[Translation] Mao Isara Idol Story - A Student Council President’s Day Off
Season: Summer
Location: Seisoukan Common Room
Tumblr media
Mao: (Yawn) Go~od morning...
Ah, as expected, no one is here. It's that time where it's too late for breakfast but too early for lunch after all.
It's lonely to sit here in silence, should I turn on the TV? Any channel should be fine... The news will do.
(I had such a good sleep... It's been so long since I wasn't busy with school or work.)
(I won't think about difficult things today and just relax. After eating I'll...)
(What should I do? I haven't had a day to myself in so long I'm not sure what to do.)
(I think I'll just go out for now. It's nothing out of the ordinary, but I could go watch a movie alone. I wonder what they're playing right nowー)
(Ah. The report on JNLC[1] has started.)
(Right, Hibiki-senpai and Nagisa-san participated together. That duo was so unique they quickly became the talk of the town~)
(There were articles about how eccentric their performance was, and it blew up on social media too.)
Tumblr media
Aira: (Sigh)
Mao: (Huh, It's Shiratori. He's pacing up and down, I wonder what's up.)
Aira: What should I do... This is such a dilemma...
Mao: (Hmmm, he's obviously worried about something. I'm curious now, so I guess I'll hear him out.)
What's up, Shiratori? Is something troubling you?
Aira: Uuuu, Captain Isara... Nothing's happened yet, but I think something might soon...
Tenshouin-senpai is hospitalized right now, and as his roommate I'm supposed to bring him a change of clothes.
But like, I'm too nervous to take them with me! I start trembling just from touching them!
This is basically a hospital visit, right!? Is it even alright for me to go? But if I don't go, I will cause trouble for Tenshouin-senpai...
Also, his clothes smell so good! What kind of softener does a top idol even use!?
We're talking about Tenshouin-senpai after all, so it must be some foreign brand, right!?
Mao: Calm down. You're so worked up you're not really making any sense right now.
You don't need to be so nervous. If your senior asked you a favor, just take it with you as usual.
Aira: How can I do it as usual!? If I could I already would have done it!
Mao: I guess it can't be helped then... I'll go with you.
Tumblr media
Location: Saison Avenue
Aira: Thank you sooo much for coming with me, Captain Isara...!
Mao: Don't sweat it. Besides, it must be tough for Tenshouin-senpai, being hospitalized and all. He's been looking so much better lately compared to how he was last year.
Aira: Last year...
Mao: Yeah. Back when he ruled over Yumenosaki Academy as The Emperor.
I belonged to the student council back then too, so I didn't feel as distant to him as other students. Still, I never expected to just casually pay him a visit like this.
Aira: I'm not as carefree as you. We've been roommates for a while now, but I still can't help but feel awkward around him.
It's the same when I meet other idols, I get totally nervous...
Mao: Huh. I'm also an idol, but I don't think I remember you being nervous around me?
Aira: Because there's something different about you, Captain.
Mao: What's that supposed to mean...
If you mean I'm easy to get along with, then I don't mind♪
Tumblr media
Location: Hospital Room (Private Room)
Mao: What's that noise... Excu~se us.
Aira: T-Tenshouin-senpai, I brought your clothesー
Tumblr media
Eichi: ............
Aira: I-Is he dead!?
Mao: Huh!? F-for real, the waves on the heart monitor aren't moving!
Aira: I-I have to call an ambulance, wheres my phone!?
Mao: Keep it together! We're at the hospital, what's calling an ambulance gonna do!?
Aira: Excuse m... Huh, why'd Hiro-kun pick up?
Maybe I went to call history by accident. Sorry, don't worry about it!
Mao: That's why I told you to stay calm. There should be a call button by his bedside we can call a nurse with.
There it is. Just press thisー Uwaaaah!?
Aira: Eeeek! The corpse just grabbed your arm, Captaaain!
Eichi: Ah, good morning. ...Well, it's kinda late to say that now.
Mao: ............
Aira: ............
Eichi: What's wrong? It's impolite not to greet someone when they greet you. Especially since you are idols.
Mao: Uhhh... Are you really alive...?
Eichi: Of course. I was just pretending to be dead to entertain my visitors.
Mao: (He was pretending to be dead, huh... Come to think about it, this hospital is affiliated with his family after all.)
(It's no wonder why no one came to the sound of the monitor beeping. He got us good...)
You scared us to death instead... Look, Shiratori hasn't moved a millimeter since we got here.
Are you alright, Shiratori? Hang in there, man.
Aira: ...Ah!
Aira: I-I'm so glad you're alive, Tenshouin-senpai...! I thought you died because I didn't bring your clothes fast enough...
Mao: What kinda cause of death is that...?
How are you feeling, Tenshouin-senpai?
Eichi: I'm feeling fine. I'm not sick, I've just been overworking myself lately it seems.
I'll have to stay a bit longer for some extra examinations, just to be safe. But if everything goes fine I'll be discharged soon enough.
...That's right. Since you two are here already, can you do something fun for me?
Mao: Whaat?
Eichi: Well, Wataru always does something fun for me whenever he visits, you guys can do the same, right?
Mao: Err, even if you say that...
Eichi: Please. I am forbidden from leaving this hospital room, it feels like I'm some bird in a cage.
Without stimulation, mankind is bound to decline. I want to be able to give it my all as soon as I return, so I want you to indulge me.
Mao: (Ugh... There's no way out of this now. He's going to make us do what he wants no matter what...)
Aira: (whispering) What should we do, Captain? I can't think of anything interesting...
Mao: (whispering) Same, but we've got no choice but to do something... Hey, have you seen Hibiki-senpai and Nagisa-san's performance at the JNLC?
Aira: (whispering) Obviously, I replayed it over and over again.
Aira: (whispering) ...Wait, do you mean we should...!?
Mao: (whispering) Yep. Tenshouin-senpai probably wouldn't find it entertaining if we put on a manzai act[2], so shouldn't we do something he's already familiar with?
Aira: (whispering) I get that, but are we really going to do that...?
Eichi: Do you need more time? If you don't hurry I might actually die from boredom.
Mao: Eh, please don't say things like that, it's bad luck you know!
Let's do this, Shiratori!
Aira: All right, Captain!

All because of Cass
Sooooo idk how you’ll react but heres an attempt at Hironette. If this flops I won’t continue. THat means there’s potential for a second chapter, idk tho. I hope you enjoy. This is just like super quick.
The Master: Master List
----------------------------------------
“Good morning Aunt Cass, I gotta run or I’ll be late for school,” Hiro says, grabbing a piece of toast before running down the stairs.
“Wait! I need to talk to you!” Cass calls after the noir haired teen.
“What! I can’t hear you! I’m walking out the door!” Hiro calls before running down the street and towards his school. His friends may have graduated, but once or twice a week they promise to eat with each other. They still go out and help fight crime and they’re family. After school, he runs home to grab his suit so he can go out with the rest of his friends.
As he walks in the door, and the bell rings he hears a cheerful voice. “Hello welcome to the Lucky Cat Cafe.”
“Umm hi,” Hiro said before rushing towards the stairs.
“Wait! You can’t go up there, that’s the owner’s house!” she exclaims, following after him. She grabbed his arm, which made him do a jerk-twist motion. That’s how he ended up under a total, not to mention beautiful, stranger, whose face was completely red and her bright blue eyes wide. He guessed he looked the was the same way.
“What the commotion--- oh my god!” Cass laughs, almost falling down the stairs as the girl stood up. When she stood up, she held out a hand to help him up. “Hiro, this is what I was trying to talk to you this morning.”
“What did you wax the stairs?” he answered, brushing himself off before looking at the girl. She was wearing a black and white striped off the shoulder long-sleeved shirt with a navy blue high waisted skater skirt, with black ballet flats.
“Sorry, Cass, I didn’t realize he is your nephew. I..” her breath hitched, looking at Hiro again. “I’m going to get back to work. I’m sorry Hiro.”
“Wait! What’s your name?”
“Oh,” she said, looking over her shoulder. “I’m Marinette.” She said before collecting plates from a table.
“Wow,” he mutters before turning to walk up the steps just to be met by Aunt Cass.
“Soooooo?” Cass smirks.
“What do you mean so?” Hiro said, trying to cover his blush as she walked passed her.
“I see you blushing, do you like her?” Cass asks, following Hiro up the steps.
“I just met her,” Hiro said, putting a hand over his mouth before running up the steps. “I have homework to do, see you later.”
“Wait I need to talk to you!”
“What else is there to talk about?” He asked, turning from his spot on the stairs that head up to his room.
“I’m inviting Marinette for dinner so I can get to know her better, and I would like it if you would join,” Cass smiled.
“Ok cool, can I bring Baymax?”
“Maybe bring him down after dinner,” Cass negotiates, grabbing pots from the cabinet.
“Of course just text me ten minutes before dinner, Thank you, Aunt Cass, you’re the best,” Hiro said, rushing up the stairs. “Wow… just wow.” Hiro sighs before falling down onto his bed.
“Your dopamine levels are rising, did you meet someone you like?” Baymax asks after he finished inflating himself and scanning Hiro.
“Yes, she’s beautiful, you’re going to meet her later, but before that, we’re patrolling,” Hiro said, standing up and grabbing his suit along with Baymax’s suit. They spent time flying around, all together it was uneventful. He ran into Fred on his way back. “Hey Freddie, anything good tonight?”
“Nah, dude just some fans asking for pictures, a petty robber, ya know the usual,” Fred said. “How about you?”
“Just flew a bit, heading back to Aunt Cass’ I have dinner,” Hiro smiled.
“With a ‘beautiful’ girl as Hiro put it,” Baymax stated.
“Hiiiiiro! Do you have a crush!”
“I’ve only met her once, all I know is she has a French accent, her name is Marinette and she’s beautiful,” Hiro sighs.
“Well keep me updated about her when you figure out more,” Freddie said, jumping off the building as Hiro got Cass’s text. Hiro got back on Baymax’s back and they flew back to their house.
He had just finished taking off his suit when he heard footsteps climbing the stairs. “Hey Ummm Hiro, your aunt sent me up to call you for dinner,” Marinette said as she entered the room, he just finished pulling on his shirt. A beautiful blush spreads across her face. “Oh! I so- I’m so sorry!”
“Umm… Baymax, stay here I’ll be back in a bit, come one Marinette,” Hiro stammered, walking towards the door.
“Cass! I got him,” Marinette says, hopping down te last two steps.
“I’m sorry,” Cass says, rushing around the kitchen. “I have to go help my friend, she’s going into labor.”
“Don’t worry about it, we can reschedule!” Marinette brushed off with a smile.
“No! Don’t worry about it, there’s plenty of food, you guys eat without me, I insist,” Cass says, grabbing her coat off the hook near the stairs.
“You have a pregnant friend?” Hiro exclaims, shaking his head.
“Uhh yeah, I thought I told you about her, it doesn’t matter, I promised that I’d be there,” Cass says, rushing down the stairs.
“Soooo that was awkward, we are strangers and I don’t want to make you uncomfortable,” Marinette said, walking towards the stairs.
“No it’s fine,” Hiro says, grabbing her arm before quickly releasing it while stuttering out. “Ummm.... I mean unless you want to.”
“I don’t want to intrude,” Marinette said, looking up at him with her beautiful blue eyes.
“It’s wouldn’t be intruding, please join me, it would make my night,” he says, smoothly, before rubbing the back of his neck.
“I would love to.”
----------------------------------------------

