlow hadn’t sang out loud, that he could tell, the words were unfamiliar, no melody playing in his head as he read them. “She’s mad as hell, man.”
“She has every right to be.” Josh took the paper from Jake’s hand, setting it on the counter. “Let’s just hope he’s ready to face her wrath.”
“You think it’s going to be bad?” Jake quirked an eyebrow.
“I don’t think Sam is ever going to live this down.” Josh answered, nodding solemnly.
🎶 🎶 🎶
Harlow had slept through most of the day, waking up in the late afternoon, and calling a cab to take her back to her hotel. Josh and Jake had gathered up her writings, and she carried them carefully with her. When she was back in her own room, she took the time to shower, letting the past twenty-four hours wash away from her skin, her hair, everything but her mind. She had woken, set on satisfaction, and knew what she had to do.
“Billy, it’s Harlow.” she spoke into the phone, sat on her bed, wrapped in a towel. Her hair was still dripping as she twirled the phone cord around her finger. “How fast can you and the guys get to Nashville?”
“Why?” Billy answered, sounding curious. “We’re not supposed to meet up until next week when we resume tour.”
“Inspiration struck, and I need you here.” was all the explanation Harlow gave. Billy waited for more, the there was nothing else for her to say.
“Okay, yeah. Give me a day to get everyone together.” Billy sighed into the phone, thinking about how much work it was going to be to wrangle up the rest of the band early. “Where are we meeting?” Harlow gave him the address to her hotel, saying goodbye shortly after. Sauntering back to the bathroom, she opened her makeup caddy, preparing for the night ahead.
🎶 🎶 🎶
The bar was loud and crowded, just like Harlow was hoping. She sat at the sticky bar, drinking her second whiskey sour of the night. Every so often, she caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror behind the bar, smiling at the light, iridescent blue shimmer adorning her eyelids. Small lines of black liner flicking out into small points at the outer corners of her eyes gave her a sultry expression.
Her light brown hair was darker in the dim lighting of the bar, adding to the look. She was considering going to a salon in the morning and darkening her locks permanently when an arm slung over her shoulders, catching her off guard.
“What’s a pretty thing like you doing at a shithole like this?” glancing up, Harlow was met with bright green eyes and a charming smirk.
“Don’t you know?” she sent back a smirk of her own. “Shitholes serve the best whiskey.” She took her drink and knocked it back, setting the empty glass back on the bar.
“A whiskey woman, huh?” the man leaned against the bar, an impressed smirk on his face. Harlow resisted rolling her eyes. “I like that.”
“Yeah? Why’s that?” Harlow turned slightly on her stool, giving the man a playful yet quizzical look.
“Means they don’t mind a little pain with their pleasure.” Harlow almost laughed out loud, but kept her composure, hoping her biting her tongue came across as trying not to smile.
“How about you buy me another drink and we can talk about that a little more?”
“Can I get your name?”
“Harlow.” was all she offered, waiting for him to respond.
“Richard.”
Time spent flirting with a stranger was time well spent in Harlow’s book. Richard was good-looking enough, a few times she wondered if she should bother taking him back to her hotel room. He was funny enough to make her genuinely laugh a few times, and she didn’t hate the way his hand would rest on her knee.
It wasn’t until her name was called that she tore her eyes away from him, spotting Josh and Jake across the bar. Harlow smiled at them, giving them a nod that she saw them before starting to turn towards Richard again. As her eyes scanned the bar, her smile fell. She had spotted Danny while her smile was still in place, but quickly her eyes found Sam next to him. They were talking and looking around, presumably for Jake and Josh who were already starting to sit at a table.
As the crowd parted around Sam and Danny, letting them through, Harlow’s eyes spotted movement behind Sam. She caught a glimpse of Cindy, almost straight out of a movie as she shook her hair from her face, smiling happily as she followed Sam.
“Wait, that’s-“ Richard looked from Jake and Josh to Harlow. “You know Greta Van Fleet?”
“It would seem that way.” Harlow’s interest was long gone now. All she wanted to do was finish her drink and leave, before Sam could spot her too. It was only a matter of time before Josh invited her to the table.
“Hey, can you like, get me into a show?” Harlow looked up to Richard, who looked at her expectantly. “I think they have a show coming up in a few weeks, right?”
“Yup,” Harlow took a long sip of her drink, hoping the one word answer would give him the hint. He didn’t, instead he leaned in, lowering his voice with a smirk on his face.
“I’ve never slept with a groupie before.” Harlow froze, knowing that when he said ‘groupie’ he absolutely meant her.
“And you never will.” she said, taking the rest of her drink and splashing it into his face. “Thanks for the drinks, Dick. For the record, I’m not a groupie, I’m their fucking opening act.”
“You frigid bitch!” Richard grabbed Harlow’s upper arm, squeezing tightly, causing her stumble off her barstool as he tried to pull her up to his eye level. The way he glowered at her made her face burn with embarrassment, like when your mother would scold you in front of your friends.
“Everything okay here?” Sam’s voice was hard, his mouth pressed into a stern line. He had been watching Harlow interacting with the young man since he stepped foot in the bar and spotted her. When the man leaned in, Sam made the excuse of checking on the table’s drink order to get closer, maybe hear what they were saying.
“We’re fine.” Richard turned back to Harlow. “You can have your slut back.” he let go of Harlow, tossing her back from him as if she burned him. Catching herself on the stool, she saw everything in slow motion.
“The fuck did you just call her?” before anyone could stop it, Sam had reared his arm back, thrusting his fist into Richard’s face. Blood began pouring from Richard’s face, pooling in his palm as he grasped his nose, shouting in pain. “Don’t you ever let me hear you talk about her that way, do you understand me?”
“You’re fucking crazy.” Richard backed away, glaring at Harlow and Sam before finally turning and retreating towards the front door of the bar. Straightening herself, Harlow cleared her throat, avoiding eyes as the bar went back to their own business.
“Are you okay?” Sam was next to her now, eyes raking over her body.
“I’m fine.” she replied shortly. “I could’ve handled it.”
