Do people know what transracial actually means. Because I feel like if they did, they'd use it as a gotcha less often.
#for those who are unaware#transracial is when someone is adopted or otherwise raised by a separate culture than their skin might imply#a black kid raised by a Mexican family might consider themself Mexican#it makes logical sense right? it's not a wild and crazy thought?#yeah that's because it's an important issue that very rarely gets talked about#it is NOT people just declaring themselves whatever race for any reason#shout out to any real transracial people out there i know it's hard when you try to talk about your experiences and people don't listen#i was raised by a [redacted] woman who married a white man and adopted my parent#i ate a lot of the food and i learned some of the culture but i dont know the language and i dont have contact with the family#so i dont consider myself transracial#but when ive talked about this before ive had other people say theyd understand if i did#but for me to feel like a community is mine that community needs to welcome me too#and i dont belong and i know i dont so it's not mine to claim