For the fake exes prompt, Hijack with the house egging prompt?
‘im egging your house for a dare but your parent is a cop and they’re yelling at me so i told them that you were my ex and you wronged me and now you’re coming outside and please go along with this i don’t want to go to jail’ au
It was Halloween. Not necessarily Hiccup's favorite holiday, it was just too loud. He had never been much of a fan. So he was laying on his bed, sketching dragons while his younger step-brother was pacing the room, trying to put on his costume.
"You're a... marshmallow?", asked Hiccup curiously.
"What. No. I'm a robot", grunted Hiro offended. "You know, that big thing Tadashi is building."
Putting his sketch-book down, Hiccup took a closer look. "Right. You kind of do look like Baymax. Heh. That's adorable. Somehow, I expected something... less adorable from you."
"Why? He's our adorable little baby brother, Hiccup."
Hiro turned to glare fiercely at Tadashi as the oldest Haddock-Hamada brother was leaning against the doorway of the bedroom. Hiccup smiled faintly at them and picked his pencil up again. He loved his brothers very dearly. They had met through Hiro, who kept getting into trouble and kept getting himself and Tadashi, who always tried to bail him out, arrested. Repeatedly. Stoick Haddock, Hiccup's father, was the captain of the police station. Him and Cass Hamada started talking, about being single-parents, about their nerdy sons. And then they started talking outside of the police station, started dating. Now, Hiccup had a loving mother and two brothers.
"But you're not using Halloween as an excuse to go to another one of your bot-fights, right?"
"Tada—ashi, have some faith in your adorable little baby brother!", exclaimed Hiro offended.
Both Tadashi and Hiccup gave him an utterly unimpressed look at that, until he cracked. "Okay, okay, your accusations are not unfunded, however I actually do have plans with my friends."
"Friends", echoed Tadashi in disbelief, shaking his head. "My little baby brother, finally having friends. What are your plans then, Hiro?"
"Miguel is having a karaoke party at his place. Ever since his grandma stopped hating music, it's always a blast at their place", replied Hiro excitedly, bouncing a little.
"...Who's all going?", asked Hiccup curiously, exchanging a look with Tadashi.
"Well, Cupcake's coming. And Pippa. Monty. The twins, Caleb and Claude...", drawled Hiro.
"A—and Jamie Bennett?", asked both Tadashi and Hiccup at the same time.
"I mean, of course he is", grumbled Hiro, trying to hide his blush. "Whatever. I have places to be and cool people to hang out with. You two... stay here, be nerds, whatever."
His older brothers laughed while Hiro stormed out of the room. Teasing him was most definitely the most fun. Tadashi tilted his head as he looked at Hiccup, until Hiccup put his pen down again.
"What is it, Dashi?", asked Hiccup.
"Nothing. Just... wondering what your plans are", replied Tadashi casually before sitting down on the edge of Hiccup's bed. "Fred's throwing a costume-party. Everyone will be there. You could... come along too, you know. They'd be happy to see you."
"They're primarily your friends", grunted Hiccup and rolled his eyes.
"Okay. And why aren't you doing something with your friends then?", challenged Tadashi.
Hiccup paused at that. He had friends. But... if he was being honest, contact with them had kind of... run out, a bit. All his friends – Astrid, Snotlout, Tuffnut and Ruffnut – had gone to the sports-college. Astrid even had a boyfriend now; Eret. Hiccup should probably spend more time with his friends, but he felt like they were drifting apart; different interests, different colleges. As happened a lot with high school friendships, guessed Hiccup. Fishlegs, he was attending SFIT. The two had always been best friend, but nowadays Fishlegs was quite distracted with his new girlfriend – Heather, a girl Astrid had befriended in college. Hiccup... had a crush; one that wasn't going to lead anywhere anyway either so that wasn't an issue.
"C'mon, Hiccup. You can't spend all evening cooped up here", prodded Tadashi. "It's Halloween."
"You say that like it means something to me", drawled Hiccup dryly. "I am... not a fan of this day. You, go and dress up and have fun with the others. I'm happy right here."
Tadashi heaved a defeated sigh. "Okay, okay. I give up. Enjoy your solitude."
Hiccup rolled his eyes as Tadashi finally left. He was perfectly fine being right here. He didn't need to be among many people. He knew if the twins were there, there was going to be a lot of alcohol and nonsense and also it was kind of a frat party... which... especially when one wasn't even from that college, didn't seem very appealing. His mind wandered a little. His kind of crush had asked him to go trick or treating, but Jack was going with his own friends and Hiccup would feel awkward being kind of a fifth wheel there. Still, the idea of seeing Jack in a costume – any costume...
Hiccup blushed and glared at his drawing. He had been drawing Jack. Again. He kept doing that. It wasn't his fault; Jack was... amazing. Jackson Overland-St. North. The adopted son of their newest teacher at SFIT – Nicholas St. North, an absolute genius inventor. Jack was attending the art-college, where Honey Lemon was going too (and Cass insisted Hiccup should go too, but Hiccup focused on his education at SFIT, dual studies seemed just too much).
Jack was breathtaking, with his sparkly brown eyes and messy hazel hair, that mischievous, impish grin of his. And oh, he was so talented. And cheeky. Whenever he came over to SFIT, mostly to visit his adopted father and bring him lunch. They talked. Sometimes, Jack and Hiccup. And Hiccup, he had developed the biggest crush on Jack, only that he didn't know how to say it.
His pen scratched sharply over the paper as he heard loud noises from downstairs.
/break\
"I dare you to egg the house."
"Eugene, no", sighed Rapunzel, shaking her head at her boyfriend.
Eugene just grinned broadly and kissed his girlfriend's cheek before turning toward their shared best friend. "C'mon, Jack. It totally is your turn. It'll be fun."
And Jack allowed himself to be dared into it. Only that when the owners noticed and came out, there was a brief moment of utter terror overcoming both Jack and Eugene. That was the police captain, Stoick Haddock. Not only captain of the police station where Jack and Eugene may or may not be semi-regular guests for entirely unjustified reasons (minor pranks! And graffiti should not count as vandalism in Jack's opinion), he was also a wall of a man, so tall and broad. His upper arms were the size of Jack's head! Absolutely terrified did the boys stand there.
"What is the meaning of this?", barked Stoick out.
His wife, Cass Hamada (oh no. She was friends with Toothiana. Jack was never going to hear the end of this!), was right behind him, looking both concerned and disappointed. Eugene winced and tried to hide behind Jack, who just rolled his eyes at him. This was a problem. It became even more of a problem when Hiccup Haddock joined them outside – and oh. Maybe Jack should have seen the relations between Captain Haddock and Jack's crush... Jack winced.
"Did you brats seriously just egg the house of the police captain?", grunted Stoick unimpressed.
"I... I... I...", stammered Jack in distress. "I did it because Hiccup broke my heart."
Everyone stared at him in utter surprise at that, especially Hiccup. Jack tried to convey his intention to the other boy. Maybe Stoick would have pity with him – Cass certainly would – if they thought this was about a bad breakup. Please. He couldn't be taken to the precinct again. Nick and Toothiana had a limit to how often they were willing to bail him out...
"What? Hiccup!", exclaimed Cass, sounding very disappointed. "Why would you-"
There was silence for a moment as Hiccup stared at Jack pointedly, before he caved. "Yes. I... broke up with him because there was this... big project I had to work on. I had no time for distraction."
"Distraction?" The disappointment seemed to grow. "Hiccup Haddock, you will go and apologize to this boy and right that. I know your studies are very important to you, but you can't keep neglecting your social life. I expect that boy to come over for dinner next week!"
She ushered Hiccup outside before, impressively enough, dragging Stoick back inside before he could put his two cents in. Hiccup looked kind of lost as he approached Jack, Eugene and Rapunzel.
"That is one way of getting a boyfriend", noted Eugene surprised. "I mean, she definitely expects the two of you to 'get back together'. Come on, Raps, let's check on Lance and leave them to it."
Rapunzel smiled amused at Jack before the couple left. Blushing, Jack ducked his head when he noticed how much Hiccup was staring at him. And okay, he did look different. White-dyed hair, blue contacts, make-up to make him look paler than normal.
"Who... are you?", asked Hiccup softly. "I mean, the costume."
"I'm... Periwinkle", muttered Jack embarrassed, tugging on his fairy-wing. "Jamie's little sister wanted to be Tinkerbell but she didn't want to do it alone. My little sister dressed up as Bobble. You know, from the Tinkerbell movies. Periwinkle is Tinkerbell's snow-fairy-twin."
Hiccup nodded, his own cheeks red too. "That's... really cute. I mean, of you, for the girls."
"Yeah, we took them trick or treating. They're with... Eugene's friend Lance", nodded Jack slowly. "So... all of that was very embarrassed. I'm sorry, that was the first thing that came to my mind."
"It's... okay. I don't know how to explain to my mom that we 'didn't make up', but..."
"I mean we could just... you know...", suggested Jack with a daring look on his face. "Get together."
"...What", whispered Hiccup stunned.
"Do you wanna go out with me?", clarified Jack, cheeks red. "I... uh... like you."
"I like you too", replied Hiccup, ruffling his hair. "I'd... heh. I'd really like that."
Smiling brightly, Jack leaned in to kiss Hiccup's cheek before taking his hand. "C'mon. We're trick or treating and afterward, we're meeting at Moana's."
"What? I'm not even in costume, I-", protested Hiccup, just to be tugged along.
"Why? You're dressed as Hot Nerd. It's one of the top costumes of the year", teased Jack.
Hiccup simply sputtered as he was being pulled along, unable to argue with his boyfriend.

Do you think it would have been a dozen times more interesting if Mashima went with the plot of Young Weisz finding Shiki and taking him to serve as a protector (and money making scheme). So we'd have the innocent youth facing the darker underbelly of the galaxy. hardening up and then introduce the Edens Zero plot? Just so we have some character development. The idea of the main character starting out innocent only to harden and become darker would also match Shiki name.
Honestly yeah. Hiro’s “darkness” this time around is so surface level. The idea of a small time criminal thief from the past coming to the future and using a special child to help him actually become a big name crime boss would actually be an interesting relationship.
Starting with Shiki, I’ve said his most interesting trait is his social awkwardness and his tendency to act without knowing normal boundaries. Its too bad Hiro only ever does this for Shiki acting like a perv around Rebecca. So the idea of him thinking he has a friend but ultimately gets taken into a criminal under world would be interesting. To see him harden and question if the guy who took him out to the cosmos was his friend or just someone using him.
Same for Weisz. He’s in the wrong taking advantage of a person who wouldn’t know any better, but Weisz would have his own motivation for doing what he does. Possibly feeling cheated in his time and now this is a chance to start over. Make the future his time. He also would probably be in conflict of how much of Shiki is really his friend or is he just a means to an end. Weisz likely wouldn’t be too awful to SHiki given his background, but he would be the edge of the due that softens.
Think of it in old school mafia ways, Weisz could now be looking for respect, and the way he plans that is to be on top of the criminal world. Shiki probably would want his friend to be respected as well as find his grandpa or do what he wanted him to do. This way, If they’re criminals they are put in conflict with both Rogues and the Space army Justice is with. Because in canon. the crew of EZ have probably broken god knows how many laws.
They aren’t pirates, hell no one set out to do that, so I guess that makes this one big captain harlock cosplay. Cause they aren’t enemies of the government, and apparently you can travel and explore at you own risk. The only conflicts they’ve gotten into are cause Rebecca gets kidnapped and they react to it. But if Wiesz ad Shiki were breaking the law and trying to topple other crime lords for self gain, then it puts them both in the moral gray position, but makes them more proactive. Also alleviates Hiro of having to write in a government system that allows for this. kind of exploration.
You could also make it so you can help SHiki’s friend issue. He wants to have them and they could have like a familial/brotherhood like organization like yakuza. Hell, use the friend thing like if they become rich and powerful, Shiki would use his cut to set up a planet run by him for his friends. A fun place where they can all be happy and live there. Try and add something beyond the surface that utilizes the world. They probably would still run into planetary issues like chronophage and that would be a big mystery too.
Maybe take Michael with them. I wrote that Michael is the best case for the “robots have a heart” story, cause he can’t express. He has a face that doesn’t emote. Use your art to portray his state of being without him expressing with his face and watch Michael gradually actually want a face that expresses. Be more interesting then the robo-loli you’re dragging around, and would actually do justice given the fact he’s on the flipping front cover in color.
There is honestly a better story of EZ there. But no. It kinda seems we got Rave Master lite.