“I know,” Sam sighed. “Harlow-“
“Hey, what the hell happened?!” Josh was wide-eyed, looking at Harlow. His eyes fell to her bicep, where an angry red handprint was fading.
“A guy just got a little handsy, that’s all.” Harlow gave Josh a smile, one he saw right through. “I’m fine, Josh. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go home.”
“No, hey, come have a drink with us.” Josh pleaded. “That guy could be outside waiting,  come sit with us for a little bit.” Harlow fought a glance towards Sam. As much as she wished, she couldn’t stay petty forever.
“Fine. One drink.”
Harlow was true to her word. One drink. Jake, Josh and Danny, however, had plenty, and were making it known. Jake, having recently learned Harlow’s government name, was overjoyed to find ‘Brandy’ by The Looking Glass on the bars jukebox. He held Harlow’s hand to his chest, a drunken, sloppy grin on his face as he sang to her, Danny’s arm wrapped around his shoulder and singing one of the most off-key harmonies she’d ever heard.
“The sailors say Brandy-that’s YOU!- you’re a fine girl!” Jake pointed to Harlow as he sang. “What a good wife you would be! Yeah your eyes could steal a sailor from the sea!” Danny dutifully coming in with the bridge harmonies. Once the song was over, Jake left, mumbling about it not being long enough and getting change from the bartender. Harlow was left alone at the table for a few moments of peace.
Or so she thought.
“They really like you.” Harlow turned in her seat, seeing Cindy now sitting next to her where Josh had been.
“You think?” Harlow laughed a bit, glancing back at Jake who was in a heated argument about replaying the song with the bartender, pointing back to her.
“I’ve known these boys since grade school.” Cindy smiled softly, her green eyes shimmering in the light. Harlow took in her face as Cindy explained their childhoods. Her face was bare, her summer tan being the only makeup she wore. Of course, she was naturally beautiful. She didn’t need the shimmers and shadows and lipsticks. Harlow felt suddenly overdone, no longer sultry, but instead like a clown, caked with makeup. “They’ve always been careful about who they let in. Not because they’re mean or a clique, but…when these boys care for someone, love someone? They love hard.”
“I can see that.” Harlow nodded, slowly turning her glass on it’s napkin, watching the melting ice dance inside.
“I thought for a minute when we met you were with Josh.” Cindy smiled sheepishly.
“No, no.” Harlow shook her head. “We have a connection, but it’s…it’s more of platonic soulmates, I think.” Cindy nodded, tucking her silky hair behind her ear. “They’ve all been wonderful to us, me and my band.”
“That’s good. When they see talent, they support it.” Cindy nodded. A small silence fell between the two women before Cindy began idol chit-chat again. Harlow was waiting, waiting for the shoe to drop, for Cindy to ask if she was sleeping with her fiancé. But if she knew what was going on, Cindy made no mention. No hint that she knew what Sam and Harlow had been up to over the past few months. And Harlow found her so sweet and kind, she wouldn’t be the one to tell her.
Harlow bit the tip of her tongue as the question bubbled up her throat during a small lull, the liquor in her system having began to wane, but she would blame it nonetheless.
“How long have you and Sam been engaged?” Cindy’s smile burst open, her bright, pearly teeth nearly blinding Harlow in the dim bar.
“Technically since our senior year.” she explained, looking dreamily across the bar, where Sam was in a conversation with someone, laughing at a joke. Harlow’s heart panged sharply in her chest. She wanted nothing more in that moment than to go up and wrap her arms around his waist, sidling into his side and giggle with him at the joke, enjoying his warmth. But as she glanced to Cindy, she saw the same expression, full of love and admiration. Another crack in Harlow’s heart.
“Wow, that’s a long time to be engaged.”
“Oh yeah, well we were going to get married that July.” Cindy rolled her eyes good-naturedly. “But then the band took off, so we postponed it. And then one tour after another as they built up their success. There just hasn’t been time.”
“I get that.”
“How about you, anyone special?” Harlow snorted. What an ironic question for her to ask.
“Did you see what happened at the bar earlier?” she asked. Cindy took a moment, then nodded and laughed, realizing how silly her question was. “No, not at the moment.”
“Well, there’s someone for everyone.” Cindy said. “A lid for every pot, as my granny used to say.”
“Your granny sounds wise.” Harlow mused, a small laugh. She hated this. Every second of it. Cindy was a good person, trying to get to know the woman who had been sleeping with her fiancé.
“She was. Listen, I’m so glad there’s another girl here. Sometimes being with all of them, it drives me nuts!” Cindy laughed, pulling a face, and doing it beautifully. “I really hope we can become great friends.” Harlow swallowed down the bile rising in her throat now.
“I do too.” she softly agreed. “Will you excuse me for a moment?” Cindy nodded, and Harlow quickly got up, heading towards the bathroom. Gripping the dingy sink, she tried to calm herself. Guilt wracked her body, tears stinging her eyes, surprising her that she had any left after the past twenty-four hours.
Looking in the mirror, Harlow took in her appearance. Sweaty, mascara running, she turned on the faucet splashing her cheeks to wipe away the black streaks. When she was done, she re-examined herself. This Harlow was different. This Harlow was not the Harlow from days gone by.
This Harlow was going to get her revenge on Samuel Kiszka.
For her, and for Cindy.

I admittedly went into the series not expecting much. It’s a superhero show. It’ll be fun! But somehow fucking DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is hitting almost every itch I have for queer representation that I don’t see enough, or any, of elsewhere.
First off, it’s a fun show. It’s hilarious. It doesn’t take itself too seriously in a way that lets it be fun, but clearly the writers take the the show seriously because of the inside jokes that don’t break the mood if you don’t get it and because of how well they treat their characters.
But I’m here to talk about the queer rep. BTW, spoilers ahead (I say while having one more season to go…)
I suppose that I’ve been taught to not expect much, especially from action or superhero genres where every hint of a gay character is treated like an amazing first that people are suppose to be grateful for. But I really wasn’t expecting this.
First remarkable thing is the sheer quantity. You want a queer character? How about 7? How about they be main characters? How about they be emphatically queer while being queer has nothing to do with that character’s plot??
But the best thing for me is how they show queerness.
