the allergy i am seeing grow up around small talk in any form is troubling to me. do you know how to make friends with people in your physical environment? it typically starts with small talk. do you want to live in community? small talk. do you want to have the type of relationship with your neighbors where you can run over and borrow a battery for your smoke detector when it starts beeping at 10pm? small talk!! do you want leeway from your coworkers when you fuck up something small? you gotta be able to build a relationship and that's small talk, baybeee.

"but i don't need friends and i don't care about community!" okay, lone ranger, what about the people in your community who need you? "but i have social anxiety!" me too, bud! we simply must soldier on. making up lists of questions to ask people helps. and people are predisposed to be generous, i've found. even if you make some kind of mistake, what is this but the natural give and take of human interaction? nobody is perfect.

you were not put on this earth to live by yourself and then die. you need people and people need you. treat those around you with curiosity and generousness of spirit and you will gain so much goodwill in return.

#my pharmacist spotted me a weeks worth of meds once when mine were in a building closed for asbestos #because we'd been doing small talk for a couple of months and had a rapport #this is not emotional labor btw. in no way is 'doing small talk' emotional labor. dont say that.#edification #community is a garden

the infamous 'last sighting of a barbary lion in the wild' photo taken by marcelin flandrin (1925) haunts me to my core. there's something so achingly poetic about it.

#this is so random for me but i saw this the other night and it genuinley hasnt left my brain #there's a lot of debate around this subspecies and whether they are #extinct or w/e #hence my wording BUT #this photo and that kinda ....... Once again, you know who is underutilized in DCxDP crossovers? Battinson. Skrunkly shivering boi. Who we should definitely give children to care for.

Did you know that Jason canonically had a brother named Danny? Well you do now, and it should also be used more.

We all want to give Battinson a robin, so why not give him four for the price of two. He of course gets Dick from the circus- he’s never going to go into public again, this was the first time he’d gone to do something out of his comfort zone for a while and look how that turned out.

And on one of the nights that Dick has to stay home (Alfred insists he must finish his homework if he wants to go out on patrol) Bruce returns to the batmobile to find not one child, but two. Is Danny reincarnated? Just appeared one day? Who knows, but he’s here now and going to protect his little brother.

Bruce might have tears in his eyes when they both hit him in the kneecaps and bolt because even with the armor it still hurts. How he manages to grab both kids he’s not too sure, but he ends up getting them food after they put the tires back. He also doesn’t understand how he’s convinced them into the car but they’ve both conked out and maybe he’s panicking and needs Alfred-

D-Dick why is there another child here? He’s the neighbor, cool cool. W-what do you mean he’s home alone, he’s like, 4?? What do you mean he’s been alone for a week now???

Maybe go to a festival.#When the day is done and he's back in his river and alone - LWJ finally feels a new emotion...it is longing and loneliness.

From chapter 20: Play Beneath the Rings of "Out There: The 1K - part 1."

(evening, outside, Will and Terra are playing tag. Yune is sitting on the lowered ramp of his ship. The song "How" by Lisa Loeb is playing in the background from Terra's mix CD that he transferred to the ship's music library for her. He's on the com with Selka, who stayed in the city, while they're out in the middle of nowhere next to the Utray's valley - which comes into play later on in the story.

This is the calm before the storm. They just saw a shooting star.)

“Yay!” They cheered, “Alright! We get to go star hunting!”

“I’m gonna find it first,” Will went into competition mode.

“Not if I find it before you do,” his twin needled.

“Keep dreaming, nerdlet,” he shoved her lightly. She shoved him back, “It exploded into pieces. What about this; whoever finds the biggest piece gets the other’s dessert for a week.”

“What if I find it first?” Yune threw his chip into the ring. He enjoyed a little competition, “I get both of your desserts for a week.”

“Deal, but you won’t, Scavenger,” Will joked, “This is mine.”

“Nuh-uh, dork,” Terra threw a pebble at him that bounced harmlessly off his back, “You’re gonna be eating Loser Pie.”

“You just stated the reason why I’ll win,” he grinned, “That’s what I do for a living. I’m good at finding stuff. And it’s salvager. Not scavenger.”

“Ok, Scavenger,” Will enjoyed picking on his fake uncle, “You’re still gonna lose.”

“And you’re gonna need all the luck you can get, Sparky.”

Selka listened to the exchange, her heart brightening. The time out there together would be good for them; for the kids to feel free, and for her best friend to unblock his heart. She knew this, which was why she used the 'keeping up appearances' half-truth as the main excuse. She had hoped that in helping them, they would help him in a way she'd tried to, but couldn't.

It seemed to be working. Those three actually sounded like the family they pretended to be.

I have seen exactly 1 episode of Blue Eye Samurai and I am gobsmacked by how amazing it is. Mizu is already my everything. I am almost never so deeply invested so quickly in any media. I am obsessed. If the rest of the show is consistent in quality with the first episode then this show is Arcane level incredible, and I do not say that lightly.