A while back, I made this post, so here are my thoughts now that most of these shows are over, as well as updated thoughts on ongoing ones
Black Clover: Still a show with ups and downs, but I’m to stubborn to stop watching. Despite Asta’s growing Harem, I still ship Asta/Noel.
My Hero Academia: I’ve started reading the manga, so I already know what happens. The training camp and rescue arcs were amazing. I loved the training, I loved the new villains, and All Might and Deku had their greatest battles so far. It’s still my favorite anime.
Comic Girls: It was a guilty pleasure. The show can be kind of dumb, and the humor too lewd, but I really did love the main cast, and how they embody different manga genres
Darling in the Franxx: Awkward moments aside, I loved this show. Hiro and Zero Two have one of my favorite romances ever, and seeing them reincarnated made me teary eyed. I wasn’t on board with Mitsuru and Kokoro at first, but I loved the pregnancy storyline. I think we can all agree that the parts of the ending that took place on earth was the ending the show deserved: The kids grew up, and repopulated a humanity free from Papa. I understand why people don’t like the alien plot, but that was my fan theory anyway, so I didn’t mind
Megalobox: This show was awesome. It reminded me of Rocky and Punch-Out. The soundtrack, animation and art-style were amazing. I loved the man vs machine nature to the fights.
Gegege No Kitaro: I love the Halloween theme of the show. As a Percy Jackson fan, I love seeing ancient mythology interacting with the modern day. I’m astonished that this is a kids show, especially with the infamous (and amazing) 7th episode. Apparently this is a franchise that has existed since the 60s, which probably why the first episode reminded me of the first 9th Doctor episode (audience surrogate meets long lasting character, and asks all the questions new audiences have)
Gundam Build Divers: It’s cute. It reminds me of the sort of shows 4Kids would dub. I’m calling it now: the blue haired girl is a program.
Layton Mystery Detective Agency: This show has no official international release, so I’m always behind. I’ve never played the Layton games, but this show makes me want to. I love the characters and all the crazy plot twists.
Magical Girl Ore: This show was low budget, but the comedy really carried it. I loved the plot twist with the villain. It was what I though Incredibles 2 was going to do before I was proven wrong.
Persona 5 the Animation: I’ve never played the game, but this show makes me want to. I can see where some things are probably rushed, but the story, characters and social commentary still really shine.
Pokemon Sun and Moon: The Aether foundation arc was VERY different from the game, but it still had the right tone and thematic material to make it satisfying in its own right. I loved the wedding episode, and I’m glad Jigglypuff’s subplot was finally resolved.
Food Wars: Despite the uncomfortable sexuality, I love this show, with a great storyline and great cast. I love how high stakes cooking tournaments can feel. Erina got a TON of character development this season, and I loved seeing her stand up to her abusive father. And I can’t believe the Infinity War’d most of the side cast. I find it a bit underwhelming that the season ended with the end of one round, but I’ve heard this tournament was only resolved a few weeks ago in the manga, so I understand the hiatus. As for the fandom’s ship war...I’m sorry, I can’t pick a side. Both Megami and Eria are such a good match for Soma, although I’m pretty sure he’ll get with Erina in the end.
Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online: The Gun Gale arc in the main series was pretty great, so I loved having a show in the same location. Karen/LLENN is really lovable. I loved the theme of how people reinvent themselves online, and exploring the mechanics of GGO more in-depth. Pito was just as crazy as all the SAO antagonists, and I found her backstory very fascinating. All in all, a great spin-off.
Tokyo Ghoul: I loved season one for its usage of vampire tropes but with a race other then vampires, and how effectively it showcase grey morality. Unfortunately, I found this season to be kind of dull. I did like some of the new characters, and was happy to so the old ones though. And the Sasaki/Kaneki internal conflict was pretty good.
Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku: I loved the show two (and in the last episode, almost 3) main couples. They’re so awkward and nerdy, and thus really relatable. I really related to Hirotaka. We’re both shut in nerds who don’t emote much, but can be really caring deep down.
FLCL: I saw both seasons on Toonami. I don’t understand this show, but I did enjoy the weirdness and animation. I guess as someone born in 1997, season one is something too before my time to understand. Then again, I don’t understand season 2 either. I’m still going to watch the next season in September, though.

Chapter I - A Daicon Romance
This is a joke.
That was her first thought. That this was a joke. Someone upstairs, someone at APE had gotten fed up with the casualties, or had just had a bad day and decided to be a dick, and assigned her here as some kind of stupid joke. That was the only explanation.
Right?
She looked down at him again, a full head shorter than her, with an unkempt mop of black hair and sparkly blue eyes that made this boy, allegedly the same age as her, look like a little kid from the right (wrong?) angle. Begrudgingly, she admitted to herself that he was a little bit cute, but more in like, a puppy way, than in the way boys usually were. She permitted herself a slight grin, at which he shifted on his feet, visibly nervous.
Then, to her surprise, he stuck out his hand. “I-I’m Hiro.”
Hmm. Surprisingly deep voice for a kid that looked like this. Almost sexy! Not quite, though.
“Zero Two.” She did not shake his hand. Or stop grinning. He, for his part, swallowed the lump of condensed nervousness in his throat and continued on.
“I’m the second-in-command of Squad 13. I’m, uh, pleased to meet you.”
Oh god now he was trying to sound leaderly. “Right.” Was all she offered back.
“You’re, um, going to be with us starting today, so I thought it made sense to come out and give you a warm welcome. So you’d, ah, feel at home.”
By now the grin was gone, replaced with a thin, flat line of annoyance. “At home, huh?”
Well, she couldn’t blame the kid for trying. She could blame him for being fucking annoying, though, and with that thought, gently batted his hand away, making the war medals affixed to her coat clink against each other like chain links.
“I’ve never been much for that kinda thing, sorry darling.”
She blinked. She really hadn’t meant that to sound quite so condescending and sarcastic, but, hiding how she felt wasn’t really one of her strong suits.
“Oh, ah” The kid pretended to stifle a cough--pretty convincing too, but, that kind of thing didn’t get by her. He ran his hand through his hair awkwardly. “S-sorry about that.”
“Now, Zero Two.” She felt a hand on her shoulder, and jumped. Just enough to turn her medals into windchimes again, but she felt a dim flushing heat rise to her cheeks regardless. Dr. Franques stepped out from behind her, rubbing his stainless steel chin in thought, the old cyborg’s voice permanently affected with a slight metallic echo as he spoke. “There’s no reason to be rude to the boy. Code 15, was it?”
“16 sir.” He gave a small salute to the doctor. Zero Two spent enough time around Franques that it was easy for her to forget that he was The High Doctor of Mechanics of the entirety of APE--and, apparently, to occasionally forget that he was there at all, if just a moment ago was any indication. Seeing someone respect him enough to snap a salute at him was just weird.
“Code 16! I do apologize, Zero Two is not one for socializing.” He patted her on the back, just enough to not quite qualify as “gently”. “Come come now, decorated you may be, but you’re not above basic manners.”
“S-sorry.” She muttered. She was sure her face was as red as the highlights on her jacket at this point. Embarrassment was not something that came easily to Zero Two but, something about the way Franques scolded you without quite actually seeming upset, yeah, that kinda did it. She adjusted her cap, pulling the brim down a bit, making her own hair--black like Hiro’s, but long, and straight--rustle around a bit, maybe hoping that all the motion would draw Hiro’s eyes somewhere else so he wouldn’t look right at her face.
“So this is Plantation 13!” The Doctor looked around the docking bay. It was sparse, with not much to it but two other airdocks like the one their craft had flown down to, the odd APE personnel bustling some supplies to or from one of the other ships, and a whole lot of supply crates, containing everything from food to fresh clothes to books and cassette tapes. “Why.” Franques began, staring down a nearby crate like it was the most fascinating object on the planet. “I was imagining a bit more, to be quite honest!”
Zero Two turned to look at the Doctor.
Hiro also turned to look at the Doctor.
They blinked--in unison, in fact.
“Hmmm. You know, Father did always say I was a terrible comedian.”
“Eh...heheh.” Hiro had managed to coax an awkward half-laugh out of himself, hand back to ruffling through his hair--did he always do that when he was nervous?--Zero Two couldn’t muster even that much.
“Well well, enough of my so-called humor. 16 my boy, why don’t you lead us to the Franxen Bay? I imagine it’s…” Franques tapped his finger to his chin. “Right next door, perhaps?”
Hiro, seeming quite impressed, nodded enthusiastically. “It is!”
“And the new Flowers have arrived?”
“They have, sir!”
“Excellent! Lead the way! Zero Two--” “Yeah, I’m coming.”