I have always felt that, as much progress as we have made, the goal for media should be that Indiana Jones (or Bond, or anyone) can be queer in an unquestionable way. It shouldn’t need a big explanation or be a shock. My personal goal would be that any generic action hero can unexpectedly turn out to be queer because it could easily go any direction. And Indiana Jones casually gets the guy. Or whatever. And that’s what Sara Lance does.
Sara Lance is ~arguably~ the main character. Hard to have a main character with that big of a cast, but she counts enough to make my point. The main character is bi. Visibly and emphatically and gleefully bi. And the show makes damn sure this fact never gets forgotten, but it is not a part of her backstory. It just is, without reasons or explanations.
She spends a lot of the show Casanova-ing her way across history, seducing women right and left in such a traditional male-adventure-hero type role that had me so happy. She took on such a traditional role that women have never had and did it is such a matter of fact way. Her confidence was never questioned. Her competence was never questioned. Her sexuality was never questioned. She didn’t even need to “come out”, she just existed like it was normal.
And this same character is the one who has had the longest, healthiest, most stable relationship in the show. I don’t know what happens in the last season, but it honestly wouldn’t even feel like “burying the gays” if Ava died at this point. It wouldn’t feel like a punishment for being queer because it was so openly celebrated for so much of the show.
Now that I’ve got Sara out of the way (because I love her too much to write this without her), it’s time to get to Mick Rory. Because Mick is fucking fantastic.
Mick is even more shocking than Sara when it comes to queer rep because he represents so much of the less visible representation. He is so visibly male and tough and abrasive. He comes across as questionably literate and is known for being the brawn and pyromaniac of the group.
This isn’t the sort of character that is known for getting any queer representation, then he stops drinking just long enough to pop off one of the best, most impassioned speeches about being “othered” that I’ve ever heard, and probably the only time I’ve every heard the phrase used outside of niche online communities.
He turns out to be a writer… of space opera sci-fi romance novels. A prolific, published author who adores his army of female fans, which is more respect towards a female audience than most shows seem to have. An author who, when he finally revealed who he was, preferred that his fans continue to call him Rebecca when talking to him. This isn’t quite trans representation, but it is incredibly satisfying and normalizing. Someone who looks and acts like him being comfortable being called Rebecca combined with the fact that he didn’t even get a strange look over the choice.
He has been referred to as a “skirt chaser” but rarely shows interest in anyone. Honestly feels like decent rep for aromantic and/or monsterfucker (which is one of those categories that I feel belongs under the queer umbrella).
And I just love how queerness permeates the show. There is never a shocked “wait.. you’re gay!!”. There are no token gays that are quickly forgotten and there are also no queer characters whose plot point is being gay. It just exists naturally and normally and it feels fucking fantastic.
I could probably polish this up a bit, but it’s really gotten away from me. I really love this show, and I just needed to get this out!

only the option with the lowest percentage will be eliminated! propaganda under the cut (and more is always welcome!):
tim drake and stephanie brown:
Tim and Steph are a thing for most of their history. Then stuff happens and they break up and soon after that Tim is confirmed to be bi and starts dating Bernard (former random side character who nobody thought would ever be relevant again)
lisa cuddy and gregory house:
The show spends 7 seasons hinting that House is going to end up with Cuddy, and then writes her out in season 7. In the finale, he has a flashback of people who impacted his life and she doesn’t even show If House and Wilson can’t be together, then House and Cuddy should
nell serrano and edward:
Not Dead Yet? More like Not Together Yet
ash ketchum and misty:
They’re basically set up as a kind of enemies to friends story and they make recurring jokes about how she clearly has a big crush on him, but nothing ever happens My childhood, i shipped them when I was 10
matthew and mary crawley:
They spend multiple seasons full of tension to get their happy ever after. There are so many tropes used between these two. They finally get their shit together and get married, and then have a beautiful child together. Matthew is so happy about his child being born that he doesn't pay attention to the road and fucking DIES IN A CAR CRASH. And that's how their story ends. It makes me so livid every time I think about it lol they really killed him off like that right after and I mean RIGHT AFTER his child is born. It's so foul and every man that they set Mary up with after that doesn't feel nearly the same
maka albarn and soul evans:
Throughout the series, they have a deep friendship with each other which is consistently extremely important to the story's narrative. In order for them to be able to fight, they must get along and resonate with each other, and due to the mechanics of their world, fighting independently of each other is extremely difficult. In multiple instances, they are shown to be willing to put themselves in harm's way to extreme degrees to keep each other safe. They are even shown to live together. They are The Singular Straight Ship I have ever shipped and I love them. Also they are really cool and Soul can turn into an awesome scythe weapon that like only Maka can wield. And they fight really awesomely together.
grace blackthorn and christopher lightwood:
Okay so basically in Shadowhunters there was this family tree, and on it it stated that Christopher and Grace got married and had a kid. And in the book series they were just good friends. Cassandra Clare (the author) has said it’s inaccurate. But like cmon you said they were going to get married 😭😭
kipo oak and benson mekler:
It only lasts a few episodes, but this is a very clear INTENTIONAL straight bait from the writers, as it's a female main character with a male major supporting character, and Benson even takes Kipo to a carnival, which Kipo interprets as a date, until she confesses attraction to him, where he tells her he's gay and just wants to be friends.
cali and flynn:
It starts off as a one-sided crush on Flynn’s side, and later becomes mutual when Cali develops feelings for him in the Skylanders IDW spin-off comics, their romantic tension lasts for most of the franchise (five games, a chapter of a spin-off comic, and a few bits and pieces in the spin-off books and mobile games), so far they’ve never gotten together as the franchise is currently still in hiatus mode (says this while on extreme copium) I think we need to appreciate the tropes in Calynn: Opposites Attract, Tough Girl x Himbo, Smart x Dumb, “You’re stupid, I like that in a man” vibes all over this ship! Seven year old me didn’t see Cali calling Flynn her guy in the sky whilst Flynn looked at her with heart eyes to lose to some other pairing!
good luck everyone! now go vote!

