" for the receiver to waken the next morning and find the sender to still be sitting by their bedside, having stayed the whole night to ensure they slept.

Octavinelle is tiring. I am overworked.

But I don't want to go to Heartslabyul because I don't wanna memorize all the rules (I'm dumb please)

And I'm not going to Savanaclaw because like. Athletic?? I'm not??

Octavinelle, Azul works me to death (or. close to it.)

Scarabia is for smart people

Pomefiore is for people who want to make themselves pretty/better and I do not have the effort for it

Ignihyde.... I could go there??

And Diasomnia is scary.

Conclusion: Ignihyde is the safest place for me to be.

It's rare to find Alastor asleep anywhere but his own room, or the radio tower -- but here he is, in the hotel lounge, fast asleep.

He's slumped over the rather small two-seater in front of the fireplace, with his left leg dangling clean over the side, its knee resting on the floor and aiding in keeping him from rolling off. The right leg is stretched out with nearly half of it jutting awkwardly over the couch's arm opposite his head due to him being too tall for it.

His right arm is folded beneath his head to act as a pillow, while the left arm is also dangling over the side, bent inward and palm down, his sharp fingers splayed out across the floorboards. Near that hand, somewhat scattered out, are a fountain pen and several papers -- hotel business, like bills and inventory and, most importantly, a ledger of who is currently staying there. He'd been updating it before seemingly drifting off and dropping it all.

The red-lensed, gold-rimmed glasses he wears are folded and lying on the nearby end table. The coat with tattered edges and vest that he usually wears are both neatly folded and draped over the couch's back, leaving him in just his black dress shirt, red bowtie, and pants. No shoes, either; those are positioned at the end of the couch his leg is dangling off of...which means his hooves are on full display. So is his tail, which offers a tiny twitch every once in a while as he keeps sleeping -- breathing deeply and still wearing a slight smile on his face.

Overall...he looks really peaceful.

HPB haul from 9/22/23

Back on the 22nd last month, I made another run to Half Price Books.

I've never read or watched The Handmaid's Tale, so here's a chance to read it, at least. I've watched The Princess Bride many times, but I've never read it, so when I saw this I had to get a copy. And I'm hoping the cult, serial killer, and Tesla books come in handy for Black Butler analysis. I recently teased about Scalzi's latest book here, but it honestly sounds like a fun read, so I picked up a copy of that, too.

Flame Tree publishing puts out some effing beautiful book editions and journals. The copy of Moby Dick at the top, the two small myth books to the lower right, and the two journals (one is open) are all by Flame Tree. They publish all those lovely Epic Tales, Gothic Fantasy, and Classic Stories books I have a large collection of, too. The smaller copy of Moby Dick is from that other large collection I've been buying up, published by Chiltern. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is part of the Chartwell editions I've started collecting. The Homer box set is quite nice, and I also broke down and bought these Jane Austen and Shakespeare paper dolls with sticker sets.

I'm just not sure what to do with the dolls. I might place them on sturdy backing, cut them out, and give them supports to stand on the shelves.

Also hoping the Arthurian myth and Egyptian myth books might prove useful in Black Butler analysis, though I do have other books about those topics.

Chaos existed beyond these walls tonight, but as with much of the time since the gala, that door was designed to shut it all out. Zera was good at being alone, making for herself a cave out of anywhere. Things of the mortal world had long lost its meaning after they came for her and her family, but being dead had brought a new perspective.

No, that wasn't quite true. Something else had. "We must get that 'fever' down," she teased with a soft tsk toward the woman on her couch, "what kind of medicine do you want?"

Luke had always found solace and understanding in machinery. Sure, these cars were not the same as speeders or droids, but they were close enough that he could do a decent job. He felt better being in a new place when he had something to offer. And that was why he had lingered when he saw the smoking vehicle. The force brought him into wherever the hell this planet was without memory of how he got there. It wasn't to help random passerby's. But why not? "Can I be of assistance?"
