There are a lot of moments that Henry and Alex are so incredibly sexy in the film and the novel, but this one is a major favorite for me. The way this whole scene was set up led to this beautiful overall feeling of discovery for them both. The careful gentleness that Alex touches Henry makes this even sexier and as these small little touches tend to do, it makes their emotional intimate relationship be right there on screen. There's a vulnerability to the way Henry stands and lets Alex decide how to touch him, too. Confidence, honesty, vulnerability, trust, and care, that is sexy.

Sexy Saturday - Strong Henry

Sometimes I watch this scene and get so overcome with how incredible it is that Henry actually did this. This wasn't a 'heat of the moment' decision. He did not have to show up. He had hours to ruminate on it, to have all sorts of small and big feelings about going to Alex's room. This is one of those moments where as I'm taking in what I'm watching and I hear Alex in the book say this:

"It's incredible and baffling, the way Henry's confidence comes in waves like this, how he struggles so much to get through the asking for what he wants and then readily takes it the moment he's given permission,"

I hear that in my head often when I watch the movie, in a part of this scene later, too. It definitely speaks to how beautifully the translation of Alex's Henry was written for the script and then performed by Nick, who somehow KNEW our Henry and made him his own while epically retaining every part and parcel of Henry we fell in love with long before he ever met him, and became our Henry.

I have gotten a bit off topic, so to go back to my point from before, Henry is so strong for doing this. We all know that as much as he wanted Alex, and even had a green light from him, there were so many factors he had to consider that could have stopped him from walking down that hallway on the second floor and being guided by Amy to Alex's room. This early on, he still could have just walked away, given into the fears and other negative emotions and thoughts he feels toward himself. He didn't. He strongly strode right up to Alex's door (maybe a few minutes? little late because he debated a little bit with himself if he should take the risk and take what he wants), and he knocked on that door, let his wants and needs take over, and he pushed everything else away as he not only refused to take Alex's shit, but then took the lead and fucking had Alex.

The look on Henry's face is one of those sexy expressions that will pop up in my mind for likely the rest of my life, and I like to think Alex mentally stored it, too. Beautiful, yearning, strong Henry.