Other scattered thoughts on The Zeppo (that sadly don't give me an excuse to use R):
I get that it's part of the point of the episode, and it is a funny joke, but it still kind of annoys me that ... not just that we don't get to see the episode from Buffy's perspective, but that the background plot of this episode doesn't really make any sense in the wider continuity of Season 3. It just feels like it would have worked better in Season 2 or Season 4 to have this sort of unscheduled apocalypse (and indeed, Doomed in Season 4 does much the same thing). This season is meant to have an arc villain with a long-term plan that he's been working on for a century. We heard him say (in Lovers Walk, just a handful of episode ago), that this year was "too important" to let somebody like Spike cause random trouble in town. But he does nothing at all to stop a group of demons trying to literally open the Hellmouth? It kind of makes it hard to maintain suspension of disbelief or think of the Mayor as an actual serious threat. (Yeah, I know that this is just me being annoyed that the show isn't even trying to be the exact sort of show I wish it were. It won't be the last time that that bugs me.)
Weirdly enough, I like Cordelia and Xander's dynamic a lot more this episode than I think I did for the entire time they were an item. They do actually feel like they know each other and even think alike (both going for the Jimmy Olsen reference, for example), and however much she prides herself on being mean Cordelia is notably the only person this episode to actually talk to Xander like something approaching an equal (albeit an equal she doesn't like much). And am I imagining things, or are there hints this episode that Cordelia's family is already having money trouble? Why has she suddenly decided that owning a "shiny car" isn't actually important? Why do we not see or hear about Cordelia's car this episode?
"Two guys rassling ... but not in a gay way!" I mean, between this and Season 1's "he's a very attractive man! how come that never came up?" and Season 2's "I don't trust Oz with her [...] he's a senior, he's attractive" and "No worries, I can handle the Oz Full Monty" from earlier this season and Season 4's "I totally get it now. Can I have sex with Riley too?" and Season 5's "It's understandable. Spike is strong and mysterious and sort of compact but well-muscled" and so many more things the writers have had Xander say it really is something of a crime that the show never actually comitted to the idea that Xander is bisexual. Of course, to do that, the writers would have had to recognize that bi people exist, which is admittedly something of a stumbling block.
"I like the quiet" is one of those lines that (much like Giles's "she's a hero [...] she's not like us" in The Gift) seems to get weirdly misunderstood by large parts of the fandom.
With Jack casually raising his old buddies from the dead with their old personalities and memories intact and Oz accidentally eating a (mostly) human being while a werewolf and it being treated as a punchline rather than murder this episode isn't exactly great for tonal consistency with the rest of the show, huh? (I did warn you the instance above wouldn't be the last time the show's refusal to take itself seriously irritated me.)
Next up (assuming Tumblr's still around when I get to it): Bad Girls.

Hey, would you happen to have lore receipts for Drifter being bi? Just curious, it’s been a while since I read trough his lore :) I would also add Petra to the list of gays as well, while not confirmed, she’s heavily implied to be in love with Mara.
Oh yeah, Petra! 100% wlw and heavily implied to be in love with Mara. Awoken just be like that.
On to Drifter, yes! He is my blorbo and he is the best.
First, we know he likes women because he very obviously had (still has?) a thing for Orin. He also tried flirting with Lady Efrideet (disastrous result). And he very obviously likes Eris. To what extent, we can't tell, but he enjoys her company and has explicitly said that he likes how "freakyx she is. He also most recently dedicated time to make her a nice meal in seasonal armour (Eidolon Pursuant set).
The other hints are in how he talks about certain things in general. For example:
And you know me. I like to keep some folk close—real close. I feel somebody's hand on my throat, I figure they're about to kill me or kiss me.
Personally, I like to keep my options open.
It doesn't specify gender!
Also this:
"Had a face like the end-times and eyes like manna in the desert. One look at him, and I knew I wasn't gonna be saved."
Who is this man whose eyes he's complimenting? (probably Shin)
More directly though, he's very openly flirting with men for no reason and out of nowhere, as well as using as much innuendo as possible while he talks.
His first target? Zavala. These lines from Arrivals for example. He's so direct when asking if Zavala came to see him because he's special. Like, hello? Also this absolutely bonkers innuendo about Zavala he sent to Ikora (from Witch Queen CE book):
Hey Ikora,
Did you sign off on this? Zavala ordered a search of my ship to get samples of my plants? "There are known similarities between your vessel's infestation and the growths aboard the derelict Glykon Volatus." Tell the big guy that if he wants to get at my garden, he'd better start pounding some Primevals.
Transmat firing,
D
I think that's as far as they could've gone with that one without crossing the ratings line.
And my fave for last. So, there's a lore book about Ada-1 making the loom for transmog and at one point she visits Rahool for help. And he explains that it will take a long time to search for things she needs so she asks if she can search herself. And then:
Rahool shook his head. "Access to the classified archives is limited to sanctioned Guardians, Tower support staff, or the Vanguard themselves. You are none of those things."
Ada scoffed. "Don't be ridiculous, I've seen that Drifter perusing this data on a weekly basis for his own amusement."
"That's not— there's no way—" Rahool stammered and blushed. "I assure you, no such breach has occurred."
I'm sorry, but nobody will ever convince me that this isn't confirmation that Rahool and Drifter are hooking up and Rahool is giving him access to the Cryptarchy archives.
The way this is written is beyond funny. First, Ada practically lives next to Drifter and she says she's SEEN him using the archives. So she has personally seen something going on between Drifter and Rahool. On a weekly basis.
And then also Rahool "stammering and blushing." That's fanfic level acknowledgement. Why would he stammer and blush if he didn't allow it? Wouldn't he be angry about it and ask that Ada tell him all she knows right away so that he can report Drifter? Nope. He's stammering and blushing. Case closed.
In conclusion, Drifter likes dangerous women who can snap him in half and Awoken men. I don't blame him.
Additionally, something I like very much, a certain bounty you can take for Gambit:
Tumblr media
The text changes depending on your character's gender. This is the text for the female Guardian, but if you're on a male Guardian, he'll say it the other way around with king/queen.
Drifter says trans rights!

Because this Tweet has been circulating, I just want to address some things.
Tumblr media
I’d like to preface this with:
I love Stranger Things.