--
Boys and girls could be cute, but Zero Two was always taken aback at how drop-dead sexy 30 tons of nanosteel and advanced botanotech could look. Craning her neck enough that it was starting to ache, she examined the white-crimson titan. It barely looked it should be able to stand, really, but magma energy-infusion could do miraculous things. It was definitely top-heavy, with huge, round domes on its shoulders, and a head with a broad “panel” on the front that turned into “hair” the farther back along the helmet one went. Some kind of energy converter, if she’d read the schematics right a few days ago.
The real treat of course was its weapon. A hulking thing, bright orange from being infused with magma energy, in the shape of a massive, heavy lance. The Queen’s Pike, it was called.
“The Strelizia, huh?”
“Yeah.”
Shaking the crick out of her neck, Zero Two glanced around to make sure that Dr. Franques actually had wandered off somewhere this time. She rolled her eyes over to Hiro, that slight grin resurfacing. “We’re gonna get to pilot that, y’know?”
“Ah. Yeah, pretty crazy huh?” Speaking of grins, the kid was smiling like an idiot. On the subject of giant bio-robots being the sickest thing of all time at least, she seemed to see eye to eye--if only figuratively--with this “Hiro” kid.
“Wanna take it out for a test drive?”
“Huh?!” Okay, maybe not quite as cool as she’d momentarily thought he was.
“C’mon.” Her grin widened, and she walked her fingers up the boy’s side, planting them on the shoulder opposite to her, and pulling him a bit closer. “It’s ours anyway, right?”
“And I mean, it’s good to get some practice in, right? After all you’ve never done it before….right?” She moved her hand up his cheek, brushing it gently. He blushed.
“W...well.” God, boys were so easy.
“See, you get it.” She took a step forward. All they had to do was hop onto the loading lift, the small platform lead directly up to the Strelizia’s cockpit.
“I. I guess it can’t hurt.”
And just like that, a few steps forward, a moment on the elevator, and into the brains of the machine.
The inside was dimly lit, and quite cramped despite consisting mostly of a flat, black circle for the two pilots to stand on.
“Have you been inside a Franxx before?”
“No. Only the virtual testing cockpit.”
“Then you should know what to do. Come on-” She hurried him into the cockpit, closing the door, and the two of them stood on the platform inside the Strelizia, face to face, more or less.
“I..um. Only the cockpit for the...older models.”
“Ahhh. I see. The single pilots.” She wasn’t sure what it was. Maybe just the close quarters inside the mecha and the lack of light, maybe she was starting to warm up to him despite her better judgment. Maybe she was just feeling a little mischievous, but here, now, like this, he was kinda, just a bit cute.
More importantly, he was at her mercy.
She put a hand on his back and pulled him toward her. “It’s like waltzing. You know how to waltz, don’t you?”
“Uh-”
“Put your hand on my hip.”
“U...umm!!” Oh this was precious. Even in the dim light she could tell he was blushing again. It probably didn’t say anything good about her, did it? That this was when she felt closest to another….well, to a human being.
“You ready?”
Silently, Hiro nodded. Zero Two pulled him closer, and The Strelizia’s cockpit hummed to life.
“I! Uh!”
“Quiet, quiet. Shhhhhh.” They were close enough now that she could feel him start to calm down. He really was kind of a ball of nerves, wasn’t he?
“Alright. Hiro?”
“Yeah?”
“Close your eyes, and concentrate. On me.”
And he did.
She did the same.
And when they next opened their eyes, they saw out of the same pair. A different pair, 30 feet above the ground, and bigger than anything, as the blank facescreen on the Strelizia flickered to life, rendering a pair of great green eyes that made the inside of the docking bay look tiny.
The Strelizia’s shackles came off with ease, and the mech studied its hand. Closing and opening, wiggling its fingers.
“Cool feeling, right?” Zero Two let a giggle slip out.
“Yeah…” Hiro was awed. It was obvious, being in a Flower did that, it let you feel what your co-pilot was thinking.
“So, we just gonna stand here, darling? Or do you wanna get out and see the big blue sky?” Of course, that connection worked both ways. The second the question left her mouth, she regretted the tone. She hadn’t meant that to sound so….cheerful, but it did, and Hiro seized on it.
“I do!”
“Hey. C...careful. You’ll throw off our balance.”
The Strelizia took a step forward, then two. The docking bay doors opened.
“You ever skydive?”
“Um. No, I haven’t.”
“Well you’re about to!”
Wind rushed into the docking bay. By this point, APE staff were already scrambling and running about, trying to stop the Strelizia from leaving. The whipping wind blowing in from the opening doors did not help matters, and more than one technician lost their favorite coat or hat as it blew out the open doors. With a running start, the Strelizia jumped, flying into the wild blue.
--
The ground was mere moments away. She could feel Hiro starting to panic, and pulled him closer. They were squeezed up against each other now, as the Strelizia rocketed through the sky, ground-bound like a white and red bolt of lightning. She could feel him calming down, his breathing slowing and becoming more regular while outside, in sharp contrast, the ring of thrusters that made up the “skirt” of the mecha around its waist kicked to life, spitting out white-hot flames that blasted against the ground, the cracked earth tossing out huge clouds of dust and grit.
The Strelizia landed with an unsteady thump, down on one knee, then standing back up and shaking off the aftershock. She could feel him now. This was...strange, Hiro was very, very far from the first pilot she’d had. He was her 21st, actually, by her count. But somehow this was….different, their thoughts seemed to mix so easily. She couldn’t place it, it made her nervous, and not much made Zero Two nervous.
....Certainly not the small, four-legged black and blue creature now scurrying among the dried mud at the Strelizia’s feet.
A klaxosaur. A small one. By itself? That seemed wrong.
It was wrong.
The creature opened its mouth and let out a long braying howl, its jaw flapping open and the blue lines along its body going from sapphire to neon. More crawled out. They were hiding, either underground or among the nearby rocks. It didn’t take more than a few moments for there to be dozens of them.
Inside the Strelizia, Zero Two ran a hand through Hiro’s hair. He seemed-
“Are you scared?” She asked.
“A little.” He replied, maybe figuring that this close to each other, there was no reason to lie.
“I’ll fight them.”
“By yourself? How?”
With both of their eyes closed, Hiro couldn’t see Zero Two crack a sly smile. “Just watch, darling.”
Something moved. The cockpit felt like it was rearranging, getting smaller and more cramped. There was a sound like an electric pulse, a tsche-chu-chu-chu-tsche. Collapsing in on itself and rearranging like a Rubik’s Cube, the Strelizia shrunk from a titanic humanoid into the form of a lean mechanical lion. It growled. Zero Two growled. The mech’s tail extended, flicking to and fro like that of a cat about to pounce on its prey, but weighed with the heavy tip of the lance. She pounced, leaping into the air just long enough for the unlucky wolflike klaxosaur to watch the 30 tons of metal go from having its back against the sun to being directly on top of it.
She dug her claws into the now-helpless creature, raking it across its flank. Klaxosaur flesh was a strange substance, Zero Two’d always thought it kind of felt like rubber. Not that she had much time to ponder the thought. The rest of the klaxo-wolf pack was on her near-instantly, two came from her left side, one from the front, three from the right, two from behind. Now things were getting fun.
That last problem was solved in seconds by a quick swipe of the tail, the lance was heavy and the magma energy infusion rendered it red hot, the pair of klaxo-wolves behind her were bashed aside and burnt by the impact. Next, dropping to the ground and rolling under made the two from the left side smack dead into the three from the right, giving her enough time to come at the one gunning from her head from below. She stretched the jaws of the Strelizia wide, and took a bite out of the front klaxo-wolf. Her mouth filled with a taste like lighter fluid and burnt rubber as the creature keeled over, letting out a pathetic whimper of pain.
She didn’t have time to kill the other five. The dull bree-yew sound of magma energy cannons rang out from behind her. A trio of Franxen mechs, steely black, and, really, utterly plain, stood with their weapons raised. Slowly, methodically, they shot up enough of the klaxo-wolves for the creatures to start falling back. No viscerality, no thrill, just clean, sustained fire.
There was a small burst of static, and then, open comms.
“Strelizia, this is Units 4-6 of Squad 311, do you copy?”
Tch.
“We copy.” She replied, trying to quench the agitation rising in her throat.
“We’ve been sent to retrieve you and take you back to Plan--”
“Yeah, I’m sure you have.” The Strelizia shifted back into its humanoid mode, reconfiguring in an instant. “Take us back, but we’re off-com.” Zero Two couldn’t actually turn off the comms in the Strelizia--no Franxx used by the APE army could without authorization from its associated base, in fact--but she knew her reputation well enough to know that if she told a bunch of grunts to piss off, they probably would.
“We’re gonna get a talking-to, aren’t we?” Hiro spoke for the first time in what felt like hours.
“Probably. They won’t actually do anything, though.”
“How do you know that?”
She scoffed. “Trust me, if they won’t do anything to me, they won’t do anything to anybody.”
The bodies of the klaxo-wolves painted the grey-brown dirt a neon blue as the Strelizia and its three escorts activated their thrusters to return to the plantation. The smell of charred plastic filled the air.

there are spoilers here for DRV3 again, so if you’re on mobile, you have been warned
I think the games Kokichi is referencing (the one where you have to stand on a burning plate and apologize and the one where you have to cross a steel beam between buildings) are all references to Kaiji! It...gets really intense with gambling, games and punishment... The underwear thing started as early as the first DR and it's a staple of the series at this point. It's weird.
Oh! I’ve heard of Kaiji! I’ve never read it, but I know it’s about gambling. That’s really interesting. o:
Was it really in the first game? I guess I must have forgotten about it since I read the LP forever ago... once I’m done with this game I might just go back and actually play the first two games so I can remember things about them better.
!!! That specific moment also made me realize that I liked Kokichi maybe too much. And he walked away while wobbling...from blood loss...still smiling and joking and lying about stuff... He's a disaster. Speaking of VA's the small principal from that game about blood and zombie-vampires really reminded me of Kokichi! But I don't remember if he was voiced by Shimono Hiro or not. I mostly know him for Syo in UtaPri...who is also a short character...hm.
He is a disaster, you’re right. That moment probably makes a lot of people realize how they feel about him if they don’t already know, whether they like him or not.
Ooh, Iori? His VA is Matsuoka Yoshitsugu, but I can see why he’d remind you of Kokichi! They’re both impish little disaster guys, haha. Shimono Hiro’s voice is kind of boyish, so maybe that’s why he voices so many shorter characters...? He was a really cute and socially awkward tiny ninja in another game I played, too. (Who was working for the enemy until he became friends with the protagonist. And then he got taller in his route...)
Also this whole trial was bullshit and the motive made me go :/ I wish they did something more interesting with Korekiyo, because oh yeah he looks like serial killer and he is. Just because he's like that. Not related to anything that's happening. Meh.
I can understand that feeling! I kind of wish I’d spent some time with Korekiyo before the trial, because I really didn’t get to know much about him before he died.

