All he could smell was the blood. It coated his senses, thick and cloying and he choked on vomit, choked and gasped and shook.

Something warm and wet smeared across his cheek. He flinched, whimpering, and heard an answering chirp-whistle in his ear.

No, it was moving, pressing up against him, big and not going cold with death but warm and alive alive alive.
There was another chirp, louder, and something hard and ridged bumped against his chest and all he could see through his tears was a blur of blue-green feathers that tickled his nose and he put his bloody hands on smooth scales, felt a steady, thumping pulse and he didn't understand.
Boga licked his face again.

Summary:
A year after the conclusion of the Serreno Splinter Wars, Marshal Commander Cody Fett continues his service to the Greater Republic for Mandalore. Yet, it was slowly cutting him to ribbons, his plans to remain a military man for life are being challenged.
Eventually pushed to take vacation by the brass and a chance check-in Cody finds himself in the last place he expected — An animal conservatory and rehabilitation system. Cody finds his time there unexpectedly healing and finds himself growing fond of the gorgeous Dr. Obi-Wan Kenobi, Director of Wildlife Rehabilitation for the JEDI Conservator Intuition. A fondness that he's sure is returned.
It all seems too good to be true, and he's right. The peace he hoped for here is rapidly turning into a mystery as endangered and threatened species begin to disappear from their supposedly safe habitats.

callie's break of boga roundup!!
I've been on a break from classes for the past week and in that time I somehow started, finished, and posted 13.5k words worth of fic so I figured I'd round them all up here.
Note: they all take place in the Service Animal Boga AU (hence the "break of boga" title!!).
I'll start off with a new series I started, called equivalent exchange. In this series, Padawan Obi-Wan from soon after Melida/Daan is transported to the Clone Wars, while Clone Wars era Obi-Wan takes his place in the Temple. Lots and lots of angst and healing ensues.
when everything else is trying to hurt you (3.8k, first fic in series)
One moment Obi-Wan was curled in the space between the couch and wall in his quarters, holding desperately onto the soft feathers of Boga’s crest, and the next he was sitting in the middle of an open dirt field as men shouted and blasters fired overhead.
take a step back and find solid ground (3.4k, second fic in series)
One moment Obi-Wan was running through a battle, lightsaber brandished in front of him like a shield as his feet pounded the earth in rhythm with the thousands of other GAR soldiers on-planet, and then he was crammed into a tight, tiny, quiet space on a different planet entirely.
I also wrote two gift fics, one that follows Padawan Obi-Wan on a Senate trip that goes awry, and another where, to put it mildly, Obi-Wan has a terrible horrible no good very bad day. Or week. Or month. Or--you get the point.
muffled heart (1.3k, standalone)
The anxiety started early. Perhaps that was why he reacted so strongly when a noise suddenly rang out across the atrium of the Senate lobby. It wasn’t the thunder of an explosion, or the whine of a blastershot, or the crack of a slugthrower firing. But it was close enough, and like a switch had been flipped, Obi-Wan felt a great weight descend over him, muffling everything.
it's almost over (it's just begun) (4.4k, standalone)
Some days, just existing seemed like a task far too daunting to undertake. It was even harder when he had a racing heartbeat, dizzy spells that knocked him out, and shadowy eyes that followed him and infiltrated trusted members of the Temple.
But he also had Boga.
If you guys are already fans of the Service Animal Boga AU then you should have no trouble finding something you enjoy here, and if you're not familiar, I highly recommend checking it out! It's a collaborative AU with a whole host of fantastic authors.

🗣️Talk about your favourite WIP
hmm. I think my favorite wip rn is the companion piece to This Will End, one of my Service Animal Boga au fics. I started it almost two years ago, way before I started This Will End, lol, and have been working on it on and off since then. it currently sits at 10k words and I think I'm nearly done? only a couple more scenes to flesh out.
basic premise is Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan navigating their relationship after Melida/Daan, and their struggles with Obi-Wan's new PTSD diagnosis and disabilities. Obi-Wan is non-verbal for most of the fic, which I absolutely love writing. Qui-Gon is soft, and trying, which is my favorite way to write him. I love writing Boga, too, although she doesn't show until three-fourths of the way through the fic 😔 Also, we get to see a bit of Feemor!
there's a couple fics I have to finish before I can go back to it, but I'm hoping to get it done next month. we'll see. I desperately want to share it with the world, though.
👻Is there a scene that you find intimidating that you have yet to write?
I'm writing another installment of my fibromyalgia series, Holding On, and I'm really struggling with a Council scene. I have a little bit of it written, but working out dialogue—the amount, the directions, the transitions—has always been more difficult for me, and I'm a bit stuck so I'm just avoiding writing it, lol.

In all honesty???? Along with Waxer and Boil adopting Numa???? I’m mega offended that Boga isn’t smuggled back to the Jedi temple in no-empire AUs where Obi-Wan proceeds to stuff her confused ass into a service animal vest and claim the council is infringing on his medical rights by demanding to know what he needs a fucking lizard for. He just does you assholes! She’s his daughter!