I think this season (and the last), was flawed in several ways. It’s okay to say it. Media is subjective, and I usually don’t feel the urge to defend my favourites with my life, especially after I’ve read discourse directly from people it concerns the most.
I think this Tweet is misunderstanding (and derailing from) the queer fanbase’s major concerns. No, I don’t think the writers were queerbaiting with Robin or Will, who are canonically queer. I haven’t even come across any opinions really saying that. (If anything, the writers—or rather the cast—were perhaps queerbaiting with some Eddie and Nancy scenes.)
This isn’t a conversation about what an artist owes their audience. The writers, of course, owe us nothing. Regardless, I think it's important to discuss the effects of an existing, ongoing high-profile show that will inadvertantly affect peoples' worldview.
I think Robin's coming out scene was really beautiful. I would change nothing. I love that she has a love interest this season. However, I think it's valid to say her love interest is the only side-character one so far, and we have yet to see much of her character beyond being hyperactive in much the same way as Robin. Nearly every single book I’ve read over the last couple of years have been about and/or by queer people, and from my personal intuition of whether there’s been a lot of nuance, thought, and care put into a fictional character … This isn’t one of them.
Whether the writers meant for it to be that way or not, the audience picked up on Will's queer vibe from the beginning—similarly to how we saw it in Elsa from Disney’s Frozen. The Duffer brothers (unlike Disney) chose to not go against that natural progression of the character … which I believe is the bare minimum, because doing so without good reason would be a slightly odd decision from the writer’s end at best, at least kind of homophobic at worst.
I think the gentle way Will’s queerness has been highlighted this season through his feelings for Mike, and his scene with Jonathan was wonderful. His confession to Mike was rich with palpable emotion. At the same time, I understand that a high-profile show like this has a wide fanbase, and explicitly addressing Will’s sexuality the way they did Robin’s would have been another amazing win for the LGBTQ+ visibility on-screen—directly shutting down homophobes that might try to deny it. (Y’all should know that homophobes are wildly talented at het-washing queercoded characters.) This was a missed opportunity.
To add insult to injury (and setting aside the fact that all of Will’s character arcs have been based on suffering), I think the way Will used his confession as a clearly excruciating ~ selfless ~ act of support for his obviously straight crush’s heterosexual relationship was … actually distressing. Y’all, this has been done before in media practically word for word, time and time again. It’s queer torture-porn and clever bi-erasure. It’s ✨ authentic ✨, sure, but in the way the bury-the-gays trope is: Hide away the queers for the comfort of the majority cishet audience.
(When can we expect authentic mainstream media about queer people that lived and loved? They existed, too.)
I also think it was a cop-out. I just feel like while the technical adventure/sci-fi plot of Stranger Things is almost flawless, they sometimes don’t know what to do to add interpersonal relationship progressions. They rekindled some drama between Steve, Nancy and Jonathan, with hints at the end of continuation into the next season. It’s unnecessary and repetitive, reminiscent of old lengthy romcom series.
I think what really would have been interesting, brave, revolutionary (and realistic) is if they had left the adult characters alone, and stirred up some drama between the teenagers instead.
What if Mike were queer? What if he and El truly did grow out of each other, like they seem to have been doing naturally for the past two seasons? (The setup and context of Mike’s monologue to El—indicating they’re probably going to be endgame after all—was great, but I think even a teenage boy like him could have said less corny words that actually made me feel something, especially as a former Mileven fanatic.) Just like I want someone new for Steve, I've ended up wanting someone better (or no one but herself) for Eleven. There were several scenes in which I swore I could feel a palpable tension between Mike and Will. I don't want Byler to happen for the sake of an achillean protagonist. I want it to happen because I truly see the potential in the characters; I think it would be extraordinary turn of events, true to the spirit of Stranger Things’ generally excellent storytelling.
But a canon Byler would’ve imploded the fanbase. Canon Bylers don’t happen. They’re left for fanfic. That’s how it’s worked for decades. The main straight character can’t be queer, because he never acted queer. Because for years, media has indicated that queer people can be put in boxes. By risking some of its (huge) revenue, Stranger Things could’ve played a major part in changing that.
Or they could have just altered the car scene to not make such a big deal out of simple rejection, and spared the queer community from another subtle blow.
As we optimistically wait for new developments, I think it's important to note that the world is going to sit with just what we have so far until 2024, and we'll get only one more season.
Maybe you think Stranger Things did great on this front because you're comparing it to other, worse Netflix shows, but some of those are objectively—perhaps even deliberately—trashy. The film industry is trash, and while we should praise even the tiniest positive change, it's not an excuse to turn a blind eye towards remaining concerns.

Season 3 Episode 4 Thoughts
BI ASHLYN BI ASHLYN BI ASHLYN… (possibly lesbian?? We’ll see)
All of you who called Maddox being gay… you were so, so right
Oh honey, Carlos, your straight dar is so, so very broken. Not only were you wrong about Maddox, but like the stuff about her dating her brother 😭😭 that was painful to listen to
I am by no means, a p*rtwell, but I will give credit where credits is due: I actually really liked the LIAOD duet. Their voices sounded nice together and I enjoyed the beginning with the stripped down piano part. I don’t know that we’ve heard Gina do more of a single instrumental song yet, so hearing her raw voice was beautiful!