Dino Watches Anime (Dec 31)
I haven’t done one of these in over a month, and I wanted to try to get this out before the year ends! It’s still 2019 here. Here are some anime I’ve been watching recently and what I thought of them.
Recently Completed
Dr Stone
This anime turned out so well!
I was hesitant at first. The character cast lacked a bit of diversity. I thought they were relying on the main character too much, but then I realized that that wasn’t necessarily a problem. Nobody will ever be as smart as this main character, and that’s okay. Everyone in this anime still plays a purpose, and even though that really showed more in the last episodes of the show, I think we’re in for a treat next season (that and I keep hearing that from my brother, thanks Kuya). The OPs and EDs were a lot of fun to listen to, the art was really good, the OST wasn’t the most memorable but I appreciated its service, and the casting was great! I don’t think I would stand for anyone else playing Senkuu at this point. Yuusuke Kobayashi has really proven how good of a seiyuu he is in recent years. He joined a little later in life and was more apparent in other types of work. Dr. Stone was a great anime, and even though it’s not even my favourite Shonen Jump series of this year (*cough* Kimetsu no Yaiba had a way stronger impact) it’s still worth the watch.
I rated this a 9/10 on MAL
Tumblr media
Gamers!
You know how practically every romance anime has miscommunications which “add” to the plot? Now imagine that was an anime and that’s the only thing going on. That’s what “Gamers!” is, and it’s hilarious. I think I saw a YouTube comment that perfectly summed this up.
“This anime is great but it makes me want to bang my head against a wall”
It’s pretty much that! It’s hilarious in its writing, and even though it isn’t really about gaming, it showcases different types of gamers. We have a former gamer, a guy who’s terrible but plays to have fun, a hardcore gamer, an indie developer, and one person who doesn’t even like games! They make the cast really funny and inconvenient, and the seiyuu performances add to the hilarity. Seriously, this quickly became one of my favourite Toshiyuki Toyonaga roles. I think his best works come in the form of romances? Yuri on Ice, Zetsuen on Tempest, to a lesser extent Durarara, Gamers? It’s like he has experience with romance (he has a daughter and is married). Seriously, I almost want to make a post just dedicated to this anime. It has such a low rating on MAL because it is so cheesy, cliche, and it does sometimes drive you up the wall, but isn’t that all romance anime? I was okay watching socially inept people because I am socially inept.
Episode 2 came out of nowhere with it’s cliche yet fitting dialogue.
I rated this a 9/10 because I enjoyed it so much and it was the anime I needed at the time. I can definitely see why people wouldn’t watch it though.
Tumblr media
Irozuku Sekai no Ashita kara
I went to the other side of the romance spectrum and went with a rom-drama instead of a rom-com like Gamers! And... I feel like I enjoyed Gamers! far more. Irozuku was a bit mean to colour-blind people if I’m completely honest. The characters were flat and uninteresting, but they began to get personality in... episode 8 or something? Also, being colour-blind isn’t as big of a deal as this anime makes it seem. They were so fast to say a girl was from the future but wanted to keep it a secret that she’s colour-blind? She also has no personality because she’s colour-blind? In fact, her personality is that she’s colour-blind? Did I mention she’s colour-blind? Anyway, the ending was conclusive but still left some unfinished ends. P.A. Works made this anime beautiful, I really like the OP and ED, but I ironically didn’t like the casting for this. I give praise to almost every anime for casting, but this anime couldn’t sell me on Kaori Ishihara (who is actually part of Magi which I keep commending for having one of my favourite casts) and Shoya Chiba (who was good in Dororo). The chemistry between the characters and cast didn’t work for me on this one which was sad because the ending would’ve made more of an impact if they’d gotten me more attached. The OST was also amazing so I thought I would add that. Besides that, it was a good premise (with pretty good execution), great art, an amazing OST, beautiful OPs and EDs, but subpar characters.
Tumblr media
Asobi Asobase
At the time, Konomi Kohara, Hina Kino, and Rika Nagae didn’t really have that many roles outside of a few (well, Kohara had Tsuki ga Kirei but this really cemented her talent). This anime’s art style threw me in for a loop, and even though the humour didn’t always hit, this anime made me laugh at some points. It was vulgar, full of humour, and I’m really surprised Kino is still alive after screeching a lot. Seriously, that’s a lot. The ED is just them screeching too! Random appearances from big seiyuu are also present, and the animation by Lerche is all over the place. It sheds every essence of the innocence you thought it was going to have in ep 1 and keeps the pace going throughout.
I rated this anime a 7/10 because when humour doesn’t hit for me, it bores me.
Tumblr media
Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon
I actually didn’t enjoy Dragon Maid as much as I thought I would. That’s partially because of Quetzalcoatl. I’m sorry, but everything else besides her and a few questionable things (especially the OVA) was alright. The animation was beautiful (KyoAni is soooo good, please do the second season!!!)
The OP and ED were really catchy. I don’t think those songs will be leaving my head anytime soon. At its core, this anime was still heartwarming. The romance between the main two is one-sided but sweet. Kanna is such a cute kid, and Fafnir and Takiya are also funny. I gave this anime a 7/10 because it was still solid, just overhyped.
Tumblr media
Africa no Salaryman
This is mostly the same from the last time I reviewed Salaryman so if you read my past one, just skip this.
The story for this anime is mediocre, the animation is really bad, the music is poor, and it was still a fun anime. It’s one of those terrible anime that you end up kind of liking. Have you ever wanted to see a mix of bad CG and limited 2D animation by a studio that has no other notable anime (besides a flop from 2018)? Have you ever wanted to hear the villains of BNHA (All For One, Overhaul, and Dabi) voicing weird safari animals with quirky side characters? Seriously, they took the money that they should’ve put into animation and hired a bunch of famous seiyuu who seem to be having fun. We have Eri Kitamura, Yui Ogura, Akio Otsuka, Kenjiro Tsuda, Hiro Shimono, Toshiyuki Toyonaga, Kengo Kawanishi, Akira Ishida, Hiroshi Kamiya, Tatsuhisa Suzuki, etc. It’s a lot of fun guessing them. Overall, this anime was pretty average. I wouldn’t recommend it unless they intended to watch the seiyuu (which is the only thing really going here)
And the ending itself wasn’t eventful either so I gave this anime a 5/10.
Tumblr media
Ani ni Tsukeru Kusuri wa Nai! 3
This is mostly the same from the last time I reviewed this so if you read my past one, just skip this.
Another (slightly better animated) bad anime. It’s a collab between Japanese and Chinese studios (but is originally Chinese), but since Japanese dubbing is far more accessible, I went with that dub. Sora Amamiya, Yuuichi Nakamura, Kensho Ono, and Natsuki Hanae are part of the main cast here. Nothing is really notable besides the story. The sibling thing is kind of relatable. This anime ended recently, and it ended on a good note. The quality didn’t go down, and it kept more of the sibling and stupid antics from the first season. I liked that. I rated this a 7/10 because the art isn’t as clean as most anime, and some of the humour missed.
Tumblr media
Bokutachi wa Benkyou ga Dekinai!
This is mostly the same from the last time I reviewed this so if you read my past one, just skip this.
However, I added some stuff regarding the ending of this season.
I will eventually stop wasting my time with these bad romance series, but *cough* I need to fill my depressive void with something, and somehow other’s awkward situations distract me from my own. I mean, this feels like an anime that was supposed to fill the void that Nisekoi left after finishing in Shonen Jump. Hopefully, this time he’ll end up with the right girl. As usual in a lot of harems, the main character has several bad choices. But the overall message and whatever’s left of the plot is really nice and entertaining. The characters are actually intriguing when the fanservice isn’t glaring in your face. I hated how they ended this season. I get they didn’t want to make another season, but stretching an anime-only ending? That just sucks. They were going so well until the last few minutes too. The school festival arc was really nice and sweet. Overall, I still liked the second season. Minus the ending, it was just as strong, if not stronger, than the first. Together with the school festival and Furuhashi’s development, I really enjoyed this. I rated this an 8/10 (but it’s a higher 8 and was only hurt by the ending)
Tumblr media
Ore wo Suki nano wa Omae dake ka yo
This is mostly the same from the last time I reviewed this so if you read my past one, just skip this.
However, I added some stuff regarding the ending of this season.
Everyone in this anime is a scumbag in one way or another. Everyone has their bad sides, and unlike a lot of series, this anime isn’t afraid to put them front in centre. This contrasts nicely with Bokuben which is mentioned above. Both are centred around harems, but this one is everything turned on its head with vengeance. Protag? May have a Deku voice, but he’s a pervert that’s described for being “Jekyll and Mr Hyde” which I find interesting because he’s truly nice to his best friend and doesn’t want to betray him, but he also really, really, really likes girls and would want nothing more than to have several of them all to himself. Best friend? Jealous as heck and would probably stab him if things truly went south, but he’s also his wingman. Class president? Talks like a samurai sometimes when nervous and uses MC. Childhood best friend? Terrible liar and uses MC. Then there’s a whole bunch of other people who use everyone. The score is not that great. It’s better than silence, but it hasn’t really been anything above that. The OP is catchy, but I’m not sure if I like it? The ED is nice. The voice acting for this anime is PERFECT for the MC anyway. Daiki Yamashita is really good at acting like this animal of an MC.
I didn’t really feel satisfied with the ending of this season. It wasn’t as funny, and they relied too much on the 4th wall to make the last episode funny. It lacked the hijinks and chaos of the first episodes, and even though it kept character development and stuff throughout, this is the one time I wanted them to end on a less obvious note. I rated it an 8/10
Tumblr media
Enen no Shouboutai
Okay, so they began picking up their act within the last few episodes and it shows, but that doesn’t mean everything in-between was saved because it wasn’t. After episode 2, this show plummets and doesn’t pick up in quality until episode 19 or something. To me, that makes this show not worth it. I almost want to make a post about the rise, fall, and slight rise of this anime.
The animation production is amazing, the first OP and the EDs are awesome (couldn’t say that the second OP lived up but it wasn’t bad), the voice acting was alright at most points (can’t say I’m a fan of hearing Asta), but the story went off the rails and was executed poorly during the majority of the series.
I gave this a 6/10. Maaya Sakamoto’s character tried to save the day, but Maki also saved it the best she could.
Tumblr media
Kono Oto Tomare! 2nd Season
This went so slow and the manga’s art is so beautiful that the anime looks like a sad outline, but I really liked this overall. Just for hearing their performance, it was all worth it. Trust me, the sound makes it worth it, but if you like visuals, read the manga. The voice acting is good for establishing what you can imagine the character voices add, but the art in the manga is too pretty to pass up.
Tumblr media
Sankarea
I just finished this today! I originally dropped it because of its uncomfortable content but picked it back up because Maaya Uchida’s birthday just passed and I wanted a bit more horror before we roll on into 2020. Was this the way to do it? I mean, the horror is very light so that’s good. I can sleep at night. Quality-wise? Hmm... Along with the special episodes 13, 14, and 0! Honestly, these last two anime are ecchi. I don’t know how I got here.
The story is a pretty cool concept. Imagine the idea of a story surrounding a guy (zombie-obsessed or not) helping this girl fulfill her lifelong dreams of being normal even though she’s an undead zombie. Slowly as time passes, her flesh begins to rot so he realizes he has to work faster to complete her wishes to make her life seem “normal”. Taking her to the park, shopping, walking her to school, this seems like a good set-up! If only it went that way.
The story was okay, but I found this anime was going a bit on the ridiculous side. It got cartoony at times, and the characters were a bit cringy at times. Characters in this series ship this character with the MC who certainly isn’t keeping a zombie girl around for no reason. Well, anyway, this girl that the characters keep shipping him with... is his cousin. And Sanka Rea’s dad... is a very uncomfortable character as well. Overall, these two elements are actually what made this anime extremely uncomfortable at times.
I liked the art for this despite all the ecchi. I liked the quirky character designs of our main two characters. Some of the head tilts from Studio Deen almost felt Shaft-esque. It was not that bad!
Umm... I never actually paid attention to the OP, ED, or OST because I was too busy skipping the ecchi. Maaya Uchida was a really cute zombie that made me really like Rea more than I would towards regular zombies (except for maybe the ones from Zombieland Saga). Ryohei Kimura was a pretty good zombie otaku. That’s about it for this one. I gave it a 5/10.
Tumblr media
Junketsu no Maria
Another ecchi anime! They didn’t even categorize it as such, but the site I watched it on did. Seriously, I don’t know how MAL didn’t process this as one. Anime that criticize wars and the Catholic church (even fictionally) make me feel a little uncomfortable, but I pushed through this one because... actually, I have no idea why. I was depressed that day and needed some picking up through cheesy predictable anime.
Umm... the art was alright, the music was alright, the story was a little cringy at times, and the characters were pretty flat. They gave too much time explaining how some of these characters were virgins to the point where it just got annoying. Kensho Ono and Hisako Kanemoto were good in this anime (despite playing flat characters), Sakurai plays another insane villain, Yoko Hikasa plays another seductive character, and Mikako Komatsu plays another “male” character. I gave this anime a 5/10.
Tumblr media
Dropped/On-Hold
Aku no Hana
WHERE DO I START WITH THIS ONE?! THIS ANIME WAS SCARY. THERE WERE NO DEMONS, NO SUPERNATURAL, ONLY HUMAN BEINGS.
Fun fact: I did not read the synopsis before heading in. I saw the poster and thought, “wow cool! let’s try this! middle-schoolers! what’s the worst that can happen?”
Okay, so I had to remind myself every two minutes that these kids are MIDDLE-SCHOOLERS?! Middle-schoolers? Ugh, I don’t know why?! What’s going on here? I know this is supposed to be a psychological anime, and it does its job seriously well. I was scared. I was genuinely scared. Everything in this anime added to the scariness. Read the synopsis, come back, and realize that I’ve made a mistake. I watched 3 episodes. As a person on the asexual spectrum, I don’t know what this anime is trying to get at. The art adds to the psychological effect. The characters are really messed up. The OP and ED add to this insanity. Aku no Hana lives up to the name (Flowers of Evil). I felt so disgusted. This anime showed an ugly part of humanity that made me want to take a shower, and that’s very out of character.
Just watch a trailer, the OP, and the ED. It gives me the creeps.
Tumblr media
Senjou no Valkyria
I didn’t find this interesting. Maybe I’ll pick it back up. The art seems pale and soulless. The voice acting wasn’t enough to draw me in, and the characters weren’t that great. Honestly, this is probably going to be better than Junketsu no Maria, but timing is important.
Tumblr media
Seikai no Monshou
1999 art probably hurts this too, but the same reasoning as above. This anime seems genuinely interesting, but I think I started it at the wrong time.
Tumblr media
Watching
Hanasaku Iroha
Hmm... this anime annoys me, but I really want to finish it!!!
This anime is about a girl who learned that she can rely on no one from a young age. She starts doing household chores and cooking at age 4. At her last year of middle school, her mom runs with her fiance and leaves her behind to go live with her grandma, and her grandma doesn’t like her. Keep in mind, this grandma is her maternal one. That woman who just dropped her daughter to run away... is her daughter. Ms. Grandma believes her daughter is a failure and projects these views on her daughter because “she raised you”. She forces her own granddaughter to work for her inn with no special treatment. At every single turn, you get introduced to characters you’d rather not. Every character is an absolute ass to the main character, and she keeps chasing, but I would rather see her refuse? Characters are straight-up telling her to die, telling her that she’s not doing everything she can, and kidnapping her. Seriously, someone in this series kidnaps her, ties her up, and sexualizes her and her coworkers. How does the grandma react? She says that they must respect the customer’s orders. ARE YOU F-- this anime has a really high review on MAL so I want to believe there’s good coming but it’s really rough so far.
Tumblr media
Darker than Black: Kuro no Keiyakusha
This anime is looking up! It has an interesting concept, and the execution has been mediocre so far! The OST is cool, and the characters have interesting designs and powers. I don’t want to say too much on this because I want to wait till the end!
Tumblr media
Boku no Hero Academia 4th Season
No words for this one. I’m just going to wait until the season is over. It’s been slow so far, but I have hope.

