I know this is just beating a dead horse at this point but good god Warriors really does have so many opportunities to write all kinds of different complex tales and relationships, even just as shorts, and it makes me so so sad. Even just the smaller things, the ones that almost hilariously ignore the bigger plot going on around them.

We all know Breezepelt, but I personally wanna know about his kids! I want to know what kind of father he is to four whole daughters. He’s the guy known for having daddy issues, is he a terrible father? Is he just an okay one? Is he genuinely trying really hard to be good? I want to know!

What about the aftermath of Brokenstar’s reign? What happened to the apprenticed kits who survived the ordeal? Did they remain as paws but had an extended training time? Were they put back in the nursery and expected to just go on knowing what the outside world looked like until moons later? What about the apprentices named before they were adults, were they changed back to paws? What kind of generational trauma did ShadowClan carry from Brokenstar, from all the children who died and all the ones who grew up much too fast?

Dawnpelt was known for mainly one thing: the cat who believed, wholeheartedly, that Jayfeather killed Flametail. She is now also the mother of Sleekwhisker, a Darktail obsessed villain, Juniperclaw, who briefly joined Darktail, poisoned prey, and is now dead and guarding the border between StarClan and the Dark Forest. And then there’s Strikestone, who joined Darktail for a bit but then didn’t do much else except also die. Thats two children dead, one who is denied redemption despite his willingness to, and a third child whos very murderous. Does that not fuck someone up, at least a little?

Pouncestep is my personal favorite simply because she has become the background character in a family of main characters. Lightleap is slowly getting a little bit of spotlight thanks to Blazefire, but Pouncestep is just...there. Literally what is her life even like, watching all her important family members deal with the worst thing ever five times a week. Is she minding her own business. I hope she’s just vibing. I want a calm short with her ignoring all the plot.

Moonkitti brought this up already, but she was so right for it, cause...what about all the cats named in honor of the dead? Hollytuft? Sorrelstripe? Fernsong? Even new Bristlekit and Stemkit, and so many more---does that not mess with a cat? We know it messed with Nightheart, and while being named after and related to Firestar I’m sure does some things to a dude, we have other cats who do look eerily similar to who they’re named after. Lets not even start with Cinderheart. With this naming tradition becoming more and more common, one has to wonder if ThunderClan is gonna be filled to the brim with cats that have some INSANE identity issues.

I should make a list of wc super editions that i straight up don’t consider canon. like “no this did not happen to those characters growing up, stop lying”. Mostly Yellowfang’s Secret. Everything about Yellowfang’s Secret. I think we should all collectively look at Yellowfang’s Secret and go “None of that happened, not the family tree stuff, none of it.” and walk away

#tbh everyone being cruel to bluestar in her se while unpleasant to read about. it at least serves as a good explanation #for her behavior in the second half of tpb #i mean its not really Needed all things considered and youre not meant to read it as everyone failing her #but rather ‘’bluestar needs to get a grip and learn that work comes before your mental health’’#but yknow i can at least get it yknow?#but yellowfang? everything about her se makes me feel bad for no reason. everyone is shitty to her from day 1 and they end it being shitty #and we have no real reason to believe her life sucked before the brokenstar stuff #we didnt need raggedstar to bully yellowfang from birth and then coerce her into a relationship #we didnt need a pointless power where she can feel everyones pain and its never acknowledged again #and only serves as a way for sagewhisker to bully yellowfang into the position #we didnt need yellowfangs own family to turn on her #i cant remember if this was said in tpb also but we didnt need to watch her daughters die at birth #we didnt need to retcon her actually having friends in shadowclan so that actually dawncloud and the others never liked her #its SUCH a miserable read and on top of that it only offers shitty retcons that actually make tpb worse #like the power thing again but also yellowfang not being an old lady. why isnt she an old lady wtf. why do you hate old people #oh raggedstar was actually abusive to yellowfang? oh all the moments we worship him in tpb sure are great and hold up well!#yellowfang was forced to be a medic wowww so groundbreaking this doesnt cheapen her wanting to be tc’s medic #actually the elders were not old they were super young and stuff for some reason bc old people cant be important to saving a clan ig #and like yeah its not out of the realm of possibility but brightflower being yellowfangs mom is just a bizarre choice to me #idk man yellowfangs secret is an extra level of miserable to me and i think we should all agree its not actually canon #its a cynical and miserable book made to slap a fan favorite character on the cover and vaguely gesture to it with ‘’you like that one.’’

