I definetly thought that the derringer was going to play a part in the episode, maybe that plotline got scrapped but not the license line because of the ironic implications of an angel legally owning guns but a demon never having shot one.

No. Do you try to help her or talk to her or give her the support she needs right now? No. You tell her that if she’s not going back to school she can’t stay at your house during the summer. You cut her out. You stop speaking to her. And there you are repeating your mother’s mistakes. You took a different road but it led to the same place.