DR4 RELATIONSHIP CHART: YUZURU
Asuka: “He comes off as really intense... I can’t tell if he likes me or not.”
Shinto: “He’s a consummate loner. If Hiro and Tsubomi hadn’t made themselves his friends, he probably wouldn’t have any at all.”
Chizu: “Sure, he’s a scowly grouch, but I think he has a thiiiiing for Aaaaasukaaaaa! ♪”
Hirohito: “A TRUE HERO!! ...One day! If only he would accept his destiny! But never you fret--that’s why I’M here to train him!!”
Namie: “He’s surprisingly feminist for someone from such a traditional family.”
Yoh: “It’s reassuring to have someone around who doesn’t mind silence.”
Tsubomi: “He might come off unfriendly at first, but he’s a good man! You just gotta peel back some o’ them onion-layers first!”
Larry: “Yo, dude, would it, like, kill you to smile sometimes? Cheer up!”
Keigo: “Kinda up his own ass. Guess those old-school families are just like that, though.”
Shu: “H-he’s, um, really intimidating... but in a cool way... if, um, that makes sense?”
Daichi: “A needlessly sour man. I don’t understand what his problem with me is, but as long as he keeps it to himself, I don’t care.”
Kirara: “At first he may seem cold, but I find he’s more awkward and socially unsure. I hope he can learn to open up.”
Otome: “For someone who speaks so bluntly and fights so viciously, I get the strange feeling that he’s always holding back.”
Mayoi: “Mmmm, he is good-looking in just the way I like... but Hinayo’s smitten with him, so he’s off-limits.”
Hinayo: “SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! ♥ ♥ ♥”
Emiri: “Such a gentleman, and an unparalleled archer as well...! I shall never forget the day he saved my beloved Hinayo and me from grave peril!”
Monokuma: “Puhuhu... Didn’t your mom and dad ever tell you if you keep making that face, it’ll freeze that way, Mr. Aozora?”

two questions eating me from the inside after reading your blog for about a month! (yeah im pretty new). 1. what is this thing about Hiro getting bullied and his hardships upto this stage? 2. i'd be very grateful if u could tell me the reason why Kid'z changed his name? in both the cases i want to know, what exactly happened??
Hi,
I'm aware that there are new fans who read my blog but I'm not sure how far that you guys dig up from it because, at this point, there are many blog posts. You guys probably haven't read all of them. So, I can understand if some things appear blurry.
1. Hiro & cyber bullying
I actually touched on this on my very 1st blog post here.
http://japanessie.tumblr.com/post/111920492632/championing-hiro
(*Caution: 1 person labelled me rude and offensive on FB for criticizing Hiro's vocals in that post. I guess to some people, supporting means you can't give your honest opinion to the person you support.)
Coming from a famous family has its pros and cons. Sadly, even though the majority of MFS fans come from OOR fandom, so do the haters. Both Japanese and international fans.
Reasons for the hate based on what I went through on 2ch Japan:
1. They assumed that MFS was handed to Hiro on a silver platter and all paid for by Papa's money.
2. They compared it to how Taka struggle through hardship to get to where he is today. They felt things were too easy for Hiro and MFS. While many bands including OOR had to start on small stages in small clubs, MFS who started in August 2011 was already on Summer Sonic* stage in 2012.
Tumblr media
* Of course these haters were oblivious to the fact that MFS team core GEN and KTR were hardworking industry veterans who were no strangers to the festival organizers.
All the posts on the forum were anonymous. They used very very strong words and graphics to throw the worst insults imaginable to Hiro, MFS and even his parents. Sorry, I'm not going to go into details because it was too awful for me.
Taka fanatics
Not everyone who flocked to Hiro's social media was interested in MFS. They were just Taka's fans who stalked his baby brother because Taka didn't have a public social media account at the time. By the time Hiro quit Twitter, his followers exceeded MFS followers by >2000 pax.
It seems to me that people took advantage of Hiro's online presence to direct their insults to him or to be nosy about Taka's personal life because among Hiro's last tweets was this: “I started blocking fucked up people!".
I will never know how bad it was but it was enough to make him decide to quit public social media.
2. Why Kid'z changed to a stage name
He was worried about fans' acceptance. He understood the music industry well enough to know that some fans can react very negatively to changes in bands' personnel. Nobody wanted to be looked upon as the guy who “stole" Masaki's place. Especially with a small number of fans knowing him from his old band.
Masaki's decision to leave the band was a big secret that the fans didn't know. Kid'z was not in a position where he was able to tell the world about it and that he had nothing to do with Masaki's decision. It's not like he needed the job in MFS. He was in Nano's band. Still, it was disappointing to Masaki's fans. From the outside, it didn't look pretty. It was as if, “Oh, so MFS replaced Masaki with that LOTH drummer, huh!"
Not to mention that it was a pretty awkward situation considering Kid'z's own band LOTH just freshly split up at the time. LOTH disbanded officially in November 2015. I noticed he dropped LOTH name from his Twitter handle at the time.
Anyway, I believe Sho had kept his eyes on Kid'z when Masaki decided to leave. Hiro said in an interview (I forgot which one) that Masaki already hinted to leave since 2015.
I remember how strange to me to see Sho and Kid'z at SAKAEYA in January 2016 because Kid'z normally hung out with the younger MFS members Teruki and Hiro.
Tumblr media
Then I saw him again at SAKAEYA with Nob in February 2016. I still thought it was a bit strange, “Since when has he been hanging out with the older MFS members?".
Tumblr media
As it turned out, they were recruiting him!
Kid'z only started to come out of “hiding" after MFS released The Puzzle MV and then Missing You. Fans were impressed by his drumming and gave positive feedback. People started to post nice messages for him on social media. Particularly prominent on IG. With his positive attitude and fun personality, he won hearts quickly. Having a pretty face didn't hurt either XD
When he was asked on his birthday what was the most surprising thing to him in MFS, he answered, “The kindness of the fans!"
So, he's a happy camper now! (^^)