My poor baby Kourtney. That hurts my heart seeing her so anxious. Her mom actually gave some pretty sound advice. Removing the “shoulds”… feeling how you should feel? We’ve got removing cognitive distortions and validating emotions. Made my heart happy 🥲
Jet was so angsty and for what 😭😂
Gina was so so cute this episode. She was literally glowing?? Like you could just tell how happy she was and the scene when she helped Kourtney made my heart soft 🥲 I just love seeing her in her happy era compared to last season. It’s a fresh, much needed thing
Along those lines… Ricky is in his happy era?? Well… for the most part. He did walk out a couple times when he was jealous 😬 but like the last few episodes and stuff he just seemed so content with himself and life for the first time in forever? (Pun intended… maybe that’s his and Gina’s song because they have both been THROUGH IT lol). He got his Corbin hug 🥹 and he just seemed like he was just trying his best to make the most of his situation at camp… I think EJ started to get in his head a lot
But also the 80’s villain line from Corbin? 🤣😭😭 comedy GOLD. Who wouldn’t laugh at that?? Lmaooo
Ok again, not a p*rtwell, but I want to make something clear about this next point: I’m not saying this because I’m a rina. I genuinely ship EJ and Val. Or at least am starting too. Val called him out that he’s been having deep, girlfriend talks with her. It’s so easy for him to open up with her. When he is with Gina everything is stiff? Tense? Lack of chemistry? But with Val it seems so easy between them. Like they’ve known each other forever. And she’s in college which is just a bonus on top
It’s interesting we’re addressing Kourt’s anxiety so much but EJ’s feels really brushed over? Like he has no one giving him those pep talks. Instead his dad is putting undue pressure on him. Why is his dad so keen on pushing him? It makes me sad. I think it would be cool to see Kourt use the advice from her mom and give EJ similar advice. They both could use it
I’m not a huge fan of the song “fabulous”. It’s my least favorite from the movies but it was fun watching Carlos and Kourt sing it. Very Ryan and Sharpay of them which they’ve been giving a lot this season 😂
AND NOW: RINA
PINING RICKY PINING RICKY PINING RICKY
I am not sure I even counted this correctly but there were at LEAST 6 or 7 stolen glances, for sure 1 per scene between Ricky and Gina
I can’t even tell you how many times I rewound this episode to see every stolen glance. Someone make a gifset pleaseeeee
I also didn’t expect EJ to say out of pocket things right out the gate like that. Like I knew there would be some contention between the two (predicted it last episode thought rambles) but wowww he was VERY quick to jump on Ricky
And I don’t say that as EJ slander. I think he is under a LOT of stress and doesn’t know how to cope. With his relationship kind of falling under it makes sense he might be lashing. He’s not being nice, but it’s also understandable.
But also, I don’t ~love~ that he was mad at Ricky and Gina being gone because he had every opportunity to go and blew up at them last episode. He did take some accountability for this thought which was good
Also Ricky jumping at the chance to sing LIAOD and the show intentionally said, “NO THIS SONG IS FOR EJ AND GINA TO SING”. It’s literally leaving us no hints at this point that they are not the couple of this show. Like it is very intentional they’re showing EJ as hans in this situation and that he had to be the one to sing it with Gina. But also very cute mr bowen that you wanted to sing about love with her 🥹
Speaking of… isn’t there a rickyxgina duet coming this season possibly? Just saying. We might want to compare the two 😉
I have said it 1000x and I will say it 1000 more: STAGING IS EVERYTHING. They take and retake these scenes so they have to make sure ever prop, placement… everything is exactly where it should be. Notice who seems to be in the middle in multiple ways in the staging? Mr Bowen himself. The movie night was the biggest one screaming it. Like he could have sat anywhere and he sat right in the middle 😭😭😭
Also all of Ricky’s compliments to Gina and him defending her to Jet 😭😭 he is such a protective almost boyfriend I love it sm
AND OMG JET CALLING HIM OUT???? Yeah jet was me and every other rina in that scene 😂 but also, I feel like the “you don’t know the whole story” was set up for more 👀 so then what is the whole story Ricky? Anything to do with another flashback?? With chocolates? Hmmmmmmm???? 🧐🤨📸
(This also fits my Ricky is Hans and Jet is Sven for their “off stage” symbolic characters because Sven called out Kristoff in the movie with sus looks and stuff. He really understood Kristoff in a way no one else- but Anna- did. They’re just this cute friend duo that I love)
Also can I just point out Gina’s laugh in the wishlist part? That was the most GENUINE laugh I heard from any season from her. She just sounded so happy 🥲
RINA HELD HANDS…. AGAIN??? Their parallels do be unmatched to any other couple in the show
I have no idea what kind of drama EJ is going to stir up but I’m SURE it has to do with this triangle for the show. He said it took courage to make something big happen? It just feels like a very Hans thing to say. Oh P*W you are so bones I’m sorry 😭 because Gina said she can’t deal with liars and she was VERY clear. Soooo EJ’s washed
But ALSO SHE CANT DEAL WITH LIARS AND RICKY WALKS OUT??? What is he lying about?? Feelings???? Chocolates????? I mean it makes sense if he did because of Nini a little but I still feel like he would have no reason to lie unless there was more feelings behind why he delivered those to Gina. If he was doing it as a friendly gesture he might have even asked Nini to help? So yeahhhh boy you gonna get caught. But this lie feels… different somehow? Like maybe Gina might get upset but they weren’t dating and things were weird so it kind of makes sense why Ricky didn’t say anything. But he did make her feel stupid so she has every right to be mad? Idk the chocolates conversation could go a LOT of ways if (when) it happens
So yeah… I know that one tik toker who saw the episodes prior said that this episode would have rinas on a “rollercoaster” but I actually don’t feel shaken at ALL. In fact, rina endgame just feels even more solidified. Have I told you guys I love this season yet? Because I LOVE this season

Okay, so this is admittedly a rant (and it is a long one) so feel free to skip it if you are not interested in hearing my grievances with Stranger Things Season 4 Volume 2.
But if you do want to know my thoughts:
I really don’t think the show came through on any of their plot lines, especially the ones that involved queer characters.
They didn’t follow through on Vickie. Making her basically the same person as Robin would be a bad move anyway (after all queer characters deserve romantic relationships and love interests as complicated as the straight ones, and the straight relationships in the show that receive focus are not even close to as surface level). But then not giving any indication that Vickie was wlw makes me wonder why they even bothered to include her at all aside from the obvious queer baiting. Like even if she is bi, the fact that they did nothing to confirm that feel purposeful.