I do wish people drew Yellowfang with more with the rattiest, mangiest, most plaque ridden teeth and gave her just the worst smelling breath.

Like I get the joke of putting yellow on in Yellowfang's pelt cause she has yellow in her name, but doing that and simultaneously giving her pearly whites does betray what in my mind feels like the original intention of her character.

I know nowadays its hard to look at Into the Wild completely on its own without the mountains of further context and elaboration we've gotten over the years, but when you wind back the clock and look at ItW just on its own its surprising in contrast to the rest of the franchise (even to the rest of The Prophecies Begin) just how simple, direct, and even cartoonish the aesthetics of that book are.

ThunderClan are the good guys, ShadowClan are the bad guys (who have a hint of "we're not inherently evil, just currently being misguided, but also we are inherently mean and violent"), and WindClan and RiverClan are non-entities who are just window-dressing.

Between ThunderClan and ShadowClan, characters are built to follow this dichotomy super hard. The ThunderClan medicine cat Spottedleaf is a kind, gentle, caring young lady with a pretty calico pattern who is constantly (to a memetic degree) stated to smell nice and sweet. In contrast, the ShadowClan medicine cat has to be built to be her polar opposite. Yellowfang is a grouchy old lady with a jet-black pelt whos covered in scars, has this squished in face, and has a name meant to invoke the image of bad hygiene (what should be the opposite image of a healer). Shes the healer of the (for this story) designated evil side who was designed to looks the part.

idk if we can request bb character summaries but. jay, the old lady who runs a gang in tallstar's revenge?

I'm not sure where I'm going with Jay.

A lot of the outside group cats are overhauled, for the sake of making BloodClan an actual culture that's existed for a long time. Jay seems to be some kind of respected elder in TR and Yellowfang’s Secret, which I could translate into having her be someone who ranks high.

But, I already chose one of her recurring subordinates, Pixie, to become Puffballpad. The surviving kitten from Snowtuft's slaughter, the horrific event that ended ShadowClan's involvement in the Crusades.

So the thing that makes the most sense is having Jay be the mother (or guardian) of Pixie and Marmalade, and then meet her end there. Though she is an interesting character and I would like to use her more than just the once.

Not sure yet. Maybe I'll have Pinestar meet her once when he's young and hear of her death, as a good example of the way clan culture dehumanizes outsiders and how he is able to recognize how evil this is. I could at LEAST give her a higher rank and some collar teeth in the meanwhile.

I was reading through all the Wind stuff and my god. Frostpaw really did get absolutely dragged this book. Like. Like RiverClan and Leafstar come on. guys she's the equivalent of a traumatized 15 year old what do you MEAN she should be exiled and what do you MEAN she has "suspicious motives" to get Splashtail out of leadership SHE IS JUST A KID OH MY GODDDD. I hope almost everyone in RC gets chewed out by someone OR Frostpaw stays in ShadowClan. but neither of those will happen. oh how a girl can dream...

By now she's definitely not a kid anymore, I think? But it is kind of weird that Splashtail can casually admit he DID get close to her when she was younger and then proceed to blame her and uuuhh no one even raises an eyebrow? Okay.

The Duskfur thing was COLD, lady that is your granddaughter why are you kicking up more of a fuss that Tigerheart isn't leaving her out in the cold than when Splashtail EXILED her???

Drama, eh? How about the tragedy that is Dustpelt's mother?

Mild trigger warning for xenophobia.