Always a Black Fox, Never a Bride: Part 3 | Mamoru/Aiko fic
Read Part 1 and Part 2!
@letstalklikefangirls @josiesparklelove
Part 3: Mission: Implausible
“Aiko, we got your message! What on earth were you thinking--“
Lord Ootori flung open the door to the Villa Altaria sitting room, his furious outburst immediately dying away as he saw not just his daughter and her friends, but Prince Roberto himself calmly partaking in a light afternoon tea.
“Your Highness, Lord Ootori has arrived,” Alberto announced belatedly as he stepped into the room behind the now-flustered nobleman.
Roberto took a sip of his tea, then looked up as if he’d only just noticed the sudden entrance. “Ah, Lord Ootori. Thank you for coming here on such short notice.”
He bowed, obviously struggling to regain his composure. “O-of course, Your Highness. I was just confused when my daughter called so suddenly, after, er…”
“Naturally, and I do apologize for the trouble I caused by calling her away like that.”
Roberto’s brow furrowed in regret, and Lord Ootori blinked. “I beg your pardon, Your Highness?”
“Oh, yes, of course you wouldn’t know. After all, Lady Aiko, Detective Kishi, and his team were all tasked with keeping their mission an utmost secret. That is the reason I called you here.” Roberto paused, then put on a dazzling smile. “But where are my manners? Do have a seat, Lord Ootori. Your wife isn’t with you?”
“Ah, no, she had to stay behind to deal with… things…”
“Here, Father.” Aiko patted the arm of the chair next to her, smiling at him as if he had never made any unreasonably insensitive demands of her in her life. He slowly sank into the seat, staring around in confusion.
“What were you saying about Detective Kishi… and his team?” Lord Ootori’s gaze finally settled on the group of men seated opposite him who were handling fine porcelain tea cups with varying levels of grace. “Y-you don’t mean…”
“As you must have heard, the Black Foxes have been a scourge on the art community lately,” Roberto said smoothly. “They have taken to stealing many artworks from nobility in particular. It was starting to get a bit out of hand, and so I felt it prudent to step in and ensure the situation was resolved. Detective Kishi’s investigative skills came highly recommended by none other than Lady Leah, here.”
He nodded at Leah, who bowed her own head towards him with a dignified smile. Lord Ootori’s eyebrows shot up a hair. “Lady Leah?”
“I do not blame you for your surprise, Lord Ootori. My family’s noble status is not nearly as esteemed as yours, and so we do not often go by our titles.” She gave a delicate, harmless laugh. “However, I still felt it was my honorable duty to aid my fellow nobles however I could.”
“And so,” Roberto continued, “Detective Kishi agreed to aid in the investigation. It was his suggestion that we attempt to oust the Black Foxes by besting them at their own game… Namely, by setting up the detective’s team as decoy Black Foxes.”
“Father, I’m so sorry I couldn’t tell you about any of this,” Aiko said contritely. “Leah and I were also working as part of Detective Kishi’s team. We were the decoy nobles to the decoy Black Foxes, so to speak. You weren’t supposed to find out… but you did, and now you’re involved, too.”
Lord Ootori’s eyes widened, and Roberto spoke up again. “You discovered the identities of the decoy Black Foxes on your own, and thus you now know of our plans to bring the real Black Foxes to justice. As such, this makes you a comrade in arms, but also places you in potential danger should the real Black Foxes discover your involvement, however recent it may be. They may try to exact some sort of vengeance on you for attempting to interfere with their criminal dealings.”
“But then, what about my daughter… and her wedding?”
“I let it go too far,” Aiko confessed. “I didn’t want to tell you and endanger you even more, but eventually we all agreed that it was better for you to be told the truth and be placed under protection for a time.”
“My schedule has been terribly busy as of late; I’m sure you understand,” Roberto said with a wry smile. “This afternoon was one of the few convenient times I could meet with your daughter and the rest of the team all together, and you as well, Lord Ootori.”
“Can you forgive me for hiding this from you, Father?” Aiko pleaded.
“I-I… of course, my dear. But the wedding…”
“If I can’t bear to see you put in danger, then how could I put any husband of mine through the same thing? We’ll have to call it off.”
“A wise choice. It’s for everyone’s safety.” Roberto nodded gravely.
Lord Ootori could only nod in return.
***
It wasn’t long before Alberto was escorting Lord Ootori from the room to begin ‘making arrangements’ for his ‘protection.’ As soon as the door shut behind them, Roberto slumped in his seat like a marionette with its strings cut.
“Whew! Am I glad that’s over,” he groaned, tugging at the stiff collar of his royal uniform. “Can’t believe he really bought that…”
“Whether or not he actually bought it, he can’t exactly say no to a prince,” Leah said jokingly.
He grinned over at her. “True! I know I cut such a regal and intimidating figure.”
He made a show of running a hand through his hair, causing Leah to giggle.
Boss set down the tea cup he’d been taking delicate sips from and grinned at Aiko. “Well, looks like we’re all clear.”
“You’re a free woman now,” Riki added, a satisfied smile on his face.
“I’m so happy for you, Ai-chan!” Hiro hurled himself at her, nearly knocking her own tea cup out of her hands.
Kenshi slapped his knee as if he’d just had a brilliant thought. “Hey, you know what this calls for?”
“PARTY!” Hiro jumped up from hugging Aiko as if from sheer excitement (and not because Josie was glaring daggers at him).
“You guys just want an excuse to drink.” Takuto snorted.
“I’ll call in pizza,” Roberto offered cheerfully.
“What? No! You can’t call it a party without pork noodles!” Takuto flushed as everyone looked at him, then muttered, “…I want pepperoni.”
Aiko sighed. “I really appreciate everything you guys did for me, but I’m actually kind of tired now. No party for me tonight.”
Josie nodded sympathetically. “There was a lot of drama today. It’s no wonder you’re beat.”
“A lot of drama?” Aiko deadpanned. “Do tell. I can’t even begin to imagine whose fault that might be.”
“Why, it’s Leah’s, of course,” Josie said brightly.
Leah let out an indignant squawk.
“Because you shot down my original plan of calling in the Altarian Secret Service to bust Aiko out of there.”
“I told you, that’s not what they’re for!”
Everyone laughed good-naturedly as Leah buried her face in her hands in mock-exasperation.
Aiko turned to Roberto and bowed slightly. “Before I forget, thank you, Your Highness. You really helped me out. I--”
He pouted and waved at her to sit back up. “Come on, didn’t you agree to just call me ‘Roberto’ ages ago? If you don’t stop getting all formal with me right now, I’ll call you ‘Ai-chan’ for the rest of your life like Hiro here.”
She laughed. “Sorry, Roberto. Just… a lot happened, so really, thanks.”
He finally grinned back at her. “Anything for a friend! Besides, I’d hate for someone else’s love life to be ruined because of pointless social politics.”
Though he was still smiling, his cheer suddenly seemed dampened, even to Mamoru. And it didn’t take him being a detective to see the look of pain that flashed across Leah’s face.
Roberto acted like he didn’t notice the awkward atmosphere that had descended. “Anyway, back to the more important topic here… Pizza toppings! Takkun wanted pepperoni, right?”
Aiko stood. “I guess I’ll get going before I fall asleep in this fancy chair,” she joked.
“I’ll go with you,” Leah burst out quickly, leaping up to join her.
Roberto’s smile fell a little. “You’re not staying?”
“No, uh, I want to make sure Aiko gets home okay after all that’s happened.”
“Are you sure, Leah?” Aiko’s glance between her friend and the prince was barely perceptible—but again, Mamoru was not a detective for nothing.
“Of course! Didn’t you say you were exhausted?”
She finally nodded. “Yeah, you’re right. Josie’s coming too, so… how about a sleepover? We can talk about…” Another glance. “…girl stuff.”
Josie raised an eyebrow. “I’m coming too, am I?”
“Aren’t you?”
“…Okay, yeah I am, but still, it’s common courtesy to ask.”
“Sorry.” Aiko did not look especially apologetic as the three women made their way to the door. She looked back at Mamoru. “You coming?”
“Huh?”
“You’re kind of our ride,” Josie informed him.
“Since when?”
“Well, you were our ride over here.”
“Thanks, Mamoru!” Leah chirped.
Looking at the three expectant faces before him, especially Aiko’s, he finally grunted and rose to his feet. “Damn, whatta pain.”

“I just can’t do this anymore”
I still feel those words shatter through my spine and shake the earth, they spin me around because the whiskey was wearing off. I guess I should start with the beginning.
“Do you think #$@^ is cute?”
I was annoyed hearing that question. “I mean yeah, but he probably has a girlfriend” “yeah I think they do. All of the girls are obsessing over him.” I sat and watched the computer not giving the conversation any of my eye contact. The last time I liked someone people obsessed over I ended up winning to my surprise and then let down. But that story will come later.
“What kind of dog is that?”
Four months later you DM-ed me this. Although I obsess over it, I hate social media. I had started using it obsessively over the past week once we started following each other. I was casting bait hoping you would say something, anything. Earlier that day I said to the sky “I want #$@^” and the sky answered back. We stayed up until 1am sending silly jokes and entertaining the idea of us until you finally asked for coffee. I said yes and went to bed. I really like this one, I thought to myself.
“I hate spiders”
We had just run across the freeway at my own demand. It was a mix of the coffee and drank to fast and my way to stall, to see how long I could make this date last. I had just been on set for 9 hours but there was no time to waste not being with you. I felt like I needed to convince you that I was the girl you wanted. Maybe I was, and maybe I even still am. We walked across campus until the sky went dark. We sat in the stairwell while I waited for you to kiss me. We flossed in my dorm room together after we got pizza. I got chicken in my teeth, you had spinach in yours. You left in a hurry but messaged me that night with a nervous apology and a cautious “”
“Confession, I don’t have anything to study for”
Two days had passed since I last saw you. I was sad and annoyed waiting for you to make plans with me. So instead I asked you and then put my phone away for a 3-hour lecture. I needed to write a paper about technology and it was nice outside. I slept on the staircase outside the museum waiting for you to show up until you peered at me, scaring the shit out of me. We sat by the flowers, they had just started to bloom. They were baby blue. You made fun of how I typed and we ran to the newspaper while I shoved my camera bag into your hands. That afternoon became that night, and we watched a nature documentary at your apartment. I wasn’t sure how it was supposed to be. You put your arm around me and suddenly all the questions I had before were answered. I felt right. This was a normal relationship. You walked me home and held my hand. We kissed in front of my dorm entrance which made me nervous that someone would see so it was more I dodged what should have been our first kiss. I walked into my dorm and screamed into my pillow feeling embarrassed and happy and excited.
“That was better than the last time”
You remarked after I grabbed your face and kissed you. Fuck. That means he was just as aware of how awful our first kiss was as I was. Beforehand we had sat on a bench together and I kept looking at your direction, to send you a signal from a satellite in my mind. Kiss me for real this time, I thought. You said, “girls and eye contact makes me nervous”. We walked by the sculpture and I kept stopping so you could kiss me. You kept walking and I told you to stop being weird. I could that made you feel defeated and that you would never get the hint so I went for it. “that was very uncharacteristic of me” I warned you. You kept persuading me to hang out with you that night instead of walking me to my friends. Instead, you settled for a goodbye kiss in front of Hiro 88. I messaged you all night because I would have rather been with you. I hated being vulnerable. I hated it when people knew just how much I liked them. Fuck. I can’t believe I just did that.
“Will it be actually good?”
you were asking about a dorm music festival. I laughed and said that we would find out. We arrived together and raced to the next dorm. I love, loved running with you chasing after me. We sat next to each other all night, I caught the way you looked at me during some songs. After you invited me to your friend’s house. I ate all the candy that tasted like cough syrup and was the worst at all the video games. We got back to your apartment late and you asked if I was leaving or not. I had never planned on leaving but I pretend to think about it anyways. We smoked off the fire escape and looked at the city, too small to be an actual city. We were in a relationship, too small to be an actual relationship. The night went on and on. We kissed in the lights, kissed into the dark. Right when one of us would stop we’d look at each other again and start all over. In the morning, you were afraid your arms were crushing me. It was snowing outside, still cold in mid-April. You gave me your clothes and walked me to my dorm. I stole some tortilla chips from your apartment.
“Come up here”
I said that to you. You came to dorm fest late because of the snow, but I saved you a seat on the lofted bed. You walked in the snow to see me again, after saying goodbye to me just 7 hours ago. You held my hand as we walked from my parking spot to my friend’s dorm. I always forgot my gloves. After dissecting my party playlist with an aftertaste of PBR you walked me to my dorm, claiming you could stay for a little while. We laid on the couch until we became horizontal yet again, just like we were 24 hours ago. I took off my sweatshirt wearing only a cropped cami and jeans while the snow still raged on. I wanted to feel your hands skin to skin. You left but I didn’t get up from the couch. I laid there for an hour thinking of how things finally got so right for me, for once.
“Am I wearing it right?”
Finally, it was Sunday. I wanted to keep this seeing-you-streak going and was going to make any time count. I only stopped by the art building to see you for an hour. You wore my beret until it covered your entire head. I had to leave and got up, noticing you were staying seated. Then you threw yourself at me, as a hug and kiss goodbye. I felt like the girlfriend I always wished to be in high school.
“Which eye do you look at?”
I broke my seeing-you-streak and there was a whole day in which I missed you. This was a Tuesday, and I think this was my favorite night with you. I had shaved in my dorm 10 minutes after I was supposed to meet you. We walked to your apartment and went to your room while your roommates watched Drag Race. I was worried I had made a mistake. A girl in my class told you I was talking about you, and suddenly I became vulnerable. I felt like the obsessive girl I used to be, and always will be. You texted your roommates to leave after they were done, but I knew I was going to end up staying in that room. We kissed and made silly faces at each other after each one. We played pirate music and sugar ray. I showed you my favorite Christmas song. We kissed while my thighs pinned you down. I was wearing a dress that made me feel like a paper doll. It got late and you walked me back to my dorm. We walked in while my roommate and her boyfriend were watching tv on the couch. I brought you into my room to give you your clothes back. We laughed about how awkward we were walking in and kissed in the red light of my bedroom. I walked you to the side door and we made out in front of the entrance, in the stairwell, I think I even looked at the camera for a second. Except for this time, I wasn’t nervous if people saw me. I couldn’t dodge you like I did before. I didn’t even try to.
“Stop looking at me like that”
I laughed. It was the look I gave when I pretended my mind was a radio tower, sending signals to you. This night made me upset and I still don’t know why. You were acting sluggish and played music I didn’t want to hear as I wove half a rooms length away from you. Still I enjoyed you there. We walked together in front of my classmates, and went to the other room to work alone. We ate gummy worms and shouted lyrics to the high ceilings. We gave a small kiss goodbye at the door of the classroom. Then you saw my look and I reached for your hand to come back in. We made out in the corner of the classroom, the classroom I had my first day of class in. I saw it as a symbol for me. When you left I thought I had done something wrong. There was no reason behind it but I couldn’t get the thought out of my head. What if I messed things up. I told you I was sorry for being psychotic. You told me to stop apologizing.
“Let me help you draw a straight line”
I was too shakey to draw anything that precise. It had been about five days since I saw you last. You were sick and I was tired of waiting for you to say when exactly you wanted to meet up today. I walked to the art supply store listening to music that made me feel crazy. Then I saw you walking to me. We went to the art store together and worked on projects all night. You showed me abrasive music and I showed you 80s pop stars. When I left you decided to walk me to work. I was waiting for you to kiss me but then it was too late and we were in the office. I said okay well bye as I shook your hand. You laughed and gave me a quick hug saying you didn’t want to get me sick. My boss walked in on my smiling like a caricature of myself shaking your hand. I smiled during my work meeting.
“I look like a doofus”
You weren’t opening your eyes enough as you should have been. I was taking your headshots for you after taking my friends. I played Grimes and made you laugh. Those were my favorite ones. We didn’t spend much time alone that night or much time at all. But it was nice just to have you there. After I took your photos you had to leave to write a paper but you kissed me goodbye. This was an actual goodbye kiss, quick and sweet. I took photos of the crazy words I write that night.
“I just can’t do this anymore”
I knew I fucked up somewhere. But again, let’s start at the beginning of the night.
People looked at us went you went up to say hello. I did some weird arm movement because I was nervous. Not only was this a work-ish event you were, are, my boss-ish. But people had seen us walk for hours on campus together. I didn’t sit with you for dinner but talked to you non-stop after. We ran together again, across the street like we had on our first date. We played really bad beer pong together and we smiled a lot. You drank jungle juice and I drank crown. I had enough to be stumble-y but not enough to be drunk. You monitored me all night, making sure I didn’t make the same mistakes. You smoked out of a bong and I just sat there because I don’t listen to directions very well. When we went back upstairs I spoke, and then you even spoke, to the person I was obsessed with, the boy who I was infatuated with, the boy who broke a heart that was made of glass. He ended it by saying he “couldn’t right now, I’m too crazy for this”. Foreshadowing.
Standing against the wall you said I looked good. I think that could have been the first time you complimented me. I told you I didn’t hear it and you had to repeat it but you wouldn’t. I thought this was the start of another game, another joke that only we would understand. Somehow, we found each other in the laundry room. You wouldn’t kiss me so as a joke I gave you a quick peck. You said you couldn’t do this right now.
I was freaking out. I heard those words before. I went to a room and wrote nonsense on a coloring book writing out all my worries, spilling my guts outside the lines. I found you again and made the same joke, sorry I was psychotic. You wanted to talk in another room. It all came crashing down at once. I leaned against the door because I knew I wouldn’t be able to hold myself up. It happened again. You were pacing and crying saying things like you couldn’t do this anymore, and you were crazy and had things to work on, and that you really liked me but it wasn’t my fault. I was looking above you the whole time trying not to let the tears stream to fast because if I started who would know if I could stop. I whispered to the sky, to you that this happens more times than you know. That I’ve gotten the same talk before. You looked startled as if you thought I wouldn’t be cruel back. You were hurt saying that made you feel bad. People had started knocking on the door they wouldn’t stop, wanting us to leave, thinking we were having sex in someone’s room. I had a question for you. I asked you what was wrong with me. What made me unlovable. I called you a liar, saying if you really liked me like you said you did you wouldn’t be doing this. You sobbed and we hugged goodbye and I kept whispering something is wrong with me. I went to the car and didn’t cry until I got to my room. I fucking wailed.
“I guess I thought I was ready”
The next morning, I drank tea while you came over to talk. You got up from the couch to get a tissue. I felt like I couldn’t be mad at you anymore. I felt everything still even after you left. You talked about being friends but I told you I’ve tried that before, it doesn’t work out. This was the worst I ever saw you it felt stiff and cold even though it finally got warm outside.
“Can I call you?”
I called you the next day because I felt like I had more things to say. I called to tell you I really liked you and that I wasn’t sure if it would just go away. That if you got better I would be here. You said you couldn’t be sure. You had all these thoughts but you couldn’t put them into words. I told you I leave on Friday.
“Peace be with you”
I saw you Thursday night before I left. It was my own plan, stopping by at work accidentally knowing you would be there. Checking to see how things were doing. It was refreshing pretending as if nothing ever happened. I wanted you to call me but you never did. And now it’s been almost a month since it all came crashing down. I ask you what philosophy class you took. I’m still waiting for a call that will never come.