The way they killed Eddie also annoyed me. I suspected they were going to kill him, which is fine I suppose, but the way they did it felt rushed and superficial. They didn’t even have him die in a helpful way. He died for literally no reason. Like the bats were following them anyway. He didn’t save anyone. The way they killed him felt like they only did it so that they could have a sad death in the season finale and I am honestly pissed about that. Like that is just fucked up. I wouldn’t be pissed if he died in a plot significant way or saving someone, but it was such an afterthought. It felt like they only killed him because they didn’t want to kill a previously established main character. Literally any other character’s death would have made more sense and meant more. They didn’t even clear Eddies name in the end. (Also the way that they did quite a lot of queer coding with him too is very reminiscent of the way they hint at the queerness of other characters like Will but then never confirm it)
Johnathan is still lying to Nancy and they are still together (so that whole plot line also means nothing because nothing changed).
Will still hasn’t confessed his feelings to Mike, but he also hasn’t talked about it to anyone (maintaining the ability of homophobic fans to still pretend he is straight like they’ve been doing the whole time). His wistful gazes but with no confirmation are really starting to feel like queer baiting. They also implied that Mike was not into Eleven, but then had him tell her he loves her in a super rushed way, which also honestly felt like queer baiting and also just really poorly done in general. Even Will’s painting is then used to help the straight romance, which is annoying because I am sick of gay characters being used as plot devices to benefit straight characters and their relationships.
They didn’t actually kill Max even though it would have made more sense and been more impactful. It felt like the only reason she didn’t die is because she was a main character, which is not a good reason to keep a character alive.
They really said “I’m going to wrap up every plot line in the most unsatisfying way possible”.
Why add all these plot lines if they weren’t going to do anything with them? What is the point of any of this?
It all feels like they spent a whole season just trying to get the characters back in the same place solely so that they can have another season.
The last episode felt super rushed. I mean the whole idea that he needed 4 deaths wasn’t revealed until the last episode, and that was really the only plot line they committed to.
I’m very frustrated with the ending of this season.

You haven't read the manga?..... If you only read the cherry picked levihan moments then let me tell you (not sending this with ill intend btw) that for every small Levihan moment there's a big eruri one. Like that convo where he shuts hange out after it was said about her crush on shadis? Levi actually talks afterwards about how he wants Hange to take over the rots mission and for Erwin to stay tucked in safe.
When Hange was hurt during the uprising the moment he sees Erwin he's just nonchalant about? And yes she said she was okay and he was mad about her being hurt in the first place, but the looks he gives erwin not only this moment but throughout? Not really platonic tbh...
Or the falling debris scene where he seems distracted? Yes he's thinking about hange's safety but the worried look is at Erwin's direction on the wall.
And also in chuugaku, there's a chapter about Erwin and Levi's relationship, exposition provided by Hange herself, where it's pretty much implied that Levi has the hots for him (complete with a bottom levi joke). Like he's the only member of the "home-making" club headed by Erwin where he basically cleans and cooks for him while erwin reads his paper like they're a couple and they've put marks like: don't search eruri on tumblr/ao3 haha.
Point is while levihan is a ship that's MAYBE canon, there's a lot more concrete evidence for eruri. The only thing that throws it off is there's no discussion about Erwin's feelings nowhere that could be interpreted as romantic. And combine that with his crush for dok's wife back in the day maybe he wasn't into Levi the same way/ maybe bi, we'll never know.
But Levi legit was in love with him.
What strengthens levihan on the other hand is that hange is transparent about her feelings for Levi. And if you take the last chapters into consideration then levi could have reciprocated them. It wasnt framed as clear as his feelings for Erwin though imo.
I'm not against either ship and think they're both precious, but levihan is a lot harder to read into and it makes me sad their romantic relationship wasn't more developed if romance was what Isayama hinted yo towards the end. Maybe yams left levihan up to interpretation deliberately? Maybe we read too much into it and it's not really there? Maybe eruri was queerbaiting? Maybe both are canon and Levi's just swings both ways? Idk the answers to any of that and unless the author comes clean we'll never be sure about levihan a hundred percent. Less doubts about eruri though...
Anyways, no hard feelings and I really LOVE your fanfics! Hope you have a very nice day and continue writing!
I have been looking for the right time to go through this ask because this ask just kinda made me think but not like about anything against the eruri ship. Like go ahead, ship eruri and feel free to meta eruri in my anon inbox but like the arguments here are a bit wishy washy.
Like that convo where he shuts hange out after it was said about her crush on shadis? Levi actually talks afterwards about how he wants Hange to take over the rots mission and for Erwin to stay tucked in safe.
Well, of course he would ask Erwin to stay tucked safe. Erwin is literally missing one arm and Hange was the most competent person to lead in the field at that point in time. How is this related to romance? I mean, if you wanna play the romance game, remember that Levi was legit injured, he could barely stand and he still forced himself to stand up to talk to Hange.
When Hange was hurt during the uprising the moment he sees Erwin he's just nonchalant about? And yes she said she was okay and he was mad about her being hurt in the first place, but the looks he gives erwin not only this moment but throughout? Not really platonic tbh...
Levi literaly gave the most poker 'pokerface' in this scene and I do not understand how it could be seen as not platonic. If we're talking about non platonic looks then maybe we should look for a scene where Levi's biting his lip seductively because let's face it, all the looks Levi gave Erwin, Hange and Petra could all be interpreted as platonic, we're all just a bunch of shippers trying to find the romance and the canonicity for our favorite ship lmao.
Or the falling debris scene where he seems distracted? Yes he's thinking about hange's safety but the worried look is at Erwin's direction on the wall.
Yeah, because people like to stare at someone else while worrying about a particular someone's safety. I dunno but what if Levi was worried about both of them? Why do we have to blatantly disregard the fact that he explicitly mentioned 'Hange' in that scene and shoehorn Erwin's position in that scene.
Levi is literally an implied minor in chuugakkou and Erwin is a teacher. Nothing else needs to be said.
The flawed evidence above will only make for a flawed conclusion.
What strengthens levihan on the other hand is that hange is transparent about her feelings for Levi. And if you take the last chapters into consideration then levi could have reciprocated them. It wasnt framed as clear as his feelings for Erwin though imo.
As someone who has watched the show and read the manga and discussed this with people, none of my casual watcher friends even noticed Eruri crumbs. A lot of them didn't notice Levihan crumbs either so hey, we both lose here I guess.