I split up Robinwing's kittens amongst others. Frostfur and Chestnutwing are their only children, though she does give some help to Brindleface and Whitestorm both for a small amount of time. All Queens helped out with Brindlekit and Whitekit though. Brindlekit's mother abandoned Thunderclan after giving birth and never said who the father was, and no one claimed her. Longtail was born to Patchpelt still, but now his mother is an OC named Bluebellfur. This successfully shatters one of the problems that Robinwing, Fuzzypelt and Patchpelt caused.

As for Dustpelt, Cherrypaw and Ravenpaw? They are now the kittens that belong to Grayflower.

Grayflower is a skinny gray and cream/dilute tortoiseshell molly with purple eyes. She had her kits Honor Sired by Featherwhisker. They had NO relationship, she just wanted a Thunderclan Sire and Featherwhisker gave a thumbs up as long as she didn't involve him. He ain't a father.

She appears first during Bluestar's Prophecy as a young apprentice, trained by Fuzzypelt, and is one of the (many) cats egging on Thistlepaw. Yeah! Let's ruin those soggy fish munching freaks! Sure I'll show you a good spot where you can beat the snot out of an innocent kittypet, they're not truly cats, after all.

Yeah... if Featherwhisker knew how nasty she could be, I don't think he would have Honor Sired.

She was a TOUGH lady. Awful habits aside, nothing EVER fazed Grayflower. Ever. Cucumber trick would not have worked, kitty is unshakable.

As for her family, one would be SHOCKED to know that her parents are Tawnyspots and a brilliant cat known as Flypelt. Sadly, Flypelt passed in childbirth, leaving Tawnyspots alone with Graykit and Thrushkit. Where Thrushkit would become Thrushpelt, a proto-Fire Law supporter, his sister Grayflower would become a proto-Tiger Law supporter. A HARD Codeist.

However, oddly enough... She was a very loving mother. She held Cherrykit, Dustkit and Ravenkit close, amused when Ravenkit showed purple eyes like hers. She loved them so much, telling the three all the time how proud she was, making sure to hunt for them when she could to get their favorite prey - Robin. She even made a request to Bluestar to hold Ravenkit back for a while, her son too nervous to leave the nursery just yet.

She was the mother that would leave kind notes in your lunchbag, pack cool bandaids in her purse whenever you scraped your knee and tell you you're being so, so brave when she uses the antiseptic spray. Grayflower would make sure you eat your veggies and use your manners and help you if you needed it.

But she would then go online and rant about 'filthy' outsiders posing a threat, and cats with "outside blood" should be thrown out of the Clans, and no one could ever hope to be as holy or pure as a "Proper Thunderclan cat".

Her death comes swiftly in WCR!Into The Wild, she dies in the same battle Lionheart is killed in. Her throat is slashed by a Shadowclan cat, she's dead before she even hits the ground. Firepaw didn't like her, but when he sees how it effects her 3 kids, he understands that while she wasn't kind in any way towards him, she was still loved.

Cherryshine hides away in the warriors den, holding a small gift that Grayflower made for her, a wooden figure. Dustpaw goes from snarky and rude to just... Closed off completely. No one can get him to talk for several days. Ravenpaw clings to Graypaw and Firepaw harder for a while, having even more nightmares...

Her impact is felt harder in her death. Dustpelt had always wanted to be like her, and when he grows up he realizes just how horrific her ideals had been. Cherryshine had started to reject her ideals as an apprentice, but it never meant she didn't love her mother, never wanted to see her get better.

Ravenpaw though? Oooh, that's the juicy one.

Ravenpaw's Farewell is about grief, loss, and how people we lose can still have effect on us, even years down the line. Ravenpaw visits the graves of cats he knew regularly, the ones that haven't been paved over for an almost completely unused road. Grayflower's grave is included. He has... Some feelings about her.

When Tigerclaw had started to blame him for all the bad things happening in Thunderclan, would she have believed him? She would have died for her kids, but she would have died for Tigerstar's plans too. She believed Tigerclaw's every word... Had she loved Ravenpaw enough?

She would love who Barley is, he's funny, strong, and always up for a quick hunting session or a fun wrestle.

But she would hate what Barley is, so, so much. She hated all outsiders, especially clanless cats.

Would she hate him too?