Hey! I found your blog recently and I also just started listening to MFS and I really like their music. I'm a bit lost as to where to start to learn more about them and their motivation/thoughts behind their music since it's been a couple years since they've debuted. What would you suggest?
Hello (^^)v Welcome to the fandom.
I’m guessing you probably discovered them through their more popular songs like ALONE, 不可逆リプレイス or the more recent ones like Missing You. Firstly, too many people get caught up in singer Hiro’s family relations and ignore the other members. So, I would highly encourage a new fan to NOT follow that crowd XD
There are basically 4 aspects to MFS that all fans need to know OR you won’t understand the band and what diehard fans talk about:
1. Band members & the personnel changes.2. Their musical roots especially the main songwriter Sho Tsuchiya + their twin band named fromus.3. Hiro’s lyrics in relations to his life story.4. The important people in their team especially their boss GEN, A&R exec KTR (Kentaro Suzuki) from Japan Music System (JMS) & circle of friends. Also, their earliest mentor K ( Kei Goto) the late singer of Pay Money To My Pain (PTP).
BAND MEMBERS
1. Sho Tsuchiya ~ leader, guitarist, main composer (currently only functions behind the scene & as a non-touring member)2. Nob @ Nobuaki Katou ~ bassist3. Teru @ Teruki Nishizawa ~ guitarist (many like to categorize him as rhythm guitarist when Sho was in but I personally disagree because he played both lead & rhythm guitars even from the 1st album)4. Kid'z ~ drummer (officially joined on 3 Mar 2016)5. Hiro @ Hiroki Moriuchi ~ vocalist, lyricist6. Masack @ Masaki Kojima ~ drummer (officially left on 3 Mar 2016)
Note: MFS current members “deactivated" from public social media in early 2016. So, don’t bother looking XD
PERSONNEL CHANGES
Sho’s hiatus:Sho remains as a member. He announced his hiatus in October 2015. I won’t call it “inactive" like some people do because he’s still composing with them and most recently served as the Sound Producer for ANTITHESE. He’s just not a touring member for now. He didn’t give specific reason other than family matter.
Drummer change:Masaki didn’t state why he left but it looked like he didn’t want to be tied down to only one genre of music. He was active playing outside MFS before his departure. So, he probably wanted that musical freedom even though he loves MFS. But his decision was enough to badly crush the two youngest members at the time, Hiro and Teruki, from what I observed. Those two younger men were still emotionally dealing with Sho’s hiatus at that moment.  Kid'z is their friend / labelmate who had always got along well with Teru & Hiro. He had worked together with Sho & Nob before too. Co-incidentally, his band officially split up in Nov 2015. So, he was the natural choice to replace Masaki. But Kid'z was drumming as a sessionist musician for singer ナノ(nano) at the time MFS took him. He stopped using his real name and took on a stage name Kid'z* after that.
* I personally don’t use his real name in public anymore out of respect for his decision. Understandably, he was initially worried about MFS fans’ reaction. Also, it was and probably still is an awkward situation for him regarding his former bandmates when their band split up and he went to their biggest rival band just a few months later. So, I chose to respect his wish to start anew.
THEIR BEGINNING
On my blog so far, the interview that tells their formation year story the most is this one from GEKIROCK.
MFS GEKIROCK Interview March 2016 Translation
The band did describe how they got together in this video interview around minutes 01:42 to 02:58.
youtube
My Japanese listening ability is not up to that point yet though, sorry. Hiro explained how he and Sho met at a PTP concert. Couldn’t catch what Sho said about Hiro & Masaki with the music playing in the background :-/ Hiro also said he and Teru knew each other when they were high school students. Well, the GEKIROCK interview is a pretty good picture of their history.

THEIR TWIN BAND fromus
Ignore whatever musical comparison people made about them and OOR. The real band to compare MFS to is their real twin band fromus, a piano-rock unit. I made an entry about them here.
http://japanessie.tumblr.com/post/140215899677/meet-fromus-mfs-real-twin-band
I personally feel that musically, MFS first two albums are the direct guitar edition fromus. Just take MFS, change the singer & then the guitars to piano. You’ll get fromus.
OTHER MUSICAL INFLUENCES
They do have influences from old school hard rock & metal. Sho and Nob are already in their 30s. Both men said they started on guitar with British rock legend Deep Purple’s Smoke On The Water. Guitarist Teruki grew up with a heavy-metal-music-loving father and would often cite Ozzy Osbourne and Metallica as his early influences.
DISCOGRAPHY
If you want to see their musical & lyrical evolution, try to listen to their songs chronologically from the 1st album to the current work.

TIDBITS Info (^_-)
Hiro called 虚言NEUROSE creation process as “creating a human-like superhero" & the sound as “listening to the radio in the city“. Does that make any sense to you? LOL. Read what he said in this interview:
Hiro’s Interview with Rockin’ On Japan magazine Jan 2015
HIRO’s LYRICS
Sho let Hiro be in charge of lyrics writing from the start (from an interview for Yamaha Music).
Hiro comes from a famous family thanks to his parents and his successful brother. As a result, he was heavily thrashed on the internet by people who disliked his “easy entry” into the music industry. Hiro used to be very active on Twitter but the criticism against him soon turned into cyber-bullying. I personally had seen the cruel things people wrote about him on Japanese 2ch forum.
I can only guess what happened that drove Hiro to leave social media. Other than abusive online comments, some people probably took advantage of his Twitter presence by sending inappropriate messages or even being intrusive about his brother Taka’s personal life. He tweeted an angry response about 2ch on 14 Feb 2013. Then he wrote on his blog on Ameblo (now deleted / deactivated(?)) that “people’s words can hurt". A few months later, he tweeted “I started blocking fucked up people" in English. Not long after, he tweeted his final tweet “Goodbye forever" and abandoned Twitter in Sept 2013.
He then channeled his anger through the song BLACK RAIL in 2014. He explained it in this interview.
Hiro MFS Rolling Stone Japan Aug 2014 Interview Translation
From then on, a lot of his lyrics reflected what he was going through while writing them.
It must be noted that the special project singles ALONE & 不可逆リプレイス (Fukagyaku Replace) were written for the themes of those projects. Hiro talked at length about ALONE around its release and there are a bunch of them that I posted on this blog.

What is HAL Project & HAL College?
不可逆リプレイス / Fukagyaku Replace was made for the historical anime Nobunaga Concerto. Interesting to note that Hiro wrote the lyrics not from the main character Saburo’s point of view but the other guy Michi. The lines, “I don’t know why but you saved me ………… “ all the way to “I will follow you ….. keep you close to me,” were directly inspired by what Michi said to Saburo in the finale or Episode 10.
The lyrics of Someday are for the late K.Hiro said in Kaohsiung, Taiwan that “This is a very important song to me,“.

ANTITHESE Lyrics & Hiro’s personal stories
The Puzzle & Tomorrowland are about his heartbreak over Masaki’s departure.Home is about his family who split up after his parents divorced.

STORYTELLER Fan Clubhttps://xxxstorytellerxxx.comAll MFS members let go of their individual public social media after the club was launched in 2016. If you’re interested to join, feel free to ask questions on how to do that.
In case you have an iOS mobile device ……..
JMS created a Japan-only iOS App called LIVEHOUSE where they feature videos from JMS artists. The videos vary from live performances, interviews, behind the scenes etc. However, if you create a different Apple ID specifically for Japan iTunes account, you can still download the App and watch those videos even if you don’t live in Japan.
*Update (12 Jan 2017): You will then get to watch videos like this one!
**Update (15 June 2017): JMS decided to stop the App by 31 May 2017.
Tumblr media
Lastly yet very important, don’t believe any ridiculous claim about Hiro and his brother Taka hating each other because they don’t. You’ll find such comments at some point, I’m sure. These two brothers love and support each other away from the public eye and rightfully keep their family relationship private.
I hope that will give you a good start (^_-)