My personal take on this and the takes of a lot of casual watchers I have talked to is, Levihan has more crumbs than Eruri but maybe it only got development given the circumstances post season 3 since Levi and Hange were working closely together. If Erwin didn't die, maybe there could have been more Eruri moments. I haven't seen enough though and I cannot so hastily conclude that Levi was in love with Erwin.
Levi could have in love with both of them. Or just one of them.
And yeah, maybe Levihans are reading too much into it. But so what if we read too much into it?
I like them. I will continued reading too much into relationships which I believe could have been healthy and could have had a great dynamic if they pushed through as something romantic.
The point of getting into a relationship is for two people to come out of it better people and I will continue to ship a couple which I think is sending a good message to others regardless of whether or not it was framed clearly enough for people to see the 'romance.'
'Living together' with someone may not be as clear as sex or a kiss for a lot of people but I think it runs MUCH MUCH MUCH deeper. Sex and kisses are a dime a dozen. Commitment and Cooperation are diamonds.

let’s break this down, shall we?
**disclaimer!! this is not meant to be an attack on this person! i am only going to be counterclaiming their points or explaining why they are incorrect. i do not mean any harm in this post**
Tumblr media
1. “mike/el and mike/will do not parallel each other” this is incorrect. mileven and byler have been paralleled throughout the seasons. for example, when el is stuck in the void and the upside down, the camera zooms in on her and pans out as she screams for mike. the same thing happens when will is in the upside down on halloween after the bullies push him over. it has the same camera angles, same type of music, and the same idea. they both call for mike.
2. byler has groundwork. from season one episode one they have been seen as closer than the other boys. they spent almost the entirety of season two together. the crazy together scene, hand holding scene, and shed scene alone should set their relationship apart from their relationships with the other members of the party. neither mike nor will act that way with dustin, max, or lucas. mike literally said asking will to be his friend was the best thing he’s ever done. if their season two relationship doesn’t show you how much groundwork they have, i don’t know what else will.
3. how are byler shippers “blindly ignorant to how writing works”?? sorry, but last time i checked, stranger things isn’t just a base level “you get what you see” type of show. the duffers have clarified many times that they don’t write at the surface level. everything they do has a purpose. that means minute details that seem like meaningless, second-long clips, could be symbols or easter eggs. many mileven shippers, (not all but a lot), only tend to see what is put in front of them. when in reality, that’s not what stranger things is. if you aren’t reading between the lines or taking note of small details while watching, key aspects of the show could fly over your head.
Tumblr media
4. this one is almost laughable. mileven has most definitely NOT been set up as romantic since episode one. first of all, mike and el didn’t even properly meet until episode two. and even then, mike was ready and willing to report her to social services! the only reason why he kept her for so long was because once he found out about her powers, he knew there was a chance of finding will again. he called her a weapon halfway through the first season, i don’t think that’s very romantic. yes, they became close friends early on, but there was not ANY romantic coding until the episode with their first kiss!! obviously mike developed a crush on el, she’s the first girl that ever gave him attention. not only that, but he was living through the trauma of maybe losing his closest friend forever! he was projecting those feelings onto el, while el literally thought they would be like siblings until mike kissed her-- she had no clue it was even romantic.
5. saying mike and will have zero romantic subtext is just plain bullshit. i stated a lot of it in point 2, but there is so much more. in season 3 for example, mike basically outs will during their fight. (some people like to claim that mike was referring to will’s immaturity, but there are so many other ways they could’ve phrased that. like i already stated, the duffers claim nothing they do is accidental, so why would they make that line so vague? it was referring to will being gay. along with all of will’s other gay coding throughout the series, i.e. lonnie calling him the f slur, troy and his friends calling him q***r and a fairy as well as making fun of him for being gay, hopper acting grossed out by will being gay and asking joyce “is he?”) then, mike tries to apologize and travels all around hawkins in the pouring rain!! just to find will. and don’t even get me started on the “not possible” scene... if y’all don’t see the CLEAR flirting in that scene,,,,,, i got news for you lol
6. saying that byler shippers just like “fetishizing handsome white boys” is absolutely disgusting and a gross generalization. i assure you that that is NOT the reason why we ship byler. it’s more or less because we are sick of seeing solely straight couples rushed into a relationship on little to no foundation or build-up and honestly makes no sense when you think about it (cough cough mileven), when there is a relationship with 10x more development right there that isn’t canon simply because it is not heterosexual. we also ship byler because it is a breath of fresh air to see young gay/bi characters and a healthy mlm relationship, if byler became canon it would make thousands of kids so happy who just want to see themselves on the screen! aside from that, we ship byler because of the countless hints, coding, potential, etc, the show has provided.
7. finally, telling us we need to “use a brain cell,” calling us delusional, saying we’re “bending the narrative,” is just mean. there was no reason to make personal attacks towards the people who ship byler. i see people shipping mileven every day and i am not calling them delusional or stupid because they choose to ship it. people are free to interpret the show however they like and ship whatever they want. if anything, you’re the one who is denying canon by acting like mike and will have no foundation or meaningful relationship. also, we’re not “pretending it’s inevitable”??? no one knows how the duffers are going to write the show. mileven could be canon now, and break up later. byler could happen in season 4-5, and it might not. no one knows, so the fact that you felt the need to bash byler shippers for their own opinion and interpretation of the show is pretty sad.
**again... i respect all ships, and i am not trying to attack this person. if i seem harsh it’s because they were SOOO disrespectful in their post towards byler shippers. i know not all mileven shippers are like this, but i wanted to clear up some of this one’s points and share my point of view. i also don’t agree with their behavior and how they addressed people with a different view than them, so i couldn’t let it go.**

only the option with the least votes will be eliminated! everyone else goes on to round 3. propaganda under the cut (and more always welcome!):
tim drake and stephanie brown:
Tim and Steph are a thing for most of their history. Then stuff happens and they break up and soon after that Tim is confirmed to be bi and starts dating Bernard (former random side character who nobody thought would ever be relevant again)
lisa cuddy and gregory house:
The show spends 7 seasons hinting that House is going to end up with Cuddy, and then writes her out in season 7. In the finale, he has a flashback of people who impacted his life and she doesn’t even show If House and Wilson can’t be together, then House and Cuddy should
